this man is a legend! He breaks everything down extremely clear! Keep up the great work
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that.
He is bigger than that God diety. The messiah
Yeah it's insane. First video in years I am watching on youtube that I don't skip any part. It's just pure info everywhere. He even compared to bondi 8, and covered the wide versions.

I love your thorough reviews, thank you!
Super helpful video! Very thorough but easy to understand. Thanks
Thanks for another great, informative video. I had narrowed my choices down to the Gaviota 4, the Glycerin GTS 20, or the Paradigm 6 for a max cushion w/support. I emailed your shop and quickly got a great response to my questions. I ended up ordering the Gaviota 4 and Glycerin GTS 20 yesterday. Can't thank you enough for all your great advice and in depth reviews, it makes informed buying so much easier.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate it! We hope you enjoy your new shoes!
Thank you! Great review, well explained.
Thank you for your very informative videos, they helped me buy the right shoes for me. Stay safe and healthy.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this info. This is precisely the kind of shoe I need.
Hope you give it a try!

Thanks! I appreciate it!
Excellent review!
Thanks for watching!
Flat/wide feet here..awesome review and thanks for explaining what J frame means. 👍😊
hello there, I have used the bondi 7s for a couple of years and they have been great. I work on concrete all day and have feet and back issues. I have flat feet as well. I was wondering if maybe I should try these over the bondi 8? the bondi sometimes feels like it's either a little narrow in the arch area or has too much arch support. which should I get?
Steve, I will be done rehabbing a torn left quad tear in July. Always wear a Stability shoe and have worn the Arahi before. what would you recommend the Arahi or Gaviota with the slow return to walking in July? Would the Gaviota be a better choice with this injury? TY
Nice review, looking forward to a Bondi 8 review.
Thanks for watching!
Hi again. You recommend this as one of the shoes I should try for my supinated feet. Do these shoes run narrow? I usually wear a size 8 but think I should get wide as I do have a wide foot and tend to swell after being on my feet a lot. Do you think wide would work out, or should I stick to regular size? If I order on your site and the shoe doesn’t work out, can I return/exchange? By your description, this sounds like the right shoe for me. I’m still going to look at the arahi 6 to compare.
Hi! I see the stability angle of this shoe but does it have good arch support on its own also? And does the rocker in this shoe take the pressure off of the big toe or add to it?
super helpful! They sell them in wide now btw :)
Hello i've been seeing alot of your videos. Which you recommend between Hoka Gaviota or Altra Paradigm?
Great video. Lots of useful info.
Thanks for watching!
@@RunMoore I personally appreciate info structured like you present it. Like this shoe is for this and it's this other shoe's "cousin" which is made for ..
@@ionutionut8343 Thank you! We like to keep our info accessible.
Completely new to running, I’m also a PE teacher so want something that I can be comfortable in all day along with being to do long walks and some (hopefully) longer distance runs. I am a bigger guy and suffer from Achilles tendinitis, as well as shin splints so is the best shoe for me?
Do you recommend customize insoles? Thank you.
This guy is huge 👏 😍 😳 🙌 prez 2024. Got my vote 🗳 🤪 😎
Do you still back this product even after the bad reviews on the bottom rubber separation? I got the Nike zoomx and am happy but the Hoyas are on sale. 145 bucks vrs Nike 200 bucks add overall a very comfortable shoe.
Great review
Thanks for watching! If you liked this review, you should check out our review of the newest version of this shoe, the Gaviota 5!
Steve. Have you ever heard of different colors of the same style HOka fitting differently? I got the all-black (black sole too) Gaviota 4 and it really seems to help with my plantar fasciitis. I hate the way the shoe looks all black...so ordered the white soled version. It fits completely different--foam isn't as soft, causes pain near the toe and aggravates my PF. This seems crazy to me seeing it is the same model!
That happened for me with a different brand of shoe. I bought a brand called Feiyue. The black one felt like it had more room in the toe box and the white one felt more crammed. I think the machines on one assembly line might just be set up better or they have better molds than on the other assembly line, even though they’re the same “model”.
