      @@norbertrivera They pulled out of the US market years ago, to everyone's sadness after their Kuro (one of the best ever made). Reason, I'm not sure.. Love (and still own) an awesome Panasonic Plasma. To this day still stands up pretty good to modern OLED too imo, with 500hz and none of that fake framerate soap opera effect on those 120/240hz OLED's and doesn't suffer smoothness in fast moving content. Hoping they return with something using the MicroLED or MiniLED technologies, which looks to be a best of OLED and QLED (e.g. the brightness, scale and anti burn-in of QLED with the inky black levels of OLED) if it ends up with smooth fast action without the soap opera fake frame rate effect, it'll be the holy grail of TV tech to get.

    Thank you for mentioning the fact the Panasonic does not give you access to the VOD services which is a serious limitation to the OS of this TV I do not know whether this shortcoming has been sorted out in the 2020 models. This means for the unsuspecting purchasers, that you do not get Disney etc. To get around this I purchased a ROKU system for £25.00 and this helped me immensely.

I'm wondering if you will do a review on the TV from One+ which will launched in India this month. I'm waiting for a TV which has both QLED and Dolby Vision. I have a Panasonic V10 Plasma which I bought following HDTVTest's review in 2009. Still own it, damn fantastic tv, only downside is the power consumption and heat it throws out. Now that TV cost me £1k in 2009, realistically I should be looking to replace it these days. £1k for 10 years is a good investment, but these days I really cant see myself stretching 1k for a tv again. Which is why im looking at the GX800, but honestly its all greek to me these days and everytime i do a search around for a nice replacement I end up giving up - man im getting old hah

    One thing i noticed since owning one of these tvs. In a dark room blacks are acceptable for edgelit. Best in this price range anyway. But when viewing with the lights on or in the daytime blacks are inky black like oled levels of black. My friend who owns an oled mistook this TV for an oled when watching it in the daytime. Because of black level, picture quality and how thin the TV is. I like the sound in this TV too. No need for a soundbar.

    • @mattmonkey6716
      @mattmonkey6716 4 роки тому +2

      @OguzKhan Desperado yup. As vincent says no blooming. Edgelits dont tend to bloom as no lighting behind the screen. Add ambient lighting and it makes blacks inky black. This tv is also designed to look like an oled at just 5mm thick. But in a dark room it looks nothing like oled.

    • @markbanner6473
      @markbanner6473 4 роки тому +2

      @@mattmonkey6716 Some people may mock. But I have the 50" version and I've never seen blacks as good as the blacks on this TV outside of OLED. I can see how an untrained eye would think OLED when ambient light is around. Adaptive backlight set on mid works well for me. Also the motion is better than expected, even with 24p movies.

    • @mattmonkey6716
      @mattmonkey6716 4 роки тому

      @@markbanner6473 Uhuh. I also have Panasonics flagship led tv the DX902. Thats fald backlight with 512 dimmable zones. In the daylight or light room the GX800 rivals it. But at night or dark room the DX902 totally smokes it. But then it should as it was 3 grand.

    • @markbanner6473
      @markbanner6473 4 роки тому

      @@mattmonkey6716 I don't need all that much light in the room to still get really decent blacks. In the dark though OLED and as you say 3 grand led TVs will smoke it. Mind you in total darkness I'd wager that the blacks on this TV look better than any TV ever in or around this price range. I'm surprised how I can watch a movie in the dark on the 50GX800 in the bedroom, and still enjoy it. TVs we've had in the bedroom in the past have looked horrible in the dark when watching a movie.

      I had this tv and returned it after some time.. and holding onto my Plasmas... I agree with you.. It looks very oled like ;-).. But there are some big issues. Viewing angles are so bad, even if you sit straight in front in Black level/dark areas suffer from viewing angles.. LED Phosphor backlight.. There is a strobe/flashing light effect when your eyes move to a different part of the screen because of this phosphor coating.. and the worst: The glossy screen that just does not deliver how a glossy screen should.. My Plasmas have less reflections than this lcd panel.. Glossy, but still black.. Even in a dark room the reflections can cause problems..

    Loved the review. I visited the store here in Norway and spent a considerable time testing the 55" GX830. The 50 inch version was updated to the latest firmware and connected to UA-cam and I looked at several 4K videos. I also tried to play around with the settings (turning off almost all the extra processing off). I also tried to play around with the backlight, brightness and contrast settings. Whatever I did, the videos appeared washed out. The 65 version seemed better (but it was not connected to Internet, so I could not see anything more than the demo videos which kept playing in a loop.) These TV's were sitting next to the Sony XG8577 and the Panasonic FZ800, both of which seem to be much better. Could it be that the demo piece was having an issue? Or is this some issue only with UA-cam?

    Thanks for the review. I've looked at this TV several times in my local shop. I noticed that the edges of objects appear slightly soft, which gives the overall picture a slightly flat look, although it's not a deal breaker. Also in dark scenes I saw some noise in the black areas. You never mentioned the quality at SD level. I've seen reviews slating the quality, which could be a deal breaker for people who watch a lot of SD content.

    I don't get this, the Spec on this TV states 1800 Hz BMR IFC Processing Picture Quality Rate but the Screen Panel is 60Hz, can you please explain the difference? I really want to buy this but feel my older Panny 58-DX750b is better, as I'm sure it has 120Hz?

    Vincent I need your help. HDR content on my gx820 is excellent went watching in true cinema mode. However, when watching HD content the colours are washed out, with a green tint. The colour space is set to normal. Switching to auto or native the colours are shocking neon. Help!!!

      depends on the games u play but this model is fine for world of tanks. Next srep up is LG nanocell cos its a 100hz screen but is it really worth the extra premium? Not so in my own opinion, this TV gives you Dolby vision and atmos (as does the better LG nanocell models) thats why I bought it.

    Vincent, I guess you are following the news about big phone brands getting into TV business in big Asian markets like Oneplus TV(QLED+Vision+Atmos) releasing on 26th Sep and Motorola releasing their 4k TVs of various sizes with Dolby Vision and integrated Soundbar. Will you be getting it for a review like how you do TCL models? We know they are not OLEDs but still would like you to review it for all who like your work.

    Hi there, Could anyone who knows about this TV or own it tell me how it handles sport in terms of Dirty Screen Effect, blooming and motion. I am keen to buy this TV but I need to know about these features. I am torn between this and the Sony XF9005 but I was more impressed with the cinematic quality of this TV. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Hi Vincent. I’ve just purchased a TX-40GX820B tv. Just looking for your suggested setting for colour gamut? Should I set to normal, which looks a little washed, and increase colour to suit? Or should I select Auto which looks slightly oversaturated, and decrease the colour?
