- I got myself a 7 string Jackson guitar, the JS-22, and figured I would make an unboxing and review video of my experience with this guitar, with a demo song! Let me know what you think of this video style. Do you like it? Or should we stick to doing more covers?
I bought the guitar here:

I LOVE this head, I wish they use it on more models!
I'm just getting one used soon.. after I trade in an unused pedal.
Gonna be worth it!
Jackson gas always been my go to brand.
Edit: I now have one and looove itt
I see how light you hit the strings i did put on 68-14 on my 7s and the sound got from muddy to fking brutal beast
I find if I pick any harder, like with most 7 strings without an evertune, it pitch shifts sharp. I have tried heavier gauge strings but find they are not suitable for me.
Did the strings fit into the nut slots? i find that many players use heavier gauge strings but they dont fit into the nut slots, is that normal for strings not fit into slots??
If you go MUCH heavier gauge, then you can slot the nut up to a thicker size, but then you can’t really go back. You should slot your nut for the strings you use to stop it binding and causing tuning issues anyway.
Just got a brand new one on reverb for $170, looking forward to replacing the tuners with some locking hipshots and a pair of dimarzio or duncan's.
I have similar plans myself. Have done the same with other guitars and it completely changes everything!
Or you can use grover tuners.
@@Theshark15z I'm spoiled with locking tuners.
Just placed Ionizers 7 in it, now waiting on a chance to get some .175 hipshot bridge. Ppl that i recorded something for, doesn't believe how much i payed for the guitar and what they heard from it. :D Best buy really..
What pickups did you end up using?
I bought the JS22-7 with the gloss finish and soap bar pickups about a week ago. I knew I was going to need to upgrade the pickups in the least, but I was just curious if the pickups sounded muddy on other people's rigs and it seems that it does. Thank you for the demo.
I got it as a base for upgrades but I do think it plays well for the price. But like you say, changing the pickups is pretty much a given! You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Mine sounded Extremely muddy until i decided to take it to a luthier friend. He shielded it and did the proper height of pickups. He advises to re- solder everything even if its soldered in factory already. After all that, i literaly got different guitar, much better. Now i changed pups and its, again, different story.
I work on guitars and its a waste to get new anything for it just use pedals, trust me....
True. You can fix pretty much anything with pedals, or plugins. But better pickups do give you a better starting point. I work purely digital, so pickups help a lot with the raw signal.
@@diode86 which pups did you go with?
the only good review ive found
Thank you so much. Hope it was helpful!
Sound is awesome. See you soon at work. Take care. Pete
Thank you so much!
Nice playing , inspired riffs , I already ordered this guitar today , I had the 32 before and I ve sold it ,now I m back to this 7 beast
Thank you! And glad to hear it.
which are the difference between the js32-7 vs the js22-7?
@@seba8194 the 32 have white yellow plastic edges on the neck, and the radius compound is a little rounder, anyways ,don t know why but I think the 22 sounds better.....maybe because they ve changed the volume knob on the 32, it was broke after 1 year of use
New dinky owner here. I was on the fence about buying a 7 string cause I use mammoth slinkies on a 6 string. But by God it was an upgrade. Honestly I prefer 7 string Drop A now because that 7th string sounds a lot more brutal given the scale of the guitar ( I do still occasionally tune the G string down to F#). The only complaint i have right now is that the edges around the bridge are somewhat sharp.
I agree totally. And those are small things that can be fixed, but still a little disappointing. I suppose it’s how they hit the price point though.
@@crashbangpow1649 Well, for someone who's only been able to own the cheaper gear this guitar is heaven as of now lol. BTW which pickups would be better for this guitar, EMGs or Seymour Duncans ?
Depends on the sound you’re going for. The biggest difference between the two brands is EMG are active pickups, whilst SD are passive. Active pickups compress the sound making the quiet and loud notes sound kind of the same volume whilst also having a build in EQ to shape the sound, and passive pickups are a bit more natural sounding with the ability to exaggerate specific notes. EMGs will also involve making space for a 9v battery to power them. Try to find some sound comparisons and see which sounds better to your ears 🙂
@@crashbangpow1649 I feel like a caveman after reading this. I'll make sure I look into this more.
There’s a lot of nuance to guitar. I’d say if you like how it sounds keep it as is and just enjoy playing it. If you want some more clarity in the tone then most aftermarket pickups are going to offer you an improvement anyways so you can’t go far wrong. Don’t let the technical stuff ruin just enjoying playing 🤘🏻
Alriiiiight now, bring us them br00talz!!! 😃
Already working on it 🤘🏻 can’t wait to start on the upgrades too 😛
How wear-resistant is the satin black finish on this one? It clearly looks classy AF until the first glossy spots appear :|
I’ve had the guitar quite a while now, and I was concerned about the same thing. But it’s actually held up really well and still looks in great condition.
@@crashbangpow1649Cool, thank you for your fast response!
@@crashbangpow1649 Good to know, thanks!
I bought the Rhoads V version. I’m way inspired by the tones you got there.
Sounds dope 🔥🤘🏼⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thank you! 😁
I prefer playing on the Ibanez 7 string due to the string tension being a lot more comfortable to play on at B standard. However, with the extra scale length on the Jackson, I can tune to F# more confidently without a muddy sound tone.
