  • Every throw of competition and almost every measurement call, unless it was foul, or we missed it. This was a great competition with many position changes. Congratulations to all these young men.
Apologies for the compressor sound they were running to power live results computer. You will also here some commentary regarding our opinion of some missed opportunities on the officiating front.
Of course special acknowledgement to our athlete,Charles Pawlosky(JR), of Lakeview. You will see him throw big in the final round to gain 3rd place.
    Enjoy!

it's a shame that there is so little coaching when it comes to this sport. there are some real athletes here but with little knowledge on how to actually throw. This isnt their fault, like i said, its the fact that there are almost no educated coaches. every thrower had catastrophic issues with their throw that is the difference of adding 5 plus feet to there throw exept for the one thrower that spins with the long hair. That gentleman clearly has a good understanding of the physics of the sport.

In HS you see a lot of athletes who are technically limited by flexibility or strength but are still able to perform reasonably well. it's not always the coach but you are right in the general sense.
A lot of athletes are coached wrong and lose a lot of potential.

Part of the problem is that throwing, or track and field, for that matter, is a second or third sport for a lot of athletes. I coached for a little while and the best thrower I had one season went to a throws camp with me, learned a lot of valuable stuff there, then proceeded to dip out of practice early every day to attend off-season football activities. He spent no time on technique, he would just show up, warm up, take some throws exerting a ton of energy trying to see how far he could make it go, then off to football stuff. I doubt many of them know how they look throwing, or ever record themselves to learn their faults.

When I was a HS thrower we had no coach. The head coach, running coach gave me a magazine with photos to learn how to throw. I ended up coaching the other throwers. I went undefeated for 3 years on varsity and placed third in Southern California for my division. I always wonder how much better a thrower I would have been had I had a real coach. In college I was going to be the only shot, discus, javelin thrower but I tore my ACL in my left knee playing college football. I never could throw again.😔

@@aledhughes6000 with you tube, now a days, a kid can find many great throwers and slow down the videos. i would start with Ryan Crouser and copy him in reverse. Also the weight training is huge for this sport.

A surprising amount of gliders. At the California state meet, nearly everybody spun

The sad part about High school Track and field and mostly field is they don't have people that know how to teach shot or discus its mostly volunteer teachers wanting to make a few bucks, if you are a parent you have to take matters into your own hands learn how to do it and seek out help it pays off My son holds the Arizona state HS shotput record and a full ride to VT for shot put

Most highschool coaches aren’t the best teachers for the spin so they teach the glide since it’s easier

Hardest thing to do on Earth? Apparently it is accurately painting lines in HS shot. I bring my own tape to each meet to measure the lines before comp so my kids can know where they are at.

Leave the officials be, they did nothing wrong here and are wildly underpaid. Be happy that you have them there.

Thank you for your comment. We believe the sport needs to change. That change starts with how grassroots competitions are conducted. The front line of competition experience is in the hands of the official.

@@rodhesport7585 I recall a situation in the California State junior college championships where a competitor pulled out a hidden 14lb shot from his training bag and it appeared that he was gonna use it in competition. The officials were checking the shots even in warmups though and confiscated it before he was able to take a title away from a more deserving thrower.
There are good reasons for these rules. Especially at a high stakes meet like this.

    • @rodhesport7585
      @rodhesport7585  3 роки тому +1

@@jelliott8424 We agree those rules are important, but official's feet are not cemented in the ground. They can move to check shot put before they enter the ring. Our point is that officials must work for and around the athletes. If officials are supposed to remain unbiased, then they certainly must conduct themselves in a way that does not impact the results of the performance. If checking ball weights is so very important to them, then there are ways of quarantine implements so they dont need to be checked before every throw. Thanks for the great discusssion!

@@jelliott8424 Not sure about Europe as a whole, but in the UK boys only use the 5kg for Under 17. For Under 20 (ie which include the 18 year olds, they use the 6kg, which is just over 13lbs. Back in my day (early 90s) it was 6.25kg.
