- Being prey animals, rabbits often can grow very apprehensive about people reaching towards them. If you have a rabbit who has become very scared or reacts poorly whenever you reach towards them, this is a great exercise to help gain that rabbit's trust.

I did this with a rabbit, and accidentally fell asleep. Woke up, and he'd dragged the blanket over top of himself and curled up on my hip and went to sleep with me. Best thing to wake up to ever is a rabbit who has decided to tuck himself in and sleep with you because you took an accidental nap. RIP Jack
I've used this tactic with my mother-in-law and can confirm it's effective.
As an actual rabbit, I can confirm that this works but the best results are when the owner is a female professional fitness model between the ages of 21-28. Bikini optional.

My Grandparent's rabbit Peppermint was abused by their owners. He was really sweet at heart, but he saw human hands as bad things.. Like hits punches. After lying down in a pen with him for about five minutes, he started to sit on my foot and fell asleep. I also fell asleep. When I woke up, he was on my side.
Rabbits are strange animals.
For example, in this video we see a frightened rabbit: however, this bunny did a "binkie" and eventually lay down, which is a sign that he is relaxed and happy. This is strange :)
Seems like he's not scared anymore but sadly it also one of those who don't like to be touched,one of my rabbits hate when I try to pet him,the other one doesn't mind as long as I'm not touching him on his ears and for too long 😂 they both don't allow me to pick them up or groom them etc. I adopted them when they were adult so I don't think I can change it anymore tho

Lucky mine a free roam bunny to. However for some reason when I go to walk to her she hops away but what I don’t get is.. that she licks me and lets me hold her. She been spaid whatever it called for females recently (about 1 - 2 months ago) I don’t know what to do 🤷🏻♂️

This is an old video, so: General advice for becoming friends with your rabbit is to hang out in the same room and wait for it to become used to you (the room does not need to be a cage). Just hanging out in the same room is fine. You and your pet can just chill out and do whatever you want until the rabbit is comfortable enough in its new home to come near you or relax in your presence or even ask for you to groom it. Treats help, of course.
Btw, to the people who are uncomfortable with "earning an animal's trust" because it "feels forced", just don't get a pet then. But domesticated animals (like these rabbits) can't survive in the wild, so ppl who love pets may as well become their friends and guardians. But I understand this imagery of being forced to hang out in an empty cage seems very uncomfortable. See my above advice about bonding with your pet bunny without an empty cage.

This is exactly what I did when I got my bunny 3 years ago. It definitely worked, just had to be very patient. Now he’s the one that can’t stop following me around XD
Great video. I did this similar with my cat. He was a feral stray who had to be caught from the street because of his bad medical condition. I got him from a shelter and the first months he barely even breathed when I was in a room with him. He just his and didn't move a centimeter. I just sat down there, hours, every day, several times a day, spoke to him, read to him from books, just sat there quietly.
The next level was roaming around. He was in my kitchen and I started doing the dishes (hadn't used my kitchen with him inside for weeks), started doing chores, didn't look at him when doing so.
He never left his cave for months when I was near.
When I then opened the door to the rest of my flat, he started roaming around, still shy and hectic, but he was used to me doing dishes and got relaxed when hearing the water running.
It took about 8 months until I could finally for the first time touch his fur for a short second.
I now own him for two years. He comes on the couch and looks for cuddling, but he will never be a "normal" cat. He very quickly attacks and gets scared and runs away. I can pet him for about 20 seconds now, if he has a "good day" and is in the mood. Sometimes he also sleeps on the same couch as I do. This is a huge success compared to this highly defensive and feral cat he was when I got him.
Why am I watching this? I don't even have a rabbit. I have a fudging test tomorrow.

@@resett6765 it helps if you lie down or sit near them every day for a while like in the video. And have patience! You can NEVER force something, especially bunnies, to like you! Mine still gets antsy if I go to pick him up from above his head (they think you're gonna eat them). I just squat down or get on my knees to pick him up, so it's less of a threat. Basically just try to make yourself as nonthreatening as possible, and give plenty of romaine lettuce as treats

My sister got two baby bunnies a few months back and she explained to us that rabbits are prey animals, which means that they will be afraid if you make the first move. You have to let them come to you and sniff you out so they feel less threatened. Lying down was a great technique.
