@@BisscuteReacts What's up is one of the most famous songs in the early 90's even in my country (Italy) where rock isn't listened to much (unfortunately)
Yes, but hardly anyone actually remembers the actual title-that's what throws many people off. Nowhere in the lyrics does she actually say "What's Up?".
@@jessieball6195 Alt. Rock bands in the 90's were big on not saying song titles in the lyrics. It's why I like a ton of Stone Temple Pilots songs and can probably only name two-thirds of them, at best.
Linda Perry was a fantastic singer, but her passion is writing songs. She's received several awards for her songs. The whole album was good, not just this song,
Oh, hell yeah! Good song! These guys were a one hit wonder, but the lead singer, Linda Perry, went on to be a very successful song writer that's written songs for Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, and others.
This recording has featured in at least a dozen movies, and various covers of it have been it twice as many movies. It was EVERYWHERE for about a decade after it's release.
The reason 4 Non Blondes were a one hit wonder is because when this song was a hit the band and record company wanted the same kind of songs and sound for the second album. Lind Perry, the singer who also wrote the songs refused. She wanted to do something new and different and when the band wanted to do more of the same, she just walked away. Without her the band broke up and she went on to an even more successful career as a songwriter and producer. Another "one hit wonder" with a similar story was the New Radicals who had a big hit with You Get What You Give. Again, the lead singer and song writer, Gregg Alexander didn't want to deal with the demands of touring and the record company so he just walked away to write and produce for others including the song The Game of Love for Santana and Michelle Branch and the Acadamy Award nominated song Lost Stars from the film Begin Again.
Probably one of the most enduring songs of all time, not only because it’s simply a great piece but every one in every generation can identify with the message of the lyrics🎶🎶🎶🎶
Ironically, 4 Non Blondes kind of hung around in the "underground" (kind of popular "bar band") for a while, then had this one come out.... pretty much their ONLY real big hit.... and had massive airplay and video rotation on MTV. Then, they just sort of faded and became an after thought, even though for a few years almost EVERYONE knew this song for one reason or another. Couldn't go anywhere without hearing it, or people singing it when it played.
The part you recognized was very heavily featured in the Netflix series Sense 8, and I don't doubt that was featured plenty of other shows/media (although my brain doesn't really remember what/when).
One hit wonder, still a great song. Brings me back a lot of years ago. Time flies. This song of their ( i believe only) album was brought out in I believe 1993. love the fact it's a girlsband.
They were a unique 90s grunge-ish band. Big uniqueness: all-women. The only other all-female band around this time that comes to mind is Luscious Jackson (awesome - check out Naked Mind, Take a Ride, Sexy Hypnotist, Beloved), and maybe the 2-woman group Cibo Matto (their album Stereo-Type A is just great). I saw LJ and and Yuka Honda from CM at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in Washington, DC in 1998. Other bands had/have awesome female leads in vocals (Garbage), as well as on instrumentals (Veruca Salt - their Eight Arms to Hold You By album was classic, and while Volcano Grils and The Morning Sad get a lot of credit, I think Earthcrosser is the best on a great LP). These were the 90s version (and beyond) of their trailblazers like Heart, The Runaways, The Go-Gos, The Bangles, etc. Absolutely love your reactions. Keep the reviews coming!
A good one hit wonder band. After leaving the band the lead singer has produced albums for Pink, Cristina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani with great success. She is currently workinf as a producer for Sony BMG and Universal Music Group. Great song...!!!
I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio, around 1993. I was closing at a fast food joint on a Saturday night and my older sister came to pick me up, it was around 1 in the morning. We're driving home and this came on the radio. We listened to it without saying anything, and as soon as it was over we both looked at each other and busted out laughing.
Funny you thought a dude sang this song. Back in 1996 I was playing a small pub in New Hampshire with my Thrash Metal band and as soon as wewrapped our set they cut directly to Karaoke. The first song covered was a slightly pudgy guy in his early 20's singing this song and he absolutely NAILED it. Perfect pitch and inflection. We were MESMERIZED.
