I haven't played game or watched full gameplay, but this scene is interesting. This is actually very accurate to the lore. In the lore, Loki appeared to Asgard out of no where, no one knew who he was or where he was from. Every god in Asgard hated him so much, but somehow Odin, the All-Father, was fond of him and gave him respects. Odin was the reason Loki was never kicked out of Asgard despite all his mischief, and Odin always paid very deep attention to his words, always had Loki sit next to him and listened to him. Some versions say Odin actually considered Loki to be his brother. While Thor also was never fond of Loki, he saw his usage. Of course, of all the god in Asgard, the one who hated Loki most was Heimdall. He could foresee Loki's foul treachery even before the Ragnarok. And when Ragnarok befell to the world, it was Heimdall who battled Loki at the last moment, even when all the gods were already dead, and Heimdall killed Loki with the cost of his life. So this scene is really interesting. Even though Loki in God of War is different character, the depiction here is very accurate to the lore.

He has awareness of everything else that will be and is, but his self-awareness scores a flat 0.
As much of a bastard Heimdall is, I can't help it but like him, I'm a fan of these types of characters and his ability of foresight is just so damn cool
And he certainly acted like a "Nice Guy" with Skadi: Odin was superficially polite with Skadi in hopes of getting into her skirt. But Skadi was not interested and rejected Odin, so Odin got violent by tricking her into murdering her father.
Also it seems that wasn't even Heimdall's intention, as he is smirking at Atreus at first, and when he realises that Odin is acting all confused as to where he is, his smirk fades like "Really, Allfather? You're doing the feeble old man shtick?"

I noticed there’s a hint of Odin being Tyr in disguise, when he says being with Tyr is torture is probably of his performance, and when saying Mimir never lost his sense of humour is probably because he was actually there and not just the ravens spying on them, specially because the “sense of humour” of someone cannot really be passed from a third person (talking about the ravens)
I have not seen the full story yet, but from what I can tell right now Odin is basically suffering from the same problem the Greek pantheon did. Obsession over prophecies that they will then enact themselves when trying to prevent them. Wonder if Odin in this story could have been a genuine ally and friend of Kratos had he not been so obsessed with prophecy and knowledge.
True that imagine the powerful alliance they could have had if Kratos just shook and had a drink on it instead of saying "no" to Odin's offer would have made things alot easier lol can't blame him though Kratos didnt have alot of reason to trust anyone at that particular time
its crazy how amazing odin was in this game, he acts like a feeble old and somewhat kind grandpa that is simply trying to fix issues and find truth, but he is the most dangerous person in all the realms other than kratos, we forget that he was so strong in his youth that he killed ymir, and even in his old age he’s still clearly insanely strong with how he threw mjolnir at thrud so easily, it’s just clear he prefers magic in his fight with kratos
*"That's between me and Odin."* Good answer. Atreus was really coming into his own in this game. If we had a third title in the norse myth he might have been ready for his own game. Too bad.
Mythology aside, the acting and the ways each individual behaves and how they interact on a human level, is more believable than 99% of video games. Just epic.

I haven't played Ragnarok yet but this definitely beats the first impression I have of Odin. Now I found this version quite interesting and convincing.
I really love how they portrayed Odin in the game. Usually Odin is that muscle pig old man with in a golden palace, when in the mythologic he's that smartass trickster obsessed with knowledge, even mutilating himself to obtain it. Charming and powerful, a true god of widsom. Yes they adapted so he can become a full fledged villain, but anyway in general I'm happy with what they did. A skinny wizard old man, that's exactly how Odin would be if he was real.
What's sad is Odin could've been good. He was a man who seeks knowledge, and there is merit in that. But what corrupts him is he wants to covet and horde knowledge rather than share it. And he's willing to abuse and manipulate people into gaining that knowledge.

So while asgard could’ve said to been this grand place made of gold, it could’ve resembled more to a gold hut, rather then a actual gold giant castle n such.
For all we know the whole intro of Atreus arriving to Asgard was planned by odin, including him walking around doing his daily duties, an effortless show
The more I watch this Odin, the more I like him. As Heimdall put it, "Real power does not need to flaunt." Physically, he looks quite unassuming; balding and skinny. The way he talks is amiable and conversationalist (At first I was put off how he spoke like an American mobster. I expected him to speak like a king. Grand and with hidden meanings). Of course, all of this is through the eyes of his adversaries. People who he needs to convince (Atreus) and people who stand in his way (Kratos). The way he speaks to his underlings-Thor, Heimdall, Sif-is dismissive. He is a true manipulator. There's never a scene where he twirls a handlebar mustache or laughs maniacally. He is always manipulating and always playing the part of the old wise man.
Baldur: Can't die or even feel pain. Heimdall: can see others thoughts and predict their moves before they make them Thor: ... he's Thor A really brutal trifecta leading Odin's armies. No wonder the Aesir pretty much rule over all the realms.

You know, come to think of it. Atreus probably survives the fall if heimdall was to drop him. I mean the boy literally jumped off that reanimated giant to shoot arrows at baldur when he was younger.
Fun little detail that most people miss: Notice when Atreus (Loki) fights Heimdall, his health bar doesn’t appear above like you see in most boss battles. That’s because this is all part of the cutscene story. Very cool!

This game is a masterpiece the only thing I didn’t like was we couldn’t really do much in Asgard, and as a thought imagine if we side quests, and a few of said missions involved helping the sons of Ivaldi and as a reward for helping them, Atraus gets their skills and when they see his bow and ask if brook and sindri enhanced his bow, idk but the things they would say and the things brook and sindri would say would just be GOLD.

Imagine if they cast Charles Danse as Odin instead

The point to Odin's character in this is to personify the old saying "Nice does not mean Good".

Best bit of this scene was Heimdall walking round to Odins blind side at 10:40 and Odin looking behind him like "wtf where did he go?" lmao.

Obsession over prophecies that they will then enact themselves when trying to prevent them.
Wonder if Odin in this story could have been a genuine ally and friend of Kratos had he not been so obsessed with prophecy and knowledge.
That is the essence of tragedy: The person involved become the catalyst of doom they wished to prevent.
True that imagine the powerful alliance they could have had if Kratos just shook and had a drink on it instead of saying "no" to Odin's offer would have made things alot easier lol can't blame him though Kratos didnt have alot of reason to trust anyone at that particular time

Never played or watched gameplay of God Of War, but this is so well done. The dialogue and graphics are great.
Very well-said, the trickster side of Odin is often ignored in the mainstream
What's sad is Odin could've been good. He was a man who seeks knowledge, and there is merit in that. But what corrupts him is he wants to covet and horde knowledge rather than share it. And he's willing to abuse and manipulate people into gaining that knowledge.
He was bad from the beginning tho he could've never been good. He destroyed the "true creator of life" and appointed himself as the "all father".

@@finnheisenheim8274 Myths states that asgard is made of gold. Not sure why they went with wood but I think the designers are going with the viking look.
Viking where not much about living in castles... now stealing from them, thats where they had fun
I remember watching a review on assassins creed valhalla and they kinda brought this up whenever asgard was shown, apparently is cuz the ppl back then we’re usually just farmers, raiders, and traders etc, they would only be able to envision their imagination close to their reality. So while asgard could’ve said to been this grand place made of gold, it could’ve resembled more to a gold hut, rather then a actual gold giant castle n such.
yes its good they strayed away from the villain in a big castle or big building cliche
