  • In this video, we go through the basics of replacing the oil and filter on the Royal Enfield UCE (EFI) engine. As a demonstrator, we are using a 2015 500 EFI B5, but this is also applicable for all of the other UCE model Royal Enfields.
We offer a huge range of accessories and parts for any post war Royal Enfields, and this includes the service kit we used in this video. In the link below, you will find a range of service kits listed in our online shop:
    accessories.hitchcocksmotorcy...
Torque settings as taken from the workshop manual:
    Filter gauze cover 0.6KG-M (6NM)
    Main drain plug: 2KG-M (20NM)
    Oil filter cover: 0.6KG-M (6NM)
We hope you find this video helpful and informative, please drop a comment below and let us know if there is something you would like to see in the future.

You could mention that the kit with the o rings is an item, part no90055D. Anyone just ordering a filter gets a bare filter.

Thank you for creating such a clear tutorial on the engine oil change. I have no worry now about carrying out the job myself.

I have a 2013 model exactly like that one, in the Forest Green color. I bought it new. I have converted mine to an Amal carburetor using a kit from Hitchcocks, and also installed replaced the 30 pound cat con torpedo exhaust with one pretty much the same size and shape as that one, except in chrome (I DESPISE flat black) also from Hitchcocks. I run mine without the removeable baffle at the end.
I live in AZ, U.S., and use Motul 20w50 oil. It gets HOT here. Having been used to Japanese bikes, this bike is a nightmare to change oil in, but that's what you have to deal with when you have a REAL vintage design bike, and not a modern retro. The sound and feel of this engine is worth it. Switching to a carburetor and aftermarket exhaust completely changes the sound and feel of this bike. It's 10 times better. Sounds and feels just like the old iron barrel Bullet. Besides all the steps required, which just seem to go on and on, I have had two problems not mentioned here.
The first one is the two large O-rings that go at each end of the filter. The one you put in first, before the filter, and the other one that goes on the spring loaded filter cover. There are no grooves for these O-rings to fit into, and there is a bit of room for them to move around, so it is impossible to know for sure if they are in the proper place after you have installed the cover. I have used vaseline to help hold them in place. The second issue is getting the oil level right. I want the oil level on ALL motorcycles to be right at the top of the sight glass. That is NOT overfilled. I put in a couple of quarts of oil, and with the bike on the stand, started the engine and let it run for about 15 minutes to get it nice and warm. I then let it set for an hour or so, on the stand, and checked the oil level. I could just barely see oil at the very bottom of the sight glass. I filled it up to the top of the sight glass, ran the engine a few minutes, and assumed the oil level was correct. I left it till the next day. Just before going for a ride, I looked at the sight glass, and to my surprise, the oil level had dropped again, to just above the bottom of the sight glass. Before starting it, I again filled it up to the top of the sight glass. I warmed up the engine for several minutes, and went for about a 50 mile ride. When I got back, I parked it on the centerstand. The next day I checked the oil level, and this time it was still where it was supposed to be. To make sure it wasn't overfilled, I leaned the bike slightly to the left. With the centerstand only about half an inch off the floor on the right side, I could see a gap between the top of the oil level and the top of the sight glass, confirming the oil level was correct.
I have no idea what caused the oil level to drop so much overnight. I have a H-D Sportster, which also has a dry sump engine, except it actually has an oil tank. And when you change the oil in it, the level stays put. This same thing has happened on every oil change on the Royal Enfield. I just accept that these bikes require a bit more fiddling than a modern bike, but they are so much more fun to ride that to me it's worth it. Recheck your oil level the day after changing your oil.

Getting the gauze filter out isn't as easy as in the video if you have a rear disc brake model. As the rear master cylinder gets in the way. I found unbolting the master cylinder makes it a lot easier.

Hello, if you have missed out an o-ring during assembly, its definitely worth going back to refit one as it may cause unfiltered oil to pass around the oil filter.