If you have issues with Plantar Fasciitis, pain in the left foot, mid-sole to ball of heel, which shoe would you recommend. I have looked at both pair of Nike Infinity Run original shoes that I have been using for coming up on 2 years, and I really can't see any underpronation or overpronation from the tread. I am a Pet Walker and walk between 10-15 miles a day. In addition, left leg is about half an inch or so shorter than my right side.
The brands Hoka and Altra are both good for plantar fasciitis because they are low drop compared to most trainers, meaning they don't have a high heel in them. Higher heel shoes can shorten the plantar tendon over time and lead to a more difficult recovery. Since you seem to be neutral, I would look at the Hoka Clifton or the Altra Torin
Hey how would you compare the Gaviota 4 to the brooks ghost max??
for flat feet, is this better than the new balance x4 fresh foam?
Hi Steve I'm looking for some advice on a race day shoe ,I'm useing saucney hurricane 22 and vongo 5 and of course gts 21s. My legs are like I was born on a horse so the outside of my my trainer's wear out badly, thanks for any advice....Jim from Scotland
These are good options, some others to try might be the Altra Provision and the Diadora Vigore.
Hello, I have flat feet/pes planus. Is this shoe good for that? Also, do I need to wear my personal insoles for flat feet or do the provided insoles work the same?
Hi Steve. Thanks for the in-depth review. I want to ask a point of comparison question. I currently rotate the Gaviota 2, Arahi 5, and Hurricane 23 for my runs. The Arahi is the least favorite, not as much cushioning but a smooth ride. The Hurricane is probably the softest of the three and definitely the most responsive. The negative to that is I find myself running too fast on days that should be easy days! The Gaviota 2 is like your favorite old pair of blue jeans, nothing fancy but just gets the job done. I'm debating between the Gaviota 4 and the Paradigm 6 for my next shoe. Between the two, which has the "softer" ride? Thanks for any info you can provide.
In my opinion, the Paradigm 6 provides the softer ride you are looking for while keeping the responsiveness of the Hurricane. The Gaviota provides more stability but doesn't have as soft of a ride as the Paradigm. Thanks for watching!
@Run Moore Excellent question and response, I was going to ask the same thing! My other concerns are fit and durability. I've read several reviews that said both run narrow and sometimes a bit short. I normally wear a 9M (US men's) but shoes like Nike are way too narrow for my feet. Any suggestions on which size/width I should order? I'll definitely be ordering from Run Moore. Your videos have been a huge help in narrowing down my choices, the least I can do is support your business - and subscribe to your channel.
How's the traction in wet conditions? I hear the Bondi 8 is slippery.
What is the difference between the gaivota and arahi ? Thank you
Do u recommend sizing up or ordering wide ?
I have plantar fasciitis and I was able to wear this shoe for 4 hours straight while standing. No pain!
Nailed it
I am trying to decide between the Bondi 7 and the Gaviota 4. I am a school photographer and therefore am on my feet for long periods of time. My current New Balance cause foot and back pain at the end of the day. Which one of the 2 Hokas would you recommend @Run Moore?
If you have flatter feet or falling arches, I would recommend the Gaviota, but if you are pretty neutral then the Bondi will be a nice amount of plushness for all-day standing without the firm stability.
Hi Steve,
I am currently using the Asics Gel Kayano 27 and Nike Air Zoom Structure and am looking for a new pair.. i generally use it while in office and occasional walking... would this be a good choice... what would you recommend?
Hoka Bondi 7 try it.
Hi
My name is Vanessa and I have moderate pronation issues. I wear orthodics and was wondering if the Gaviot 4 would be good for me. I have a lot of problems with my neck back and hips. If I wear my orthodics with this shoe will it over correct me and make my symptoms worse or is it best not to wear orthodics with this shoe. Thank you for your help. Vanessa
This would be a good shoe for you to try out since it is max stability. I always recommend giving stability shoes a try without orthotics for a couple weeks so you don't run into overcorrection issues.
Hi there, I’m training for a marathon and I overpronate I have been using the Arahi 5. But I feel like I end up running to fast on what should be easy run days and my calves and hip are tightening up quickly despite stretching. Would I benefit from Gaviota 4s on my long run days to take the pressure of my joints and increase comfort?
It is a heavier and more stable shoe, so it could be a great option on those long slow days. You definitely have to supplement that with consciously slowing down on easy days.
