Prayers go out to Damar Hamlin and his family.
Prayers go out to Peyton Hillis and his family.
That likelihood of him getting hit in the exact place on his chest with the exact timing needed to cause what happened to happen is so incredibly small, but with how often people take hits like this in the NFL, I suppose it was bound to happen sometime. I'm hoping he pulls through and that we never see this again.
@@michaeljones-um8sn Being a Republican increases your chance of dying from a heart attack and self inflicted gun shot wounds 🤣
@@AlexJiroOkun not a republican but liberals are dumb
Nfl trying to sweep tua's injury under the rug by going all out for damar. Prayers for both players, but nfl only worried about $$$
Peyton ain't got no brain f up ta where he ain't save his kids.! Hope he is well
I remember seeing a video of Terry Crews talking about his time in the NFL and there being a game where he got a pretty bad concussion but was afraid he’d be cut if he told the coach and got removed. After a few more hits it became so bad he didn’t even know where he was or what he was doing and had to have teammates help him lineup and get to the sideline.
North Dallas Forty is criminally underrated. One of my favorite sports films.
The book is great too
Couldn’t agree more. It’s a great comment on professional sports…while being entertaining.
Yep, and I remember being almost shocked (for lack of a better word) when I first saw it not long after it was released. I'd never seen a sports movie take that route before.
1.of my all time faves
The movie was good, the book is better.
any given sunday portraying the “sharks” as the team condoning medical malpractice is oh so fitting 23 years later after seeing how the dolphins’ season shook out
And Tua is starting this week… he’s only 26!
I spoke with a man who played High School football and he told me how he considered a good hit to be one where his fingers tingled afterwards. He was losing feeling in his hands at that time. I can't imagine what happens to the nerves of professional players.
I played college football at Northwestern and couldn't count the times I was concussed. I have seen stars and heard bells and whistles on almost every hit. I was 6'1 215lbs with a4.39 40 yrd dash. I could really hit hard. I'm 39 yrs old now and my memory is shot and I'm starting to get trimmers in my hands. Never let your sons play football.
@brandonphillips9813 look into keto diet. It helps calm the brain, lowers inflammation and gives it better energy then carbs. I've also been concussed and thought I was done until I stayed keto most of the week and internment fast/extended fasting. Hope you feel better. I'm 39 too.
@@mrfake675 Thanks man I'm going to give keto a try.
Respect to those who stood up to tell the truth.. ex players directors SONY big time.. and rip to all those who have suffered due to lack of care... rip junior seau and all those who passed or took there own lives.. you guys are human and you risk your life for us just to keep us entertained unfortunately..
Any Given Sunday was an absolute masterpiece. I bought it as soon as it came out on VHS.
VHS lmfao
@@JohnKlanac-yo5bq Dude when the film came out VHS was still pretty popular
@@JohnKlanac-yo5bqdid you expect him to stream it on Netflix or have it on blu ray when it came out in 1999?
I did too , great film
John must have had it on laser disc lmao remember the giant ass record size disc 😂
WWE has gotten a lot better with being aware of and heavily limiting CTE by making sure to not let people wrestle unless they can pass concussion tests. NFL DEFINITELY needs to do even more than they already have to help limit their players concussions.
Nah. It doesn't matter, fans will always come dude. Few tragedies here and there making it more badass
Concussions will always happen
bc the WWE is scripted you can’t script football, vince mcmahon tried and it was terrible
@@arturorubio1115 scripted but the injuries are real
I mean it did take the WWE a whole tragedy with Chris Benoit and his family to take concussions and CTE way more serious first. 😅
I love the game of football but these movies definitely make you view the game in a different light.
The fact that there used to be (or still exist) the usual "NFL biggest hits of the week/month" on TV, really says something about the responsibility of the league on the whole issue.
It's not only a "ratings issue" as many owners think, it's a life or death issue.
This!!! 🙌🏼 Too many people say it's just football injuries are bound to happen, but hitting as hard and as nasty as possible is applauded and rewarded- not just stopping them. Its actually my least favorite part cause of feel for those carted away and wearing down and beating their bodies to the bone
@@AmandaabnamAeven soccer players get cte. It just comes with the territory of sports
i remember listening to a radio program that was on local programming discussing the upcoming movie, "Concussion". it was very intense and revealing about the evils of the game and the damages to the players, alluding to the NFL covering up the brutality. about 10 minutes into the broadcast, it was abruptly cut off. the program just stopped. there was no sound even though the station was still transmitting. about two minutes later, another program came on: a cooking show. yep, thats when i said i HAD to see the movie. Will Smith was great! there's a book that came out during that time called, "The League of Denial." It focused on concussions in the NFL. i think it had about 350 pages in it and im not much of a reader but i went to my local library and checked it out...i finished it in one day.
