@@joserafaelgarciamorales8724 An aircraft will produce thrust by pulling air into the props, or by pushing high-velocity air out of jet turbine engines. They make use of fixed wings to generate high and low-pressure regions once the craft has enough forward velocity, the high pressure under the wings will push the wings up into the low pressure above it Helicopters ignore all of that by moving the wings ( the blades) at such a high rate of velocity that they essentially act as a fan. Adjusting the angle of the blades will either increase or decrease lift based on the blade's angle of attack. Changing the angle of attack in a particular direction will cause the lift to shift in such a way that the helicopter will move in that direction. @11:36 It says on the plaque that it is an RM5A jet engine built by Trollhättan/Volvo flygmotor on a license from Rolls Royce ltd. RR designated them Rolls-Royce Avon. In Sweden the engine was used on the Saab A32 Lansen fighter jet. I think Trollhättan flygmotor later became Volvo Aero which now is part of GKN Aerospace. Trollhättan is of course a small city in Western Sweden. Saab cars were made in Trollhättan.
Ah you beat me to it! Noticed the Trollhättan text immediately. Been up close to the A32 many times now. Thats another story though. Interesting to see a RM5 at this place. Wonder how it ended there...
@@jemakrolyes it would be interesting to know how this engine ended up at Compton. There is an aviation museum at Paso Robles Municipal Airport in California. They apparently have a Lansen (and a Draken) on display, but it is the J32 version. Could still be a connection.
I love your advocacy for different roles in aviation. I've been in love with the field ever since I watched Air Crash Investigation episodes on my parents TV as a teenager. I'm a software developer and not in a situation where I'm able to retrain and move careers/industry sadly.
To be honest with you you actually are qualified to transition into Aviation, although it might be not directly involved with aircraft itself but you can be directly involved in a corporate sense. Airlines are always hiring and looking for individuals like yourself with your particular set of skills
Oh, hey, there's something I can help with, thanks to my chemistry background! I looked up the SDS for RXSOL 27, and found that there are four active ingredients: The first two are types of alcohols that will remain stable at the high temperatures and pressures of the inside of a turbine. So you'll get the cleaning action of rubbing alcohol, but it'll actually survive long enough to do it. Their molecular chains are long enough that they also won't be able to interact much with the metals inside the turbine. Unlike how rubbing alcohol and methanol (tiny chains) can damage titanium or aluminum at high temperatures and pressures. One of them has such a long chain that it even acts as a minor lubricant. The other two are special detergents that, when combined, not only act as a cleaning solution, but they form an anti-corrosion coating for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. They have an oily feel, and are brownish-yellow. So that's probably what got on your fingers! All ingredients are readily biodegradable, so dumping a few gallons out the back of a turbine won't be terrible for the environment, but you shouldn't drink it!

Good day Stig I hope you are enjoying your time off. I am a huge aviation fan and really like watching your adventures. I love how you explain stuff. I know you cant tell all but you keep it interesting. My addiction to aviation started in San Diego, CA Lindberg Field. Back in the day you could watch the planes take off and land in the parking lot behind the approach / take off. You could get so close the planes. If I had to do it all over again being an aircraft mechanic would be high on the list. Stig, I frequent the March Field air museum and you can get really up and close to these aircraft on display. There is a KC-10 tanker there now, very happy to see this happen. I was wondering if you could do a segment or explain on how the main landing gear attaches to the wing spar. I look at and can get just as close as you do at work, but can't see how it attaches. Also the top of the main gear goes right to the top of the inner wing box. How does this little space support such a heavy weight and landing abuse. Thank you Ryan
I will definitely do my best to show the main landing gear and try to explain that in future videos Ryan. My apologies on a late response I’m trying to catch up with the comments

It takes time and practice to understand what they are saying. You also have to be familiar with the airport layout and terminology. Once you get used to it, it’s very easy to understand.
Stig, if I'm not mistaken, in a video, you showed "bug strikes" on the inlet cowling of one of your aircraft. I believe you spoke of a video where you discuss bird strikes. when you have a moment, may I ask if you could share the link to that video? Thank you. Enjoy your time off... later🤙🤙👈👈

