Hello everybody! What an ace review from the Biscuit. If anyone is interested: - You get transfer points for scoring points. Each transfer point costs more score than the last, so hoarding up all 10 is quite tricky. - Shooting lots of droids in quick succession raises the score multiplier but at x10 you'll get a RED ALERT - The droids that have MULTICORE brains are the ones that actively seek the enemy. DUALCORE brains just patrol and chase visible targets.
it's an amazingly deep and fun tactical shoot-em-up... I have logged a few hundred hours on this particular PuppyGames project, and not regretted a moment of it. I've also played Paradroid, which is also quite a lot of fun -- but not as fun as this!
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish UA-cam would stop making me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos or so. when did they implement this new annoyance?)
Fun fact, this video is from the 11th. UA-cam likes to stack actions on a particular video no matter how far apart, what it was telling you was he added it to the playlist three hours ago.
I actually remember TB mentioning Northernlion at least once when he was listing other game reviewers. I think they both have some interesting things to say about games, and Northernlion has an amazing voice (plus our game preferences match up pretty closely). I think I partake of his content more often than I do TB's, since it is usually quite entertaining. TB is definitely more professional and knowledgeable when it comes to the gaming industry, though.
Oooooh man I never thought of this. That sounds awesome. Different factions in this graphic style, the Droids, The Aliens, the Titans, the Humans. Building all these cool looking building for their units and defenses. I would buy the shit out of that.
Not all droids have the same AI, it's depending on their "multicore", "single core" stats. That's why grabbing those you know have multicores (even though their weaponry might be basic) is useful in order to have an army at least looking for the enemy.
When I first heard TB say this was a pixelart game I was like: "*groan* another game that's suppose to be a "throwback" to someone's childhood by looking like a Atari game" but I'm pleased to see that this actually looks good.
Yeah but it was also worked on by the devs. I mean i played this a year or so ago and i totally didn't recognise the gameplay. It used to be 1 kill = 1 transfer point and your robots would always insta die in the level. And they wouldn't be repaired at the end of it. Not the case anymore. Plus all the new effects. it's pretty great.
14:44 I think that droid was incapable of destroying the armored turret so it was staying out of the battle. Having them wait nearby is better than them getting themselves killed for no reason.
I agree that there is little value in going higher than your native desktop resolution, and since the graphics scale (I assume) the only value in going to a lower resolution would be performance but with such a lightweight game, performance is unlikely to be an issue. However, (I assume your game is written in Java since you wrote LWJGL) you can increase the resolution beyond the current desktop resolution using full screen exclusive mode, but it will probably lose portability by doing so.
tb just a bit of constructive criticism I've recently gotten a new pair high def headphones, and while this the sound quality is amazing i can hear a slightly metallic noise from your mic now. It's not a big issue but with headphones and speakers being improved as they are you may want to consider a higher grade mic or mesh cover
I really like Puppy Games, and this game looks good. I really like the dynamic shadow movement they have going on here, how the sight-lines are clearly delineated. That being said, the screen twitching thing they do when you switch from droid to droid sorta gives me a headache. Is that something you can disable?
Puppygames uses a very unique art style and presentation. So most of their games look pretty similar. Thankfully despite the similar graphics the game-play is vastly different in each one.
It's personal preference. I am subscribed to both of them and I watch videos from both of them quite regularly, and I can't say that TB isn't better, but let's not start a flame war.
I bought this and it IS fun as all hell BUT it has its quirks. I subscribed to the newsletter and NEVER got the code. it never sent to my email, still waiting to hear back from them. then theres also the issue that I can't get back to that menu to enter the code. still cant figure it out
I get the sense, TB, that the game is a very quick win or lose for one side or the other, and because of that really big droid that you got, you pull off the really quick wins reliably and easily. So, consider that a double-recommendation that people avoid signing up for the newsletter.
Hey TB an idea you may consider implementing, Suprise game of the month and expected game of the month. A section where you revisit any games you reviewed that relate to the name sake of the title at the end of the month.
As a long-time fan of Paradroid this game is especially awesome for me. It's a little disappointing that there's no trace of the droid transfer mini-game from Paradroid, but it's a still a great game anyway. You said 8 Aussie Dollars, but Steam doesn't trade in Aussie Dollars. It would be more accurate to say "8 US Dollars for Australians." since we don't always have the same prices as the US, but do always have to pay in US Dollars.
I ended up buying this game off steam, it's actually a really good game. Maybe it could do with customization of the droids, but that would change the nature of the game I suppose.
yeah, support those guys, their games are really good (if i remember correctly they were kind of obscure and broke, but caught a financial break with revenge of the titans)
Also... we'd love to do a multiplayer game - in fact we were working on one last year - but we don't have time to make it before we run out of money so we're going to do something completely off-the wall instead. TOP SECRET!
not sure quite how we came up with that name, but it certainly makes it exceedingly easy to Google, which is much more important than pronouncing it for most people.
Well a simple look is often enough for you to see whether it has good video and audio quality, whether it has nicely prepared and formated content and such. So yeah, I was referring to the technical side of things when I said "video quality" - not "whether X video is good or not".
("DON'T SHOOT!" prompt appears over friendly's head) TB: (shoots and kills off friendly) "I think he was friendly". Me: sigh, FACEPALM real hard in the forehead
I know it was from reddit but I swore TB didn't make videos for all of those questions. In fact, he never mentioned that the last one (8th episode) would be the last one.
a lesser know "reviewer" based in Canada, he does a series called Let's Look At: where he shows his subs new indie games. He is most known for his Binding Of Isaac series that consists of over 370 runs and rising.
I don't think TB won't do a video in less than one day. Also TB probably does them when they are released, when they are seen on steam's store page.. And what difference does it make. You get NOT ONE BUT 2 great reviewer's opinion of the same game and with all that information you gain from that you should be able to make a valid decision neither to buy it or not. Apologies for my bad english.
it's not coping. they both do first impression videos and there's only so many games that come out. so of course sometimes they will review the same games.
They made paradroid 90? That was my favorite game in amiga, still have no idea how you were supposed to beat the game though, killing all other droids was not the answer and destroying those green lamp things only get some raiders on board that started teleporting around and were tough to kill. Never even figured out what to do with the key.
If this had procedurally generated levels and internet multiplayer it would be a must buy for me. As it is... I might pick it up when its on sale for 2$.
the thing i like about their games is all of them look the same so you get that familiar feeling but the game types are different played only revenge of the titans and titans attack but ill love this and hopefully theyll make a sequel of revenge of the titans absolutely loved that
Pretty sure Totalbiscuit was taken. He had other stuff going for him before UA-cam and people knew him as Totalbiscuit, and I think someone got a namesteal. That's what I remember him saying anyway.
TB, you said that you would do 3 videos for BLOPS 2, wheres dat third one? I really want to hear you opinion on BLOPS 2 zombies. Thanks if you read this. :)
there is certainly a nod to Paradroid in this game and boy did i have fun on paradroid back in the day... frustrating but fun.The paradroid transfer system was a little mini game where you hacked it.
It's not a joke. "Caspian Prince" the programmer/designer half of Puppygames (the other half is Chaz Willets who does the art and web stuff) is also a founder LWJGL. And I assume Puppygames001 is the company UA-cam account for Puppygames. So, John Anthony Kazos Jr. was pointing out that a Puppygames game was written using the LWJGL written by the programmer at Puppygames. The mystery is why both comments got downvoted so hard...
He's a great youtuber you should check him out if you haven't already. Northernlion is not as professional as TB, but it's really fun to watch him. Aside from first impression he also does LPs (which is a special form of blasphemy for some TB fans as far as I know, but I find it entertaining). Basically I watch TB to get useful information and I watch Northernlion to laugh and relax.
Also Northernlion is a TB fan and s inevitable that they both cover the same games because they review steam games. He should be on the TGS pod cast!!!
Hello everybody! What an ace review from the Biscuit.
If anyone is interested:
- You get transfer points for scoring points. Each transfer point costs more score than the last, so hoarding up all 10 is quite tricky.

