It's really weird isn't it. When it came out I was aware of it but never actively listened to it, just had it on in the background when someone stuck it on, yet... I remember a whole lot of the lyrics and most of the music. It's a sign there was a lot more to it from a pop-music angle (and I really don't mean that in a derogatory way) than most gave them credit for at the time.
I was thinking the same thing. I haven't listened to this album in at least 15 years, didn't really listen to the albums that followed, but this is immediately familiar.
yep, every single song on the album still sounds as fresh as ever and the production is still tasty af. Definitely one for the "back in my day" collection to share with the kids and grandkids lol.
Linkin Park's first two albums are hands down responsible for introducing metal to larger audience during time when hip hop and rap completely taken over the radio stations.
Those first 2 Linkin Park albums were so massive when they came out. I remember being floored by the production, the songs, and the power of Chester's vocals. It was the last time I remember new rock music being a big exciting thing on radio. I never really dug much that they did from Minutes to Midnight onward, though there were some good songs, I just feel like the thing that I loved them for was gone, and that was that revolutionary production those first 2 albums had. It's like they devolved from their peak of musicianship. Most bands work up to albums like those.
thats how it was for me as well. im a big lamb of god fan and when Mark Morton came out with his solo album he had a song featuring Chester on vocals. Cross off is the track and in an interview with mark, he stated that Chester wanted to get back into the the harder rock that they came from. Cross off was one of the last, if not the last tracks that Chester recorded. If you havent heard it you should check it out, its a damn good track and Chester is phenomenal as usual. He passed before they could film the music video for it.
I think the album called Hunting Party felt just as good as the first 2 albums to me. I still love a lot of the songs off of it. Final Masquerade is one of my favorite songs off of that
I wasn't the biggest fan of them from the albums but someone got me the live in Texas dvd box as a Christmas present and it took me months to open and listen to it and when I finally did it blew me away they are Soo damn good live
live in texas was remixed and arranged in the studio. they don’t sound live like that at all. not bad but still not like on that live album. anyway i love live in texas too, some songs are really better performed especially by chester. papercut live in texas for example is my fav. the live screams are so on point.
The outro in this song has some of the craziest production I've ever heard. It's subtle enough to easily be missed but once you notice, dear lord do you notice.
I still remember when this album dropped and they overplayed the shit out of One Step Closer. It wasnt until I caught them live at a festival that I fell in love with Linkin Park.
I was fortunate enough to see LP perform live twice before Chester unfortunately left us. He was so incredibly talented. His voice was so good live. When listening to the album it is hard to tell if it's production or authentic. But he sang and screamed with so much power and precision. A very underrated vocalist and lyricist He is missed
Mr. Hahn is the DJ who scratching in the background. Linkin Park had got me outta a lot of dark times. Chester had the voice of an angel, and the scream of a demon! Could never be replaced! RIP.. LP fans all over the world miss you dearly!
Couldn’t remember which song this was based off of just the title but was hoping THIS was the song!! This was my favorite off of this album. I’m not even a huge fan of this band but this album was nearly perfect start to finish.
This is my favorite band of all time, they never stopped making good music even though they changed their sound up several times, and they have been named as top influences for so many of today's modern bands and their legacy will never fade
I remember when Chester died, I texted my friend who was a huge fan, had seen them live several times. He was doing a month long training exercise for the army and he told me the first txt he had gotten when he came back was my txt letting him know. He later told me that he had to pull over to the side of the road and just broke down crying from the news. We miss you Chester!
Man, LP has been my favorite band since they released this album 21 years ago, BUT STILL you point out interesting details like Chester’s long notes that I’ve never thought about before. This is exactly why I follow you. You have such a great attention to detail. Thank you for making videos!
*Please react to LINKIN PARK:* Pushing Me Away, Lying From You, Don’t Stay, and Easier to Run. There’s also the remix version called P5hing me away (Reanimation) which adds a different value to the song.
Although I lost interest in Linkin Park after their second album Meteora, I still rock out to them. I love the way they mixed electronic/DJ type sound into a rockin melody... Oh, and the deep bass hits. IMHO Meteora was their "Black" Album . It was good , just not like the first album.... I got to see Chester in a band called "Grey Daze" play at the grand opening of the first Guitar Center in Arizona. They were more Grunge/Pop/Punk back then. They were pretty good, but I'm glad Chester joined Linkin Park. Double up Please !!! JR & LH -Ho's Down!!
Seconded. I was introduced to LP through Meteora, so finding Hybrid Theory was like going from Master of Puppets to Kill Em All. Still remains my favourite album of theirs, with Hybrid a VERY close 2nd.