10 hrs on my feet. Hoka gaviota 3 and bondi 7. Its like walking on clouds. Yes it is pricey but my feet is worth it.
Hey there. I have knee cartilage damage on my right knee, it tends to swollen after I do my runs. I have been using the Asics kayano 28, but it doesn’t seem like it’s protecting me as much. I also tend to overpronate a lot, which has lead to injuries on my left ankle as well. Are there any shoes you can recommend to me that will protect my right knee? (Especially from the hola brand)?
I would recommend the Hoka Gaviota, it is a max cushion max support shoe. It has plenty of cushion but is also firm enough that it offers nice stability for ankle injuries.
@@RunMoore Thank you. I just got the Arahi 6 and Gaviota 4. The Gaviota 4 felt like a premium stable shoe, it felt so nice running on them. My right knee doesn't take much of the impact since running with Hoka shoes.
@@Razor5313 That is so great to hear!
@@Razor5313 between the Arahi and the Gaivota whick one do you prefer and why? I just bought a gaviota 4 and I'm loving it but where I live I do not find these model, so Im thinking about an Arahi to rotatate between them.
I need advice. I had Bondi 7 for less than a year and had to return those as the ankle cushion sagged. They were kind enough to refund me. I am in the market for another shoe now. The Major drawback of the Bondi was it moved my steps, meaning I could feel if the road was slanting it will move my feet accordingly, not presenting a stable shoe, many times i had to correct my posture to get this corrected, as you rightly said at the end of the video. I am planning to order this or arahi now. So need your advise. First I thought Clifton, but looking at your video, I think Gaviota is the best for flat feet/PF issues. Can you help me understand if they will suit my need?
Hello Paramvir - Yes, I would for sure lean you to the Gaviota. The Bondi is great but it does exactly what you mentioned. It is not "grounded" and moves on any surface you are on and any pronation you may have. The Gaviota has that sturdy feeling when you put them on while still being a max cushion shoe. It's also one of my go-to shoes to pull for someone with PF. I hope that helps and thanks for watching the channel.
@@RunMoore Thanks! I am planning to check the clifton *8( as they have wide) and Gaviota today!
I went ahead and tried the G4, they were good, but the Size 11 (+1) was better than my regular size of 10, They cupped my feet fine better than Clifton 8. However I saw a few hours of videos and found that 1080v12 NB was a better bet, though they are heavy but seem to be better, I have ordered those as of now, and will check, if they don't feel good, will go for G4 then.
I can't decide between this, Brooks Beast 20 or Alra Paradigm 6
All great max-cushion, high stability options. The Paradigm will be the softest of all of these but tends to not be the best for severe supinators (leaning to the outside), so if that is your issue, I would go with the Gaviota. If you are a pronator, any of these will be great options.
I’m 300 pounds I have knee problems which would you recommend hoka Bondi 8 or OR HOOKA 4 GAVIOTA OR BROOKS HYPERION ELITE 2? For cushion support and stability
Those are two very different shoes! I would wear the Gaviota 4 for sure. It's great for the knees and has lots of stable cushion. My guess is it will also have more durability than the Hyperion Elite.
@@RunMoore thank you 🙏 for replying back god bless
How much for gaviota 4 size 10
Hi there I'm from the UK and just found your reviews on the hoka arahi 6 and the gaviota 4 I have flat feet and over pronate pretty badly I currently run in the arahi 5 which I have the wide fitting 2e and was reviewing the new balance vongo but after watching your review on the gaviota I'm wondering do you think this could be a better option stability shoe for me
The Vongo is a nice shoe as well. It is not as stable as the Gaviota though. It's also a max cushion option but stability wise I still prefer the Gaviota 4. It has more cushion and more stability than the Arahi as well. Thanks for watching!
@@RunMoore thanks for your feedback I think I'll be buying the gaviota 4 need as much help as I can get
hey Steve, pls review bondi 8, thanks
We will closer to the release date!
I'm going over their site right now, and they're not offering the 2E wide yet
Correct, not every size and color are available yet, but we expect it to come out very soon.
@@RunMoore Any updates on the 2E wide release date?
