Now the Warriors are the only team to have swept the Finals twice. Amazing that between the 33 combined championships of the Lakers and Celtics, each have only swept a Finals once.
Orlando got swept for a number of reasons. -Inexperience - Dennis Scott got taken out of the series -The 4 missed free throws up 3 in the first game leading up to them losing in OT -Houston exposed their perimeter and transition defense
"-Houston exposed their perimeter and transition defense" - yep, after having to go up against the defense of John Starks and Derrick Harper in 1994, the Magic guards were as easy as pie for the Rockets backcourt.
Kind of surprised you didn't mention game 1 of the 1995 finals. It's important to note because of how demoralizing a loss like that can be. Nick Anderson never got his confidence back after that not just for series, but for the rest of his career. I'll spin it for you quick. The magic blew an 18 point lead. But the magic were still up 3 with less than 10 seconds and Anderson was going to the line for two shots. He only needs to make one to secure a two possession lead. He misses both shots but gets his own rebound and is subsequently fouled again. Once again, he only needs one shot. His misses both again. This time, the rockets rebound. On the other end of the court, the rockets tie the game with a 3 to send it into OT where we all know what happened next. An incredibly brutal loss set the stage for a sweep much like this years WCF. That's how demoralizing a loss like that can be.
Youre welcome Pety, and thanks for the comment. I also forgot to mention that happened on the magic's home court who had the best home record that year. And if you ever get a chance to watch that game, watching nick miss those 4 free throws in front of the home crowd is so painful. The look on his face is so sad. And unfortunately for the magic, everything fell apart after that. Not just the series, but that too. I mean after this year the team would fall apart. Penny got injured and became a derrick rose type player where he just never got back to his original form. And the magic stupidly attempted to try and low ball shaq which caused him to leave for LA where he had MVP and championship seasons. But for one season at least the magic were pretty, well, magical. Ok, that was pretty terrible. But not as terrible as a +70% free throw shooter missing 4 straight free throws in the clutch of a game 1 finals series.
sweeps aren't always due to a team being overpowered or underpowered, and injuries...sometimes a team either has too much momentum going into a series or the other team is ice cold
The 75 Warriors swept basically because they were a better playoff team than regular season team, and Washington was a worse playoff team, and some of this can be attributed to the clutch play of each team's premier player. As you can see, each game was pretty close, but Rick Barry was automatic in those days, and Elvin Hayes was kind of a prick known for not being adequate for the big stage.

LeBron is just the greatest.. no other superstar who proclaimed himself as the greatest player in the world got swept in the finals..and he did it twice😂
The spurs DID NOT OVERPOWER the cavaliers. Lebron played bad. 22 ppg and shot 35%. The last two games were won within 3 points. Zyndranus ilgauskaus played great and had 10 reb. a game and one game he had 10 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS an nba record. Game 1 lebron had only 14 pts and played 44 minutes. All he needed was 10 more to win that game. I'm not saying he choked. He just underperformed and his team had great defense. The team held duncan to 18 ppg with 44% shooting as a big man. 4 players averaged in double digits on the cavs. Boobie gibson, sasha pavlocic, and drew gooden all played better than they did in the regular season, the only one who didn't play as good was james. He went from 27.3 on 48% shooting in the season to 22.0 ppg on 35% shooting. He kept taking ill advised shots and was playing much more passive than how he played against detroit the previous round. Sidenote larry hughes was injured. Had he been healthy the cavs would have had an even closer series.
I like your basketball videos I had no idea about this channel for a while. I like that you look into the past and group different eras together in a video like this one.
I wanted to put my two cents in on the Finals between the Warriors and the Bullets. I am much too young to see these teams play live, so I couldn't tell you why I think the Warriors won by that logic, but I do have a theory on why. The Bullets were no underdog in this serious-even though they got swept-but you would think thst they were. If you look at the most notable names for this series (Elvin Hayes, Rick Barry, and Wes Unseld) you will find that the Bullets had two of these players, Unseld and Hayes. The Warriors had Rick Barry, known for being a deadly shooter from every where on the court, and at the free throw line-he made the underhanded free throw shooting form popular. With this being said, you would assume that the Bullets would win because they had two out of the three players, but that just wasn't the case. Elvin Hayes was an amazing scorer, and is in the top 15 all time in scoring, Wes Unseld was an amazing rebounder, along with being an excellent outlet passer; they were Tim Duncan and David Robinson in the 1970s. Now that we have that out of the way, let's get started. I don't have any of the stats in front of me, but I can guarantee you the reason the Warriors won because of Rick Barry. The Bullets only had Hayes and Unseld, the rest of the team was okay. Rick Barry was the original Jimmy Butler, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, etc., in terms of leading a mediocre team to success. I guess you could say, "Rick Barry was the Larry Bird of the 1970s." My point is that when you have one great player who brings a bunch of decent players together, and makes them great, you can put the game into your favor. My basic answer is that the Warriors had Rick Barry, and the Bullets didn't.
lol The warriors only had 1 more allstar than the cavs and the cavs had a better bench.were the defending champs, Had 2 #1 overall draft picks, and had the second best player of all time . Lebron is the reason superteams exist and thats what he gets for it. Poetic Justice.
Gody P Did you just say the Cavs have a better bench? As a Cavs fan, our bench is one of the worst in the whole league. You're just trying to give reasons to justify that the Cavs were a superteam when we were not.
It looks like almost half of the sweeps you highlighted had 1 or more game decided by 3 points or less. so that would point to the teams not being that out/over matched. Even in 07 there were a few games decided by a possession or less. The question is, how many of them got closer in garbage time? or meaningless points? This years finals sweep seems much more definitive in that regard since the closest a final score was, was 9. But even that can be deceptive, since games 1 and 3 were either tied or the Cavs had the lead in the final minutes.
*correction- even though this happened after the video happened, the Warriors now have the most finals sweeps, sweeping the Cavs. this started many memes, as there were 9 sweeps and LeBron got swept twice
Funny. You say Lebebe should have done better with help, and Jason Kidd was weak. Yet Lebebe had help in spades, with the Heat, and lost easily to Jason Kidd. Also, Dirk had a serious illness.
The 2007 Cavs were really good defensively but they could do nothing on offense. Pop zeroed in on LeBron and he shoot horribly from the field. 22 ppg on 35% isn't gonna help when you're the only player who can really get an offensive rhythm going. The 1995 Magic were a very young team and mentally they got beat. They should've won Game 1 had it not been for Nick Anderson blowing 4 free throws. They never recovered from that and they got swept.
If you watched the ESPN 30 for 30 about the Orlando Magic, the Magic players were all very young except Horace Grant so after choking away Game 1, they imploded due to inexperience. Classic case of Youthful Talent vs Experienced Veterans
The Spurs only competition in 07 would have been Dallas had they not been upset and the Suns were a tough series in which the Spurs used hard fouls to throw off the flashy Suns. Really imo the 2007 Spurs went damn near unchallenged. Their regular season was just Pop on coast mode don't burn out anyone, so they didn't have a great record but that team played at 3 quarters speed and beat everyone that year and made it look routine.
Now the Warriors are the only team to have swept the Finals twice. Amazing that between the 33 combined championships of the Lakers and Celtics, each have only swept a Finals once.

sweeps aren't always due to a team being overpowered or underpowered, and injuries...sometimes a team either has too much momentum going into a series or the other team is ice cold
maybe in the NFL, but not here. When it's a best of 7, the better team (at the time) always wins. No matter how shocking it may be

Nope
The Pelicans vs Trailblazers is an example of that.
