The Mets’ rotation is a huge problem. Kratz has this mostly right. They’ve gotten results lately, but they walk way too many guys, miss too few bats, and don’t pitch deep into games. Consequently, the already shorthanded bullpen-which also issues too many walks, but at least misses bats-is hugely overworked. Yes, the offense is hot, but how long can they realistically keep this up, and cover for the team’s pitching issues? They can’t assume that Senga will return soon enough or be effective enough to make a difference, and regardless, he’ll need time to ramp up his innings. They have Christian Scott in AAA, but they have to be careful about _his_ innings. After this upcoming Astros series, their schedule is fairly easy until July 22, except they play 17 straight right into the ASB. If the Mets’ FO genuinely believes they have a shot to not merely make the postseason, but to actually make noise in October, they could make a splash right now and trade for a top-tier SP like Jack Flaherty, as crazy as that would’ve sounded a few weeks ago. (They could go for someone like Crochet with more control, but the cost might be crazy, and his innings are also a concern.) If they make a move like that now, that buys them a few weeks to see how things play out. If they fall apart, they can flip him again at the deadline, and likely recoup a lot of the prospect capital they’d have to give up to acquire him, and sell some other pieces. If things go well, they could eventually have a top four of Flaherty/Senga/Severino/Scott down the stretch, which is much more formidable than their current top four of Severino/Quintana/Manaea/Megill. Moving Megill and Peterson to the bullpen adds sorely-needed length and depth back there, too. They’d lose some prospects, but I think some of them, like maybe Acuña and Tidwell, might be overvalued. (Jim Bowden of _The Athletic_ recently proposed trading Kevin Parada for Flaherty, but Parada is veering dangerously close toward non-prospect status, and I can’t imagine the Tigers would agree to such a deal. If they would, Stearns should accept yesterday.)

Top tier analysis here. I do think the offense is mostly sustainable (maybe not 10.5 r/gm, though). However, you are dead on about the pitching.
