As a new nascar fan i had the idea that I either wanted to convert a 2000 monte carlo to rwd. Or just buy a parts car to build my own nascar stock car racer that somewhat resembles the real thing.
Nice to see somebody else fixing GM's fuck up...I've been working on converting my 06 imp to rwd...to the gto rear end instead per advice from a friend that's a fabricator from roush. Hope to see your finish product brutha!
why they want to make every car fwd is dumb. makes you wonder why everyone drive a truck these days. good luck on your 06 impala, and hopefuly we will be done with ours sooner than later. and thanks for watching man!
I have been wanting to do this to my monte I will be watching every video and posting updates as I go that is for the vids man now I know it can be done
definitely alot of work, especially if you want it to not look like a hack job. do it once, do it right. it might cost more, but well worth it in the long run. good luck with your impala
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 yes I agree but for the price it will cost to do all this I might as well get one that's already rwd lol an that's kinda what I did .....don't get me wrong I love my 2001 monte Carlo an it was a great car but got tired of front wheel drive cars wanted to have more power
thats a neat project. you could have a rear firewall, or plexiglass floor. i have a car show video featuring a lowered blazer and he used plexiglass for the rear floor section. you can see all the trick suspension and sometimes you can see the driveshaft spinning when its in motion :)
That would be cool, but he wants to drag race the car, i dont think the tech guys would allow the see thru part, i seen that blazer in one of your vids, always neat to see ideas that other people are coming up with.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 oh drag racing? ok then you'll need the rear firewall anyway. if you have the rear firewall where the rear seats used to be, you dont need a floor. i think a rear firewall is mandatory for drag racing with a gas tank in the trunk anyway so that will fix that. if you wanted a floor anyway, you could use aluminum. its nice & light. cool project
Check out the Monte Carlo on YT that he put a turbo and nitrous on a 5.3L. He kept it fwd with a cadillac trans in it to handle the power. Racing slicks in front. Still pretty badass for fwd.ua-cam.com/video/bkwQ8BaPGnM/v-deo.html
Thank you for making this mistake from chevy correct. Can you put 56 Belair Tail Lights on it and make that correct too? There should have been a retro/throwback.
no more wrong wheel drive. 56 tail lights would have been neat with the gas fill behind them. most people would be like, what are those from? thanks for watching
looking forward to your test fit! I'm also scratching my chin figuring on how i wanna remount that rack and pinion to clear the engine. I was honestly thinking i would keep the stock components, drop them below the subframe, custom fab some control arms for clearance, and extend the steering column. Something was telling me that if i moved that rack too far forward it would at the very least mess up the handling of the car real good, but i get the same feeling playing with the idea of altering the control arm mounting points. Thanks for sharing!
test fits coming up next. none of us are here are suspension engineers. i was against altering any of the stock front end stuff, except moving the rack for clearance. moving control arms and mounting points doesnt seem like a good idea to me, GM knows what they are doing with all that stuff.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 I had considered swapping the control arms from driver to passenger that the angled mount point could be mounted further to the front, but keeping the straight mounting point on the subframe but I'm not sure. I think that's what I'm gonna try. This way I'll have clearance for the rack and pinion to steering knuckle and I can drop the rack under the bell. This way I can keep all stock config with minor modifications
I love this build. I’m in the middle of a LS swap for 03 Monte Carlo SS and wanted to go from FWD to RWD also. If you don’t mind my asking about how long & how much was the conversion roughly?
took a little more than a year with 3 guys working on it. im not the owner of the car so i do not know exactly how much he has in it but its prob 30,000 plus with everything. he was working on it too so he didnt pay himself, LOL
I wanna do the same swap with my 99 GTP coupe. This helps a lot man, subscriber fasho. Keep up these vids and I'll keep watching them over and over haha, serious tho
heck ya man, but it takes a lot of $ and work, it can be done. we are currently rebuilding the aluminum 5.3 out of a trailblazer, the owner wanted to find an aluminum 6.0 to use, but havent been the first person to find one at the junkyard yet, been close to getting one though.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 I didnt think it could be done. My guess was maybe 10-12k to do it. Most of it being transmission and engine. But hey its gonna be badass once I complete it. After college of course.
10 to 12k easy. alot of its labor time, we got what we could get at the junkyards, the owner gets new metal at his work, so he save on that. alot of his parts he bought on ebay so he saved some green there too. good luck on yours when you get there, a badass car is A OK with me! LOL
I wish my GP was awd or rwd. I thought about converting to the versatrak but so many people say that drivetrain sucks. And I also have to ask; how does your lift hold up being outside with the weather elements?
awd you would prob want to use a silverado setup, or something similar, maybe a s10, but it might not hold up? the paint on the lift is fading, you need to keep everything oiled/greased up, and keep water from seeping into the cylinders, we put plastic bags over them as good as we can. we would like to put a carport over it. thanks for watching
the whole build from start to racing at the dragstrip is on here, check out the playlist i have on it, the vids should answer almost all the questions you may have
Too bad GM was too lazy to do this in the first place. Buick sux, they should have been shut down and we could have had a nice American RWD only car manufacturer in Pontiac. I hate when GM does something stupid right after doing something great like the GTO
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 I wish they would just grow a pair and be competitive against Dodge and Ford by playing the same game, but they just won't commit.
