As Dorothy so eloquently put it. There's no place like home.
My brother was my Mother's only Son and he was her favorite. He was a Momma's boy and we 4 sisters knew it but we didn't mind. We protected and fought for him because he was the only boy. He died 2 years ago of Lung Cancer. We miss him dearly but my Mom was there waiting for her baby boy so we take comfort in that.

I said the same thing, Dorinda. We sold our family house when Mommy died in 2019. The owner is a local doctor and he’s rented it for three years. My neighbor told me the young family has moved closer to Chapmanville and I told her I would move back home tomorrow if I could. I’ve lived and worked in NYC for many years but there is no place like home. I grew up at Omar in Logan County. ❤

Just tripped over this channel somehow. I love it.. I’m a Hatfield myself.. My grand father “Millard Hatfield “ married “Lucille Fetty “ from West Virginia.. My sister did a genealogy family tree on us and we are supposedly related to Devil Ance.. I’m in Somerset Ky and she’s in New York.. I love the history of our name. BUT with all that being said.. it’s a shame I live in Somerset Ky and have never travelled to Eastern Ky to see any of these places you all show on your channel.. So thank you so much for all your time and effort into doing these videos!! Hopefully one day soon I will make it over. Y’all stay blessed!!

Cap is buried in a beautiful place. In the woods with wildlife all around with a great view. I like chickens so I would be pleased to lay down in a place like that when my time comes. The other video about the cemetery you said was very sad. My family had a farm and when my dad and his partner bought a farm named shawnee village. It has a old cemetery on it the people before us had moved all most all the markers. A few was left when we got it dad never tried to farm it because he had respect for the people there and the family. It's listed as a lost cemetery in find a grave. I remember seeing a few with the death date in the 1820. John murrell also used it as one of his hq. And 2 if his gang is buried there. I found the names and a short story about the brothers. They was in murrells gang and after holding up a riverboat at shawnee village landing. They all got drunk and the brothers got in a fight with other gang members and were killed. Mark Twain wrote about how bad shawnee village Arkansas was and it was best not to go by there in the 1820s.

The house property is very pretty I think from what I could see the flowers were daffodils. Cap was certainly very lucky after getting shot in the gut that he survived. back then majority of gut shots were fatal. Very interesting pretty cemetery. How did they ever get caskets up the hills. Leo it didn't rain this time & you didn't end up in a briar patch fighting off the pricker bushes but you sure did have to climb up a steep hill 😁 you're getting good at it.

It also shows that even though people had slaves they still respected them by giving them a beautiful resting place and they weren't forgotten about. I was born and raised in Arkansas. You sound like my kinda folks. The stuff about the feud is fascinating. It’s hard to imagine that much hatred between the two families. I’ve seen the mini-series with Kevin Costner, but other than that I don’t know much about the whole thing. I believe that it’s important to keep up with the history and Im proud of what you’re doing to educate people. WV and KY look beautiful. I would love to see more of your home.

@@thehillbillyfiles very welcome. Its so nice that the family let you go in to the cemetery. It was epic. Just a thought as special as it was, a thankyou card may be in order.

Excellent videos of all the Hatfield-McCoy history, property, etc. I'm curious about what happened to Cap Hatfield's home. The land around it's location is beautiful, and it made us wonder if the house was demolished or lost to age. Wouldn't that be a great place to visit?

I don't understand how you can own a grave yard it's like a river or ocean, but with that said I can understand being respectful and not leaving garbage or disturbing things ...

These cemeteries were started as family cemeteries on family property. They were never turned over to local authorities and remain private property.

Just subscribed. I grew up around West Virginia and the Virginia state line. Giles County, Virginia...beautiful mountains, creeks and rivers. Lots of kin folk from both states. Edit: I can't tell if you're pointing at the forsythia bushes or the daffodils. Both are beautiful.

I so miss the WV hills; transplanted to AZ which has its own beauty-but nothing close to WV 🥰
