  • We just had the opportunity to shoot the all new XDM Elite 10mm OSP variant and let us tell you this, its sweet. There are quite a few options out there nowadays for polymer framed 10mm handguns and this is a good one.
    We’ve just switched over to AXIL for hearing protection, and I wish I would’ve sooner! Click here to see what I’m wearing and get the BEST DISCOUNT POSSIBLE: bit.ly/3khch2P

    Springfield Armory has had a full size 10mm XDM before, but not in the Elite series with an optic cut, META Trigger or magwell! These are all welcomed upgrades and are sure to be an improvement on the original. With the META trigger, its a flat faced trigger with reduced pull and take up. A large improvement on the original.
    This pistol packs a 15 round capacity with two supplied stainless steel magazines and enhanced basepads. It is a rather large pistol but its need for the hot 10 MM round. Recoil is very manageable with this pistol and its pleasant to shoot, even under rapid fire.
    The all new XDM Elite 4.5'' 10MM is a full package deal for anyone looking to protect themselves or someone else in harms way! Check one out and let us know how you think it shoots. Thanks for watching Hunt Fish Shoot, and be sure to check out our review of the Springfield XDM Elite Compact 10mm review too! We've also shot the Springfield XDM Elite 9mm.
    We absolutely love the Gatorz ballistic eyewear. Take a look at it yourself using our affiliate link: gatorz.com/huntfishshoot

    My search for my first 10mm came down to three 10s… the xdm elite and the Ronin, and the Operator. And I wasn't even a Springfield guy. In the end, the cost and round capacity had me leaning xdm elite. Once I held an xdm elite in the store and noticed that the flared mag well made it a perfect fit for my large, wide hands I decided on the xdm elite. It felt like a custom fit! I agree the trigger is just OK. So far I can't tell when the trigger pull is about to go bang. That can be a plus or minus but I like to have a good feel for when another millimeter goes boom. I bet those two 1911 models would have been nicer triggers, but I know they'd cost a good deal more and the mag capacity would be considerably less.

    XD grip safety is a feature I appreciate. Shooting 1911's for many years if I shoot a pistol without a grip safety it feels like it is missing something. Also appreciate the loaded chamber ondicator and cocked striker doodad.

      John, the grip saftey is why i got the Springfield. Seen too many vids of guys shooting themselves in the leg pulling a glock. Got rattled playing quick draw & grabbed the trigger on the pull. Screw that noise. Ive been bear attacked & know when the SHTF all that trigger control goes right out the window because ones total focus is on the threat & NOT the gun. Was told thats why the 1911s had one, guys getting too trigger happy in a sudden combat situation. Did see some jackass in the Navy shoot himself 3 times w a 1911 playing quick draw. 1st time only hit a toe, 2nd time through the foot. After he got back from the hospital after months of reconstructive surgery the moron shot himself through the knee & the Navy kicked him out. Too expensive to keep putting him back together. I knew the guy. He was an idiot that should have never been allowed into the military to begin with.

    I'm a law enforcement officer,my department allows you to carry any hand gun you can qualify with has to be a Auto 9,40,45, or 10 mm I carry a Ronin 10 mm I carried a Springfield operator 45 acp for 7 yrs and before I Made the Switch to the 1911 10 mm I spent a year training with it 200 rounds 5 days a week, Using that drill you mentioned 5,10,15,20,25,35,40&50 yards but I tossed in angles also 12 o'clock and 2 & 10 position because that changes the width of the target sight picture,I've been carrying this 10 mm for awhile now and very happy with it, Recoil is nothing really my Glock 22 40 Cal actually feels more snappy than the Ronin,I always felt safe with my 45 acp but knowing now that I have the power of a 10 mm that extra confidence in my opinion Makes a better shooter, There's only 2 Loads for it that are excepted by law enforcement the 180 gr critical defense and a 200 gr Winchester load that is basically a black talon bullet with a different name, I've tested them on ballistic gel blocks and it usually splits the block in half, But thanks for a great video I'm a 10 mm fan Girl

    Interesting! Got 1, for in your face bear/ wolf/ moose defense only. ( Alaska, 38 year bushman) Love it!! Only handgun ive ever shot that hits what i want w/o having to use the sights. Wont have time to sight in a bear attack anyway.) Put 2 double taps into a 5 inch circle @ 15 yards in just slightly over 1 second from draw to 4th round just point shooting. Using 220 grain WNHC Underwood @ 1300 FPS. Never been able to do that with any gun before in my life. 73 years old & normally a lousy pistol shot. Dont ever use optics except the scopes on the hunting rifle. Non on the 45/70 either. Just old fashioned flip up ramp sights. Out to 150 yards they work just fine folded down flat using very hot bear thumper WFNHC 430 grain Buffalo bore. UP CLOSE your only going to have time to look down the bbl & center mass fire w the lever 45/70. Bears are amazingly fast in a charge & usually up close. 2-3 seconds will be all the time you get. Out of all 3 of my in your face bear attacks id have much rather had this than the DA 44 mag. Up here we have soooo many bears going out w/o at least ones backup pistol on is not an option. Damn bears are EVERYWHERE! After seeing your print at 10 yards im even more impressed. Do you ever just " point shoot"?? Seemed like it during your rapid fires. Is it even possible to use the red dot firing that fast?? Ive never used one, have no idea if its even worth having in my particular situations. Kinda old school. More stuff is just more to go wrong.