Hi Stig. I think the first engine that you looked at May possibly be a Saab. On the serial number plate, it reads Trollhattan Sverige which is where Saab had their headquarters and manufacturing facility. I’m only guessing but the motor may be from a Saab Viggen aircraft. Fantastic video, I loved every minute of it. Thanks Stig.
Just done a little more research. The motor is from a Saab 32 Lansen and is a derivative of the Rolls Royce Avon engine built under license be Saab Aero
Stig.. kind of surprised you’re allowed to do the Comp Wash on the ramp and not required to collect the excess wash fluid…especially in California. Also, speaking of Airbus cabin lights.. I don’t recall the test, or why we did it but the lights and speakers go through a test that turns the cabin into a disco tech.
10:15 I can definitely say that I’ve driven plenty of these shitty humvees in my 6 years in the military, and they are not comfortable at all. My last time in one, the terrain had been eaten up by the rain so there was hella bumpy roads on our make shift base out on the field. When we were the only ones left on the field, we’d take that humvee and speed through the bumps 😂 it had us straight up flying in our seats. We all hit our heads on the top of it. A helmet was always worn cuz there is literally nothing keeping you safe in one. Good times!
22:36 keeping an eye out for this. 9:52 my god, Humvee is one of my favorite vehicles, especially the M1025, M1097, M1114, M1123 ❤.
I’m so happy you enjoyed that segment of the video
Good day Stig
I hope you are enjoying your time off.
Thank you
Ryan
I will definitely do my best to show the main landing gear and try to explain that in future videos Ryan. My apologies on a late response I’m trying to catch up with the comments
@@StigAviation
Awesome Stig, Thank you. 777 300 would be fine. Also, you have probably already mentioned this but how aircraft do you service in one typical shift?
Thank you,
Ryan Tyro
@@ryanthggygh7716 you have to watch my videos for that. You’ll see what I do on a daily basis
Thanks for another "day at the office " I'll watch in the morning. (EST), Ohio time. Good night sir.🤙🤙. F-104 Starfighter had a tire in the engine compartment. I didn't notice it the first time. 😂😂
Good night and sleep well. Watch when you have time
AHAHAHA 5:41: *sniff sniff* Smells like airplane!
This has to be my favorite quote from this channel by a long shot.

Long time...been crazy busy...another great video...flying from BOS-LAS Christmas 🎄 week. From your P&W Friend.
Glad you enjoyed it, I hope you have a safe and fun flight!
@@StigAviation flying on the A321 Neo
My Dad flew the T-33 in the Air Force back in the 50's, along with the T-28, T-34, and B-47. He liked the T-28 the best, mostly because of its superior acrobatic and handling characteristics compared to the others mentioned. Cool video, love the Helis.
That’s absolutely incredible. I bet he’s got some great stories about his adventures
@StigAviation I could go on for hours about his stories. Some were life or death, running out of fuel on final, diversion air fields with the runway lights off, B47 bathroom was a 5 gal bucket, etc....LoL. Have a great day! Love your videos.
Speaking of restored aircraft. If you’re ever in JFK. You should check out the old Lockheed Constellation behind the TWA building. If I’m not mistaken it was flown to JFK and now it’s the bar behind the TWA building.
I will most definitely check it out when I’m in JFK
That's one of my greatest fears. People commuting back and forth to work in personal aircraft people can't even drive on the ground!
Good news is that it will be automated with computer control or by a private pilot, the passengers will not be flying it
Thank you!
I love that the old extinguisher carts with the big wheels are still around
Got to love the Flying Kangaroo getting a photo op in😁
They kept the design exactly the same on those old fire extinguishers. They are pretty cool.
Thanks Stig for tonite’s video and for taking us to Compton airport to see all the cool old aircraft. I had the same thought when you spoke about The Jetson’s. I actually believed it would have happened by now.
I’m liking the new part of airport you are working at beautiful wide open views.👻
It was definitely a fun experience, and yes the end gates are absolutely great
Have an awesome holiday Stig and family!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it

