The Great Lakes and Mackinac Island are great. The reason why the lake are so deep is that 14,000 years ago glaciers carved them out. In fact, Lake Superior is considered one of the largest, deepest fresh water lakes in the world. Robert, thank you for showing my homestate off so well. I look forward to seeing next week video.
Lake Superior is in fact the largest Fresh Water lake in the world..the largest lake in the world is the Caspian Sea which is a land locked salt water sea.
@@derekk6906 Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia is the largest fresh water lake in the world. My son was asked to be a Judge for Ice Motorcycle Races there that's how I know.
Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. 31,000 sq miles compared to Lake Baikal with 12,000 sq miles. Lake Baikal is the longest freshwater lake at 396 miles long compared to Lake Superior at 350 miles long. Lake Superior is so much wider at 160 miles wide compared to Lake Baikal with 49 miles wide. That is why Lake Superior has almost 3 time the surface area that Lake Baikal has. Lake Michigan and Huron are also larger in area than Lake Baikal.
Lake Superior is also known to be so cold that everything that sinks in the lake never comes back up. Lake Michigan is the jewel per most people but I love lake huron. So much fun to tube and ski on Huron. Watch the white caps during storms.
Hey Robert! Gave my husband his Traveling Robert shirt yesterday after he survived a bad accident. Car flipped and landed crushed upside down. It was supposed to be his Father's Day gift but thought it would cheer him up while he recovers. It sure did. We will be binge watching your show while he gets better.
My husband is a corrections officer and he said every week after watching Robert's video for the week he'll just randomly start singing it at work when it gets stuck in his head. The prisoners think he's gone a little crazy, but that's ok! We change the words a bit and sing it when we're in the car.
Wow, that was beautiful ,the church was awesome, and I get the appreciation of simpler times. Too much go go go in today's world, sometimes you just need to stop and smell the flowers.😊
Beautiful place! You can go anywhere and experience cars, loud motorcycles and the byproducts. It’s a welcome change if only for a short period of time.
I noticed the skies got so blue for a couple of months when the covid stuff struck and people were not going anywhere. It's amazing how fast it happened to clear up. I like that people are back doing things but those skies were lovely too.
Yes, for a very very short time, lol. I wish they offered a lot more of the historical facts and objects. This island has a magnitude of interesting history.

Hi Mrs. Morales. I watched the video when Robert took you on a trip to Washington, DC. You are so adorable, and seem to have such a great love for life! You've done a wonderful job raising your son! God bless you!
First time I was there in 1959 and I was eighteen, we could go in the Grand Hotel and look around and go anywhere we wanted. No one questioned us. They even gave us towels so we could swim in the Esther Williams swimming pool. Thanks for jogging my memory.
We were there in August 2012. We stayed in Mackinaw City at a very nice campground right on Lake Michigan with a view of the bridge. Mackinaw Mill Creek CG, it’s family owned. You should have driven up to Whitefish Point. The Museum has Edmund Fitzgerald's Bell. A very unique lighthouse too.
Thank you for this video on Mackinac Island. I used to live in the Upper Peninsula and have been to Mackinac Island many times. My husband and I spent the first few days of our honeymoon at the Grand Hotel, 39 years ago. I never get tired of going to the island.
This was a really great visit to Mackinac! Thanks for all the great views and points of interest! And as usual, your narration is always on point and never boring.
Catching up on my backlog of video watching. This is one of your best so far. Mackinac Island is on my bucket list. Great job covering the island Robert.
Always love the island. I grew up in Michigan and have been there many times. You chose the best place to get fudge on the island. I have even stayed at the Grand Hotel. What an experience.
This area has always been a mystery for me... but a mystery no more! Thanks for this up close & personal tour. It really does live up to its hype. : ) Apparently the Great "Lakes" actually qualify as SEAS.

Oh, Robert! This made my day! I'm from the U.P. - Marquette! Family trips back every few years to the family camp on Lake Superior, always with pasties! But with the many times I've been to Mackinac Island, I never went inside the Grand Hotel. So glad you did. I enjoyed seeing what I've missed! Thank you for this day on Mackinac. If you get to Wisconsin again, west of Madison in Spring Green is the House on the Rock. A fascinating visit for sure. A 2-3 hour visit to see it all!
I chose this video this morning, and happy to say once again you did not disappoint, I was mesmerized by the beauty and tranquility of this beautiful Island, and I don't think it would of had the same effect had cars and other motorized vehicles been allowed. so thank you once again for showing me another beautiful place in this country. all I can say is WOW ! and of course thank you, my goodness.

Lol! You’re obviously not a horse person Robert. Horse manure smells so much better than exhaust fumes. I wish more places in the US were like Mackinaw Island. Thanks for sharing!
Arch Rock views are almost as epic as that burger...and really appreciate the fun music mix during your return walk to your truck following the ferry ride!
My wife and I are enjoying your videos and YOU! Thank you for sharing your travels with us. Hopefully the next time you pass this way there will be more time for you to explore more.
