    Bro the first 5 seconds cracked me up! I agree with you, homage watches make a perfect placeholder until you can afford the real thing. Also lets you test drive without breaking the bank.

    Loved your message found it very informative. I liked your ideas for making the watches your own by changing the designs on them😮 Great presentation and suggestions!

    Hi Skyler!
    First of all, you made me laugh a lot at the beginning and end of the video! 🤣
    I replied to you last night, but the message went wrong and I decided to delete it and try again today.
    Last week I visited my watchmaker and he told me, "Nice Seiko," and I told him that my watch was not a Seiko Tuna, but rather a $60 Chinese watch. My watchmaker was surprised and looked with his magnifying glass to see the details of my Addiesdive watch. He immediately told me that he does not repair or service Chinese watches, for various reasons and excuses.
    Now, regardless of his refusal to work with this type of watches, I told him that you have to know how to differentiate which watches you wear on your wrist and give them their place within a collection. I told him that I am not going to take him for service and/or repair any of those watches, because with the cost of a service he will buy me a new one (I have not yet reached the level of being able to change movements), and that if I take watches to him , will be the ones worth giving a service to and keeping until the end of my days.
    But the most important point I want to touch on is that I was not ashamed to wear that homage watch and that I have no problem telling people who ask me about my watches if they are from the original brand or if they are a homage. I told my watchmaker that I would rather enjoy a homage to a new Seiko Tuna, fresh out of its packaging, than to look for a used, abused Seiko watch, without knowing what treatment its movement received. Then we have the problem of prices, on eBay and other platforms they sell you vintage watches at very high prices that do not justify their purchase.
    These days I have been wearing a Steeldive Captain Willard watch on my wrist, a watch design that I love and if I wanted a Seiko I would have to search for a Vietnamese seller on eBay and I would risk buying a frankenwatch.
    Anyway, I already wrote a lot, to finish I have to say that I have all kinds of watches, from Swiss, Japanese, English, North American, an Elgin pocket watch that is more than 100 years old, a Seiko Bullhead from the 70s that was my dad, but I also have a few homage watches that I love and enjoy them without feeling shame or any other type of negative feeling about them.
    Greetings and thank you very much for the video!

      Wow man thank you so much for taking the time to write this out and give me all the details. It’s nice to get you perspective, especially because you have a large range in experience with different watches. I one day to would like to take a few of my watches to a watch maker and have a conversation with them about the opinions and perspective on affordable movements. And I think like you I would keep to my self what I am capable of doing my self to see if they withhold information thinking I’m just a regular person that don’t now much about modding and building watches or info on watches general. I’m glad to hear. Well versed collector like you self still indulges in some homage fun proudly. It is my pleasure making the content and I’m happy you enjoyed it. I also did a live talking homage watch’s with 3 other collectors if you want to check that out when you have time. Hope to see you on the next one!

    Awesome video nothing wrong with homages. I have an Invicta 1953 and proud to have it. I don’t to have the real thing anything over 3 grand is ridiculous for a watch. For me any cool looking watch if fine main thing you want to look cool and tell time that whats matters most.

    • @Skyler.Santana
      @Skyler.Santana  5 місяців тому

      Well said! The 1953 is a dope watch for sure. Starting to realize the same thing on the cost over 3 grand being brand name fee charge 🤣

    Hi Skyler! Peter Kotsa talked about the safety of wearing homages in his recent review of the Pitzmann 3. He pointed out someone was killed recently for a watch mistaken for a Rolex. Something to think about, depending on your situation

    • @Skyler.Santana
      @Skyler.Santana  5 місяців тому

      Yea it really is a scary feeling. I think at this point if I had any concern about there I am on vacation then I’m just wearing a G Shock. Honestly homage or not if I’m wearing my PRX they mistake it for a more expensive watch it can still happen. It. Homage can definitely increase the odds for mistaking a luxury brand. So I get it.

    I have 2 Pagani Designs. An tiffany blue Oyster Perpetual and a homage daytona. But I never wear them nowadays. I remember receiving them and immedately was underwelmed by the bracelets.

    • @Skyler.Santana
      @Skyler.Santana  5 місяців тому

      I can respect that. I usually always change the bracelet if I’m getting a homage from a brand like PD. I still put them on from time to time but maybe that’s because i ended up customizing them. I appreciate you checking out the video! I’m going live showing some today if you are around at 11

    If you have Amazon's Alexa, ask her how to pronounce it and see how strange her response is. For me the h is silent but both ways sound right to me. When it comes to homage watches, I absolutely love them. I have multiple watch boxes to prove it.😁

    • @Skyler.Santana
      @Skyler.Santana  5 місяців тому

      I definitely will when I come across an Alexa. It’s all good either way someone wants to pronounce it doesn’t matter to me. That’s cool you have a large collection of them.

    The word "homage" is often used indiscriminately on everything from direct copies (counterfeit watches) to watches that simply use a lot of the same design elements and "look a lot like" another watch. There are some people who would argue that the Rolex Submariner itself was a "homage" to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms that preceded it, because it borrows a lot of design elements. I think everyone agrees that counterfeiting a watch, making an exact copy with the original trademark and logo is wrong. Just like making fake Versace handbags, or fake Nike sneakers would be. But no one can patent a style of watch, so watches that look similar but bear different trademarks are fine. Just like SUVs that look similar, and beers that taste the same.
    I don't believe there is anyone who buys a $50 watch as a "placeholder" for a $20,000 watch. They buy them because they like the style, and they can never afford to own the real thing. This is the same reason why people will buy a Mazda Miata rather than a Porsche Boxster. They would rather have the Porsche... but....

      I think you have all valid points Marty! I appreciate you taking the time to give us your thoughts. It’s crazy how many layers and new things I realize from this subject every time it comes up. In the beginning I really did feel that my $100 Pagani Design was going to be a place holder for the real Sub no date. Maybe I was fooling myself self? Or I had the right intentions that just so happen to have changed directions at this point when I redefined what luxury means to me and how much I ever will feel comfortable spending on a watch weather I have the money or not.
