@@ItsGoodintheWoods great to hear from you! I just took it for granted you were from New Hampshire but I assume that you're someplace in Maine? I was born and grew up in Berlin New Hampshire. I've hiked a few of those mountains myself! You do any hunting? The wild hogs around here are taking over and there's half the people want them gone and the other half are begging them to stay. It's turned into a pretty lucrative hunting situation for some. If I could figure out how to send you a couple of pictures of these hogs, I think you would find it interesting. Take care be safe.
@@billsmith1819 I am in New Hampshire. But I love Maine. I only hunt on my own property. I never had much interest in venturing out into the woods with thousands of other people that have rifles. However, I would love to go on a wild hog hunt. That has always been something wanted to do. Those things are bad ass. And ruining a lot of land. I can't imagine why some people would want them to stay. We are having the same problem with coyotes. There are tons of them running around unchecked. We have an open season on them all year round. But not too many people actively hunt them . And now the powers that be here in NH want to limit coyote hunting. Some even want it banned all together. My dog has been attacked by them twice in the last year. Once just last month. She got ripped up pretty good. A $600 vet bill worth. I shoot every coyote that gives me the chance .
This video just earned you a sub. You are a genius! This is very inspirational. Your tent looks really substantial and well made. You can pay a fortune for a hot tent and not get this quality, and the bonus is that you can design and customise your own tent. It also looks virtually indestructible. Thanks for the upload. Not to mention that you can also then afford to chuck more money at the best woodburner you can get.

You do what you have to to live.
Thanks for the good, well explained video. I've seen Lonnie's video on this, but I liked your video better. Your video is just fine. I watched lonnie's video a couple of years ago. I knew I recognized the layout from there. I am going to try something a little different with a square or maybe a rectangular foot print. Basically something from a video by Survival Theory. Permanently tape in some reflective material and include a clear plastic door for a super shelter type of thing. Hoping to hold the clear on with magnets. I will be using all of your techniques with tape and flex seal etc. Good tip to use a heat gun to get the tape to flatten out and adhere. Happy trails.
I'll have to check out Survival Theory . Sounds cool . I have been thinking about a square or rectangle layout myself .......thinking I need to get my hands on some Tyvek to do it......... The flex seal works awesome man . That stuff doesn't want to let go . Best of luck on your project . Keep me posted . Thanks for your time and support . Have a great weekend - Justin
@@ItsGoodintheWoods I have thought about using tyvek a lot, but tyvek seems to be very loud and some people say that crumpling it up and throwing through a dryer cycle with NO heat seems to make it more soft and less loud, however when I did that it compromised the integrity a bit, so I would be very interested in your experience if you ever finally decide to use tyvek.
Very nice build , you thought it out well . 2 things that could help , on one end of the pole (top) add a tennis ball , it prevents wearing a hole . On the other end (bottom) get yourself a piece of 1/2 " plywood and cut a square about 16" × 16 " it helps support the tent in snow
@@ItsGoodintheWoods It looks a lot better than a lot of the cheaper winter tents I have been looking at. I have an insulated tarp I got off a construction site. I wonder how well that would work using this method. I think I would have to either burn or tap the whole bottom of the tent because of the layers. Something I may try.
I have framing crews and when we do half round windows we use that string technique. Nicely done bro. Great job on showing how everything was done. Love these DIY videos 👍. Have a good weekend Justin

@@ItsGoodintheWoods question - how would you adjust the measurements if the tarp were 15 * 20, rather than 16 * 20. I was thinking of coming back 6" from the corner on each side on the first measurement. Or would it make any difference?
@@gordbelsey1171 Use the same procedure I used . That formula works for any size tarp . My small hot tent I made from a 12' x 10' tarp. Your 15' tarp will give you a slightly narrower base than mine. Mine is 14' wide at the bottom. yours will probably be 13' and change .
@@ItsGoodintheWoods great shout out to lonny @ Far North bushcraft BTW. Watching his video on this design, I have to say you did a fantastic job of explaining what you did and how you did it. Super helpful!