GREY DAZE put out a remaster of their first album with Chester’s original vocals last year. His vocals hold up well over time, and I still knew the words to the songs. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great review. These guys were special in their day. Still are. It's sad to hear his pain in the music knowing he took his own life due to that grief and sadness he so passionately sang about.
Saw LP supporting Deftones once. My buddy wasn't a fan of LP so he threw his chewing gum and it landed on Mike Shinoda's hair and it stayed there for the whole set
You qualify this with: "there's only so much time" and yes, man, there is - don't stress yourself! It's only fun for us if it's fun for you, so never push too hard.
Linkin Park sounded like abosuletly nothing else when they first came out. And to my ears, I hear an evolution of their lineage in modern bands like Spiritbox and VOLA, among others.
When you know the meaning behind this song, it hits so different, and you just cant unhear it. Terrible world out there... This song is probably a HUGE part of why Chester chose to do what he did 😢😭
The arpeggios in the background are a Mike Shinoda signature. He’s the main songwriter and producer, even though Don Gilmore got the producer credit on that album.
this is the best one yet - the most interesting breakdown - I have listened to LP for years and never knew any of that stuff about heavy kick and arpeggio (spelling)?! snare etc so cool
Such an amazing song. Words really can't properly describe the massive influence that LP has had on their genre, and on Rock music as a whole since the early 2000's. Chester Bennington.....may he Rest In Peace. Geebz, I am actually having rotator cuff repair surgery on Monday, November 15. I will let you know how it goes and what to expect.
Yeah those bass drops on the 1 are sick. I saw Norma Jean live during their Redeemer album cycle and the drummer had that trigger on his snare. You can feel those bass drops in your soul.
Am still here! ... of course I am ... this week Linkin park was jumping around everywhere in my life... I remember I see their 1st video /song on MTV ... papercuts ... edgy always edgy... some like it I love it, their style and sound was fresh back then and keeps felling fresh... am going to open a forbidden door for Tool army and tool fans but ... the departure of chester made LP now a days a cult band almost if not in the same level as tool they created and reimaginated their own sound influenced many others to follow or copy, but only they have that sound that special combo of creative people inside to make great Art not just music Art! from the sound to the visuals to the lyrical. aloha!
Probably one of the top albums rom my teens, soo cool to hear it again! I'm off to listen to back to back albums by Linkin park/papa roach/static x /mudvayne/ spineshank .. Thank you 😊
One of the first albums that I ever had. Always liked this riff, had to pick up an instrument just now and play it. One time I sampled the intro of this song for a project so that it just said "FORFEIT FORFEIT FORFEIT FORFEIT" over and over again haha
Finn from Punk Rock MBA!! I'm a big fan of his breakdowns and the like. As soon as I saw his 'Pop Punk with Breakdowns' shirt, I knew I had to have it.
This is in my top 5 LP songs despite knowing what the song is about and involves Chester's incredibly awful experience when he was a child. I find the beat mesmerising and the lyrics are deep as always. Not easy to list them in order because i like most of LP songs.
Loved Linkin Park from my first listen of One Step Closer. I got my then-boyfriend the Hybrid Theory CD for our first Valentine's Day together. Saw them live at a festival that summer. I am so sad that I didn't get to see them further along in their career before Chester died. There is nobody like him.
I love your videos, man. You take the music I grew up on and it forces me to hear it in a new way that is different than what I’m used to hearing, and I love it. You peel back the layers of the Onion, so to speak, and I appreciate the music more. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I'm glad you got that '' signature sound '', I agree. I remember listing to meteora for the first time. I was about 10 years old. After the intro came '' don't stay '' I remember exactly how I felt and was blown away ...
I have a feeling it inspired a part of Bloodywood's Aaj too: ua-cam.com/video/kgvH6tX4Ej0/v-deo.html - almost the same - the rest of Aaj has its own merits though and I love that track so much. The whole band exudes the kind of metal we appreciated in Linkin Park and others from the era, but with Indian instrumentation on top providing something fresh for the our current ears to feel something unique yet familiar.
I'm glad you caught the 808 sample over the kick on the one. Alot of bands add this in post to start a breakdown riff to just make it explode. Another great review!
This is awesome to watch, I hope one day you check out “waiting for the end” one of their best songs and I’m sure you would be able to provide some really good insight into it.
I can't believe i still know every second of this song. This whole album, really.
Grew up with this album and sill love it.
Same, i blasted this album like there was no tommorrow back then.
I was thinking the same thing. I haven't listened to this album in at least 15 years, didn't really listen to the albums that followed, but this is immediately familiar.
It has definitely been burned into my personal memory records...
This album was both an instant hit and a slow burner, it still stands strong and is an absolute classic
yep, every single song on the album still sounds as fresh as ever and the production is still tasty af. Definitely one for the "back in my day" collection to share with the kids and grandkids lol.
Linkin Park's first two albums are hands down responsible for introducing metal to larger audience during time when hip hop and rap completely taken over the radio stations.

