Hi, Stig. 767 pilot here who loves to learn about maintenance. I always enjoy your videos. Just two quick comments. The escape slide nitrogen bottle is not designed to inflate the slide on its own. The gas is released into a Venturi-like device. As the pressurized nitrogen rushes out of the bottle into atmosphere through the Venturi duct, its pressure lowers at the throat and air (from outside) rushes in to fill the slide. Very simple yet ingenious engineering. Secondly, the spring-loaded lavatory waste bin door must closed to not only keep a fire from spreading, but also to keep the released Halon concentration high enough, preventing the fire from re-igniting once it is extinguished. Same as why cargo compartments and their wall, ceiling, and door seals are checked during each ETOPS Pre-Departure Service Check (Halon concentration must be kept at or above a certain level for the length of the approved diversion time plus fifteen minutes). Thank you for educating us with your videos. :-)
You are spot on correct on both of those things. I just boiled it down to very simplistic manners when he came down to the slide bottle it’s actually a bit of a mixture when it inflates, but you are absolutely correct.

STIGS: (involving Chaper 38: Water & Waste) at 19:15 into this episode, you are ‘manually’ opening the ‘pooptank’ valve, so the tank can then be emptied outside to the waiting ‘pooptruck’ LOL!! ---> which brings to mind the following observation (at least for those of us in the MUSIC BIZ that have been on a few TOUR BUSES over the years): APPARENTLY!! you can poop on a PLANE but NOT on a BUS !! Q: On ~10% of flights, I get hit by kerosene (Jet A/A1) or combustion fumes in the cabin. Is this from ground equipment exhaust running next to an air intake, bad design, or some sort of mistake at startup? Thank you for the gorgeous video shots, narration, information, and video editing on top. It looks like a metric ton of fun, maximum variety, and plenty of exercise. I hope you get some sort of organizational or trade advocacy performance review credit for doing this, because it indirectly provides a benefit to the industry and your shop in particular. 🙏
The smell that you are getting is fumes from the outside that sometimes get ingested by the air conditioning system. It’s a normal occurrence when the aircraft is on the ground.

Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff."
As of June 2023, only 40 Boeing 747s were flying on nearly 30 routes worldwide. However, the 747 is being retired by many airlines in favor of more modern and efficient jets. US airlines got out of the B747 business years ago. Operating costs are too high and it will kill an airline in the off season.
Those round MIL-DTL-D38999 wiring connectors used everywhere look cool and they're super rugged, but they're not cheap. There are dozens of variants, depending on pin count, size, and coupling type, but a typical connector costs about $100 or so. Then the cable that plugs into it needs a matching D38999 connector on each end. When I see behind one of the panels that has dozens of cables going to the different LRUs, each one carrying I'm guessing mostly a mix of power, ground, ARINC 429, and discretes (on/off signals), the cost of just the connectors adds up. I remember Stig asking in an older video why Boeing and Airbus started using the multipoint ARINC 629 bus, but then switched to a mix of AFDX aka ARINC 664 (custom Ethernet derivative) for the backbone, plus the old ARINC 429 still used extensively, and I suspect it's because ARINC 429 is cheap to implement and universal, even though you pay for it in the weight and cost of all those wires and connectors. Apparently a bug in the AFDX switch used in the Boeing 787 is the reason why the FAA ordered Boeing 787 operators to power cycle them every 51 days to prevent "several potentially catastrophic failure scenarios" due to unfiltered stale data if you leave the Common Data Network running longer than that. That's a type of failure that you'll never see with ARINC 429 because it's so very simple. Also, you can't have hundreds of AFDX devices due to the cost of the AFDX switches. I suspect CAN FD will become for avionics what ARINC 629 tried to be because it's cheap and has worked so well in cars.
your videos are the highlight of my week. And further enhances my love for aviation since 2015 when i was 5 when i sat in a qatar 787 cockpit which sparked my love for aviation
GOT MY COFFEE!!. this morning,😁Fun fact on the 380, has 22 wheels four more than a 74. Horizontals have fuel tanks and over a million pounds max TOW. 4 x Trent 970-84 at 78,000 lb thrust each. service ceiling FL 430. Emirates Airlines is then largest operator of the 380 with 123 in the fleet.
Hey Stig, silly question: I see some planes have the writing on them "ETOPS". This means, some planes are selected to fly such long distances and others will not even if there is a need for that?
It’s a rating, it’s also a maintenance program that’s implemented. You also have to have particular amount of emergency equipment for it to be allowed to fly that long.