I'm impressed with your build, your work is well thought through & you explain it quite well in detail. The making of your video was very well done also. All really well done from start to finish. I think I will copy your build. 👍 !
Great video. You can apply a little more precision in the size of your tarp tipi using an online cone calculator. This will allow you to pick the center height of your pole and diameter of the tipi. This will give you the size of the triangle to cut out from the tarp.
Awesome DIY hot tent. If you have any material left, you can add a skirt around the tent and add snow to keep out drafts. Thanks for the share 👊 💥 Seasons Greetings 🎄🎅🤶🥳🎉🎊🍻🇨🇦
Dude, this is great! I've been following your instructions and am almost finished making this. Question: obviously, one side of the door is taped. How do you keep the other side down when you are inside the tent? Did you put some velcro on ther
That's awesome man! I haven't quite nailed that part down yet.....but what I have done works pretty well for me so far.....I put a grommet on the bottom corner of the lose edge of the door. I tie some rope to that and work it around the closest outer stake of the tent , and underneath the tent, into the inside of the tent. After you go inside the tent and close the door pull your rope tight and stake it into the ground. This has worked very well for me. I do plan on working something else out eventually, When I camped in a snowstorm with this tent , all I did was close the door. I didn't secure it in anyway. It held a snow load and never once opened or let go! I was amazed. I intentionally left quite a bit of overhang on the door, and that helps it stay shut. The real reason for the large overhang is so i can control airflow......If I pull that door tight , but leave a gap between the door and tent to get in and out , the weather is blocked out due to the overlap, but fresh air gets in because of the gap I create. This has proved very useful more than once. You can manipulate that door to create more room as well All depends on the size of the gap you create. If the door is only 6" off the tent , thats good airflow and protection from weather, if you pull the door out 4" from the tent , it literally creates a bunch more room , at the cost of less protection. It's pretty slick! One of the things I really like about this build is the versatility of the door. You can make it as big or small as you like. If it's really nice out and you only want half a tent , no problem, pull up some stakes and open her up ! Super cold and want it buttoned up tight , not a problem! Nice options to have! I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand. I have a hard time explaining thigs sometime . Please let me know if you have any more questions. I am happy to help any way I can. Please keep me posted on your tent! I am extremely excited that you are building one! I hope you are doing well through all the madness. All the best - Justin
I appreciate how clear and concise your demonstrations and instructions are without having us watch you cut, measure, erect....you keep my time investment to a minimum but I can easily replicate your instructions. Nice work.
Thank you! In every one of my videos I try to cut out as much as I can, but still tell the story I aim to tell. I know time is important. It is one of my primary goals to not waste anyones time. I know everyone values their time different. But if I don't consider the footage important for the story, it doesn't make the cut. I really appreciate your comment

@@ItsGoodintheWoods thanks. Right now, I'm missing my husband. He was one of those men that could do just about anything. He was going to teach me how to weld, but got cancer and died instead. So I'm gonna have to figure it out on my own. The video that I watched cut the side off and welded a flat piece on so that it had a cooking surface. Then he cut a piece off the other side for an ash tray and air control. He also welded legs on it. The top, which is now the front, was cut and he used a pot lid to make the door. Don't know if I'm up to doing all that, but at least it gives me an idea of what can be done.

Very much appreciated! Thank you. This tent is absolutely fantastic! It is a beast! I put it through an 8 month torture test and the results were surprising to say the least. Rugged!! Well worth the time and effort in my opinion. Thank you for subscribing to and supporting the channel !
@@ItsGoodintheWoods well, when I retire, I fully intend to live off grid. I have now got a good idea how I will construct my home, and with what.
My husband and I lived in a make shift teepee for 3 years.....we made it out of three poles from a school gym remodel ( uneven parallel bars) and a tarp that was 20 x 40...we live in western NY state.....we had a futon as a bed and kept warm with a propane heater.....then we bought a camper. You do what you have to to live.
That must have been a very cool experience. I wish I had lived in a tent for a few year when I was younger.
Thanks for the good, well explained video. I've seen Lonnie's video on this, but I liked your video better. I thought you did an excellent job explaining how to do it, and seeing you do it as you explained makes it even easier to understand how to build the tent. I'm gonna make one now. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
Most excellent. I appreciate the feedback . Now go build yourself an awesome tent. You'll be happy you did . Keep me posted on your project . I would love to hear about it , or even see it. Best of luck . Thank you for your time . Have a great weekend Jeff .

