FYI: There is a random roguelike playmode in the game where you start in your home container and random containers keep coming until you die. It unlocks after level 3 I believe. Also worth mentioning is the awesome bluegrass music track and the story about how the commander has told his family he's safe in an office far away so they don't worry, he even gets nice DAD drawings from his kids :) And the curse button is there because cargo handlers in harbours have a tendency to swear A LOT :)
A spot on first impression missing one really important feature of the game though, the scroll wheel which allows you to zoom out to get an overview of the whole cargo container or all of the cargo containers. It really adds a new dimension to the gameplay.
What I think i like the most out of this game is the ability to break the environment that you can use and manipulate to your needs. That and as the same place you once controlled begins to break down, you also must navigate a stage that is decaying. I will make a point to pick this up.
I really love your videos, because they are a comprehensive look at a game in a critical and not fanboy-istical way. Keep up the good work like your care for your tophat collection, which exists, I would assume.^^ (I apologize for grammatical issues, if there are any.)
You can scroll the mouse wheel to zoom in and out by a large amount... I usually play zoomed out quite a bit so that I can see where all the cargo containers are.
I know this probably isn't an accurate statement, but it almost seems like this is the Minecraft game of the platforming world.. sort of. What I mean by that is, that the core game is there, and seems to be able to support a great many ideas if implemented correctly, such as mods in Minecraft nowadays. Modding this game, to have an insane amount more different cargo, weapons, enemy varriety, etc. while including crafting possibly. Mods could do for this, what they did for minecraft.
TB: You speak of a board game called Galaxy Trucker. Think a mix of cargo gathering, ship building, and FTL. And yes, that game absolutely needs to be built.
Continued: That's not to say that there are a lot of great indie games, as XBLA and Steam Greenlight will show you. And there are a lot of indie games that TB shoots down like Ace of Spades, Burn Zombies Burn, Talisman Prologue (which was based on a game he likes), WarZ (for obvious reasons), and others. He also did praise a lot of high-budget games like Spec Ops: The Line, Rage, Borderlands 2, Brink, Saints Row the Third and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.
you also have to take the differences in budgets into account . i think being more critical if the games budget is sky high. he just said the game was a good time.
I've had it for a while. If you like 2D platforming, it's a lot of fun, and even after a while I can still hop on and play for 10 or 20 minute chunks and enjoy it.
The game's a lot of fun but a whole lot easier if one zooms the view out to see where the containers are and the whole content of the one that you're currently in.
well it depends.. if you are going to sit farther away then a 32" plus TV is a good idea, but if your going to be sitting 1 to 3 ft away then you probably would want a monitor, as they are better suited for reading text.
i think you are my new favorite...game reviewer? i really like how you explain everything. just wish i had seen your WTF is Far Cry 3 video, before i bought the damned game.
I'd realy be interested in the rouge like crafting version of this game TB suggested - as it the game looks interesting yet would benefit greatly from some fleshing out in places.
You are right in all aspects but one: He always says that he only does "first impressions", nevertheless I consider them as reviews. He always has played the game for several hours already when he does his videos. But I agree on all other aspects of your post.
Actually he does review games, he said so himself at the beginning of his "WTF is Nimbus" video. He said "What I tend to do with those donations is save them up and use them to buy games, which I can then actually review and give you back for". But you're right in that he's not paid but he says whatever he thinks about the game, whether it's good or bad.
Honestly, this is one I'm wanting. I know he doesn't take requests, but because this game is so love-it/hate-it, I'd be interested to hear TB's opinion on it... if he can get it to work correctly, that is.
I just bought this on the steam sale, my heart began to pump when the wormhole opened and i just barely got home before dieing by horrible mutants, Truly epic game
You can zoom out TB. Please zoom out you can see more and it's less disorienting. My bro got this game and said it was really good, watched him play and it wasn't so close..
What resolution do you have on your screen? Or do you ever make the video 'larger' on the screen? On my rather large scree, watching in 240p, means that the video is 'stretched' in a way.
If you want a more extensive view of this game check out 'First 40 - Cargo Commander', it shows the game much more extensively and actually plays at the right level of zoom. No offense to TB, but this just isn't a solid preview.
I agree That the high budgets are harder reviewed. I usually take the bigger game reviews with a grain of salt, they are massive budget games meaning they deserve harsher reviews, they are expected to be much better, you're paying $60 This is a $10 small studio game, as far as $10 games go this is really well put together and he rewards that but he gives smaller games some slack. If you watch his channel besides WTFis you know he prefers strange indie games, if it's not you're thing steer clear
Oh fellow Cargo Commanders, I'm turning on through TB's video because I'm really desperate. I missing one last type of cargo, have no sector scans left and don't want to reset game whole progress for it, so if someone can write me name of sector which holds the third type of painting (already have haunted and newtonian painting) i would be endlessly grateful. Thanks for help and thanks to TB for having this show which showed me many great games i wouldn't normally buy
He's said before that he is more critical of AAA games because there is more budget and work put into them, so they deserve a more detailed critique. It's not because of any particular spite towards them.
that video is two years old -.- read his channel description, especially the part where he explains the wtf is. "WTF is? - A first impressions series, recorded blind, live and focusing on indie titles." It's a first impressions and not a review.
tb there is a zoom out using scroll wheel to help