Hi dear friend. What a wonderful detour from the usual days at the "office". Hopefully you had a lot of fun. Have a nice day.
It was an absolutely great adventure Carlos and I very much enjoyed. Sharing this with everyone here.
Perfect, just at home from the afternoon shift in the refinery and a new stig shift is online😃

Fantastic content Stig!
Very enjoyable.
Many thanks!
On your last brake ride Stig, I heard a call sign I haven't heard in years "ABEX 403 heavy". I know the name on the livery has changed but ABXAir..... or Airborne Express 403 Heavy would have been a 767-200 flight coming from a KILN LST 2000-2003
That’s the one. I’m glad you spotted it.
Another great Stig Shift episode! The Compton 100 was interesting to see, as were the beautiful cars, especially that teal-blue Alfa Romeo! I'm a few days behind in watching this episode, so I hope that you are enjoying your well-deserved time off! Later! 🤙😃

Hello from sweden. I just love your channel. Explain very easy things and a funny person 😊
Thank you! 😃
you know Stig, on those old non flying aircraft, most of those scratches and dents will buff
right out. Enjoyed SS# 47,
Like I said in the video, I wish I had the money and the time and the hanger to actually make these things airworthy
You know Stig I tried my best to understand the ATC Language. Honestly, failed as it's very difficult. However, I really enjoy hearing the conversation between the ATC and the cockpit.
It takes time and practice to understand what they are saying. You also have to be familiar with the airport layout and terminology. Once you get used to it, it’s very easy to understand.
nothing beats a stig shift
Cheers 🤙
Nice video Stig!
Thank you so much Gerald
Stig, if I'm not mistaken, in a video, you showed "bug strikes" on the inlet cowling of one of your aircraft. I believe you spoke of a video where you discuss bird strikes. when you have a moment, may I ask if you could share the link to that video? Thank you. Enjoy your time off... later🤙🤙👈👈
I’m in the process of remaking that video about bird strikes so stay tuned 👍
@StigAviation thank you, I sincerely appreciate that.
I’m glad you’re back. I’ve been jonesing.
Thank you 🙏
Stig, I noticed alot of the cars being transported have the windows rolled down, seems a bit odd. Do you know why they do that ? Love every minute of all your videos, keep em coming !!
@@Aerospace_EdC from what I’ve been told, they leave the windows down to prevent locking themselves out of the vehicle. Because when these vehicles are being transported the batteries are disconnected.
@@StigAviation Ahh makes perfect sense, cool. I also seen quite a few videos from Zeto r's channel including the engine wash video, pretty cool process.

See my reply below (sort by newest). It's an RM5A engine built be Trollhättan/Sverige/Volvo flygmotor to be used in Saab Lansen.

Hey Stig, Don't forget about engineers being involved in aviation, I am about to start my first internship at a MRO shop
Absolutely. Engineering plays a huge role in this. They are the backbone of the manufacturing sector. Without them they can’t even design the aircraft
Thank you again Sir! ✈️✈️
My pleasure
Stig.. kind of surprised you’re allowed to do the Comp Wash on the ramp and not required to collect the excess wash fluid…especially in California. Also, speaking of Airbus cabin lights.. I don’t recall the test, or why we did it but the lights and speakers go through a test that turns the cabin into a disco tech.
It was an older video when they allowed it. Now we need a catcher
Good times!
Loved this video, Stig. Thanks again and God bless, take care.
I can totally imagine, and thank you so much for your service Tony. I appreciate you my friend.
22:36 keeping an eye out for this. My career in software development is at risk due to company instability and financial stress, and there is an international airport within a 20-minute commute from my home.
Back in 2015, I was trying to get into the Air Force, specifically wanting to get into aeronautics. Ended up getting rejected due to medical reasons, but the passion and nerd itch have always been there. While I hope I don't lose my job, I wouldn't be opposed to getting into your field of work
Well, as I said, Aviation is a very big open door, so many vast opportunities here. I encourage you to do some research and ask questions. I guarantee you you will find a job that you enjoy in this industry
Great to see another video.
Always happy to bring you another day at the office
