    You can just ignore overtime issues and when asked, say something like "hey guys. We need to stay over time" and reply with "wow that's crazy, anyway. Hope it works great, catch you guys tomorrow. I gotta go do a thing". They won't fire you for being sigma.
    They'll be try to fire you but if you're freelance, doesn't matter. If you're ab official employee. It's an unlawful firing and you can always falsely log your overtime and claim they refused to pay.
    You're not REQUIRED to work overtime but they are required to pay for it.
    And always remember. Overtime doesn't mean working overtime. It means being AVAILABLE past the clock.
    So even if you're just sitting there waiting, that's overtime, bby.
    If the boss sends you emails afterhours, welcome to overtime.
    If they ask you to come in early and then you have to wait 30 minutes until the boss comes in so you can clock in. That's overtime, and it's a full hour minimum.
    Overtime is either a good thing where the boss appreciates the extra effort you put and pays you for it oooor... Overtime is a nightmare for them because everything you do suddenly becomes overtime and they better start paying up.
    It's how a freelancer charges for overtime, no reason a regular employee can't.
    I've pissed off many people with all the extra money they see but as long as you're good at your craft, they won't do shit.
    When they actually fire you, they were going to fire you anyway and overtime was never an issue.
    Remember there's always a guy above you getting payed massively more than you for doing massively less, so no, the budget is never actually compromised by overtime, only bad planning from management.

    Thank you for the valuable insights, have you been asked before if you prefer to work at home or at studio? 😎

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  3 роки тому

      Yeah if they ask, it usually means they allow both options, if they don't ask, then that's something you can bring up with them and see what their policy is. Either way, it wouldn't hurt your chances to ask :)

    thanks for your precious share. After the interview, do they ask you to do an animation test?

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed it! Some studios do if they're interested. If you do well on the test you're pretty much guaranteed the job.

    I have a question i have been filling up for 3d modelling interviews. It's standard first Hr calls then they talk about thier company expectations and my experience with software and modelling. Then they give me something to work on for weekend and ask me to give everything rendered previews, tectured materials, textured files and ecported fbx with texture and including soyrce file. Is that normal test or are they just using me to get real work for free? Even though i know it didn't lookk good, still i wasted 4 days dling those.

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  2 роки тому

      That's a tricky one!
      Tests are normal, specially when you're a junior, or if you're entering a new part of the industry, or increasing in seniority.
      Just recently I did a week long animation test for a Senior position at a studio. I knew not to be worried about my work being just "Free animation" for the company, because the rig they gave me was a public & free rig. They also didn't ask me for the source files.
      I'm not sure if Modeling is different, perhaps they requested the source files to check the typology. But it's something you'd have to be careful with for sure.

    If your GF is camera shy put on a covid mask then edit the voice. But ppl also probably want to see her reaction towards each question.
    Also question for you do you use Blender on win10/11 at home? Most likely yes I'm just curious because I saw a video on youtube Blender is so fast in Linux vs windows.
    I only use Linux at work using Proprietary software. Also not sure fir my new pc amd build up I should use win11. Do you know if that Netflix Blender movie use Linux or windows for...I forgot that movie you mentioned.
    In the end guess it doesn't matter Linux supposed to be more secure no forced updates and spying like win10 etc...

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  3 роки тому +1

      Haha that's something I can bring up with her.
      As for operating system, I use windows 10 at home and at work. Same with Maya and the Three (the Blender movie), we used windows 10 during that production as well. Personally I've never used Linux, so I can't give you an informed opinion.

    Can I ask, if you had a red flag moment. Can you just end the interview? I haven’t gotten to that stage yet but I understand that if they start laughing at you, but even in less rude circumstances we’re you may not want to work at that company. How would you end that interview. Would it be wrong to just say something in a professional way like “ I think we’ve got all the information we need here, thank you goodbye” or just grin and bare it till the end… I feel like I’m my position right now, I may be too afraid of tainting my name and just take the job T.T

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  2 роки тому +2

      Definitely don't taint your name. I'd say bare it till it's done at the very least and If you get an offer, you can decline it how ever you'd like. The person interviewing you could have connections, or might even get hire at another studio where you want to work.
      I did actually have a situation where the interviewer spent the entire interview trying to belittle me and my work, bellowing out into laughter and banging the table when I told him my salary expectations. I just stayed calm (as hard as it was), and tried explain how other companies pay an artist based on their skill level, and that I wasn't aware they do things differently there.

      @@BrianKouhi ooh that's so horrible. I'm glad you held your own and didn't let them take advantage of you. research is a powerful tool so we must know our own worth and the standard rates too. and yes the interview is still in a way to make a good first impression with everyone involved.
      Thank you for sharing this story. I've never thought people could act this way but I understand that there are all types in every industry.
      I hope that that company have learned this behaviours not going to aid them but harm them in the end :
