Hey not gonna trip about it......but i'm not "king richard". I saw the thumbnail and got excited that you got to my request, then said king richard and I was like WHAT? no way two dudes requested the same song at the same time. That threw me for a loop. Then you mentioned the Damn Yankees and knew you really meant me.
    Frostrazor, man.....Frostrazor! :-P
I do however appreciate the compliment in musical taste you paid me. That's something I take pride in. Rock on, brother, T.

If you go back to Wilson Pickett to James brown and Steve marriot , thats where they all took for the high screech .
      Robert plant included.
David was from the same era
Fronting Deep Purple before Whitesnake .
      Plant ripped off Steve marriot.

Honestly….Zeppelin is my favorite band…and I also own and love this CD. There will NEVER be another Zep, but Jimmy still ached to play, create and perform. After doing his project with Paul Rodgers (The Firm), and then releasing a solo album (Outrider), he was chomping at the bit to get back onstage. Jimmy never fell out of love with hard rock and blues, so yes, his music would sound like Zep. He formed Zep and produced it, and that was the sound he loved.
He listened to dozens of tapes of vocalists, but found no inspiration. Then someone suggested that he meet with Coverdale. Coverdale and Page were both with the same record label at the time, so no contract issues. They got along very well, and then met for several days at. Coverdale’s Tahoe digs to see if they could create music together. This was in early 1991. This album is the result. I love this album, and I’m a Zep fanatic. It REALLY pissed Robert Plant off, because He saw Coverdale as an imitator, and he saw Jimmy as trying to form another Zeppelin. . Some Zep fans reacted the same way. I understand the emotion, but also feel that Jimmy had every right to peruse his own career and create the sound he wanted. And he wanted a singer that sounded like Plant. And Robert had no interest, at that time, in singing hard rock. This is actually a great album. Jimmy did no guitar solo on this song, but he does on many of the others. Jimmy also did the harmonica parts on this. The drummer is excellent, but of course we all miss Bonzo.
The last track, Prayer for the Dying, is my favorite. Very powerful…great lyrics.

The drummer/percussionist was Dennis Carmassi ex- Heart member, who did the best 'Zepp covers in their concerts, wish the bootlegs were a click away, the Kennedy Center Honors performance out did the original, I think Jimmy's collaboration with D.C. gave Percy a kick in the ass,but business, logic,& creative rivalry finally motivated him to reconcile with what made him in the 'bizz in the first place, J.P. & the 'Zepp sound

Sounds like Led Zeppelin because it's Jimmy Page! This is Jimmy's best playing post Zeppelin in my opinion! A lot of these guitar riffs Jimmy Page already wrote just before John Bonham passed away! And would have been on the next Led Zeppelin album if John Bonham didn't pass away! Jimmy and Bonham wanted to go back to the hard rocking routes for their next album!

People need to check out older Whitesnake. The 1987 album is great, but it's their biggest hit album and everyone thinks of them as the band they were on that album, a "hair metal" band.
Try some songs like "Don't Break My Heart Again", "Love Hunter", "Child of Babylon", "Sweet Talker", Walking in the Shadow of the Blues". Coverdale replaced ian Gillan in Deep Purple for a few years before he formed Whitesnake. Jon Lord and Ian Paice of Deep Purple were in Whitesnake for a few years, during the earlier years, my favorite period of Whitesnake.

The music is gonna have that Zeppelin vibe because of Jimmy Page. Coverdale was always a bluesy singer. Check him out before Whitesnake when he recorded 3 albums with Deep Purple. Early Whitesnake was bluesy hard rock. The drummer is Denny Carmassi (Montrose, Sammy Hagar solo, Heart, Ted Nugent, Whitesnake and David Coverdale solo).

it's missing the chemistry of Zeppelin. You immediately get that zep feel when Page starts playing and that feel increases a little when David starts singing but...
A lot of people, unfairly I think, gave Coverdale a hard time for being a Plant wannabe. He couldn't help looking and sounding a little like Plant it's just who he is. He's a great singer, not quite up to Plant standards but very few are.

Critical reception towards Coverdale-Page was generally mixed; some music critics praised Coverdale and Page's partnership as a successful blend of both their respective bands. However, others viewed the collaboration as a second-rate Led Zeppelin, with many drawing unfavourable comparisons between Coverdale and Robert Plant. The album charted in 12 countries, including reaching number four in the UK and number five in the US. It was certified platinum in the US and Canada, respectively. Following a short Japanese tour in December 1993, Coverdale and Page parted ways. A reissue is tentatively scheduled for 2023, while Coverdale and Page have also discussed a potential reunion.