Thank you so much William. I really appreciate you being here and I want to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication. Enjoy your retirement my good friend.
Hope all is well Stig
Even if you hosted plane spotting I’d still watch. So let’s see some cool aircraft’s
Thank you so much Dave
STIGS: (involving Chaper 38: Water & Waste) at 19:15 into this episode, you are ‘manually’ opening the ‘pooptank’ valve, so the tank can then be emptied outside to the waiting ‘pooptruck’ LOL!! ---> which brings to mind the following observation (at least for those of us in the MUSIC BIZ that have been on a few TOUR BUSES over the years): APPARENTLY!! you can poop on a PLANE but NOT on a BUS !! (maybe the buses need that fancy VACUUM system that the planes have). MIKE ROWE could do an episode of ‘DIRTY JOBS’ with Stigs this particular day. LOL!! keep up the good work, man! -----> just finished watching all 47 of your ‘STIG SHIFT’ episodes for a SECOND time !! 🤟🏼🤟🏼
No better feeling after work at 2:30 am than seeing an hour long stig upload, love from Ireland
Cheers from LAX. Hope you enjoyed it
Yay!! Stig has uploaded his awesome video!! Let the adventure begin!! Wait need popcorn to go with this video!! Woohoo!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@StigAviation always do Stig! I always catch something new when I watch the UA-cam video!
@@StigAviation it’s always an experience to re-listen to all the stories in this format. It never gets old. 😊
That's a powerful flashlight 🤣 cool views of these engines in the dark !
Thank you so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I was just watching the last episode again, and it was beautiful to see a new episode! yes the A380 makes everything else including 777 and A350 look small
Seriously, a flying building 😅
The potable water panel…..the RV world NEEDS this….our stock options are not that great 😂😂😊
I’ve never had a RV, but I can imagine
100% agree Stig, slow and steady wins the race! My snap-on ratcheting screwdriver is the first aerospace tool I ever bought! Worth every penny with how many fasteners get removed and installed over the years. 🙂
Absolutely worth every single penny.
boeing should have keep the 757 its an amazing aircraft and thanks for keeping aviation safe!!
I wholeheartedly agree
Another great video Stig, interesting to see where the water service panel is. Always cool to see the 747 a beautiful aircraft and thanks for the 777 take off my favourite airliner to photograph. Till next time stay safe my friend
Thank you so much for watching Chris, I appreciate you
Ohhh its gonna be a good night! Time to gain some knowledge. Thanks Stig!
Thank you for being here. Cheers
Oh my gosh Stig, Speed Racer was one of my favorites growing up! Talk about a blast from the past!

Hello it’s me again :) at 25:57 that is the Ferrari 296 GT3 edition. Love when a new Stig video comes out.
wow i didnt know they made a GT3 edition of that car amazing, also that 911 is the new one looks cool but they don't have the analogue gauge no more :(
@@0sus yup the Ferrari 296 GT3 is the predecessor to the Ferrari 488 GT3.
@@PastorBedTime yep i do know that, but that car in the video doesn't look like a 296 GT3, I thought 296 GT3 Edition and the 296 GT3 are different cars, The one in the video is a 296 Ferrari Challenge car.
I didn’t even know they had a GT3. Well, I learned something new, thank you so much.
@@0sus it looked like it had the aero of the 296 GT3 car. idk i could be wrong but it does look like the GT3 car just red cause it looked like had the GT3 stuff inside too. But like i said i could be wrong.
What a nice video. I enjoyed every minute of it. Keep them coming and God Bless you and your family
Thank you so much, blessings on you as well.
thank you for the great video
My pleasure. Thank you for watching
I came here because of recommendations on Reddit. I just wanted to say that this is such an amazing channel. Next Monday i start my first ever maintenance job and your videos are extremely motivating.

