Hi Robert! Running out of that storm was sure stressful to watch, so glad you made it out of that storm safely! That Pelican Lake was so beautiful. I never seen water so calm on the lake especially with fair number of boats out there. Again, thanks for having us on the road with you and see you onto the next one. Cheers. 🤟🏻😁🤟🏻
It was an honor for Karen and me to host Robert for a few hours. It was a bummer to not have a Des Moines meet-up, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully in the next year or two Robert will be back and we’ll show Robert how many midwesterners appreciate him.
I thought it was really great that you a Karen hosted Robert which gave him a small break from driving and you full filled one of his wishes by allowing him to share your boat on the lake... I enjoyed the scenery as well, so thank you.🤗
You were so lucky to find a good spot to park your rv to avoid the strongest winds! That was one of the worst storms to ever hit Iowa and Northern Illinois! A tornado that day damaged one of our friends fence that day! Luckily you and the rv are safe! Great video! Loved seeing the strong straight line wind footage from the storm!
Robert that couple was so nice to accommodate you in their home :) Its beautiful! There are still very nice people in this world. Such love and generosity!
Nothing like northern Minnesota in the summer! Glad to see you in my old stomping grounds, Robert! I lived and worked in Detroit Lakes, MN, for 18 years and know that area very well! Great to see it through your lens!
Love watching your travels throughout the U.S. Hubby and I drove to Ames, Iowa from Florida just in time to be welcomed by the Derecho too on 8/10/2020. Loved seeing the extreme points of the United States. Always enjoy your videos.
Stunning footage Robert, I just love your drone shots. I cant get over how large your lakes are in the USA. Pelican Lake area is gorgeous. Those storms looked so nasty. Thanks for your hard work wonderful episode
I’m in Iowa and a couple of things; First of all, THANK YOU for calling Des Moines a “big” city! I just wanted to correct the information you were given about the derecho. Lifetime residents of the Midwest (myself included) have NEVER experienced a storm like that one. The last storm like it was more than 100 years ago. Keep on bringing the U.S. to our small screens! You inspire us all!
This is by far the best episode of summer 2020. Good weather, good people, good food and wonderful views. Hopefully the next episode is like this: every new episode is better than the previous.
Wow, you REALLY dodged a bullet with that derecho! It was one of the most destructive agricultural storms in decades - 14 MILLION acres of crops were destroyed across the Midwest that day, to say nothing of people’s homes, farms and businesses. Loved the video as always, Robert. You’re an inspiration to those of us just dipping our toes in long term travel!
One county to the north of Iowa City, we had winds well in excess of 100 miles per hour. Three months later, some people are still cleaning up the damage and/or waiting for construction crews to repair roofs and other damage.
Many folks resorted to living in tents, having no funds to move elsewhere, after their apartment complexes were badly damaged by the derecho/straight line winds.
WOW, loved this weeks video, lake pelican is beautiful and the straight line wind storm, like a mini hurricane here in Florida. Liked the very beginning of the Mississippi river and crossing on a small footbridge. Can you imagine winter there if it's that cool in summer berrrrr. Thanks for all the wonderful adventures! Love your channel! 😀
Another great video Robert. I've watched this one a couple times. Amazing that Minitini II stood up to the derecho--made sense how you parked it and a nice illustration for Winnebago for how their products are built and endure. @40:38, "Yeah, I think I should've worn my hoodie. It's, the temperature is dropping. I mean, we're in the middle of August here." -- welcome to northern Minnesota! We're about as far from an ocean as you can get in the US so the temperature is just different. When you were talking about Angle Inlet, you were saying you supposed it was only accessible from Canada or by boat. In the winter you can drive across the frozen lake. That's what was done in the winter of 2020/2021 when the Canadian border was still closed. It's that Minnesota thing again. :)
I’m sure others may have mentioned it but it sounds like your windshield wipers are out of alignment and slapping up against your A pillar. Great adventure. Crazy storm. Smart to aline with the wind before she hit.
Thank you so much for being our eyes on the road as we are stuck in our homes. Water sure was choppy in the bay towards the end of the video; like in an ocean. Also enjoyed the field of sunflowers! Safe travels.