Agree fully
A Thousand Suns is a sleeper album.
@@Chad-tf5vc Wow, it's too bad they didn't do a whole album. I always knew Chester was capable of harder music, but hearing it is a treat.
I think the album called Hunting Party felt just as good as the first 2 albums to me. I still love a lot of the songs off of it. Final Masquerade is one of my favorite songs off of that
Probably my favorite Linkin Park song. The first 2 albums are the best.
The live in Texas concert on here i think it sounds even better.
100%
Totally agree
I wasn't the biggest fan of them from the albums but someone got me the live in Texas dvd box as a Christmas present and it took me months to open and listen to it and when I finally did it blew me away they are Soo damn good live

@@yyxx4174 Were you there? Because I was and it was fucking unbelievable
This is one of the greatest albums of it's generation.
Front to back, nothing but flawless, memorable music.
The outro in this song has some of the craziest production I've ever heard. It's subtle enough to easily be missed but once you notice, dear lord do you notice.
We definitely need more LINKIN PARK!
I still remember when this album dropped and they overplayed the shit out of One Step Closer. It wasnt until I caught them live at a festival that I fell in love with Linkin Park.
EVERYTHING YOU SAY TO MAAYYYYY
Same here. I always tell everyone that they were just as amazing in concert as on their albums. Definitely NOT just a studio band
MORE LINKIN PARK!!
I can't tell you how influential this album was for me and every other highschooler when the album dropped. It was like nothing we heard before.
I was fortunate enough to see LP perform live twice before Chester unfortunately left us.
He was so incredibly talented. His voice was so good live.
When listening to the album it is hard to tell if it's production or authentic.
But he sang and screamed with so much power and precision.
A very underrated vocalist and lyricist
He is missed
Mr. Hahn is the DJ who scratching in the background. Linkin Park had got me outta a lot of dark times. Chester had the voice of an angel, and the scream of a demon! Could never be replaced! RIP.. LP fans all over the world miss you dearly!
To this day, I still can’t unhear that hammer together with the snare in the chorus
Couldn’t remember which song this was based off of just the title but was hoping THIS was the song!! This was my favorite off of this album. I’m not even a huge fan of this band but this album was nearly perfect start to finish.
Almost 20 years old and this song still kicks ass
Super stoked you grabbed something from Hybrid Theory first
Oh I've never clicked on a video so FAST! LET'S GO!!
I love this album. One of my favorite of all time. So creative and inspirational
"Back in the chug of things" nice lol
This is my favorite band of all time, they never stopped making good music even though they changed their sound up several times, and they have been named as top influences for so many of today's modern bands and their legacy will never fade

My god... 21 years. I can't believe it. But great point... songs we've heard hundreds of times find new life thanks to Geebz. He's the best!
*Please react to LINKIN PARK:* Pushing Me Away, Lying From You, Don’t Stay, and Easier to Run. There’s also the remix version called P5hing me away (Reanimation) which adds a different value to the song.
Every time you stop I hear the next part in my head.
Fucking awesome album. RIP Chester and for the rest of the guys a bright future :)
A place for my head , pushing me away , with you, lying from you

Too bad you lost Interest. Their Music is pure art, no matter which Genre it is. Especiall The hunting party is in my top 3
Lost interest after meteora? Lmao tf wrong with you
First Album I could just let run through , I loved every single song back then. And still know every line:)
Punk Rock MBA! One of my favorite channels, shouting out one of my favorite channels 🤘❤
I love that he smiles at the end when they start showing off. That's my favorite part of the whole song.
Great review. These guys were special in their day. Still are. It's sad to hear his pain in the music knowing he took his own life due to that grief and sadness he so passionately sang about.
This was one of the best ‘first album’ releases I’ve ever heard from a new band. So polished and hit after hit, all around amazing sound throughout.
One of the best albums of all time
Iconic album.
Every song on this album has reply value. Meteora was no sophomore slump, in facts it was amazing too.
This whole album was and all still is amazing. Nostalgic for me, but also still feels current even after all these years!
That's the 'Dies irae' interval - day of wrath 💀
You and finn are my favorites guys to watch on my lunch breaks
Saw LP supporting Deftones once. My buddy wasn't a fan of LP so he threw his chewing gum and it landed on Mike Shinoda's hair and it stayed there for the whole set
😹😭
I was just thinking today of you reacting to Linkin Park! Thanks for all of these!
love your analysis and reaction. could you do one of Linkin Park - By Myself? Its really outstanding production aswell!
You qualify this with: "there's only so much time" and yes, man, there is - don't stress yourself! It's only fun for us if it's fun for you, so never push too hard.
I cannot believe this song is 21 years old!
I see a lot of people quit LP after Meteora, but really you all miss out their 2 best albums - A Thousand Suns and The Hunting Party
I’m a huge A thousand suns fan!
Finn is great. Youre great. Awwwright!
Greatest group of artists of all time.
Linkin Park sounded like abosuletly nothing else when they first came out. And to my ears, I hear an evolution of their lineage in modern bands like Spiritbox and VOLA, among others.

