About a month ago I applied for a job at Target. I got an e-mail from them about a day or two later. I was SO excited... until I read it and saw the link for this Hirevue bullshit. I had 48 hours to submit it. I just said fuck it, gave up and didn't record anything. I hated having to pass up the opportunity, but I just can't record myself answering irrelevant questions. I prefer to be interviewed in person, face to face.
The mistake is to even take this interview. We must just decline them. This is dystopian as fuck. If you don't participate, companies will stop doing this. We must not agree to be treated like this, but we must do it together.
Very good video mate, thanks for sharing, I thought I had it covered but only had half of the things you mentioned haha. Getting your distance right is important, you covered that by saying to do the test question which I delft will do - you do t want your head filling the whole screen and looking up your nose like it does when I use my iPad.
This is super helpful! I received an invite to do a hirevue interview but have never done it before. Also when I tried it via the link given on my phone the “practice questions” never even came up so I couldn’t even do them and then got all flustered and closed it out to try later. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the app
HireVue video interviews isn’t an effective way of interviewing in my opinion. It’s basically an audition tape that doesn’t consider your resume or application in real time.

Just had one of these to do for the first time, and I think I bombed it. :( I was SO nervous! Idk what it is, but recording myself responding to questions from a computer just feels sooo unnatural. I feel like I did really badly, and it's a shame too because it was for a position at a company that I REALLY wanted to work at. I kind of wish I had just had a Zoom interview, or even an in-person interview instead! It is not an interview if the other side is not a human, live, talking to you. Everyone should ignore company with these kinds of interview request. They are quite disrepectful IMO.
Just did an interview with this. I don’t like it at all. I did my best but I would rather meet face to face. Not only that I researched their algorithm and it’s ridiculous in my opinion. The thing to do is refuse the video interview, go apply for a company with a human face. Do you really want to work for a company that treats people so impersonally anyway? Eventually employers will get the message, "you want good staff, start by treating them as humans".
It's not about treating people impersonally in my opinion. It's about speeding the hiring process (which can take a looooong time done manually) and hire the right people more easily and reduce risk on both ends. What will you do when other companies catch up on the benefits of video interviews and when it become the norm?
Dylan Cook not always about respect. Have you thought about proximity too? Cost of flight rates and transportation?? Sometimes people are in different continents and apply for jobs in others. You want them to go to a different continent just for an interview? Why do y’all glamorize backwardness?? How old are you?
@@_elizabethlivingWhy dose it need to be faceless? I'm happy to make a Skype style call across the world for work... and have. But these faceless interviews are pointlessly impersonal and only work well for a certain type of person. Also, its not 'glamours' or 'backward' to want a 2 way conversation when working out if a job is worth the 4 hour technical test, just common sense.
@Robin Star This comment reeks of desperation to be heard when you have nothing to say. Again I'll reiterate, I have no issue with video interviews. I do have a problem with one-way interviews. Get over it.
I hate these video interviews so much. No one is perfect when being recorded. So little mistakes being the deciding factor whether you get an income or not is the absolute worst. Often times you aren't going to get unlimited retries so if you happen to sneeze or stumble your words a little or even have to think for a moment you're screwed. And trying to please the bot before an actual person is a whole other issue. These video interviews can also lead to discrimination based on age, gender, race or even disabilities.
ive only ever had one job in my life being retail meaning ive only ever had 1 interview and it was sooo long ago back when I was a juniour and I feel very anxious about interviews and even something as little as speaking on the phone even though im use to dealing with customers in a store, good video though

The biggest mistake is agreeing to do one. There are plenty of companies that don’t use this technique. I’ll happily end the process with that company uses hirevue and work for one that doesn’t.
Pro tip: If you do not want to work for a company that's a dystopian hellhole, then just do not accept an automated one-way interview. If they do not respect you with their presence, then neither should you.
Careful and not use the "practice site" since it jumps to real interview with 7 Questions :( ... you should use youre phone own camera offline ... and when 100% ready use the website.
Modern day application processes just treat us as machines. No attempt to see us as people. Just do a test, answer a question to a screen and you might have a chance to go through some more tests where we judge you and provide minimal feedback. All just to be a cog in the machine. It is what it is I guess.
This way of interviewing is so stupid!! There’s no way of getting to know someone through not speaking to them personally, it just feels fake and too rehearsed, I don’t feel companies should use this as a form of interviewing as I don’t feel it is fair on the candidates!