They were huge on college and alternative radio stations in the mid 90’s. A lot of people were waiting for a follow up album that never came, living in a pre-Google world left a lot of unanswered questions. Considering how much Linda Perry has contributed as a writer and producer, it still surprises me that she never recorded her own material again after that one album.
She's a songwriter who prefers to rake in the big bucks behind the scenes instead of putting up with the hassles of touring, performing, making videos, doing interviews etc... much like Diane Warren. I personally don't blame her.
@@jonlate4581 there was a story I heard back then on the radio that she had developed a kind of stage fright, that she enjoyed performing in front of a small intimate audience, but grew increasingly uncomfortable on stage as the audiences grew larger, so she stopped touring and started working behind the scenes. At some point I did Google it, that wasn’t in anything I could find online, rumors.
There are a few songs I like from the 90's and this was definitely one of them. Other tunes I like from that decade are, "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" cover version by The Crash Test Dummies. "I Know" by Dionne Farris. "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" covered by The Barenaked Ladies. "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young. "Take It Back" by Pink Floyd. "Rumble in Brighton" by Brian Setzer. "Jump, Jive and Wail" by Setzer. "You're the Boss" by Setzer (with Gwen Stefani). "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring. "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles. "Praying For Time" by George Micheal. "Fading Like a Flower" by Roxette. "Turn the Beat Around" by Gloria Estefan. "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex. "Unchained Melody" cover by LeAnn Rimes. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith. "One Week" by BNL. "Ray of Light" by Madonna. "Breathe" by Faith Hill. "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin. "Scar Tissue" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega. "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Nevertheless, I will always be a die hard fan of the 60's and 70's music era.
Her voice is so incredible on this song...1.6B for billion views!...that I don't understand how she didn't become a bigger singing star. In the Songwriters HOF though. Fun fact: title is 'What's Up' but "what's goin' on" is what she sings throughout the song.🎶🔥🤘
The singer, Linda Perry also become famous for writing songs to another artists. She wrote the song Beautiful, performed by Christina Aguilera, for example. Amazing reaction as always.
I've heard them many times. This is also a band that my son used to listen to as a kid. That's true, I haven't heard this in at least 5-10 years. Have a beautiful day and take care my dear.
I would recommend 'Georgy Girl', 'The Carnival is Over', 'World Of Our Own', ' When Will The Good Apples Fall', 'Morningtown Ride', 'I'll Never Find Another You', 'Walk With Me', 'Island Of Dreams', 'Colours Of My Life', 'Some Day One Day', 'California Dreamin', 'Well, Well, Well', etc... The list goes on but some others are more covers of other people's songs like the last one on my list and songs like 'Yesterday', 'Danny Boy' plus many Folk songs too. I hope you get a chance to listen and if so would be very interested in hearing your opinion to them as I still listen to them regularly too and adore her voice is is just so beautiful. Xxx
Even though you had already heard snippets of this song, it was clear you still felt the spirit of it. A great track that always lifts me up and puts me in a good mood.
Hi Bisscute, yes in answer to your question, they were a 1 hit wonder over here in the UK but not sure about the rest of Europe or the USA as believe they released more over in America. Yes it is a real shame too as that song was absolutely amazing and so wonderfully sung too. I absolutely love this track and always have too and still really enjoy listening to it also and so still play it periodically even now. So glad you reviewed it as was from a fantastic time in musical history too, despite not being as epic a time period as the 60's yet nothing can really beat then! BTW have you reviewed any hits by The Seekers from the 1960's, I only ask as you liked her voice as per your comments so I think you will really enjoy listening to the Melodic Harmonies of Judith Durham alongside the other members of the Seekers too xxx
I'm 12-13 years older than you. First saw this group on the _Alex Bennet Show_ in San Francisco in '90 or '91. Imagine 14 people crammed into a 10'x10' radio studio room, with a giant control console filling half the room...
I think many artist build up a repertoire of songs before they become famous. Artists have only so many songs in them so if you write for others there will be less for one self.
Though, to be fair, this song probably has far more views than any other song she wrote for anyone else (at 1.7B roughly.) If you are only going to have one hit, might as well make it a huge one.