That is awesome! You will get much use out of that tent! Thank you for letting me know you made one!
AWESOME!!! Gorilla tape is the stuff, brother. Very strong and very sticky...way stronger than a stitched seam. Excellent demo...thanks!
Hi John. I am very impressed with the capability of Gorilla tape! That stuff is amazing! I now take a patch of this stuff with me everywhere I go , A good length of it wrapped around a bic lighter. It's an EDC item now. I'm sure it's uses are limitless. That Flex seal tape is amazing stuff as well! Thanks for watching! - Justin

Saving money is watching corporals corner and not buying such expensive equipment and no need for cutting and extra grommets and extra this or that
very kool that you gave props to Lonnie :)
Had to do it. Gotta give credit where it's due.

Awesome tent I am Learning how to build a tent and watching you make it seem really simple
Thanks for watching. This is a simple process, it just takes a bit of time and care. Worth it! I hope you build one! Please keep me posted. I'd love to see it
'Far north bushcraft and survival' is an awsome channel, best way to learn is from the experienced ones. That said, you made an awsome tent/tipi/lavuu🕵️👍
They were the real deal for sure. I miss their channel
Ha I never throw away tent poles either. That tent is perfect. Great video friend.😁🖑
I knew they would come in handy down the road ! I just knew it !!!! Justified pack ratting !!
With no template or design, you did an AWESOME job. Just to make it from scratch is wicked awesome. jimbo NC
Thank you Jimbo! This is one awesome rugged tent ! A beast!
If you ever get around to making the square layout or rectangle layout I would love to see how you made it and the final results.
Video rocked. Daughter and I are going to attempt one now
Have fun with your build! Your daughter and you will have a blast, and a tent that you made that will last for years and years
How did it go??
Very nice build , you thought it out well . 2 things that could help , on one end of the pole (top) add a tennis ball , it prevents wearing a hole . On the other end (bottom) get yourself a piece of 1/2 " plywood and cut a square about 16" × 16 " it helps support the tent in snow
Thank you for the suggestions
"Super Hi tech" 🤣
Killer idea, nice work
Super high tech! LOL
Wow, this turned out a lot better than I thought! Great work!
I felt the same lol! Thank you. This is one beast of a tent..I still have it.
Very helpful ideas , definitely useful for adding guyline points. Great Work!!!
Thank you! Those guy out points work very well
Dude! Awesome video!

Cool build. I especially enjoyed this build when Lonnie of Far North Bushcraft And Survival did it in 2015.
These are fun builds.
Love this! Thanks for doing the video. This might just hit my project list!
This should absolutely be on your project list . I want to see these things popping up everywhere .
@@ItsGoodintheWoods Sounds good. Thanks

That ultra-dramatic foreboding music! What's gonna happen?!
@xeepromx Hahahaha
A circle is going to happen before I get eaten.
I love your Tent and I love what you're doing
Thank you very much! I appreciate that
Great video. You can apply a little more precision in the size of your tarp tipi using an online cone calculator. This will allow you to pick the center height of your pole and diameter of the tipi. This will give you the size of the triangle to cut out from the tarp.
Interesting.....
Awesome DIY hot tent. If you have any material left, you can add a skirt around the tent and add snow to keep out drafts. Thanks for the share 👊 💥 Seasons Greetings 🎄🎅🤶🥳🎉🎊🍻🇨🇦
You absolutely can.
I do plan on working something else out eventually,
When I camped in a snowstorm with this tent , all I did was close the door.
I love the dramatic music you used during the earlier build stages.
Thank you! I have caught a lot of grief over that music selection. I am glad to hear you like it
I appreciate how clear and concise your demonstrations and instructions are without having us watch you cut, measure, erect....you keep my time investment to a minimum but I can easily replicate your instructions. Nice work.
