Great review of a great sleeper guitar! The Affinity JM is going to be a closet classic. I picked one of these at a pawn shop for $150 with Gator softcase. After a proper setup this is now my favorite. My pickups have screw pole slugs. The pickup coil dimensions are P90 not the slimmer classic Jazzmaster profile. Sound more like P90s also. I LOVE P90s! My fret-board is very dark, almost like ebony. The only complaint is the cheap jack which i quickly replaced with a Switchcraft. It is a very inspiring guitar to just relax let the music flow.
Get some, Kyle! The Cure, Dinosaur Jr, and Elvis Costello belong to a Jazzmaster review. Thanks for taking off the pickup cover so that I didn’t have to. It looks like an actual Jazzmaster pickup. Great review and good luck with your channel!
Thanks! It was fun playing some different stuff. I’m glad someone knew what I was playing haha! Yeah as far as I can tell they are JM pickups but I heard some folks wondering about that too.
@@Iggytommy I agree - the real jazzmaster have slug pole magnets -these have ceramic bars underneath (similar to P-90 )but these have a different size coil than both P-90s and jazzmasters -whatever they are I'm gonna keep them - I like them- I intended to mod this with jazzmaster pickups - but I think I'will keep this stock - well done Squier
A big thumbs up for taking off that pickup cover bud! No other reviewer that I've seen has done that, and one of them even implied that it was probably a Strat pickup under there without bothering to check! Clearly, that is NOT a Strat pup!
Agree! There have been several people talking about them but no one opened it up. I still don’t know if they are true JM pickups but I dig them. Literally playing it right now haha. Thanks!
Skunkstripe is just because the neck is a one piece with the trussrod inserted from the back. My CS '54 strat has it too. Looks like the pickups can be magnet swapped easily and oddly they have the correct coil shape for a JM. You could get some alnico bar magnets from ebay and slap them on with some hot glue.

Another great review, these past me by but look like an awesome guitar for the money - thanks for playing A Forest and did I notice some Elvis Costello in there ?
Really nice review. WELL DONE!! I just got mine last week and agree this is a great value and a great guitar. The fit and finish, fretwork, all top-notch. The output jack is without a doubt, the loosest I have ever encountered on any guitar I have ever owned. Wondering why you did not bend the "thing a ma jig" when you had the pickguard off? The laurel fretboard is also far superior to the other Squiers I have, notably a 2019 Classic Vibe Jaguar. Mine looks and feels very close to rosewood. I prefer this to my Vintage Modified Jazzmaster which I have since sold. The color is very elusive depending on the light. It can be a warm burgundy, and then sort of a dull grey? I believe I also will keep this guitar for a long time, but you never know. Thanks again for taking the time to share your new guitar with all of us. Wondering what the next "one more guitar" will be?????
Haha why didn’t I think to do that!? Such an easy fix and I didn’t even think about it. Well I’ll take care of next time I change strings, too funny. Yeah the color does flip from bright to almost a dull copper depending on the light, I want to take it to a jam to see how it shows up under stage lights. I’ve got a couple more guitars lined up then I’m excited to see what gets announced in January.
My Squier Affinity Jazzmaster made lots of popping sounds when I touched the pick guard. A few swipes with a fabric dryer sheet across the pick guard settled that right down. I really like this guitar. I‘m selling a guitar to pay for my next one; I’m selling a Fender and keeping this Squier Affinity Jazzmaster.
they wanted to make the pickups look like real jm pickups- those have the pole pieces as the magnets, these affinities use bar magnets around the coils so they're actually closer to a p90.
You get the extra fret on a mustang why not on this?

Great video and smooth playing. I liked the surf song. I’m wondering though, It seems like the strings are placed more to the high E side of the neck?. It looks a bit strange to me, or maybe it’s the camera angle. You can see it in the beginning around one minute in. Probably an illusion. Keep up the good work man.
I think it’s the background to the spec notes that’s making it look like that. I definitely see it in the video now, double checked the guitar and it looks normal haha. That’s pretty funny! Cheers!
Im really tempted to get one of theese, the only concern is i dont have any ability to play it before I order it. I was just wondering how thick the neck is? I dont want a big neck
I have 2 Epiphone acoustics and am looking to buy my first electric guitar. I've been looking for one very versatile guitar. I was kind of leaning toward the Squier Affinity Telecasters, but I'm kind of digging these Jazzmaster. I like the labeled master volume and tone knob which are unlabelled on the standard Affinity Telecaster. I also like the single coils on this guitar over the humbuckers on the Affinity Deluxe Telecaster. And I like that this has a tremelo bar too. Seems like a great guitar for some classic rock, rockabilly, country, and surf music. I think I found the guitar for me.
Good, helpful review. Thanks for posting it. Two comments: 1) when you showed the closeups of the strings and fretboard, that high E string sure looked very close to the edge of the fretboard, in fact it almost looked like it was off of the fretboard, especially at the upper frets. 2) this guitar sounds very Stratocaster-like to me. I wonder if it's the same pickups.
I'm pleased you took the trouble to remove the pickup cover to peek inside... the wiring looks flatter and wider than a strat single coil. There's a guy on youtube telling these pickups were in fact like strat pickups in disguise.... they apparently tell a different story. They seem to sound meatier than strat pickups... I'll try my luck and buy one of these... the only thing is : how consistent are they?... i've had some bad surprises with loads of these cheap guitars and i'm afraid to order one now.... hope this time Squier will prove me wrong.
Yeah I’ve seen people discussing if they are actually jazzmaster pickups, more like P90s, or something else. Either way, I like the way they sound lol. I’ve had a few folks say they picked one up and liked it. I have tried 4 of the new affinities now and have been impressed with the quality of all of them, especially for price. They usually need some setup tweaks but nothing major.
Thanks for watching! I’m having a ton of fun making these videos. I try to get as many as I can to help people figure out what they may want to get. The problem is, most of them are good! 😄
Another nice guitar Kyle, I really like the fretboard it looks exactly like Hawaiian Koa wood just beautiful. I was wondering why some guitars have the pots screwed into the body and others have it screwed on the faceplate? The Funk 49 riff was absolutely begging for some light effects thats a legit 60s tune.
Thanks! That’s one of my favorite fretboards looks-wise, I think I got lucky with that one. The pots just depend on the style, most Fenders have them on a pickguard or plate while Gibson puts them on the body. Just a design choice I guess. Haha that song wasn’t planned or I would have. I just stumbled onto it when I was messing around and left it in the video lol.
@@onemoreguitarchannel Hi Kyle, if I wanted to duplicate an opening riff of a song, let's use "All right now" by Free as an example, how do I know where my treble, mid and bass should be on the amp as well as gain, reverb etc. Also the same for the guitar itself, how much tone what pickups to use etc. and would effect pedals be necessary?
