    I've always loved your videos, but YAY! Finally a great video on Michigan! So many RV videos out there on everything from the west to the east, (mostly deserts, etc) yet very few take the route to Michigan, yet we have some of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen. Thank you, Robert.

    Hello Traveling Robert! 3 years ago my son and I traveled from Rhode Island to North Dakota and I was able to check off 2 states that I needed to complete to conquer all of the lower 48 states, and those states were Michigan and North Dakota. Once we left I-80 near Toledo,Oh we drove to the following Michigan attractions: The Motown Museum and Ford Museum in Detroit, Sleeping Bear Dunes( 400 feet above Lake Michigan ), Mackinac Island where we visited The Grand Hotel, Fort Mackinac, ate my 1st ever pastie at Machinac Island, and Arch Rock, North over the Machinaw Bridge( SPECTACULAR!! ), Soo Locks boat tour through the locks, Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks boat tour and it was INCREDIBLE! Michigan is truly a very special place! Looking forward to seeing the Machinac Island footage. Great video Robert!

As a traveler myself (49 states and about 15 foreign countries) I recommend that on your next visit to this area you make the Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise a priority, and that you get over to Sleeping Bear Dunes and Leelanau County. They are the best sights in Michigan, after Mackinaw Island.

    Love the UP and the northern mitten. Yes the Pictured Rocks is amazing from the boat! We stayed at Munising Tourist Park Campground. It's a city run campground right on the water. We had a water font site and were able to walk the beach from one end to the other. Don't feel bad on the weather though. We were there in mid July and the weather was just like what you experienced. After talking to people the best time for weather is late July to late August. We had a good time, but because of he weaker I tell my wife it didn't count, so we need to do the trip,again! LOL

    Another great tour. You are so right about national park rangers. They are so helpful, love the places where they serve and if you are respectful and curious they will tell you about the parks and much more in the surrounding area. Michigan's UP is nostalgic for me, since I spent some good times 75 years ago on the Minnesota shore of Lake Superior. Glimpsing the lake through the trees made me feel right at home. But the Minnesota side had more white birches and the shoreline more igneous stones and agates than the sandy Michigan beaches. The rain, however, was quite familiar. Too bad video cannot capture the clean air, too.

      What was the area like back then?

    • @keithnichols7926
      @keithnichols7926 4 роки тому

      @@ronachten2902: In the mid 1900s, the towns along highway 61 from Duluth north did little to attract tourists. This was a country that seemed populated by old Scandinavian miners and lumberjacks, and the idea of developing a tourist trade hadn't occurred to most communities. People drove through and looked at the natural attractions and spent a night in a cabin camp, and that was it. Later in the century, catering to tourists became a thing throughout the Midwest, and campgrounds abound nowadays.

    I live in Munising. My favorite quiet getaway is Wagner Falls, any time of year. A bit of history on Elliot Falls along Miners Beach....The Elliot family owned a house just upstream from the falls about 100 feet. The stream went directly UNDER the house through its foundation in concrete channel. The family's water use came from the stream. My father went to school with one of the children and was actually in the house in the 1950's to see the setup which he described to me. Note...the foundation and some minor artifacts are still in place. In another segment of the video, you stopped at another Lake Superior overlook. It is known as Sullivan's Landing where log rafts were assembled for floating to the mills around the region. The log slide just a few miles east did the same thing with a plume that delivered logs to the water.

    My dad and I made almost the same trip last summer! We left north Alabama on May 30, 2019. We also saw Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Devils tower, the badlands. Stopped at the Corn Palace, the museum over the interstate in Kearney Nebraska. Went to Wall Drugs (which I REALLY didn’t like). Seen mining museum in Butte Montana. Was in a hailstorm in Butte. Snowed 8 inches in Yellowstone 2 days before we got there. Pop traded his 2014 Colorado for a brand new one 2 days before we left! Seats were pretty stiff and uncomfortable! Lol. We were supposed to go back this summer and do the Grand Canyon, go back to Yellowstone. See Arches and Needles parks. We don’t think we are going to get to finish our trip this year. We left Yellowstone the route you did! I was pretty much terrorized till that was over. Stunningly beautiful but scary as all get out!

    Robert thank you for another video with great content. Can you include some of your grocery shopping adventures to your videos? I don’t mind if your videos are even longer, I think they are excellent

    Ahh pasties. Good with gravy too. They would feed these to the miners like in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. My first introduction was in song " Sense of Wonder" by Van Morrison no doubt a travel down memory lane in Belfast " Pastie suppers down at Davey's chipper
    Gravy rings, wagon wheels
    Bambracks, snowballs". Then I had the real deal in the UP. Ended up living in Wisconsin for.25 years and having access to Pasties. Some of my favorite travels is getting in touch with nature a hike.in the woods, being on a.lake, hearing the ocean, enjoying sunrise/ sunsets, and enjoying local cuisine like pasties.

    I live in the UP! Pastys are awesome hey robert?! U should try it with chilli ontop. And back in the day the iron minors loved eating pastys because they could just grab it with their hands and it was a whole meal in one.

    Not going to UP, looks like my state in Northern Maine. Evergreen trees and more trees. Plus mosquitoes & Black flies. Tks for saving me the trip. Although our Fall season, unlike UP, is Spectacular, colorful and dry.

    If you follow the steps at Sable Falls down to the beach you can stand at the base of the sand dune and see Sable Creek empty into Lake Superior. It’s quite a strenuous hike back up when you are tired so not worth it on a rainy day.

    Robert, you should check out key west again. They repaved Duvall st and many of the bars and stores remodeled their insides. Some places even closed for good. The keys are open as of June 1st.