I bet you'll rock it! Best of luck! 💪🤞
Sameee
The mistake is to even take this interview. We must just decline them. This is dystopian as fuck. If you don't participate, companies will stop doing this. We must not agree to be treated like this, but we must do it together.
Man I stay thinking this but then remember that I’m desperate and need the job
good luck getting everyone else to join with you
🤣🤣
@@nngc22 it’s the laughing for me. You must be a yes man or something. This comment isn’t funny. It’s kinda deep
Thank you 🙏 I watched your videos through out my recruitment journey. And I got the job 🎉
Fortunately, many US employers are gradually switching to traditional interview methods. Very few will continue using this hirevue bs
Thank you for the tips. I aced my interview with a second company after bombing my first Hirevue interview. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad to hear that @ech83!! 😁
This is great! You put so much more effort into this than pretty much every other youtube tutorial, and it shows.
One can only wonder what they do with your recorded interviews afterwards...
The tech check is SO essential. Great tips in this video!
So true! Even more now that everyone is on the internet lol! Thanks Jennifer!
Thank you so much for this video! Haha that awkward ending to close a Q, fumbling for the buttons was sooo funny! Entertaining and insightful video! :)
The funny part is the company I’m interviewing for doesn’t have telework options but requires me to do a virtual interview. The audacity…
I didn't think my solo interview went well but I received an invite for another interview with people.
I prefer interviews that are more like conversations and don't make you feel so uncomfortable. :(
I guess my anxiety got the best of me today. :(
Did you get the job?
@@ryansalinas4665 I DID actually LOL!!! 😅😂🤣 I must have done better than I thought!
I got the job, have been working there for over a month now, and I LOVE it! 😁
@@DestinyC1020 Congrats! 😊
@@DestinyC1020 See everything else you said I 1000% relate to. I’ve never gotten an offer after I’ve felt like I bombed it.. which was pretty much most of the time… There should be a writing option for people with really bad anxiety.. It’s gets in the way of so much whether we prepare for our interviews or not.. 😭 It’s so tiring and mentally exhausting..
I still like in-person or even Zoom Interview better, heck, call is good too. This is too bad, I practiced 10 times for one question and still sounded weird and looked weird. Then I realise it lacks human interaction, I want to talk to other party, experience the conversation flowing, not this…
It is not an interview if the other side is not a human, live, talking to you. Everyone should ignore company with these kinds of interview request. They are quite disrepectful IMO.
Just did an interview with this. I don’t like it at all. I did my best but I would rather meet face to face. Not only that I researched their algorithm and it’s ridiculous in my opinion. Technology is going to define if you’re a fit for a job based off the way u look and certain words u use? Crazy honestly.
OldSchoolHead1990 yeah I didn’t like it either. I felt stupid for some reason. I don’t like being on video and I felt like an idiot talking to myself.
@@d.n.3652 agree. Everybody not comfortable being in front of a camera. I wasn’t. It takes time to get used to that. You’re not going to become a pro off a few takes. I got another offer to do another video interview but I am going to pass. It’s not worth my time. I feel like the way their program is set up its really judgmental. The way you move your eyes or anything can make you miss out on the job. No thanks!
OldSchoolHead1990 it was a job at target. Honestly I just gave it a shot
@@d.n.3652That’s crazy cause mine was at target too. Lol! I got denied though. I applied for multiple positions and they sent another link to do another video interview. Don’t think I will do it though. What a coincidence.
OldSchoolHead1990 I’m much more better at in person interviews. I’m not good at talking on video because I’m basically talking to myself. Feels like I’m auditioning for a role
This is pretty helpful for other virtual interviews such as in MS Teams and Zoom
All business is show business, makes me wish I did drama and media back in high school
Ok. I am going to do my first video interview in a while. So nervous, but im going to use the tips.
Woha! I did things right without seeing this video. I've submitted my 2 min video application, and I'm waiting for Rev to email me back.
Thanks for the great tips bro- helped me to advance into the recruitment process
I need to do HireVue Assessment by tomorrow, just what I need!
Thank you Mahdi! just got my first one. Great stuff thanks!
Dont forget to smile. People hire people they like and a smile helps
I have a interview today my third with the company wish me luck 🤞
Good luck bro!! Let us know how you did!
I wish people got straight to the point in these kinds of tutorial videos
Many thanks for the advice. My interview was successful. 😎
Thank you for your guidance Brother... Finally got the Job... 🥳❤️🥳
threw my cats in a closet 2 rooms away. they were mad af but my nerves disappeared immediately. aced my interview too. sorry babies
Just did a Hirevue interview. I kept running out of time with my answers. FML!!
