    I have not put the lightweight flywheel and clutch kit in my nd1 yet, but i did just put it in my abarth; monstrous difference. Car revs so much quicker, had one in a 2018 gti and didn't notice any difference

      It's subtle, and subjective, and comparing across other makes and models won't give you a very accurate comparison. We recommend reaching out to your local Miata club and getting some first hand experience with someone who has done the mod to your make/model of Miata :)

    Any transimission (gearbox) reliability concerns going from the dual mass to a single on ND2? I have read that the dual mass flywheel saves the tran because of the reduced vibrations.

    for ND2: does the sprung component in the upgraded clutch aid to reliability? or is recommended to upgrade both for ND2 just for drivability

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Рік тому +1

      Both. It does help with the reliability, but also greatly improves the drivability and pedal feel.

    @Flyin' Miata, i am looking at a Nd1 with a ND2 transmission. Which flywheel and clutch shoulld be chosen? For ND2? Or it follows the crank of the Nd1.

      Hey @Benny Ang, I have some info that might help.
      I swapped an ND2 transmission into my ND1. I maintained the same ND1 clutch/flywheel. All I had to do was swap the ND1 snout/front bearing retainer into the ND2. It's just a cover w/ some sealant. The snout moves the pivot point of the clutch fork forward.
      As a side note.... the ND2 transmission didn't last long either. I ended up swapping the transmission to an NC 6 speed trans. Flying Miata has the adapter kit. My vehicle is supercharged and tracked frequently

    Can you provide a weight comparison on your pressure plate assembly and the stock one? Since the pressure plate assembly acts as another (obviously much smaller) flywheel it would be nice to have this information.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Рік тому +1

      The stock assembly weights 9.55 pounds, our upgraded assembly weighs 10.6 lbs.

    At 3:45. You mentioned rattling at deceleration, is that also normal on a stock clutch? My ND has a slight rattle on decelerating round 2500rpm. I can only hear it with the top up.

      The stock clutch should work just fine at stock power levels.

    I have a 2020 Miata and am considering switching to a single mass flywheel, what kind of transmission reliability issues could I expect with that switch? This car is my daily driver and most likely won't have too many power mods.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Рік тому +1

      While the single mass may transfer a little more vibration to the transmission, we have not seen any issues so far in our long term testing. We have been running a prototype of this setup in a modified 2019 for 2 years without any problems.

      @@FlyinMiataVideo Excellent to hear! Even after 47,000 miles, I'm not real sure how I feel about the dual mass flywheel. It just doesn't feel consistent to me. It'll begin to grab low in the pedal for one launch and the next launch won't seem to grab until the clutch is almost fully released. It's been like this since new. Thank you for the reply, come time for a clutch replacement, I'll be making the switch to a lightened, standard flywheel.

    For a ND1 - Could you please advise if Main Gear Drive bearing can be easily replaced with the appropriate tool, or does it require the attention of a professional transmission rebuilder? Separately, how does one get the right thickness of shims (backorder for weeks!) if we don't know how much play is there yet for the input shaft? 🥲

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Місяць тому +1

      As a company, we've never tore into these transmissions before so, I'd reach out to a professional. Personally, I haven't been in these either but have some experience on others. If you don't have all the tools to remove, and press bearings along with a good shop manual to know the tolerances, a shop is going to be less expensive and quicker.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Рік тому +1

      The lighter flywheel lets the car rev faster, which may help acceleration in some situations, but it's going to be a subtle difference.