It is not in the help screen or mentioned on this video but you can also use the mouse wheel to cycle through droids.
I enjoy these reviews. Both informative and charismatically delivered. Bloody good job.
it's an amazingly deep and fun tactical shoot-em-up... I have logged a few hundred hours on this particular PuppyGames project, and not regretted a moment of it. I've also played Paradroid, which is also quite a lot of fun -- but not as fun as this!
The fact that you are offering these direct responses makes you one of the most likable devs right now, in my opinion.
I'm absolutely in love with the graphic style that puppy games uses. And their games are pretty loveable as well.
Puppy Games is in the description, the ad leading up to the video was about dog breath and so is the little ad on the right.
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish UA-cam would stop making
me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos or so. when did they

Really liked the smoothness of the "old-styled" graphics and aesthetics in this one.
Such a classic game. I bought this back in 2008 :)
Not sure if it was said already, but the game was actually called Ultratron, as opposed to Omnitron, if anyone is looking for it.
It was recently "released" on steam, however this game has been for sale for at least a year or so through puppygames website.
Fun fact, this video is from the 11th. UA-cam likes to stack actions on a particular video no matter how far apart, what it was telling you was he added it to the playlist three hours ago.
I just subbed to this, and I got to say, his voice is really nice to listen to!! :)
11:19
Hey TB! Look! The layout at the beginning (enemies included) is totally a reference to the three bunkers in Space Invaders.
Love the droid descriptions, especially the policebot lol
The design of the droids looks like Batteries Not Included... with blaster cannons! I like it!

Northernlion is a person who also does stuff like lets look at and things like that. He is quite a good video maker to watch.

Totally read that in TBs voice. I find it quite fitting.

This isn't showing up on my subscription box, only the content patch episode. I had to find this through Facebook.

since 2008, though it's undergone many many changes since release. Not that anyone noticed it the first time round.