@@Queyh2 Unfortunately we don't, but we will update you when we do!
is it good for flat feet
Is gaviota 4 has the same cushioning of bondi 7 ?
They are both max cushion, so they have the same level of cushion, but the Gaviota is a little firmer through the midsole than the Bondi.
in Vietnam the blue color is only available, but im only in love with the black 😞
That is a bummer!
@@RunMoore thanks for your videos so that I can chose the right shoes. at first I assume that Bondi 7 is suitable for me but lastly the best one for me is Gaviota cos I got pronation
Just picked up a pair at Ross for $60 😄
They are absolutely missing the mark with not having the Woman’s wide ! I have to buy the mens because I need wide. And if they would read the comments on their site, they would see how many women want a wide with color options !
Looks like a great option for us pronators but I don’t think I could betray my lovely Arahi’s
The Arahi is such a great shoe!
It's a little heavier but has more cushion. Ask me after a couple hundred miles, lol
Is this okay for weight lifting/cross training?
Personally would not recommend this shoe as a weight lifting/cross-training shoe. The high stack height of the gaviota would cause instability issues while lifting. If you wanted a Hoka you could use for cross-training/weightlifting it would be either the Hoka Solimar or the Hoka Kawanna. Both are lower stack height with less of a rocker profile to help you lift and run with comfort.
Is this shoe a decent shoe for a overweight guy starting out?
I kinda disagree that the Gaviota keeps your foot in the middle. I find that the J-Frame is too built up on the outside that it throws my feet to the inside causing more overpronation.
When will the 5 come out?
We anticipate that the Gaviota 5 will release in July!
@@RunMoore Amazing Thank You. I went ahead and got the 4, I love them. I actually like them more for daily wear than the Bondi and Clifton. I'm a makeup artist and can be on my feet on set for 10-14 hours. I started seeing more and more people on set wearing these. I see why. Thank you for the video and response.
Are these bad for a slightly wide foot?
Not at all! We've had a lot of remarks about the Gaviota fitting a pinch wider compared to other Hoka models. They also offer the Gaviota in a wide width if you feel a standard isn't wide enough. We recommend trying on a pair in person to get the sizing correct.
@@RunMoore thank you!
The Gaviota 4 is not currently offered in a 2E wide.
Not all sizes and widths are available yet. They are expected to be released anytime now.
@@RunMoore I was messaging with Hoka a few weeks ago and they are not sure if or when they will release a wide for the Gaviota 4. I hope your info is better than mine.
@@ckcbmrice Any updates on a 2E wide release?
@@Queyh2 I haven’t checked in with Hoka recently . I bought the Arahi instead and have been checking the website.
Wide version is now available at Hoka website!
The reason it is called bond-eye and not bondy is because there is a very famous beach in australia called Bondi which is pronounced as bond-eye.
We know it's named after Bondi Beach and should be pronounced with the eye sound. We were introduced to the shoe as the Bondi with the ee pronunciation by our Hoka rep back when we opened. We've been using that pronunciation ever since.
Is this a good shoe for hallux rigidus? If not, what's the best shoe for it?
Steve, see below
I find that the decorative "lines" in the fabric of the Gaviota 3 are a weak spot, they are ripping one by one, almost as if it were by design. The Gaviota 4 don't have that and to me it's the single most important improvement. Also, the outsole rubber seems to be harder and thicker.
That is great to hear, thanks for watching.
What about metastalgia?
When I was diagnosed with metastalgia, my doctor recommended the Hoka Gaviota 2 which was perfect for me. I bought the Hoka Gaviota 4 in June 2022, and three months later, I have a hole coming in the mesh near my toe. I was disappointed with Hoka’s return policy. I am pleased with the stability and cushion of the Gaviota 4.
I work for amazon after a long day my feet hurt I need the perfect shoe for that long day .. wondering if these or the bondi 8
Both the Bondi 8 and the Gaviota 4 are going to be fantastic choices if you are on your feet all day. The Bondi 8 has a softer, more plush feel to it while the Gaviota 4 is going to be a bit firmer and more stable. If you have problems with your foot turning to the inside or outside, the Gaviota 4 would be our recommendation. If you don't need the support but want a soft, plush shoe, the Bondi 8 would be our pick.