    • @HuntFishShootChannel
      @HuntFishShootChannel  Рік тому +2

      You can pick up the red dot in speed just as quickly as sights and it can be easier since you don’t have to line anything up. just let the dot land on the target and ready to shoot again! Just a touch of a learning curve and with poor eyesight it’s even better for those with it. Thanks for watching!

      @@HuntFishShootChannel , Nice feedback. Thanks. Out here in bear country sighting is not an option usually. SHTF is just too damned fast & moving in quickly. VERY QUICKLY. If one cant point shoot theyre pretty much screwed. Thats what blew me away with the Springfield. First gun i ever had that fits my hand so perfectly i dont even have to think about aiming. One thing i forgot to mention thou. Its ONLY w the 220 grain Underwoods i was able to pop the mark with such accuracy so fast. Everything else i tried from the S&B to the Buffalo bore bear loads werent even close. Just found the right combination by trial & error accident & its consistant. I think the non fouling coating on thoes hardcasts is what made em shoot smoother & faster & tighter. Underwood sure got it right with thoes. 😁 With all the rest was hitting 12-18 inch circles @ 15 yards. NOT acceptable in grizzly country. Damn Buffalo Bore 190 monometals were the worst. Most expensive too. $63 for a box of 20.( Ouch!) Maybe great for 5-6 feet away but not 15 yards. Go figure...... DO have a red dot on my wolf AR. Works great out to 200. Very few shots are past 100 thou. Damn wolves are a huge problem up here too. Packs of 20+, and they dont usually stop by taking a few out. Thats where the red dot really shines!

    I have a concern about that grip safety. in that if adrenaline is dumping and an ideal grip is not achieved (for example , when unholstering in a bear charge), the gun will not fire. Can you run some tests to evaluate that?

    • @HuntFishShootChannel
      @HuntFishShootChannel  Рік тому +1

      No need to run test, I’ve shot quite few Xdm elites so far and not a single one has had an issue activating the grip safety. It’s very sensitive and poor grip or not I don’t see any issues. I have shot them one handed (left:/right), gloves on and with a soft grip and it always goes bang. I can’t say that with a 1911, on occasion with those and gloves I need to adjust my grip to activate the grip safety.
      I wouldn’t have any concerns if I were you! Thanks for watching! If we get more interest in a video like that, we will do a video just for that!

      The old 5.25 inch 10mm was 15 rounds. They no longer make the 5.25 inch 10mm anymore. They only make the 5.25 inch model in 9mm, and it actually has the highest capacity magazines of any standard 9mm pistol. It comes with 3 22rd magazines. The CZ P10F and CZ P09 come with 21rd magazines. Nonetheless you are right the 4.5 inch 10mm comes with 16rd magazines. The problem with Springfield 10mm magazines is that nobody makes high capacity 10mm magazines, so the 16rd 10mm magazines are really the highest capacity you can get. There is a company that makes a base for the XD 10mm magazines that holds 7 extra rounds. What most people do not know is that the 25rd 45 ACP magazine will actually hold 10mm ammo without modifying the feed lips. So if you buy a 25rd 45 ACP magazine for the XD, you can load it with 28 rounds of 10mm. Most 45 magazines will not hold 10mm ammo without modifying the feed lips, but the XD magazines will. The only other magazines I know of that will is the 45 Grease Gun mags, because they will hold 10mm also without modifying the feed lips.

Never shot a 10mm but have a Ruger GP100 .357 mag that I’m assuming the recoil is similar to? Have you had any instances with the XDM of accidentally hitting the mag release with it being active on both sides?
    Also, have you heard anything about problems with the M&P 10mm pistols (feed or longevity issues)? Or any recent QC issues with M&P’s in general? I’ve always been an M&P guy but haven’t bought in a number of years and have read a few different negative things..

    Just an FYI, the magazine holds 16 rounds. Some earlier versions of the gun shipped with 15 round magazines that had the shoe removed and replaced to work with the XDM Elite 4.5s. This gave it 16 round capacity despite being sighted for only 15 rounds. Try it, put some ammunition in that magazine and you'll see it holds 16.

    Can it handle real 10 mm? Like underwood or the Norma loadings? I have a box of underwood that sends a 180 grain @ 1350 fps! They don’t sell them that hot anymore either, I think they’re 1300 fps now. My G20 handles it well. I put a heavier recoil spring and I think I need a stronger mag spring because the rounds, sometimes, can’t feed because the slide is so fast, at least that’s what I think. When I hit the lotto, I can buy a bunch and test the theory 😅. It’s good to see more 10 mm handguns coming out, it sure looks nicer than my G20😎

Sure for bear defense and hunting they also have hot rounds like buffalo bore, underwood etc but for range ammo and self defense ammo it is very mild and manageable.