Remember being there many times as a child on the hotel porch and inside for free. I also never saw so much silverware on the table before. Without the vehicles maybe they are trying to keep the feeling of Somewhere in Time.
Hello Traveling Robert! Mackinac Island is so beautiful.I enjoyed walking around the island exploring downtown and eating delicious pasties and fudge ooohh yeah😊! I was smiling while watching you struggle going up the steep hill to the fort as I had that same struggle. I was there at the fort at just the right time to watch a reannactment. My son really enjoyed the cannons too. After visiting the fort we walked to Arch Rock and didn't have to walk up the stairs. Such a beautiful view of Lake Huron. Love the views from the fort and the Grand Hotel. Lol, we got swarmed by mosquitos entering and leaving the island. Great video Robert! Looking forward to the next video.
Mackinac Island is one of my favorites! I’ve stayed in Straits State Park before, on the lower part by the Lake. I lived in the Upper Peninsula for a year and got very comfortable driving over that bridge pretty quickly to visit my family in the Lower Peninsula. I love your videos and music so much! It has brought me so much happiness in the past couple of weeks. Thank you!
Looks like a nice resort for well-to-do elderly people. The lake itself might as well be a windsurfer's paradise with that gorgeous blue water and strong winds blowing.
These videos are so enjoyable to follow during lockdown. Well, even though things are slowly opening back up, I'm still sticking close to home and living my travels vicariously through you, Robert! Thanks for taking me on these journeys!
I love the jazzy version of Rachmaninoff! My husband and I grew up in Michigan and visited Mackinac Island in the mid-60's and sat in one of the many rocking chairs on the Grand Hotel porch when it was free. We moved to Oregon in the 70's and I've watched your video of the Oregon Coast twice, and agree it is one of the most beautiful coastal trips. We went to Florence at the coast for the day a few days ago when the temperature was 90 in Eugene and it was delightfully pleasant there in the low 70's. Thank you Robert for taking me to other places I wish I could go.
Robert, we were in Mackinac Island just after you in August. You captured the magic of the island perfectly! Like him putting a sticker on each state he visits, I am going to post this comment on all the videos I watch! You da man, Robert!!
Burger looks better than anything you could buy. Loved the video. Have been there once but did not do quite as much walking as you did so did not see the fort. This was such a joy to watch today. Needed a break from the realities of today and this was perfect. As always thanks so much.
you forgot to get their famous taffy! I've lived in Michigan my entire life and have been there only 3 times. This was a treat to watch, I recognized everything! Next time you go try doing the bike trail around the entire island!
A hoodie in August, wow. Amazing architecture and tremendous natural beauty. And there's Robert, educating us one state at a time. Another great video Robert!
Again, as I commented on your last video, I'm so glad you made it to my home state finally! Mackinac Island is truly one of the best parts of Michigan. I do agree with you, I love to visit but, would never want to live there. Also, that was quite a walk from town all the way to Arch Rock! Last time we were on the Island, we rented bikes and rode the 8 miles all the way around. Great little quick service restaurant on the far side of the Island to break up the ride. Can't wait for the next video. As a former Michigander living in Florida, I sure miss the beauty of my home state but, don't miss the snow!
Now hiring a Roadapple Recovery Technician. Enjoy the great outdoors on beautiful Mackinac Island. Enjoy the rich history and scenic views while you perform a continuous scavenger hunt in peaceful surroundings. Absolutely beautiful place. I love the carriages too but kept noticing the byproduct. I guess it adds to the Victorian experience.😂 Thanks for the tour!!👍👍
I went to Mackinaw Island when I was just 5 years old. I still have a very clear memory of the architecture, the Grand Hotel, and the fudge shops. It is a very good memory.
Howdy Robert, many thanks for sharing this second part of your superb video about your visit to Michigan. Quite a treat as usual which I watched with particular pleasure and interest now that Bruges is going out of lockdown. You sure made my day again here buddy.Best wishes and cordial greetings from William across the Big Pond.
To think of all the times I have passed through there on my way up through the UP and on up into Ontario and have never taken a side trip to see this island. Next time I will make time to do so.
Robert, my husband and I spent three days for our 25th wedding anniversary on Mackinac! It was lovely...and you have brought back those beautiful memories for me by your stunning video! Thank you for this...it is beautiful. I hope to return to Mac in the near future.
Just discovered you channel...i grew up in MI lower peninsula. Mackinac was our summer trip almost every year in late 70s and 80s, usually stayed in Mackinac City or St Ignace. Stayed on island once overlooking Main St. We took Star Lines as well before, although they only ran from St. Ignace back then. Always regretted not workin there one summer when I had been offered the chance while at Michigan State Univ. One recomendation for next time, take the horse drawn carriage tour, its worth it - although can have long lines at start. If it wasn't for you Robert , i would not ever have known about this magnificent place . i want to go! The Victorian era is my favorite time in History.
Dear Joyce, it’s magnificent! Even in this day and age the water is turquoise! If you can, stay a couple days on the island. There are many hotels. Have a great week! God Bless!