This is from a completely different planet than her career as a producer. 4 non-blondes had played for years in clubs and bars, had a huge hit with their first album, but disbanded shortly afterwards. Linda pursued a solo career for the next decade or so which never took off. Her career as a producer started when Pink who was a fan and wanted to give her career a new direction, contacted and actually moved in with her for a while. That worked out great for both.
Очень хорошая песня! И приятно, что её исполняет такая девушка! Необыкновенная! Неподражаемая! Браво! Ведущая провела хороший репортаж и выглядит необычно в новом интерьере! Красиво!❤
What a great song! The first time I heard it was in the netflix show Sense8. They used it to great effect to bring even more emotion to some powerful scenes. I have loved it ever since. Her voice is incredible! While Im happy she is succesful as a songwriter, I wish they had a larger catalog to showcase her powerful vocals.

Dolly Parton released a cover of What’s Up featuring Linda Perry (lead singer of 4 Non Blondes) from her newest album Rockstar. Really good. Something worth checking out.
This song was insanely popular when it came out. I remember hearing it all the time on MTV and the radio, and I really hoped that they would’ve been more successful than they were.
This song was stuck in my head all morning and when I looked at my phone a saw that you were reacting to it very strange 😕 what's going on 😮! Great response about her voice 👏
A one hit wonder for sure. One of my favorites in that category, mostly bc of the singer's voice. So powerful! And the lead singer is actually a very talented song writer. She has written songs for many big artists.
The 4 Non Blondes was one of my Faforites back in the 90s but there are more to figurit out ot 90s music i would love to see more. Thank you for that video. I was also a Fan of the Cranberries, Alanis Morrisett.
I saw 4 Non Blondes in a club in San Francisco and was very fortunate to see Linda Perry ( the singer) perform a solo acoustic set also in San Francisco 🎶🎶🎶 Could you react to THE WARNING at the 2023 MTV VMAs
Very strong women's empowerment song... When you dig into the lyric. Dolly Parton included a cover/duet with Linda Perry, the lead singer, on her lastest album. I love that another generation of women are hearing this.❤❤❤❤
@@flerbus triggered much? She speaks to finding out that world is made up of this "Brotherhood of MAN?"... and of "Praying for a Revolution"... To me personally lends itself to the empowerment of women. That my friend is what makes music beautiful... It can be Universal and personal at the exact same time. Enjoy.
Great Reaction Bisscute! I’m wondering if maybe you heard Ariana Grandes Put Up Your Hearts! I believe Linda Perry wrote and produced this for Ariana! 2015! Hopefully Ariana fans can explain more! I was a fan of Victorious so I know a little bit about this! As for What’s Up I was living in Austin when this video was made if I remember correctly it was shot in Austin, Texas! 🎸🙏🏻
Oh Yess!!! This brings me back wonderful memories...makes me smile real big. Great song but a one-hit wonder for the band. The lead singer, Linda Perry, went to be become a very success music producer and songwriter. She's written for the likes of Katy Perry, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Adele and many others. Love the Reaction Biss!
every one heard this song or the iconick parts like the gitar solo or the wats goin on part at least ones in ther life, its an iconic song and a classic in my opinion
Speaking of blondes, you need to get on Concrete Blonde, a hella' great band that would probably have you going down the rabbit hole. Joey is one o ftheir more famous songs, and Lohnette's voice, for me, is the best I've ever heard....that woman can sing.
Love this song. This is really the only song i know of there's tough. I think it would be great to check out The Warning again. Another great female band. I think Evolve live from MTV VMA awards would be a good one 🤟🏽
OMG! I love you bisscute. Thank you for reacting to this song. It's so nostalgic and it makes me want to be a kid again just so that I can have the 90's back. I really miss that decade era. Another really good 90's song that gets me nostalgic is the song "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden. You should check it out if you haven't.
Now I'm told you're Romanian. Well Glad to know that and sorry for my mistake. And as for getting in touch, I'm too far from being well-read on internet technology to know how exactly to do that.
