I am blessed to be part of the generation that used to watch Fela live at the shrine on Pepple Street Lagos on thursdays for the free show. He played Blackman's cry occassionally as part of the medley of Afrobeat classics for the day's show. Those were precious evenings, man! Even then, as young Lagos boys, we knew that we were experiencing profound cultural moments that world would one day discover and relish. Everybody say yeah yeah!
What is so good about it? I'm not being confrontational, just want to understand this type of music, because as first time listening to it I don't like it

I'm 31 right now and just discovered Fela and I'm so amazed by his music. I thought what I have missed in those 14 years. But I was a kind of stupid young boy. I guess I couldn't understand how awesome Fela was. Now my eyes are open and so are my ears and heart.
