How to tie Terry Bromwell's March Brown Dry Fly

  • An unashamed steal from the fly box of Terry Bromwell. A phenomenal anglers whose achievements speak for themselves. Not only a great angler but a more than decent fly tier, I hope I have done his pattern justice. Its relatively easy tie, the only caution I would offer is it is essential to get the proportions correct.
I would have no hesitation to tie this on when the March browns start coming down the river.

Great looking March Brown emerger pattern. Love the CDC , FOAM, CDL tail combination! It's going to be the first fly I fish this spring! Should be good tied as a BWO for fall fishing in Michigan too! ;) Thanks for sharing!🙏🙏😎😎😎

The dark foam as a shellback was a touch of genius. More durable than pheasant tail fibres and with the bonus extra buoyancy

Love the running commentaries bud. You make the wee tutorials so much more enjoyable.
And a whip finish as well...doesn't get better than this.

Nice fly pattern, I'll give it a try on the stillwater in spring. You're really getting the hang of that whip finisher! Thanks for sharing. :)

Lindsay, as an expat scot, I don't know if I watch your channel for the fly tying, which bybtgevwaybinthink is grand, or just to hear your accent!

Great fly. Definitely tie up a few. Who knows I may get to use them next year.Haha!
Funny enough I am tying off with a half hitch and then practising using my fingers for the whip finish. No easy.

I have spent quite a lot of time just tying lately and the whip finish tool is really coming together. Still not convinced it's any better than what I was doing before. Going to stick with it though.

Hey Lindsay, here is a whip finish tool you might like. You can get it at www.castersonlineflyshop.com/daniel-wilmers-whip-finisher/. There are some videos on how to use it. It’s a touch bit different but I think easier to use. Let me know what you think.

And here I thought I had tried them all....lol. Looks nice Gary but I am going to stick with what I have. Thanks for sharing though it may suit some other tiers.

BINGO! One whip finish! You’re getting there. Thanks for another one dude.
ps..... as I mentioned in a previous comment, when the head shape and size is somewhat important, with the finishing tool, you can get the head just where you want/need it to be. Stick with it dude. You’ll be glad you did 😊.

    Well done Mr whipfinish!!
    Nice pattern Lindsay.
Check out the Dahle cutcat to cut your foam strips, I stole my wife's and it's really neat and tidy, I can go down to 2mm width without any problem.
    Stay safe and sane!!