Time for fun and adventure 🙌🙌🙌
Hey my favorite Stig break rider is back, makes me happy! Oh my gosh, I am truly amazed at the close tolerance of the turbine fan blades, the perfection excites me! When it comes to pesky turds, they all gotta get flushed down, yes sir! Lovely cargo, but I will skip the mustard yellow, I rather embrace the red. lol Now here this, the lavatories shall be clean, and the trash covers shall return to their upright position, and then we can thrust to TOGA. LOL! Life is always good, when we are brought miracles into our lives like Stig Shift. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being the humanity I wish to see. Great video!
Thank you so much
Whenever I open up UA-cam and I see a new Stig Shift I always know I'm not going to bed until late
Right!! I it's was 3am when I got the new Stig vid notification and was just about to go to bed. Which so totally is not happening now!!
Only videos I stay glued to. I'm kind of bored of everything else in YT haha
Thank you so much for being here and watching. But please don’t let it interfere with your sleep, get some rest. Come back tomorrow.
Absolutely no way that's happening!! If there's a new Stig Shift available I'm watching it right then!! 👌🤣
@@StigAviation it's the 4th of July! No work today 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Even within the first ten minutes of this video it simply amazes me how complex airplanes are. So many parts that work together that i didnt know existed until watching your videos.
And I am simply scratching the surface, it gets so much more complicated if I start digging into it further. Thank you so much for watching Carl
W vid as always!

Star Trek, the next generation,. Captain Jean-Luc Picard is my captain 🖖
Gooooooood morning!!! Hey, Stig. another day another dollar!
At 8:10, reminds me of Dr. Strangelove when Major Kong told the crew what was in their emergency rations boxes lol..."Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff."
That’s a great movie, I need to watch that again.
First to watch 😂👋
Hey stig!
Winner 🏆
my favorite the mighty Boeing 747 👍
As of June 2023, only 40 Boeing 747s were flying on nearly 30 routes worldwide. However, the 747 is being retired by many airlines in favor of more modern and efficient jets. US airlines got out of the B747 business years ago. Operating costs are too high and it will kill an airline in the off season.
The one and only Queen of the Skys 🤙
❤
your here early
Cheers 🤙
This was a very incredible and detailed explanation. Well done my friend. Well done. 👍
Im first, love you stig
🥇
your videos are the highlight of my week. And further enhances my love for aviation since 2015 when i was 5 when i sat in a qatar 787 cockpit which sparked my love for aviation
I am very happy you are enjoying it, thank you so much for watching
GOT MY COFFEE!!. this morning,😁Fun fact on the 380, has 22 wheels four more than a 74. Horizontals have fuel tanks and over a million pounds max TOW. 4 x Trent 970-84 at 78,000 lb thrust each. service ceiling FL 430. Emirates Airlines is then largest operator of the 380 with 123 in the fleet.
Absolutely fantastic information, thank you so much Mike. Cheers.
Priceless predator reference! Great episode as always Stig.
Did you like my Arnold accent 🤣🤣🤣
@@StigAviation it was on point!
@@StigAviation Thank you! Interesting info, good to know! Would be interesting if you could present these differences in a video someday :)
Love your work brother 👍

757 is my favorite old school bird. However the new A220 is starting to become the new age favorite. Those engine noises are hilarious lol.
The whale sounds of the PW is quite interesting

Thank you so much for the kind words Joel. I appreciate you being here.
Ever since watching one of Stig’s other videos talking about the lavatory and his advice of taking the extra second to wipe the counter around the sink, I’ve done the same when I fly. One of the many things that’s stuck with me from his videos. 😊
Thank you so much for doing that, trust me flight attendance, and mechanics appreciate that. And hopefully your fellow passengers will appreciate it as well.