The latest update adds sort of game saving capability! Your team state is being saved at the checkpoints (every 5 levels?)!
Thanks you for reminding me of Paradroid! Used to play it a lot on my Atari ST a long long time ago. Good memories...
I get the sense, TB, that the game is a very quick win or lose for one side or the other, and because of that really big droid that you got, you pull off the really quick wins reliably and easily. So, consider that a double-recommendation that people avoid signing up for the newsletter.
A level editor would be awesome for this game. Or some sort of a survival mode?
I think he means in terms of the gameplay; active and arcadey.
Actually, northernlion is canadian, I like him! :))
One of my fav. youtubers, who deserves way more views!
If your using Chrome you can get the UA-cam Feed plugin. Dunno if its available for firefox as well :)

does this game have a steam workshop where people can make custom levels kinda like protal 2?
Well a simple look is often enough for you to see whether it has good video and audio quality, whether it has nicely prepared and formated content and such.
So yeah, I was referring to the technical side of things when I said "video quality" - not "whether X video is good or not".
The game feels like something that started from the haunted house(atari 2600) concept. Looks good.
Anyone knows what happened to AMA series?
he is pretty good, i like his videos
dont hate him because he doesnt have a lot of subs, his content is good, especially the binding of isaac
("DON'T SHOOT!" prompt appears over friendly's head)
TB: (shoots and kills off friendly) "I think he was friendly".
Me: sigh, FACEPALM real hard in the forehead
Hope they make something like this for the old classic Ranarama as well :)
OMG.. a Paradoid adaptation!!! I spent so many years ago in my younger days (showing my age here) playing Paradoid on my C64 :)
I wouldn't expect good, educational conversation from you tube.
That has got to be the best comeback in the universe.
I know it was from reddit but I swore TB didn't make videos for all of those questions. In fact, he never mentioned that the last one (8th episode) would be the last one.

I would love to see some multiplayer for this game. I think it would be amazing if done in a number of ways.
Just getting into Planetside 2 recently, what server is Let The Brit Drop on? and how would i go about joining?
Played Paradroid back in the 90s on the Amiga 500. Gonna buy this :-).
I do not do reviews, neither does he
Fun fact: Puppy Games uses LWJGL (Java OpenGL binding) to make their games, the same library that Minecraft uses!
he is an awesome guy :) he also does reviews of games and plays a lot of binding of isaac :D
I don't think TB won't do a video in less than one day. Also TB probably does them when they are released, when they are seen on steam's store page..

Apologies for my bad english.
is it just me or is it a referance to the game "Space Invaders" at 11:11??
IIRC you get a transfer point for every 1000 points you earn. Alternatively, there's a powerup that gives you more transfer too.
it's not coping. they both do first impression videos and there's only so many games that come out. so of course sometimes they will review the same games.
his starcraft only channel is totalbiscuit
Maybe, personally I don't enjoy any older games, my expectations are high but I for one can enjoy a game outside of nostalgia.
Does anyone else think its weird that the battle droid was being called big stompy droid even as it was one of the very few that floated?
I would buy it if it had a map editor honestly. only thing that's missing for me
They made paradroid 90? That was my favorite game in amiga, still have no idea how you were supposed to beat the game though, killing all other droids was not the answer and destroying those green lamp things only get some raiders on board that started teleporting around and were tough to kill. Never even figured out what to do with the key.
Both video's were released a day ago it doesn't mean he's copying just that they coincidentally reviewed the same game and posted the same day
any chance we'll see a WTF is...:10,000,000? Just came out on Steam today and was curious about it.
Love the space invaders level at 11:00
The best part is that his profile says he's from the U.K. as well.
If this had procedurally generated levels and internet multiplayer it would be a must buy for me. As it is... I might pick it up when its on sale for 2$.

Always insta-buy puppy dog games, love their concepts and are always very good unique experiences. Great company. :D
Pretty sure Totalbiscuit was taken. He had other stuff going for him before UA-cam and people knew him as Totalbiscuit, and I think someone got a namesteal. That's what I remember him saying anyway.
Will you do a wtf is on Primal Fears?.
BRILLIANT! *Loud clapping in the background* FUCKING BRILLIANT!
they should make it that if you were in a droid that you can still controle the droids from it (or simply make a AI for them)
For some reason, I found this game adorable and interesting.
Well, since i'm no troll, i suggest you do look him up. He's pretty awesome!
I LOVE these guys. I really want to buy this.
I got this in my feed which was the first in a while
This game looks like it would be a fantastic handheld title.
its on the humble weekly bundle right now
TB, you said that you would do 3 videos for BLOPS 2, wheres dat third one? I really want to hear you opinion on BLOPS 2 zombies. Thanks if you read this. :)
12:50
"... by any stretch" Damn it! Only half shot of vodka!
Just a guy that manages to do " Lets look at" of games before TB does a wtf is. Not to mention more entertaining. :)

anyone else notice that TBs subscriber count jumped from 300k to 900k in less than over a week?
Oh god, I loved Paradroid. This seems good, from the three minutes i've seen of it so far.
Why no advert? :(
