- We visit Perry's old house next to Randall McCoy and John Dils house in Pikeville KY. Randall moved there after the burning of his cabins on New years day. Then on to the Cline cemetery where him and Martha are buried.
Perry Cline was born in 1849 in Mingo County, WV. Though orphaned at a young age, he went on to become a lawyer in addition to a sheriff's deputy in Pikeville, Kentucky. Cline is perhaps best known as one of the key outside forces involved in the Hatfield and McCoy feud, a position made possible by his job and his marriage to Martha McCoy. He also hired the questionable Bad Frank as a bounty hunter.
In the late 1870s, Devil Anse Hatfield got into a land dispute with Randall McCoy's cousin Perry Cline. Anse won the land dispute and was granted Perry's entire 5,000 acre plot of land. The McCoys felt that Anse had used his political connections to influence the court's decision.
Perry was frequently involved in disputes with the Hatfields before eventually serving the arrest warrants for the Hatfield family members who carried out the New Year's Day attack against the McCoys, an action which eventually led to the end of the feud. Perry died in 1891 of tuberculosis, after which he was buried in the Cline Cemetery in Pikeville, KY.
Many people look back at him as a prime instigator and fire to the feud.
I'm not related to the Hatfield or McCoy families but I do find it very interesting to know the history
It is interesting stuff
Probably 2 of the most infamous families in history and most misunderstood at that
I love that these old houses are still in use!!!
They are nice inside
Every town you drive through is just so beautiful and interesting those mountains are so beautiful.
Love going on these treks with you two 😊
Such beautiful country!
I remember a CD used to be available to assist in driving tour of all the feud sites. I’m not certain if the attorney’s office was Perry Cline’s home. Reed Potter would be the person to confirm. ***EDIT. Have confirmed Perry Cline’s house is next to the McCoy house as you stated and on the other side is John Dil’s daughter’s home. The York house. John Dils lived up and across the street.
I thought Perry Cline’s house was torn down at some point. I was watching a lecture on UA-cam at Big Sandy Museum in Pikeville, Kentucky. I really enjoy your channel. The frogs sounded so peaceful while walking around the homes. The cat was “ghost hunting”
Maybe one of his houses was. I'm sure he moved at points. This is supposed to be his house though
The York House was not John Dil’s house. Dils house was across the street and has been gone for years.
My husband was born in 1946 and lived almost his entire 68 years not far from this cemetery and never knew it was there. We visited it after it was brought to the forefront after the TV series. He knew the town like the back of his hand but I don’t believe the cemetery was maintained well or marked.
John Dils house was across the street. Gone long ago. I ran across a picture of it recently.
I'm absolutely addicted to your Channel. I grew up on a horse farm in Southern NJ. There is quite a lot of history there too. Southern NJ was technically below the Mason Dixon Line until the state finally at the last moment before the Civil War started, went with the Yankees.
NJ was also very much a part of the Revolutionary War as well. The people of Southern NJ are very Southern in their thinking as well. I am unable to tell you some things I grew up witnessing on a public forum.
Very interesting! Thanks so much for the support 🙏
Hello Leo and Heather
This might sound stupid but what side of the family are you from mccoy or hatfield i been watching your channel for i little bit i just found you guys i love what your doing keep it up a northern boy.

They sure like those Cemeteries on the Biggest Hills.
Haha yes
😂 that’s all we got
Flat land was to valuable.
I hope y'all ain't Clines or McCoys but no offense intended Perry Clone was a crooked lawyer like most of them still are. No offense.
No offense taken, we know he was, thank you for checking the video out
People are not responsible for the sins of their ancestors. We all have some nefarious no good ancestor in our closet.
Perry Cline is who kept the fued going he was Randall McCoy's cousin I met an ancestor of Randall McCoy at Dollywood and she and I talked about Perry Cline
Bubba the squirl ! Like the video
Thanks 😂 it was a massive squirrel 🐿️
Greetings from Greenville, Augusta County, Virginia Leo & Heather! Have y'all ever considered doing a segment on the creation of Shenandoah National Park, and the displacement of for example a certain affected family or perhaps a collaboration of videos that pertain to creation of the park and the families in general? If anyone should do this,I can't think of any other 2 better people than Leo & Heather! Especially being as you two don't hide or shade the truth to reveal the facts, and with this subject....well the Appalachian people got done dirty,to say it nicely. I was curious enough to just ask y'all. Blessings!😊
we would love to do that, we just started less than a year ago so we will get to many things in time =)
Thank you, for a very informative video. This is the second or third
video of yours that I have seen. Please correct me if I am mistaken,
but those older country cemeteries, from what I can tell, not many people could afford a regular headstone, if I may express myself that way. It seems that a lot of people could only make do with
a flat rock as a headstone, or a
very, very small headstone. There
were probably no written records
kept of grave locations, so people had to rely on memory alone to know where a particular grave was
located in a cemetery. Or am I mistaken? Thank you again.
Yes your very correct. Some were poor and some were buried fast because of illness or things like Spanish flu etc. We have a family cemetery that is missing headstones. People do the best they can you are correct. I guess we are just pointing it out not judging it. Though maybe it sounds like that at times. I will be more mindful going forward on how we explain that just in case. Thanks for the message 😊
@@thehillbillyfiles You are welcome. Thank you very much for getting back to me. You do not sound like you are being judgmental, so I would not worry.
I really like how you all explain things. May I ask, and please do not
be offended, but when that cemetery was moved, do you think there is a slight chance that Asa's and Martha's graves were missed, and they may still be in original location?
@@michaelbedinger4121 Awesome question I would like to know more about.
My grandma had 4 babies that died same day born or within one year of birth. They didn’t have money for Headstone. Many, many years later when all her children had grown and moved away she hand made quilts to buy a long flat polished granite stone with each child’s first name, date of birth and death. 😞 so sad.
@Sue Cox Very sad indeed 😢. When I hear accounts like your Grandmother's, I try to appreciate what I have in my life, and not complain. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
Rannel was a good guy I bet but Perry Cline was a lawyer. Never seen a good lawyer. Most are scoundrels.
This is how I’m related to the McCoys!
very cool! Its fun to visit our history =)
Oh wow can you please fill me in on your heritage? My neighbor is a Hatfield and he does not follow his heritage.
Rain seems to follow you into the cemetery alot
It does
It's like those buried there,are weeping 😢 😭 😿
How often do y'all have to replace windshield wipers lol 😂?
haha
Remember don't pass off Bubba he shot the jukebox last night
😂😂
Great videos guys keeping coming
Behind Perry Kline‘s House that’s an old carriage House, and horse stable
McCoy's was burnt down ?
where are the McCoy sons buried ??? appreciate the videos by the way...
The three McCoy boys are at what they call the forbidden cemetery. We show it in the video called new years day murders
@@thehillbillyfiles If the McCoy Boys had been tried in Kentucky do you think death would have been their fate just the same?
Can you not go inside .?
It's a attorney office
So it's as if the rich secret society piles was after the poor non pagans 4 there is always more 2 these stories.
Sally died in Lexington
I can't find that info. Can you share your source