They sure suck at naming movies nowadays
North Dallas Forty
Concussion
In 1979 Roger Staubach retired as Dallas QB. He stated he'd been getting too many concussions. None of us realized back then he was onto something. I played 3 years jr high and high school. I wrestled for 3 years. And suffered various other blows to my head including being knocked out when hit with a gun. I often wonder if CTE is in my future.
I remember 5 concussions in 1 year. Remember him and Bradshaw getting knocked out cold and the smelling ammonia salts to bring them back. And they would return to the game. I believe Mrs. Staubach wanted her husband out of the NFL too.
Metal kleets stepping on people's backs. Head hunting by corners and safeties (Doug Plank-Bears).
Legally hitting flakers down the field. It was brutal. Heck players had off season jobs (salesperson, mechanics) to make ends meet.
Game was different in 60's and 70's. For those who don't know in the 1950s u could hit a player on the ground who was still moving. All true.
Me too, but unlike these "pros" that get paid millions and blow it, I did it for the love of the game. I saw Theismann. I saw Byrd. I knew. My parents knew. It was fun. I'll be a man and take the good with the bad, like everything else in life.
Probably not, these dudes get concussions every week, not remembering whole games...
@@KelzKelz the ground can cause them
God bless I hope not
North Dallas 40 took you in a week of what it would be like for nfl players in the 60s and 70s the book really tells it like it is more than the movie did.
As a young man, I look back at games from the 60s-70s and wonder if these players were too tough for their own good, or too courageous. It seems like no one back then was able to walk off the field without suffering at least a minor injury. And probably many, many concussions.
Playing hurt was not only valorized back then, but players were genuinely in fear of losing their jobs if they didn't play with injuries.
@@3243_yeah I just recently watched North Dallas Forty and my first thought as soon as the film ended was “yep all these guys will 100% be in a union in the futur especially at the end when they terminate his contract essentially for talking to another team.
I think the movie 'The Last Boy Scout' should also be included to show the gambling side of the sport too, which is only getting bigger with Draft Kings and multiple fantasy football leagues that fans can make money from. The mass gambling, fantasy football leagues, and Vegas odds being televised as they are for fans to make money at the expense of players' safety, not only is the NFL a multi billion dollar juggernaut, gambling in the sport is also a multi billion dollar industry.
The average person has no clue that these sites are designed for select few sharks to win. I don't even know if you can say the sharks win since they have inside information about the players and the coanching strategy for the games.
@breadandcircuses8127 time they get outta bed as Vegas isn't clean
This also makes the outcomes more interesting as well.
@@TerryKimble-hx9kb "More interesting?" Missed PAT's, missed calls, bad calls, no calls, stupid overtime rules none of those things make the game more interesting.
You're on my page man! It's an infirmia! It WILL destroy people's lives! Inside information will put more than just players in jeopardy! When a piece of inside info can make your bet W or L, if there is enough money at stake people will get beat up or shot over that! It's no joke! There are aspects of the game you can bet on as it's being played, that's just crazy! People are going to go broke over this shit, and the NFL will say it's not their fault! That's cold!
I had a good friend Dave Edwards who played with Gent on those Cowboys teams. I asked Dave once about Gent's book, he said the movie is close, but the book is totally accurate.
Did anybody remember the show "playmakers" on ESPN that was the one show the League got rid of
Facts, they made ESPN pull that show completely
Yup and the guys who made Playmakers also did the campaign story mode in Blitz The League & Blitz The League 2
Yup🙋🏾♂️
That show was amazing
That was a great show!!! Too bad it got cancelled!!! Imagine if playmakers happened today in the social climate we’re living in now
A good friend of mine sent me a link to a tiktok video of an ex NFL player talking about how unglamorous the NFL really is for the players. He ended his video saying ask the girlfriends and wives about their men playing in the NFL and you'll get the truth of how bad it is on it's players.
Millions
What’s the name of the player or tiktok?
I’d love to see the clip
This video really has me thinking about what tua is going through right now. Or in the future
I was thinking the same when they said “3 concussions in 5 months” pretty sure Tuas numbers are not far off and his career is only just beginning. Extremely sad that injuries have already derailed such a talented players career but the only thing anyone should be focused on is his long term health and well being. Not the numbers.
@@logos8626 The only thing the teams, the fans, and the talking heads on ESPN or NFL Network care about is winning. The players are pieces that can - and, will - be replaced. Tua should think about getting out before his brains are scrambled.