I remember playing the hell out of this song and One Step Closer while angrily building Lego in my bedroom, irreplaceable memories
I definitely think at the time this band really tore it up.
The DJ, Mr. Hahn, also does lots of synth effects and pads along his scratching. While mike plays keys sometimes.
Mr han doesn't get nearly enough credit for the amazing musician he is
“Pushing me away” is my absolute favorite song on this album and my favorite LP song. You should check that one out!!!!
Ithink this is Linkin Park’s best song by a very, very wide margin
Would love to see more LP reactions. Great reaction you relaly know your stuff
Such an amazing song. Words really can't properly describe the massive influence that LP has had on their genre, and on Rock music as a whole since the early 2000's.
Chester Bennington.....may he Rest In Peace.

That would be slipknot you are referring to with the beer kegs!! They are (slipknot) the best band to see live if you ever get the chance !!
6:57 I thought I was only imagining an 808 on the first downbeats!

you listen to music like i do and we notice the same things. you should react to their song by myself it’s really interesting
Probably one of the top albums rom my teens, soo cool to hear it again! I'm off to listen to back to back albums by Linkin park/papa roach/static x /mudvayne/ spineshank ..
Thank you 😊
"Beetle fart to dog whistle" LMFAO That's amazing!
my favorite lp song
Please do something from A Thousand Suns like The Catalyst or When They Come For Me, their best stuff imo
I remember when this album came like a raging storm during the MTV days. I still think this is their best album.
Great song. Waiting for the End is a must listen as well. Rock on Geebz!
One of the first albums that I ever had. Always liked this riff, had to pick up an instrument just now and play it. One time I sampled the intro of this song for a project so that it just said "FORFEIT FORFEIT FORFEIT FORFEIT" over and over again haha

This whole album was my...post high school...first real job...first ex wife...days. Ah, memories.
Man are you stalking my spotify? You literally react to all the artists i'm listening to! :D
Please react to Machine Head! Songs:
“Davidian”
“Halo”
“Imperium”
Thank you!🤘🏻
Stick to the studio versions. I know the video of "Halo" cuts out a decent amount of the guitar solo, which is just heresy.
First 2 I Iinkin park albums are nearly perfect.
I love your videos, man. You take the music I grew up on and it forces me to hear it in a new way that is different than what I’m used to hearing, and I love it. You peel back the layers of the Onion, so to speak, and I appreciate the music more. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hell YEAH you mentioned the homie Finn
Actually it would be interesting if you could listen some of their newer stuff, maybe something from a thousand suns.
you, my friend, are a good man
Oh yeah - I also watch Finn's Punk Rock MBA, he's fantastic and love his content as well.
I also picked up on the whole beer-keg like sound on this and By Myself
I'm glad you got that '' signature sound '', I agree. I remember listing to meteora for the first time. I was about 10 years old. After the intro came '' don't stay '' I remember exactly how I felt and was blown away ...

When you're back to looking at new bands, please make sure you check out Sunbather by Deafheaven!
Heard this song a million times. A fan of the band and never heard that kick part you are talking about. Keep up the great content
Helmet, HUM, Failure, Swervedriver are other great bands to react to. Polvo, Seam, Quicksand, Tortoise, Don Caballero
Dude..you could really do a class. Ive learned so much about music theory
I'm glad you caught the 808 sample over the kick on the one. Alot of bands add this in post to start a breakdown riff to just make it explode. Another great review!
Geebz, you need to do a back-to-back comparison with the reanimation version!
Here!!
Such a classic album
Let the countdown continue! Hoping Haken, BTBAM, and Protest the Hero made your list 🤞🏻
You should do When They Come For Me
This song is a banger and its "Live in Texas" version is even better
This is awesome to watch, I hope one day you check out “waiting for the end” one of their best songs and I’m sure you would be able to provide some really good insight into it.
good suggestion!
Thanks!
Happy to see you doing another LP song!
Hybrid Theory is the album to my youth. It will always have a huge place in my heart. Thank you Geebz!
Yea that metallic hit sound comes from their DJ its digital.
Chester B. Forever.