Robert! so glad you stopped to have lunch with your viewers! I think you definitely dodged a bullet. Close call. Such a nice stay at the lake house ... that was nice of them. That was so cool to see the headwaters of the Mississippi. I'm going to put that on our list now.
As someone who has a 29 ft travel trailer seeing those semis flipped is scary stuff. Also Robert, Walleye is a very nice fish. Great with Andy's breading and fried
Hi Robert this was a great video, I especially enjoyed the boat ride on the lake and the drone photos. Glad you decide to travel away from that storm that seem to be following you...thank you for sharing, Best wishes for safe travels...please continue to share.
Wow, those were some nasty storms you traveled through and out ran! Pelican Lake was a beautiful spot for moochdocking. Cool seeing the beginning of the Mighty Mississippi River. Thanks Robert!!
You have outdone yourself with this video. We are so enjoying your Midwest travel, your filming, your adventures and the way you present the material to us. Sunday mornings are devoted to Traveling Robert and CBS Sunday morning. Thank you for all you are doing and your positive attitude during this pandemic.
Honestly, I think your videos are therapeutic. Keep them going. I can have the worst day possible, watch your videos, then instant relief. I’m surprised we don’t need a prescription to be a subscriber.
Well done Robert. Live just N. of Des Moines and enjoyed your review of the city. Iowa offers many nice campgrounds including several COE parks. Thanks for featuring the upper Midwest.
I remember that Derecho. Hit us here in Ames really hard. My roommates and I were without power for five days. What luck that you ended up in Iowa just in time for that one. We've had one derecho since that wasn't nearly as bad.
Wow! You came through Iowa a few weeks before I did. My kids are in Iowa City and DesMoines. I saw a lot of barns and grain towers damaged by those straight line winds that you endured. I visited the Buddy Holly memorial about 4 years ago...and YES! It’s miles and miles of flat landscape.
ROBERT..FANTASTIC...THAT BREAK AT THE LAKE WITH..EARL AND KATHY LOOKS LIKE YOU REALLY ENJOYED YOUR STAY...THANKS FOR SHARING THOSE DRONE SHOTS..ABSOLUTELY ENJOYED BY ME AND MY WIFE. AGAIN..THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Robert, you found another beautiful beach! The sand reminded me of the many Key West trips I have seen you take, but the shots that you panned are so different. Big green trees and seeing footage that we do not usually see. Awesome!
Robert, we just found your channel, and we’re getting caught up. So glad you were able to visit our state. I’m surprised they didn’t make you sign a non-disclosure agreement for visiting that area 😉. I’m pretty sure you were at the next campsite over from us only a few months earlier last year. Thank you so much for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.
Hello Traveling Robert😊😊🎸🎸, Where are the Pelicans? Oh, the storm must have blown them away hahaha😊😊! Scary situation with that Deracho and seeing so many large trucks blown over on the road. Happy you got through that safely. I fondly remember my trip through MN not to long ago driving the upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern Wisconsin to Duluth, MN and driving along a very scenic highway 61 along the north shore of Lake Superior to Split Rock State Park. I then drove across the state and got very close to Itasca State Park and ended up in Detroit Lakes,MN and Fargo, ND. It's so nice that you had friends that hosted you and the boat ride was SPECTACULAR. There are just so many lakes in MN. The Lake of the Woods area was beautiful also looking north into Western Ontario and Eastern Manitoba, Canada. This was a great video and looking for to the next one. 👍👍👍
Again, another fine video. "Like a robot I'm programmed to follow." I know the feeling. You keep things real. One thing you can say is you know how to back a trailer. Until next time.
Hello Robert. In Minnesota you were close to Hibbing (100 miles + or -) which is the birthplace of Bob Dylan. I think the street going by his boyhood home is named after him. Possibly something for the list if ever in the area again. Thanks for touring Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota!
Robert I really enjoyed the video. Glad you made it through that storm safely and I’m happy you got to meet some new friends and got a chance to sail on that beautiful lake.
Hi Robert. Really love your videos I like the pace of them and the interesting places that you pass. Glad you were able to bypass that secondstorm. Also happy you enjoyed a pontoon ride on that beautiful Pelican Lake with your lovely friends. Take care of yourself Robert
Thank you robert for giving us the pleasure in watching these videos I really look forward to watching them even the reruns god bless you and you're 👨👩👦 family.
