AMERICA IS CURRENTLY BEING ENAMORED BY THE LEGENDARY FILIPINO FOLK SONG ‘ROSAS PANDAN!’BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO, AMERICAN CHOIR SINGERS! YOUR SINGING WERE JUST MAGICALLY SPECTACULAR!
Even the applause is Filipino style with laughter, shouting, and clapping. Laughter is appropriate because the song ends with Dodong (the star struck admirer) drooling saliva over Rosas beauty.
You guys slayed the song. And you also articulated the Cebuano words correctly. I can understand every bit of it. To the choir master and conductor, thanks for choosing this song from my hometown. Its a great honor. Very well done!
My parents are from Kalibo Aklan and I am sure my parents kept an LP record of these visayan songs including ROSAS PANDAN. I was raised in Quezon City and we speak tagalog, only my parents speak ilonggo between themselves, my brothers and sister do not speak their language. It brings me chills down my spine listening to this song. I can only search for these and other folk songs and Ryan Cayabyab compositions online, THEY ARE not available in any of the music stores here in Sydney Australia where l had migrated decades ago. The speed of the song was abit fast but my gosh the blending of their voices was perfect and brings out the feelings of the song in my heart ! Thanks for uploading this song, it brings back memories of my childhood back in the Philippines. Again thanks !!!
@Strawberry Cupcake Ilonggo is the general language of the whole Panay Island consisting of the provinces of AKLAN ANTIQUE ILOILO all have similar languages between them but some certain twists in the way they pronounce them... either way they all understand each other even though they are far apart from each other. Have you ever heard of the language of antiqueño or AKLANON ??? The ilonggo language is from the ILOILO province which dominated and spread throughout the whole Panay Island. There are just variants per regions but the overall language is still ilonggo. I presumed you are not from the Panay Island but from either adjoining province within the Visayas.
I am a Filipino myself but I have no idea that we had this kind of nice and beautiful song that’s been antiquated by many years passed and still appreciated and sung by foreigners who I presumably know nothing about the meaning of this song. It gave me butterfly’s in my tummy and the renditions and the different levels of their voices was kept in perfect harmony of the lyrics and it lingers in my ears even after hearing it for the first time.
This song was popularized by a Visayan singer/actress Gloria Sevilla in the late 50’s. I watched that movie Rosa’s Pandan in Cebuano dialect. It was a blockbuster that time. I was then a kid. Very memorable one!
The wonderful sound of Music truthfully transcends human boundaries of language and culture. If ever there was truly anything wonderful that I wish Filipinos, and the Philippines, would be remembered for, I wish it would be our folk music, and all songs from the heart that bear the Filipino soul and spirit. Thank you for mirroring these in your singing. Tunay na napakaganda at nakakataba ng puso. Bravo!
You know if I visit the museum for culture here in Manila I would suggest that they will have a storage or collection of native Filipino songs as well as video collection of Philippine folk dances
he.did not even.mention where Rosas Pandan came.from.originally..Its.a Filipino.song about a lovely lady.Rosas Pandan From a mountainous village whose beauty caught the.eyes of Dodong a young.man..and Dodong.seem to drool.everytime.he.sees .Rosas Pandan
I'm so filled with nostalgia. I still remember this song from my youth. My mother used to sing this song as a lullaby to make us go to sleep when we were mere babies.
Jr Patatas suggested that singing be part of the Olympics, if dancing or ballet or floor exercise is a sport, so as singing like in a group. So University participants become Olympians too.And I'm sure Philippines would have it's first gold medal in the Olympics.
Amazing kudos to the conductor, and the choirs i, even dance while you are singing guys those were the days, we used to dance in school during school program, thank you all.
The iconic songs of pinoy that we have forgotten yet being raised by this people who’s not from our country. And it amazes me knowing that this people has more interest on this thing than we do.,
These students are taught how to read and sing the notes in the SATB format. They produce the sounds as they see the notes (sight reading) as opposed to rote learning.
True, I miss it too. No one is interested now a days😥. And then we go along with the song and we dance, how was that🥰 just a happy and simple memories.
i've seen countless videos on youtube of this being performed by international choirs. but I still havent seen a filipino choir yet🤣 Im sure there is one out there.
Their mouths did not pronounce every word of the song. The conductor's hand did not blend the tempo. Oh no! It's a complete different song they're actually singing. I am a Cebuano, I do speak the dialect that comprised of this song so it's pretty clear for me to read their lips.
Oh my im lost for words! Thank you guys for singing our song. Proud filipino here and i appreciate and admire you guys. Thank you!!

Daghan man gud diri sa visayas
Yes, it’s a Visayan style of music. The style is used because it shows expressions, whether fast or slow; strong or soft in vocalizing the song.
