I'm happy to see the respect top players have for Ding. They know struggles don't define a player, they've seen what he's capable of, at times he has made beating Magnus look easy. Coming back 3 times in a world championship match and then winning shows tremendous resilience. That's why I still believe in his chances. If he's in shape physically and mentally he'll have the strength to improve on what has been lacking recently, like convert winning positions in long games. Anything will be possible in this match, I can't wait.
That was literally over 4 years ago. He has been below top 15 since had he stopped hiding in China. Another international tour and he might drop out of top 20... Abhorrent paper WC.
@@JustAPokemonCommentingOnVideoshe isn't bluffing ding is just not in a good shape, Chinese government expect more of him too plus he has to hide his prep line for WCC so all that add up and create huge expectation and responsibility
True his win could be anytime made a super movie..when all gms wrote him after his loss and struggled to make the move , he came back on the very next match with a win and slowly levelled up and stuck his head up till last and surprised Nepo lost it in seeing his resilience
his mindset in the last world championship was that he didn't really want to win it and expected to end his chess career afterwards, and then he said it's ironic that he won and would now have to spend even more time on chess
Ding had 3K+ elo online and has had very high elo performances even having Fabiano-like moves where he was more accurate than the engine and he did that more than once too. But he has also shown incredible mental "issues" like when he spent 15-20 minutes on a single move or something crazy like that during the world finals. Most top players have had similar issues, in all fairness to Ding, his simply seems to be the worst by quite a bit. Fabiano himself, who I named earlier has had periods like this in his career so I think Ding should ask him for advice. Another thing regarding Ding, the competition has gotten a lot stronger in the past year, especially from India!
Form is temporary talent is permanent, we expect Ding and Gukesh will give great fight in this wcc tournament. Best of luck to both of them. My special wishes to Gukesh.
Dude I absolutely agree with the first guy. The way he used to beat Magnus back in 2018-19 was just insane, i really became a fan of him, man i really thought that Ding is the only one who can dethrone Magnus from the world championship at that time when magnus was in his peak, but sadly today its just not the case😢i really hope Ding gets back his lost charm and became a beast again and I m actually rooting for Ding though im an Indian
"Appear weak when you are strong" is a quote by Sun Tzu, an ancient Chinese military strategist. So it is possible that ding is in his best form and practicing hard to become more fit for the game. he won last time when he was not at his best, like how do you even find Rg6" under such pressure. i don't know who will win but I'm really exited for world champion match. best of luck to Gukesh and ding
Sun Tzu is definitely a top strategist, but I don't think Ding is playing this trick. What's the point after all? The chapmion title is "nothing" if others see your decline. (I mean, his legacy would be better if he was dominating this year, but then lost the WCC match to Gukesh, than it would be in the opposite case, when he was not dominating... even if he won the match now). That being said, yes, Ding is a calculating machine, and we've seen him perform under pressure (e.g. the win against Fabi's deep engine prep in 2018-9 (I think))... So I hope he'll come strong and the match will be interesting, regardless of who wins. I just don't think he's playing this strategy :)
He didn't say he's a massive favorite. He said that if Ding could *somehow* recapture his form from a few years ago, he'd be a favorite. However, there's no reason to think that he will.
Also one thing to note is that when Ding was at his best, it was also Magnus at his best. Their peaks coincided at around 2019, and it was then that Ding posed a regular challenge to Magnus. Ding’s peak was short lived, but what an era it was. Magnus Ding and Fabi at their best right before covid hit will in my mind always be the peak era of modern chess.
Gukesh showed some difficulties ultimately, too. And he lacks the experience of a world championship match. Will not be so easy for him if Ding is motivated
Show your weaknesses at your strongest! But I doubt if that was Ding. Gukesh as I predict before will be the next Chess Classical World Champion and not Praggnadanda. But come this fast for Gukesh is still unbelievable. Ding need to do a Paul Morphy this time. Fails to do so means the Crown will return to New Delhi! 🤭🤭🤭
Ding used to be a massive threat back in 2019 but ever since the pandemic he has just not been the same player and honestly in the eyes of many players like nakamura just appears like a completely different player. It is quite unfortunate to see how he has dropped in form and will most likely lose the match against gukesh which I predict will be a complete massacre. I am glad that as one of my favorite players he has become world champion but he is going to lose the title now unfortunately... still lets goooo ding!
I can say the same: He is ranked 23rd in the world. ;) jokes aside, I think nobody belittles his past accomplishments, and just like the GMs in the video said, he was a beast pre-pandemic. But the truth is, he is on the decline now. And it's not his fault, he has some mental issues (something pandemic-related, something probably that his govt. is pushing him,...). We wish him all the best. BUT Perhaps if he loses the title, he'll be able to catch a break, he won't be under so much stress as when he is the champion and underperforming. Maybe if would be for the best if he loses (and it is something that pains me to say... I love his playing style, and if he was in his 2018 form, I'd love him to be the champion..), so he can chill some more and resolve the problems.