Yeah, it was missing Robert Plant lol. He had that X factor lyrical charisma that David Coverdale was missing. The music on this entire album is AMAZING btw, but the whole time you’re waiting for Robert to be the one singing In his style with his own lyrics because you just know he would bring the zing.
Side note: most people believe Jimmy Page did this collaboration because he knew Robert would be pissed that it was with the most well-known Robert Plant impersonator (Coverdale), and that was how Page convinced Robert to team up with him for the Page & Plant project.

U got it exactly right... "almost Zeppelin" is what it was. Missing was the beat of the late John Bonham.
People expected another Zeppelin record from Plant & Page in 1998 in 'Walking into Clarksdale'... but what they got was half the majesty. Without John Bonham? Without John Paul Jones?
Good record, but the magic chemistry was missing.
Whitesnake was formed by singer David Coverdale after the 1976 break up of Deep Purple. They released a string of great rock albums from the late 70's to 1990. In America, they got huge after their 1987 'Whitesnake' album was a megahit on MTV.
Coverdale disbanded Whitesnake in 1991, but after solo albums failed in the 90's, he reformed the band in 2002. He just announced that Whitesnake will be on their farewell tour.
    Classic Whitesnake songs:
'Fool for your loving'... 'Wings of the storm' ... "Now you're gone" ... "Crying in the rain" ... 'Slide it in' ... "Love ain't no stranger" ... "Bad boys" ... 'Is this love' ... 'Here I go again'... 🔥🔥🔥

You are wrong. It was well received by critics. Unfortunately, it was released right in the middle of the whole Nirvana and Grunge movement craze. It did not sell many copies back then simply because not many people knew about it. All the attention was on Nirvana and many great non grunge materials got overlooked because of it. The same thing happened with Robert Plants Fate Of Nations, also released about the same time as Coverdale/Page. I remember NPR did a Listen To Album/Interview with Dave and Jimmy days before it was released. Dave and Jimmy had plans for a follow album, but the tour supporting debut did not generate enough money for the label to green lit the follow up, the same Nirvana reason, not many people knew they were on the road on tour.

This was one of your worst reviews. And it proves that with legions of people, because they're so hypocritical, you can't win no matter what you do. I remember well when the Firm's debut album came out. Everyone thought it would sound like Zeppelin meets Bad Company, but it didn't. The Firm were relentlessly criticized for not doing what people "expected". Then Page teams up with David Coverdale, who was in DEEP PURPLE in the 70's for f*cks sake, and everyone complained that it sounded like Zeppelin meets Whitesnake, or too "modern day". Like I said, legions of people are just idiots. Coverdale/Page is a fantastic album, and light years better than anything Robert Plant did post Zeppelin. Coverdale/Page went PLATINUM in the U.S. No small feat considering it was released smack dab in the middle of the grunge revolution that was dominating rock music and radio and MTV at the time.
For those of you who love hard rock and Zeppelin that haven't heard this album, ignore this review. It's a great album, and I still listen to it roughly 30 years after its release. And yes, it sounds like Zeppelin meets Whitesnake with more of a modern sounding production (considering that Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 and this album was released in 1993). Oh and by the way, for those of you who don't really like The Firm, and don't really care for Coverdale/Page, perhaps you need to examine the fact that what you're really saying is you refuse to except anything Jimmy Page does unless it's in Zeppelin, which in case you didn't know.....is asinine.

I agree with you on this post. When I originally heard this song it was during my "Zeppelin" journey, so I couldn't help but to compare their sound and expect it to be more like Zeppelin. In actuality this was both artist being original. This is one of the fallacies of being a reactor because you are introduced to so much music from different periods of an artist's career that you lose context. Here it is a year later, I've consumed way more music and have a better understanding of Jimmy page and David Coverdale and "The Firm". This is what Coverdale explain; the project did not earn the EXPECTED profit. I knew about the album before it was released because I listened to the NPR unveiling listening program. What you are talking about is the news hyping a Zepplin reunion after their Live Aid live reunion. During the late 80's Jimmy had revealed he was working on new material but was secretive about if it was a solo project or a Zepplin reunion. Robert later expressed he was interested about Jimmy's plans to release new material and would like to be part of it, but Jimmy was still tightlipped about if it was a solo or a Zepplin reunion. Later it was revealed that Jimmy and Coverdale were working together on the supposed new material as just an experiment. Robert did not have ill feelings toward Coverdale. Robert just felt Jimmy should have capitalized on a Zepplin reunion instead of using his material on a side project. Robert responded by writing the song Calling To You as a way to say that they are destined to reunite and work together again. Unfortunately, both CoverdalePage and Plant's Fate Of Nation were released in the middle of the Nirvana and Grunge movement craze. Each of their albums flew under the radar because all eyes and ears were on Nirvana. The reason why CoverdalePage did not earn the expected profit was simply because few people knew about it.