Another fantastic episode Robert!! You can't imagine how much we enjoy your trip.Amazing way of edition! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.Saludos desde Toronto
Hey Robert, happy Sunday! You didn't miss much when you bypassed the World's Biggest Truck Stop. I spent the night there in an RV once...nothing to write home about. I visited Kirk's future birthplace years ago as a side trip when I went to the Iowa State Fair (which was fantastic!) Riverside still looks to be a sleepy little town (nothing wrong with that), but it seems like they've spruced up their tourist-related offerings a bit. Live long and prosper!
I remember watching the live chat from the casino after the derecho. It seemed like bad weather was chasing Robert across Iowa & Minnesota. Pelican Lake was beautiful
I binged watch all your 2020 uploads (except for Livestreams). Keep them rolling!! My favorites are the one where you had such bad luck opening up the garbanzo peas/beans?? and with the can opener (so funny!!!!) and this one with James T Kirk.. so funny!!! I guess every town should try some ways to make themself noticeable!! As always love your videos!!
A small correction. The Treaty of Paris that resulted in the Northwest Angle was in 1783, not 1873. Geographers were well aware of the path of the Mississippi River by then.
It was awesome to see you were here in Des Moines. It is fun to see our fair city in the eyes of a visitor. While we take so many things for granted, it was beautiful in your review. I would love to meet you next time you stop by. The derecho was crazy! It crossed 3 or 4 states and the winds were actually over 100 mph in areas! Cedar Rapids lost 50% of their canopy in half an hour. Des Moines also had a lot of damage. It gave us all a glimpse of what it is like to be in a hurricane. I don't believe we have ever seen anything like it. Yes, the interstate was littered with semis blown over by the wind! Power was out for many for over a week. It was crazy and weird that you were in the area when it happened. I love your videos. I wish I could travel and see all the things I have seen through your travels, but since I can't, I get to enjoy all the lovely places in our country through you. Thanks again!
imagine my surprise when I saw Pelicans in Fergus Falls Minn. It's their breeding grounds. They migrate every year from the Gulf Coast. They leave when it gets cold. (Anti-snowbirds) How bad were the bugs at the lake?
Hi Robert! Running out of that storm was sure stressful to watch, so glad you made it out of that storm safely! That Pelican Lake was so beautiful. I never seen water so calm on the lake especially with fair number of boats out there. Again, thanks for having us on the road with you and see you onto the next one. Cheers. 🤟🏻😁🤟🏻
I am old enough to remember seeing Buddy Holly on live TV. Thanks Robert.
Would love to check out that memorial myself one day.
that storm was very scary looking.. glad you were able to dodge it.. Pelican Lake was stunning
like a robot programed to obey...Good one. That was hilarious the way you said it.
It was an honor for Karen and me to host Robert for a few hours. It was a bummer to not have a Des Moines meet-up, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully in the next year or two Robert will be back and we’ll show Robert how many midwesterners appreciate him.
Please put my name on your list if a meet-up happens. Fellow Des Moines resident. darlalp744@gmail.com
I thought it was really great that you a Karen hosted Robert which gave him a small break from driving and you full filled one of his wishes by allowing him to share your boat on the lake... I enjoyed the scenery as well, so thank you.🤗
Very nice video...those storms are scary...
Great job avoiding the storm brother...🚛
You were so lucky to find a good spot to park your rv to avoid the strongest winds! That was one of the worst storms to ever hit Iowa and Northern Illinois! A tornado that day damaged one of our friends fence that day! Luckily you and the rv are safe! Great video! Loved seeing the strong straight line wind footage from the storm!
We need to have more people like Robert, friends to get smoochdocking, friends to be a cameraman, and friends with a boat.
So true! Lol
"Friends with a boat"--the best way to be on a lake in Minnesota!
It must have been surreal to see those overturned 18 wheelers on person!
How do you think, the drivers felt?
as allways 1 hour passes so quick when watching Roberts videos. Great relaxing episode.
Robert that couple was so nice to accommodate you in their home :) Its beautiful! There are still very nice people in this world. Such love and generosity!
I am glad your pontoon wish came true so soon .May all your wishes come true. Stay safe and happy.
Is a great episode bringing therapeutic comfort to those folks "Stay Home and Safe".🙏
Your theme song is our Sunday mantra 😜