2:14 😆❤ Lovely Bisscute once again hitting us with another classic and this time from 90's Although for me this song it's a one hit wonder, later Linda Perry was behind the production of many super stars such Christina Aguilera, PINK and Gwen Stefani among other great artists. She definitely know the business.😎👍
I was just waiting for the " I know this " This song have been played so many places for so many reasons. But, most dont really know about who, why or where. Its actually really interesting how known this song is. But how unknown everything about it is. Also, want to add. Dont think anyone mind you know a song when you hear it. I find it funny, to see you realize you know them.
One hit wonders, kind of like Crash Test Dummies (Mmm mmm mmm mmm) and Soul Asylum (Runaway Train). I don't say that disparagingly, one hit is still a pretty spectacular achievement. But this was the only song of theirs I ever remember hearing. In thinking about it, there seemed to be quite a few one-hit wonders around then. I'm not sure if that was unusual or just an artifact of the way the mid-90s music industry functioned. Or it could just be an artifact of me being too casual a music-listener, for sure.
I miss the time when people put out videos on a regular basis. MTV and VH1 were all day everyday amazing videos from the best artist and they made the song fit even the craziest lyrics. Great reaction ❤.
This was ❤ A Unique..Odd...But Very...Catchy Songin the 90s....It Became zA Delightful..Unusual...Stand out Anthem.....Idk if This singer made more hits But Is Well known for Contributing her Song Writing Skills for Artist Such as..PINK
Here is a girls band for you Biss it's country but they were awesome "The Dixe Chicks" I am not a big country fan but give them a listen "Wide Open Spaces" is a great song 😊
my ex would sing this one at karaoke nights and absolutely crush it. we would sing a song or two by ourselves then we would join up and sing one together. we were pretty good at hyping up ourselves and each other before we sang together so people would be excited lol
Great song...one hit wonder for sure. Its a shame linda perry didnt want to be a performer because like you said, her voice is amazing. She is a very successful songwriter though, just didnt want the limelight.

This song was insanely popular when it came out. I remember hearing it all the time on MTV and the radio, and I really hoped that they would’ve been more successful than they were.
I always enjoy hearing these one hit wonders because they are so easily forgotten in the sands of time.
Not even got to the song but Linda Perry is an absolute legend. Musical gold dust!
This song was stuck in my head all morning and when I looked at my phone a saw that you were reacting to it very strange 😕 what's going on 😮! Great response about her voice 👏
Linda Perry, one of the greatest female rock voices ever, what range!
A one hit wonder for sure. One of my favorites in that category, mostly bc of the singer's voice. So powerful! And the lead singer is actually a very talented song writer. She has written songs for many big artists.
that whole album is great.
The 4 Non Blondes was one of my Faforites back in the 90s but there are more to figurit out ot 90s music i would love to see more. Thank you for that video. I was also a Fan of the Cranberries, Alanis Morrisett.
this was HUGE back in the Day it was everywhere.....
I saw 4 Non Blondes in a club in San Francisco and was very fortunate to see Linda Perry ( the singer) perform a solo acoustic set also in San Francisco 🎶🎶🎶
Could you react to THE WARNING at the 2023 MTV VMAs
Nice, I’ll keep that in mind for possible future reactions ❤️
I have watched and enjoyed for a while so I finally subbed(I should have way sooner😳). Thanks for all the work you do to bring us this channel!
Nice song. Very unique and skilled voice. Talent with a very Bohemian style. Always a good listen. It will survive for a long while.
I was fortune enough to see Linda Perry at a bar solo.... it was incredible!
Amazing ❤️
That whole album is great !!! I still have it in cassette and CD from the 90's. The good old days when real music was being made. GOOD TIMES !!
Enjoy.
I always got that impression when it was released.
Oh very nice, I was going to request this song. Even if I had to hang with you on Twitch, play every contest to get the chance to request it
Linda Perry is a songwriting beast! 💖
Thank you, glad you loved the reaction ❤️
A perfect song for the 90's... It remembered a lot of things from my youth, amazing!!!
Glad you liked it ❤️
every one heard this song or the iconick parts like the gitar solo or the wats goin on part at least ones in ther life, its an iconic song and a classic in my opinion
Beautiful song from the past, have not heard it in a long long time. Great!
Glad you liked it ❤️
Speaking of blondes, you need to get on Concrete Blonde, a hella' great band that would probably have you going down the rabbit hole.