@@Diogenes-ty9yy Then crocked players will be shit on especially online when they're playing with injuries.
I think the film The Last Boy Scout also touched on sports gambling, and drug use in pro football as well as the corruption in both pro football & politicians
I remember one year in pee wees when I was 11or 12 one team we played had this kid that single handed playing MLB and RB whooped us to the point we didn't even score. They ended up doing an investigation and the dude was 16. Just smashing all of us. I remember the ringing in my head. One kid was so scared he started crying and would not take the field. A few kids parents took them off the team after that game.
I only played organized football when I was 9 to 12 years old, over 60 years ago. I remember we were playing a team with a little quick and fast running back and, one play, he came around my side, juked to my right, and I stuck out my forearm, caught him under his chin, and flipped him on his back, a hard landing. He was lying there, whimpering in pain and my teammates surrounded me, slapping my back and congratulating me on a great tackle. I still remember it and I still feel guilty about hurting that kid.
I experienced that going against a team in pee wee,my neck has never been the same I’m over 50 now. I gave it up after 2seasons,so I can’t imagine some of these dudes.I was better at baseball anyway
Was this in North ridgeville how long ago
These videos need more recognition. Very underrated channel!!!!!
Thanks! It really means a lot
Problem is people dont care , its like gladiators in a arena kill or be killed and sick people love this type of violence ,and thats why players are paid so high , cause the risk is high .. They dont seem to care about there safety just fame and fortune , sad world
Another fantastic documentary. Keep up the good work Beastmode!
For some of you too young to remember the NFL in 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's the hits were brutal and punishing. Today's game. Back in the day Bone crushing hits by defense and offense was insane. It was like Gladiators at the Roman Coliseum.
So Pete Gent and Don Meredith were good friends and Gent ask Don to play Seth Maxwell the quarterback in North Dallas 40. Don Meredith turned it down. He was asked later when the movie came out and was a success why he turned the role down that would have made Meredith a bigger star than he was at the time doing Monday night football and tv commercials and regular gigs on police shows. Don told the man that asked him why he turned it down that he didn't want people to think that the character was him in real life the man then told Meredith but Don it is you lol
I find it interesting that the NFL was worried about the first 2 movies - they were made during a time when they also showed murderous hits during games as highlight reels. And in fact, people loved them - still do. The "Concussion" film probably was the biggest one that affected them, but the fact that they took out many of the true parts, is sort of interesting. That being said, many fans today are complaining that QB's should wear dresses because they can't be hit. Maybe not all, but many fans want to see the crushing hits. I gotta' rewatch those movies now. Great video - thank you.
I wanna see em leveled. The wide receiver and qb flags ruin the excitement. Finesse is for basketball and golf. Football is a powerful brutal sport.
IIRC, it was Hall of Famer Alex Karras who originally made the comment about QBs being so protected that "they should make 'em wear dresses." And, Alex Karras saw his health deteriorate and eventually he died suffering from CTE and the physical effects of pro football. RIP, Alex, I'm sure you're in a better place now.
@@kenw2225those are still people at the end of the day they deserve to enjoy life after the game
@@kenw2225you just favor violence over skill and conscience decisions, and now add a corrupt establishment to the mix lol
@@kenw2225can't you just appreciate skill and athelticism? Those hits leave so much wear and tear on the body that doesnt need to happen for the game to exist. Most of these players do not get paid enough to have a senior citizems body at 35
Great work man! I think you could have added Playmakers to this list as well!
I was thinking the same thing. I believe that it was the nature of the show that eventually led to its cancellation by ESPN. From what I heard the NFL complained and that's why the network pulled the plug on it.
Thanks for the idea! I'm definitely considering giving the show Playmakers a video on its own.
All 3 movies are great, but if you needed a movie to tell you that football as a game and as a business chews up athletes and spits them out broken, you haven't been paying attention
Your timing in showing this is impeccable. Thank you!
Why? Cuz someone collapsed from the Vaccine?
@@bradbufton1517 Not at all fool, because it's pertinent, needed information we all needed to know.
@@Kenny-zv4pp oh sorry didn't realize u was a jackass and had to be told in a you tube video that football is dangerous. Good thing u finally found out.
U know why u made the comment. Don't play stupid. Guess it's not playing stupid if u think what happened to Damar had anything to do with the lightest contact in football I've ever seen.
North Dallas Forty is great. Gritty, realistic and unflinching in showing what professional football was undoubtedly like in the 1960s and 70s. Any Given Sunday by comparison was cartoonish. I just couldn’t get into it.