Thousands of Iowans freaking out enduring the Derecho Storm and i laughed as You folks were eating an Iowa tenderloin!!! Historic memory for sure!
Stunning footage Robert, I just love your drone shots. I cant get over how large your lakes are in the USA. Pelican Lake area is gorgeous. Those storms looked so nasty. Thanks for your hard work wonderful episode
What a fun trip. I really enjoyed this one. Especially seeing Kirk's birthplace and Buddy Holly's memorial site!

Ohio had a derecho a couple of years ago....they happen every year or two.....just because they don't happen to you doesn't mean they aren't happening
Wow! Glad you were safe from those storms. Even more happy that you were paying attention to the weather. Too many people do not until it is too late.
This is by far the best episode of summer 2020. Good weather, good people, good food and wonderful views. Hopefully the next episode is like this: every new episode is better than the previous.

I enjoyed watching your adventures. Oftentimes, it feels like I'm right there with you.
@@raallen1468 This, too-thank you for mentioning it. I saw this at a mobile home park where I helped with pop-up food pantries.
How about the millions in crop damage; corn fields all over were flattened just before the harvest.
I think we can officially say that moochdocking does not suck! Amazing!
This is great content. It’s almost like a tv series for me, I can’t wait for new ones every week
WOW, loved this weeks video, lake pelican is beautiful and the straight line wind storm, like a mini hurricane here in Florida. I thought that dumpster was going to hit the Colorado during the storm.
The upper Midwest💚. Next time you visit Minnesota, I highly recommend the North Shore. Great Video Robert!

Great.. your contents are always refreshing... soothing to the mind. Most probably because of how you narrate the situation. 😀

What delicious irony. Birthplace of Captain Kirk, and lousy Internet reception. Lol lol
Pelican Lake is dreamy! 😍
I was looking forward to my Sunday morning video. That storm was unbelievable, glad you were not on the road. Pelican Lake was awesome.
That's the way to do it if you've got to retire, like Earl and Cathy on that Beautiful peace of Heaven in Iowa,,, I thoroughly enjoyed that stop over.
Wow!!! Just awesome throughout....and that sunrise, never seen anything like it!!

That storm is actually interesting. Well I'm from dry, almost rainless California
Amazing video Robert. One of the best. thank you!
Thanks Robert enjoy my Sunday mornings with coffee and Roberts latest videos.
Robert I really enjoyed the video. Glad you made it through that storm safely and I’m happy you got to meet some new friends and got a chance to sail on that beautiful lake.
I noticed on your returned trip to Minnesota, from North Dakota, you didn't have your towing mirrors on your truck.
I forgot to put them back on after the car wash
The free-tow bandito 30:30 got his free ride.
I am a huge Star Trek fan. Gene says we are “Trekkies”! Thank you for sharing that.
Hi Robert. Really love your videos I like the pace of them and the interesting places that you pass. Glad you were able to bypass that secondstorm. Also happy you enjoyed a pontoon ride on that beautiful Pelican Lake with your lovely friends. Take care of yourself Robert
Welcome to Iowa, wow you were here for our storm. Interesting watching this video, I recognize the scenery.
Best video so far ! And beautiful Pelican Lake !

An hour long? Awesome! Thanks for the long episode!!! I STILL cook my bacon and watch T.R. every Sunday morning.... for like a year now! lol
Robert if you like lakes, trees and rock cuts, you need to check out Muskoka. I think you'd love it

Another fantastic episode Robert!! You can't imagine how much we enjoy your trip.Amazing way of edition!

Robert, did you ever do a route 1 trip? It goes from key west to Ft Kent Maine. That would be interesting. Thanks.
Its in the plans
That storm was crazy
I forgot to throw in a "have a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your Family!!!" on the last chat!!! 🍗🍲🍷🏕
Cruising with Captain Robert
Thank you for taking this trip, always wondered what it looked like up north 👍
Great video. I have not seen that part of the country yet. You just keep getting better.

Epic journey with all that storms.
I was in Iowa City the day before you were on my way out to Utah from Wisconsin.

Crazy that you got to experience the derecho
Great fun as always Robert.
We just missed those storms on our way back east coming from Yellowstone and Arches.
you could to a 100 more tours and i would watch 99 of them for sure my friend.
Great episode. We were right behind you (and that storm) headed from Denver back to New Jersey, stopping in Des Moines for a few hours.
Be safe that Colorado is a good looking truck and you're mini tini looks good behind It
imagine my surprise when I saw Pelicans in Fergus Falls Minn. It's their breeding grounds. They migrate every year from the Gulf Coast. They leave when it gets cold. (Anti-snowbirds) How bad were the bugs at the lake?
another masterpiece tio roberto. always a pleasure.
Wow lots of new friends
Thanks Traveling Robert! Awesome episode!