I still think that Bisscute would really enjoy 10,000 maniacs (Natalie Merchant) and as bonus, one hit wonder... Fade Into You, by Mazzy Star!
very good, we enjoy your emotions and how you get into your music
love to love, ufo, show me how much you love to love, maybe a special twitch show for that one
Their follow up song is spaceman, I like that one too. And it has a nice video.
Oh? Might check it out someday ❤️
She is a interesting person. She is also a prolific song writer who has written several hits for other stars.
Ah, the emblematic song of the 90's! P!nk did a powerful live reprise. It was also used in the TV miniseries Sense by the Wachowskis
SENSE8
@@treetopjones737 Right!
Without any doubt at all one of my favourite songs from the nineties, could have it on repeat for hours and not be bored.
I wouldn't be surprised if you heard a version of this song in a movie or tv soundtrack, it's been used many times.
Iv heard it from the He-man meme/version ❤️
I love LOVE your russian accent and the way you roll your R s. I enjoy listening to your comments. Great job!
Bisscute is Romanian.
Now I'm told you're Romanian. Well Glad to know that and sorry for my mistake. And as for getting in touch, I'm too far from being well-read on internet technology to know how exactly to do that.
I love at 5:57 how she looks up then straight at the camera. It's cute. Like she's singing directly to you.
2:14 😆❤
Lovely Bisscute once again hitting us with another classic and this time from 90's
Although for me this song it's a one hit wonder, later Linda Perry was behind the production of many super stars such Christina Aguilera, PINK and Gwen Stefani among other great artists. She definitely know the business.😎👍
Haha thank you, glad you enjoyed this ❤️
I was just waiting for the " I know this "
This song have been played so many places for so many reasons.
But, most dont really know about who, why or where.
Its actually really interesting how known this song is. But how unknown everything about it is.
Also, want to add. Dont think anyone mind you know a song when you hear it.
I find it funny, to see you realize you know them.
Haha some people do mind but I always make sure to tell people I recognize the song if I do. I recognize that part from the He-Man version ❤️
Oh I see, thanks ❤️
I miss the time when people put out videos on a regular basis. MTV and VH1 were all day everyday amazing videos from the best artist and they made the song fit even the craziest lyrics. Great reaction ❤.
HELLO from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 🇺🇸😎
This was ❤ A Unique..Odd...But Very...Catchy Songin the 90s....It Became zA Delightful..Unusual...Stand out Anthem.....Idk if This singer made more hits But Is Well known for Contributing her Song Writing Skills for Artist Such as..PINK
Thanks for watching ❤️
2:13 lollll 😂😂😂😂
Great song, have some fond memories attached to it. Great reaction!
Thank you so much ❤️
Here is a girls band for you Biss it's country but they were awesome "The Dixe Chicks" I am not a big country fan but give them a listen "Wide Open Spaces" is a great song 😊
Great choice! I really enjoy your reactions. I love your accent and when you roll the letter “R”. 🙂
Thank you so much ❤️
my ex would sing this one at karaoke nights and absolutely crush it. we would sing a song or two by ourselves then we would join up and sing one together. we were pretty good at hyping up ourselves and each other before we sang together so people would be excited lol
She is actually a huge name in Music these days. She is one of the biggest producer is there is music.❤❤
I really was waiting for your legendary: "I don't know if I know the song" - instead we got a (biss)cute vocal performance 😃👍
Haha glad you enjoyed it ❤️
WOW,I have not heard this song in years!
Linda Perry has that iconic voice.
Great song...one hit wonder for sure. Its a shame linda perry didnt want to be a performer because like you said, her voice is amazing. She is a very successful songwriter though, just didnt want the limelight.
Yeah she was amazing ❤️
I've never heard of them but I really liked the song .I've it before but it was only the chorus and it was Aman who sang it.ty miss biss for a spot on 1st reaction and please for all of Biss Nation keep the music coming.❤🥁😋🤗👋👌
Thank you so much ❤️
This girl (Biscuit) has a really fine musical ear.
Renewed interest in the song came from tv show SENSE8.