Dudes getting paid millions (football, MMA and boxing) we all know the risks, glory doesn’t come without costs. like with most things in life you always have to gamble and pay some kind of price. #godspeed
I think they're likening the NFL to tobacco companies back in the 50s or whatever. Players are obviously aware of the injury risks, but the problems of CTE (or at least the observed phenomena named CTE) haven't really been recognized or highlighted.
Your statement about MMA shows your lack of knowing anything. UFC is always under fire for barely paying anyone.
@@josephdavis1704 regardless of if your getting bank or not your still chasing the glory so that’s the price you pay 🤡
@@u.sgrant7526no especially in the modern times we have all stages of cte and what they are
Wow, just wow. Thank you for putting all of this together. Great documentary on the other side of this game.
There was a book called _The Code: Football's Unwritten Rules and Its Ignore-At-Your-Own-Risk Code of Honor._ It’s a very good interesting book.
If you want something even greater than these, you should find ESPNs PLAYMAKERS series. It ran for one season, and before ESPN could run it back the NFL had some issues with the content.
That was an amazing doc/video essay. You have a gift.
I've never seen Dallas 40 I gotta find it
Thank you for covering this topic. Unfortunately, as a person with Post Concussion Syndrome, I can’t hear the narration above the loud music and sound effects. A good documentary doesn’t need such blaring sound effects to be effective. It’s a documentary not a music video.
Please do more like this!!!
Just ask Andrew Luck. Fortunately he was smart enough to hold them to the terms of if his contract then retire before he was completely crippled.
Excellent transition From Any Given Sunday to Concussion
all of you’re videos are so well made
Thanks so much! It means a lot.
GREAT GREAT VIDEO!!! YOU DESERVE AN AWARD !!
Makes alot of sense how the NFL is a WAY different game today than it was back then.
Amazing piece of work.
The way those receivers back then had stick-um everywhere 😂😂😂
If you like those films watch the Program
That’s a great film
I was going to mention that. Great movie!
Like any contact sport, injuries are a given. I played five years of team club football and even with full pads and a Rieddel helmet, I knew to leave after a knee and lower back injury. Pro players do it for the crazy money contracts, no different than those who go to a war zone to work as mercenaries and contractors for war profiteers.
George Green Tampa
I was referred to a neurologist for lower back pain several years ago. Turns out he is a consulting neurologist for a local NFL team. I tried talking stats and players with him and I remember him saying "Remember, these guys get paid millions of dollars to play a game". When I pressed him further on players who had neurodegenerative conditions like ALS, CTE etc he repeated the first line about them getting paid millions and followed it with "they know the risks but they follow the money"
Mike Webster is such a sad story. What a disgrace. RIP Iron Mike🪦
I wish someone would make a movie about rigged pro sports and what happens behind the scenes and who determines the outcomes and how they keep it away from the public. Would be awesome.
Very well done broski.
I've seen concussion so many times and this is back 20 years ago it was based letting these players die for entertainment money and for the teams to win I still need to watch North dallas forty and any given day watching this and seeing these 3 films put together answers a lot of questions.
First time here very well done.
Nice video great information bro
you should've mentioned PLAYMAKERS, the espn original drama that aired around '99-2000! the nfl immediately had them cancel that program!
It was a weekly drama series which ran on ESPN in 2003. It followed a fictional pro football team's players, coaches, and their owner. It depicted things like players playing while injured, players getting into off-field legal trouble, homophobia (one of the players was gay and trying to hide it at the time), etc.
Great video. Now I want to watch North Dallas 40
Its been on free app "Pluto tv" all month
@@kevinbrown7326 I saw it was on there on Google. It was a good movie
It's a good film
I don’t remember that concussion movie. I don’t even remember seeing previews for it. Will have to check it out.
north dallas forty is my new favorite sports movie. It's hardcore on another level
Robert here, Pop Warner to 2nd yr Pac 10. Coaches teach brutality. Practice brutal hitting on DL and other defensive players. I personally played Corner Back, Free Safety. Taught myself soon as football touches opponent in secondary hit with shoulder pads! Coaches wanted helmet 1st, ha I wouldn't, Coaches got mad, took me out of games. My solution, interceptions or fumbles, HS 9 ints, 7 fumbles x 3 yrs, UCLA 4 ints, 5 fumbles x's 2 years. Quit coz it was time. Ex USN CPO Desert Storm MBA.
Great vid ! 😊
Another Great Video
It's not quite "Rollerball" yet.
But I still have hope.