Will be doing my interview with vodadafone today, thanks for the tips
Good luck bro!! Let us know how you did!
ive only ever had one job in my life being retail meaning ive only ever had 1 interview and it was sooo long ago back when I was a juniour and I feel very anxious about interviews and even something as little as speaking on the phone even though im use to dealing with customers in a store, good video though
I did my HireVue through safari and ended up not getting practice questions beforehand ): I bombed the first two questions of my actual interview (I think) and began to cry my heart out 😔
What were the questions?
@@calvettmusic1509 I applied to Vans at the times so the first two questions were centered around their brand and how they ran their business
@@JsMama0702 Did they get back to you?
@@electric_sand They did! I actually got hired (: after that whole fiasco, I made a new work email and applied to the same position with that one. Since I already had a gist of what the process was like, I was a lot more prepared!
@@JsMama0702 Wow, I'm happy for you...that was a really smart thing to do, congratulations.
I can't wait to also say the words - "I actually got hired" haha
I have incoming interview tommorow, wish me luck. Thank you for that tips.
Good luck @Raymart!! 😁
@@independentconsultant I've done their initial and final video interview and I'm hoping to get hired. I will accept what will be the result is. Thank you! am from Philippines 😇
@@raymartconcepcion8817 I hope too bro!! ;)
The biggest mistake is agreeing to do one. There are plenty of companies that don’t use this technique. I’ll happily end the process with that company uses hirevue and work for one that doesn’t.
good advice, the topic of preparing an answer also needs to be trained.
It's great.....if you like interacting with yourself. It's very uncomfortable and dehumanizing.
Pro tip: If you do not want to work for a company that's a dystopian hellhole, then just do not accept an automated one-way interview. If they do not respect you with their presence, then neither should you.
Thank you great tips appreciated it’ can be so overwhelming.
My interview due tomorrow and its Online due to COVID-19
The word "rightfully" should be the word "correctly" in this video. Seems like a good video, just constructive criticism. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for these points. It was helpful!
Careful and not use the "practice site" since it jumps to real interview with 7 Questions :( ... you should use youre phone own camera offline ... and when 100% ready use the website.
I'm 16, & my first job interview ever will be on video. Wish me luck please. I'm nervous🥺
All the very best. Please watch this also ua-cam.com/video/GmDGDpUZ1DE/v-deo.html
Brother how was your interview
Apologize I'm remembering you after 3Years
Hi!Thank you for these videos, they have helped a lot.Question, by any chance do you know if recruiters can watch all our retries for each question?
Modern day application processes just treat us as machines. No attempt to see us as people. Just do a test, answer a question to a screen and you might have a chance to go through some more tests where we judge you and provide minimal feedback. All just to be a cog in the machine. It is what it is I guess.
This way of interviewing is so stupid!! There’s no way of getting to know someone through not speaking to them personally, it just feels fake and too rehearsed, I don’t feel companies should use this as a form of interviewing as I don’t feel it is fair on the candidates!
Thank you especially for the last one ;)
You're welcome @James !! 😁
all my answers ended in ''ummmm that's it " lmao i hope that i get accepted *facepalm*
I didn t get accepted BTW :D :D

Hey Everyone, my interview is in a couple of days and I want to know the 5 interview questions that everyone had , please guys HELP !!
All the very best. I have done series of videos on dis. Please watch this ua-cam.com/video/GmDGDpUZ1DE/v-deo.html
Ask about the job position you are applying for maybe company culture. This is one of the toughest things for me to come up with at the end of an interview. For the past 2 days I've been watching this young lady her channel is called Self Made Millenial great channel with alot of helpful tips. Hope this helps have a great weekend.
Do you always have to smile while doing these interviews? I don't understand why if it's not a live meeting
This was super helpful 😄 I have a Zoom interview on Thursday. Thank you!
I have an interview on Monday and I don't even know if I have a microphone, lol, I haven't webcammed in a decade
You can still make it without one! Just test your audio beforehand to see if we can hear you properly!
Seeing this before my hirevue interview😂
Omg, where have you been all my life? LOL! Great video, thank you!
Thanks Sandra! Glad you liked the video :)
I've recently gotten to this part in applying with Nike. Seems like such a half assed way of conducting an "interview" . Genuinely made me not interested.