Sunday morning, coffee, and a trip to Mackinac Island, a great way to start the day! I love wandering around grand old hotels and lodges just to soak up the laid back ambiance. When you make it to West Virginia again be sure to check out The Greenbrier and take the Bunker tour.
Excellent tour, with so many thoughtful photos. As a lifelong photographer and lifelong student of composition I really appreciate how you capture places that are naturally beautiful but can also easily be just a jumble of images. You clearly must invest many hours in editing. Careful viewers will pick up on your comments, and sometimes what you are saying between the lines. Candor is challenging to pull off without offending, so good work maintaining a nice balance and giving honest, positive representations. Just because a place is beautiful doesn't mean it can't be touristy, and just because a place is touristy doesn't mean it can't be beautiful.
Mackinaw island is my happy place. We try to go Mackinaw island every year. The fact that there are no cars is part of what makes it so special. Where else can you go and smell fudge and horse manure and somehow it just works! My wife and i were visting the island when they were filming Somewhere In Time and got to see Jane Seymore and Christopher Reeve. Good job on your video.
As a lifelong michigander i absolutely loved your review of the island and the mighty mac bridge. If a bridge can be beautiful, that one is. Believe it or not, in the winter they drive snowmobiles to the island from st ignace and mackinaw city, NOT ME, that water is over 500' deep,
I think you wore yourself out. That was really nice to visit Mackinac Island & see the Fort, Churches, the fudge shop, the Grand Hotel, & the restaurants. The burger looked good too!
I had the same reaction when I went there. It's the most colorful and perfect place I've ever seen and the color of the water was a surprise too. It's turquoise.
I wish you were my dad Robert because you visit to awesome different places in the country and I would really have a good time with you on our travels and I hope your wife is doing good. Lol. Stay safe!
So glad you enjoyed one of the gems of our beautiful state of Michigan. Mackinac Island is one of a kind..were so lucky to have it here in the Mitten.❤😎🖐 aha! I recognized your variation on the Somewhere in Time theme...nice!
Robert I started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago and I think I’ve seen them all. Can’t wait to see your next video. I appreciate everything you share!
My girlfriend and I watched this video and decided to put Mackinac on our bucket list. I knew it was beautiful, but thanks to your video, I now understand *exactly*how beautiful it really is.
Loved this vlog , you always get the feel for a place , so many vlogers gush emotional about everything , but you really tell how it is , you make everything real like was there myself, thank you for all the time and effort you put into your vlogs 🥰🥰
Love the fact the greatest state is getting 3 episodes. Thanks Robert! I was on the island 14 years ago and yes, I remember the smells like it was this morning lol.

God Bless!
Yup, another place to add to my list!👌 thank you Robert 😊
Great visit to Macinac Island! So many awesome things there. Really enjoyed the visit to the Grand Hotel. Awesome video, Robert.
You did a fantastic job of capturing Mackinac Island. I'm so glad you had a clear blue sky with lots of sun to get all the colors.
I wish you were my dad Robert because you visit to awesome different places in the country and I would really have a good time with you on our travels and I hope your wife is doing good. Lol. Stay safe!
I wondered about working there, now I see how they commute. Beautiful clean island. Thanks for another wonderful video.
So glad you enjoyed one of the gems of our beautiful state of Michigan. Mackinac Island is one of a kind..were so lucky to have it here in the Mitten.❤😎🖐 aha! I recognized your variation on the Somewhere in Time theme...nice!
Awesome Fudge.. my parents took me to Mackinac island a few times.I need to go back soon.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this amazing trip :)
Your videos are the absolute best. Thank you.
Hi Robert, a very enjoyable excursion of Makinac Island with all its beauty, that is greatly appreciated!!
This island is unbelievably beautiful!
I cant wait to see the lower peninsula where I live. You should visit ludington mi and ride the lake Lake Michigan car ferry
We did the ferry to Wisconsin. Left the truck in Michigan, spent the night and returned the next day. 4 hours each way.
Nice video as always. I love seeing your adventures! I am looking forward to my own!!
This episode is one of my favorite place, hope to visit next year thanks Robert 😊
Thank you, Robert. I looked forward to watching this video all day. You didn't disappoint. Safe travels.
Great video! I was there as a very young child and only remember the fort, never realized how much more there was to it.
Thank You for sharing Robert. I visited there maybe 10 years I ago. Coming on the ferry boat was so exciting. Cheers
Loved this tour! I will never get here but it almost feels like I have been there in person. Thanks!
It's a tough call but if there are swarms of bees at a bar, I'm with Robert - I gotta bail.
#216 Good morning, Robert. Thanks for videoing the Pearl of the Great Lakes! My old ship, the Coal Fired handb omber, SS Chief Wawatom, Railroad Ice Breaker sailed between Mackinaw City and St. Ignace
I'm so glad you got to stay at Straits State Park. We really enjoy our stay there.
I crossed the straight before the Big Mac was built. Then we came back from Australia and crossed the bridge in March 1958.
Beautiful! I miss your videos!!!
Thank you!