Very nice video
What's awesome about this is...none of it is new. Sure, Concussion made the league change a number of aspects of the violence...and Any Given Sunday, is basically a modernized version of North Dallas 40...the NFL survived that & players still do the same thing today. I remember what Antonio Brown went through at his end. Racism? Homophobia of the likes of Jerry Smith? Oh, yeah that's also part of the multi-billion dollar game. The publicity navigated through Kaepernick kneeling, concussions..
great job on the vid😎
Thanks for your Support!
The NFL got the will smith movie sanitized by having NFL public relations soften the reality of life in the game.
Nice video!
Thanks!
thank you too the players
who sacrificed they careers
just too open our eyes
These movies seem almost comedic in how melodramatic they are
I honestly don’t think you could remake/release Ace Ventura Pet Detective in this PC culture. A kicker who mentally snapped after missing a game winning kick, goes to a mental institution, breaks out, kills a female hiker, takes her identity, transitions into the murdered lady. Gets a job in the Miami police force and rises through the ranks to become a feared Lieutenant. Secretly houses thugs to do his/her dirty work to send the NFL franchise who he/she once helped get to the Super Bowl into complete disarray during a return trip to the Super Bowl, even murdering a high ranking media relations official for the dolphins, kidnapping a hall of fame quarterback and stealing a loved mascot who is just a innocent animal.
A damn good video....
PERIOD !!
Played football and had head injuries one day nose started bleeding out of no where and I'm 30 now and have a hard time remembering stuff I did back then and when I was a kid
How can football b most violent but no guarantees on $$$
At the end of the day, like the NBA, MLB, every other sports league, and WWE, the NFL exists as a company to make money. That is what they are. Despite ruling all of television, they are still just a company.
Never knew fred belifnikoff was an activist more respect for the hall of famer
Hell of a video
You are my favorite football chanel man. As much as I love X's and O's nobody here is doing what you're doing.
Another film that portrayed professional football in a negative light: The Last Boyscout.
they even removed concussions from the nfl licensed games..... as if we all don't watch and see them live
I believe HBO had a show called "first and ten"that was waaay ahead of its time that the n.f.l got taken off..
It was dam good too!
The book has a ending that happens after Elliots meeting after the Chicago game involving the woman Elliott meets at the party. If you read the book you know.
I have zero sympathy for men who get paid millions to play a game a few days out of the year.
I have to sit down and watch these movies.
2:01 please ladies, do not bring back the turtle neck bikini 😂
Tommy Reamon was Michael Vick's high school football coach at Warwick high school!
Holy moly that was disturbing as hell North Dallas 40 is insane
Jaime Foxx looked like Joe Montana wit dat hit was major real
3 movies i need to watch immediately...
I love any given Sunday. Watched it in theaters and it really plays well on the big screen
Sad that its known but nothing done to prevent these injuries, its in hockey , the NFL , Boxing , wrestling ,martial arts etc
That book is very eye opening I suggest any parent to read it
Remember when Boxing was The Worlds sport?? Nobody cares then folks died n da ring!!
...LT was amazing in this tell all movie... great movie....
I remember when DVDs first became mainstream in the early 2000s. Any Given Sunday was the first dvd we ever owned... Still have it to this day
"Your going against a corporation that owns a day of the week!"
Any given Sunday is a amazing football movie. Great movie.
John Matuszak played 4 more years for the Raiders including the 1981 Super Bowl when the Raiders destroyed the Eagles. Al Davis didn’t give a crap about what Pete Rozelle and the other owners thought. Freddie Biletnikoff MVP for the Oakland Raiders in 1977 Super Bowl had been in the league for 13 seasons and had slowed down. Al Davis didn’t cut Freddie because of his involvement in North Dallas Forty. But it’s quite probable that no other NFL team signed Fred because big his involvement. in the film. Al Davis hated Pete Rozelle with a passion. When Al wanted to move the Raiders to Los Angeles Rozelle and the NFL fought Davis every step of the way before Davis prevailed in court. Legendary Rams receiver Tom Fears to my knowledge never Coached in the NFL again. I’m not sure about scouting jobs. Tommy Reamon was a solid NFL RB ,but not a superstar so I have no doubt he was blackballed by the NFL. As was LB Danny Bunz who made three gosling tackles for the 49 Ers in the 1982 Super Bowl against Cincinnati. After the film came out I think Danny was cut by his team before San Francisco signed him. Tom Fears was also a Consultant on the 1978 Warren Beatty film Heaven Can Wait. That should be goal line tackles by Danny Bunz. Two Chargers who appeared in the film Donny Macek and Big Louie Kelcher continued to play for the SD Chargers after the film was released. So they weren’t blacklisted but Ivthink there were a few more lesser known players that were.