I'm glad to see TB back doing his usual content.
TB you can zoom out the view so that you can see much more on the screen.
You can zoom out/in with the mousewheel
Quick hint, navigating the containers tends to be easier if you zoom out a bit.
I think a minimap could have been helpful. Im impressed you are able to find your way back so quickly.
I know this probably isn't an accurate statement, but it almost seems like this is the Minecraft game of the platforming world.. sort of. TB: You speak of a board game called Galaxy Trucker. Think a mix of cargo gathering, ship building, and FTL. And yes, that game absolutely needs to be built.
Its on sale right now on steam. Its a surprisingly good game aside from some camera angle trips and cargo entrance oddities
Continued: That's not to say that there are a lot of great indie games, as XBLA and Steam Greenlight will show you. When I heard the title I was hoping for the sequel of Cargo: The Quest for Gravity.
You might not see the difference if you don't have a large screen to support the resolution. Plus an HD card makes it look even better.
Thank you, TB. It was an enjoyable video as always.
hey if you just hold down Ctrl and scroll in a couple times the screen goes back to the center
how do you go for realistic in a game where you go from box to box in space collecting cargo by shooting nails from a gun attached to your hand?
Even years later, i get reviews for games i see on discount.
you also have to take the differences in budgets into account . i think being more critical if the games budget is sky high. he just said the game was a good time.
I've had it for a while. If you like 2D platforming, it's a lot of fun, and even after a while I can still hop on and play for 10 or 20 minute chunks and enjoy it.
It's still nice when my computer wakes up and decides to let me watch everything on UA-cam at 1080p with no problems, though.
well there is a big difference from 720 to 240
240 you cant read fine print in video and 720 everything can be seen
The game's a lot of fun but a whole lot easier if one zooms the view out to see where the containers are and the whole content of the one that you're currently in.
You can get this right now as part of the Indie Royale Bundle, along with Pid and some others.
well it depends.. if you are going to sit farther away then a 32" plus TV is a good idea, but if your going to be sitting 1 to 3 ft away then you probably would want a monitor, as they are better suited for reading text.
There is a mini map, all you do is use the mouse scroll (up/down)
there's a phenomenal difference between 240p and 480p literally a doubling on the amount of pixels showing on the video.
1,74 euro on steam now, it's really a fun game and always a surprise what you will find next with those random containers. lots of replay ability
We come to this channel for this guy...I love his charisma:)....so you sir is in the wrong place
With the Cargo Commander setting and box-attraction thing.

i really liked the art style to this game.
I'm pretty sure you can zoom out in this game...
I'd realy be interested in the rouge like crafting version of this game TB suggested - as it the game looks interesting yet would benefit greatly from some fleshing out in places.
he said he would try but it doesn't seem like he did. Makes sense considering so many people already know about it.
no it happens with everyones videos if they go straight to upload. Some people on YT keep a video private for a bit then put the video to public
zoom out, there, minimap, and there is a rouge like mode unlocked after a while.
crafting would make it 10x better though.
no there are many ways to write the name of the elder
btw its just a reference
Haven't watched the whole video, but I hope he realises he can zoom out A LOT further. That makes it an entirely different game.
Talking about starbound, I hope TB and another member of the TGS will do a LP of it :D
Not to mention that high budget games are usually sold around 60$ and indie games around 30$ if it's not 15$.
I played XIII on the GameCube and it was amazing :)
Thanks for reminding me of it.
And ears the soundquality changes too :D
for anyone wondering, yes, you can zoom out
how can you win this game?
Clearly, people cannot have their preferences, else they're not individuals - merely a mindless horde! Truly, you have enlightened us, good sir.
TB if you ever go playing lol again, get the Mastery: Biscuiteer in the Utility tree, then when you go into a match check the name of the Biscuit.
you do know you can zoom out right?
would explain why it's so many, many months between episodes
You are right in all aspects but one: He always says that he only does "first impressions", nevertheless I consider them as reviews. He always has played the game for several hours already when he does his videos. But I agree on all other aspects of your post.
By any chance, did you pick the cthulhu sector? I remember the rotating room in the 2nd summoned cargo
Oh TB, if only you knew about Journey mode while playing this.
Survival to the end!
Somehow missed this WTF is when it came out. Picked it up on the sale and I love it, I can heartily recommend it!
In lieu of the minimap, you can just scroll out and basically see everything there is to see in space.
Just so you know when you get far enough you can unlock a mode where you have no Home and just go from container to container.
I appreciate that you didn't just write "LOL YOU STUPIDZ TB", but actually explained your opinion. God on ya.

I just bought this on the steam sale, my heart began to pump when the wormhole opened and i just barely got home before dieing by horrible mutants, Truly epic game
TB nailed it, this game should of been a rogue like game.
With better crafting and a mini map would help alot.
I wish TB could do a WTF is for the "Mighty Quest for Epic Loot" game. That would be amazing... its like Dungeon Keeper meets modern online PvP.
o.o Something must be wrong on your end.Difference between 240p and 720p is absolutely huge.
You can zoom out TB. Please zoom out you can see more and it's less disorienting. My bro got this game and said it was really good, watched him play and it wasn't so close..
could you name a couple of examples?
one day TB will learn that the blue boxes dont need to be shot
for him a game is a art gallery.
What resolution do you have on your screen? Or do you ever make the video 'larger' on the screen? On my rather large scree, watching in 240p, means that the video is 'stretched' in a way.
man... we miss him
Got it in the autumn sale. I love it :).
It makes a diffrence if you watch it with fullscreen

Aww hes trying to troll!
Keep at it little buddy, you will get there in time!

two WTF?!?'s in one day. Very well done TB.
Welcome back, Sum Cookie
Why is he Zoomed in?
one thing tb missed is that you can scroll the view aaaaall the way back tot he point you can barely see your guy
