I agree I think Gil Gerard was a fabulous actor. I remember watching him do the Buck Rogers in the 25th century and it was the most exciting show I always looked forward to that evening. I guess now I can look at it and find it kind of cheesy but at the time it was really something I looked forward to as a teenager. I think he left us a big legacy in that two series film show. I wish he could have done more I really do because I think he would have been great in more science fiction movies. God bless him
He was my heart throb! I loved Buck Rogers!!! It was such a shame how his life ended up. His scenes with Erin Gray were exquisite! They had great chemistry together. Blessings and Peace ❤️✝️
Sadly I did meet him when he was 300lbs at a Chicago convention, he was sitting in another next to Erin Gray. I almost didn’t recognize him. He was one of my childhood heroes as kid. Buck Rogers was, and still is one of my all time favorite shows. I was impressed was him losing the weight in later years.
Gil Gerard was a sensational actor. Buck Rogers was entertaining action tv show. But he got type cast as Buck Rogers for rest of his career. He's a strong man despite his problems.
Hello again Facts Verse 👋 I used to always watch Buck Rogers when I was a kid. I never knew that he was on The Doctors, my mom used to watch that all the time. I can’t believe that he ever weighed that much but I’m glad that he was able to get his life back on track. Thank you for another great video Tim and I hope you and your subscribers have a wonderful evening.
@@FactsVerse thank you so much for your reply. I mentioned it a little while back, but could you please make a video about Shaun Cassidy? When I was a kid I had posters of him all over my bedroom walls.
Gil had some stuggles with his weight, achohol and etc. He's a survivor. His work on Buck Rogers was extraordinary. Acting may have stalled for him. But He's still going on.
I had his older brother on a paper route in the mid 70s. His name was Tom, I think. Lived at the end of the cul-de-sac Mohawk Ln. in Little Rock, AR. A really nice guy who tipped.
I knew that his career took a dive in the 80s and he was out of shape for The Last Electric Knight. I always liked him from Buck Rogers and am glad he still makes the rounds at conventions.
I remember going to see the theatrical pilot with my dad, because he watched the movie serial when he was younger. The show was okay but like Space 1999, Buck Rogers shifted gears, going from Earth bound to a star ship…. But I guess the show didn’t catch fire ratings wise, even with a location change. He did an unofficial Star Trek movie where he said he was seduced to the dark side! Glad he’s okay and doing well these days..
No!! I didn't know Gil weighed that much. But, it is understandable what caused his weight gain because, it happens to others too when they are going through rough times in their life. Thankfully, he started to get his weight condition under control.
@@harperstacey9604 Very true it does happen with many people with severe depression they turn to whatever helps them feel slightly better whether that be food, drugs, excessive alcoholic drinking. The first season was about Buck discovering attractive women in skimpy costumes. The second season tried to shift to a "family friendly" format and killed the show.
I use to watched Buck Rogers in the 25th C when it came out in 1979. I especially liked the pilot episode and wished it would've lasted longer, but it seemed they ran out of ideas to keep this series going, and the quality went down hill. I was a teenager at the time, and actually liked this show. Erin Grey was always nice to look at. Sorry to hear about the misfortunes of Gil Gerald. He seems like a pretty nice likable guy.
He wasn't on THAT version of Hawaii Five-O. lol. And, I didn't see him in the footage of The Doctors that's included in the video. Most of your video seems to be a word for word reproduction of the Wikipedia article on him which skips over aspects of his life and is inaccurate in sections. For instance, he dropped out of college and became an industrial chemist for several years. The firm he worked for was going to name him the vice-president of the company if he pursued his Master's Degree. Rather than admit he didn't have a Bachelor's Degree, he quit the company and THAT's when he went to NYC to try to be an actor.
@@carolwunder7620 that's not him. He did The Doctors two years before filming on Buck Rogers (he was 33 when he started on the soap and 36 when it ended.) From what I understand, it was G/G that killed B/Rs. Being difficult to work with, not liking the way Season 1 was being done, he was always trying to change it. Season 2 was apparently changed in large part, because he wanted it more serious, less campy. Which alienated what fans remained. I loved that show, but Season has always been considered shit. Gil Gerald made poor choices. He turned down Top Gun, Footloose and Titanic. He was too busy trying to recreate his youth with those stupid space movies. he missed out on the big bucks. He would have been great as Conan the Barbarian but he turned it down and Arnold took it. He was supposed to play Rocky but told Sylverster Stallone he thought this space thing is really going to take off so he turned that down too... Gils his own worst enemy.
🏍️ Loved BUCK ROGERS but even i realize Gil Gerard was not a good actor. Good looking, certainly. There were some notable actors on the show, though. Dorothy Stratton, just before her murder, Jack Palance, Roddy McDowall, Peter Graves, Marky Post, Gary Coleman, Buster Crabbe, William Conrad's voice and even the spokesperson from Allstate Insurance with the deep voice.
That is because Gill Gerard was the reason for the success and failue of Buck Rogers. His jealousy of Erin Grey and to an degree Thom Christopher is what killed the show. If Gil had just a little bit of grace and stopped fighting the production and writing crew, the show had the ratings to go on.
Buck Rogers was doomed from the beginning. It came out in 1979 but Its iconography was 1970s. Disco, '70s rock, spandex, and nylon. But it was the 80s. New wave/punk rock, MTV, and the death of disco. Even the Star Wars franchise died in the early 80s until it found a new audience 20 years later. Buck Rogers simply failed to find a place to fit in the iconography of the 80s. If they had known I can imagine a fit with the style of Miami Vice's MTV style of fast action cuts, and long music interludes. That was how much it would have had to change to fit. Otherwise it was old fashioned 1970s style in the "80s.
