Hi from the UK. I’m doing the exact same project with the exact same bike I recently had imported from California. I also have carb problem and a lot more haha. Hope to return it to nearly new condition. Looking forward on the next part of this video.
Old dirt bikes, where do you look to buy from the USA/California? I’m interested in buying one but after moving to Spain I may have to look further afield.
@@2WheeledPatinaThomasC I contacted “ all American imports” in Bristol uk as I could not find any in uk . They said they let me know when they got one but had to bid for it on eBay. But they were great and very helpful. I heard there’s many BRP in Germany and Holland . Hope it helps
@@OldDirtBikes thanks for that information, it’s the same with the xr600, there are hardly any in the uk but everywhere else has them at affordable prices.
Hi Great info Just bought a 650R and soon as I turned on the petcok fuel would leak straight out of one of the black overflow lines lost all my fuel just about as I walked away. Now I know why. Cheers from Aus.
After all those Christmas cakes and candy, that 650 would have to be a 1500cc to haul my big butt around. You know we pack it in during the holidays, here in Shingletown, John.... You know I am not a dirt bike rider. Never have owned one. I have owned over 40 bikes in my 46 years of riding, but not one has been a dirt bike..... I will watch the reconditioning of this XR650R, but I would rather see another street bike rebuild. Something like a Vmax1200 shipped to my door here in Shingletown...
I’m interested in that top triple tree and damper setup since you’re going back to stock. It would be a good excuse to ride my xr650r over the pass to Reno ; )
Greetings! Happy new year! I too am restoring a XR650R, may I ask what you are using to make your plastics nice and Shiny? Great Vid's , I want the same Wiring you have done. Looks and works awesome
Hi there, Awesome video on the XR. I was wondering if you are located near Reno, Sparks, or even Carson city. I recently picked up an 02 XR myself and will be doing what you plan on doing with your XR. It’d be nice to have a guide through this process. Can’t wait to see upcoming videos on your restoration process.
@@JTSCUSTOMS Cool, I’m in Sparks. Will you be letting go of the brp mount and scott’s damper? If so, I would like to come check it out since it’s on my mod list. I would love to check out your build in person if possible.
HI JT, I also own an XR650 and totally like your videos about it! In your video you mention 2 bis gas tanks.. im looking for one. Let me know if you would sell me one. Cheers and thanks for your tech input!
Looking forward to this one, love the XR's. Recently completed a similar KLX300r. Is the old Baja Designs kit for sale? If not, no biggie but I may be able to help you out with NOS headlight straps I did not use earlier.
Shoot I just ordered two new ones. The Baja Kit may still stay on the bike but only time will tell? I have all the tusk stuff for the conversion except for the head light. Just don't know yet what the end result will be? Keep watching and if it looks like I am pulling the baja I would gladly sell it to you. Thanks John
install a mikuni tm40-6 from Mikuni Oz, they have a sorted kit that turns the 650r into a real puller (the stock carb is so restrictive despite what you hear)....
To be able to watch them get done, first hand, is a blessing. I am honored to be a witness. #jt'scustoms #isthebest
Best motorcycle ever and nice clean shop
Original Grandeur. Well said. Well done

Glad the video helped!
Hey JT, it looks like you may have a aftermarket vortex ignition. I’ve looking for on and would trade for my OEM CDI plus cash

Joe you would love a dirt bike! No rules no police and a great feeling of freedom

Why would you make it stock again.?

Is this Alex??
I'll step in line for the top triple and stabilizer if you still have it. ;)
I can trade lots of stock 650r stuff: headlight, triple, little bits and odds and ends...
All that stuff is long gone.