I find the Ibanez tend to have a lower action and more comfortable for playing faster stuff too, but if you’re dropping down low, the Jackson’s scale length definitely helps!
your production sounds like a big name band.
Thank you so much!
Focusrite interfaces catch every scrape I swear Great demo actually stopped in here pre purchase and I’m gonna go ahead and let Amazon take the money on this one thanks!!!!
Edit: Gonna from a sub for ya too would like more reviews eh
Oh they are unforgiving for sure. You can’t hide any mistakes! And I’m glad my video helped you make your decision! Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to make more reviews like this 🤘🏻
What would be good pickups to put in this guitar?
All depends on what style you play, but you can’t go wrong with a quality brand like Seymour Duncan, or the pricier Bareknuckle.
Is the js22 7 better or ibanez grg 7221? Im so confused to pick between these two cuz its gonna be my first 7 string
The main difference I noticed in the specs is the scale length. The Jackson has a longer neck which is better for down tuning. But honestly you can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.
@@crashbangpow1649 Are the js frets smaller than the grg 7221?
I think they’re about the same. There aren’t many differences. If it’s your first seven string you probably won’t feel much difference between them.
@@crashbangpow1649 I like to shred and play cleans too. I guess ibanez is more versatile to play but i like the looks of jackson and the low tuning more but im quite unsure about its clean and versatility and also it has the jackson logo unlike ibanez gio series making it look cheaper
Can start playing guitar with 7 string
Or should I go with a 6 string only😢
You can start however you want. 6 string is easier to get your hands around and learning the beginner theory will make more sense on a 6 string because that’s the standard everyone teaches with, but if you’re willing to struggle it out and looking to learn predominantly metal, then go for it. Get a 7 string!
What do you use to record/ make music?
I go direct in to a Scarlett 2i2 right in to ProTools 👌🏻
such a fucking sexy ass guitar! I have to get me one of these!
Do it! It’s a bargain, and is a bunch of fun!
next week my Jackson js22-7 arrives. people upgrade bridge, head machine and pickups, I am a beginner, I would like to learn metal as slipknot or suicide silence I tuning drop A. What advice do you give me?
I would say as a beginner you don’t need to worry about upgrades too much. The guitar plays great from the box. The tuners and bridge are more a player comfort thing. The pickups are a little muddy, so new pickups are always awesome, but not essential! A good amp with a strong gain channel will be where the magic happens!
@@crashbangpow1649 many thanks
You’re welcome! Glad to see someone found my video helpful!
Bought a nice 6 string just in time to realize my favorite bands all use 7 strings and even 7 string bararones
Depending on how many string they utilise, you could drop tune your guitar to be able to play most riffs if you imitate the bottom 6 strings.
@@crashbangpow1649 I tried but they're in drop a and on my 6 string even drop c is like spaghetti lol
Try a thicker gauge string. A lot cheaper than a new guitar haha
@@crashbangpow1649 yea it's worth a shot till I save up for a seven
Pretty bitchin' guitar! nice riffing. Rock on!
Thank you! It is a pretty awesome guitar!
May I ask what drum program you’re using?
I use MT Power Drumkit 2. It’s a free plugin that sounds ok. But it will be one of my next upgrades for my music.
I want to buy this guitar, but it's moded with emg's.
Can i put coil split on emg's ?
That depends more on the model of pickups than the guitar. It depends on how the person modded it and with what model of pickups, you will have to check with the person who modded it.
Dude, thank you so much, is good to know that
The first riff is so fucking good 😭🔥
Thank you so much 😁
What's your string gauge for this guitar? Thanks
10-56
slipknot mick thomson was the one who made me buy this
my strings action came sitting very low, have to raise them
They will all arrive different because they’re shipped half way across the world. Any new guitar can use a set up from the box 🙂

Mine has a lot of ringing to it
I use a string wrap when recording. Put it above the nut because they ring out even if you mute the string. But unfortunately you do tend to get more ring out with longer scale necks.
@@crashbangpow1649 thank you I’ll try the string wrap I appreciate the tip
You bought it for 200 pounds? 200 pounds of what? 😂
Have you ever wished a guitar brand that sells only the body and neck without hardware & electronics at all in order to put all the add ons you wish (pickups, locking tuners, bridge, etc)? Well, this guitar is sort of that, the difference is that this guitar comes with acceptable electronics & hardware so you can gradually upgrading part by part. The affordable price permit that once the project is done, the price isn't that high, even if the add-ons are high spec.
I have seen many high level guitars, for example Ibanez prestige ones but without locking tuners (which I love), or equiped with dimarzio's fusion edge which I don't like at all, so even with the U$D2k price tag, I need to upgrade it to my taste wich means extra $$ + the 2k of the guitar itself. Obiously, this cheap jackson even with the best of the best equipment will never be a Prestige, but is it an excelente platform for a guitar project from scratch
I completely agree!
@@crashbangpow1649 My project with this guitar is done.
-Fishman Fluence moderns
-Gotoh Locking tuners
-GraphTech nut
-Hipshot bridge
All this for anly $650 USD, I can't be happier with it
hey, you're talking entirely TOO LOUD!! :P
Sorry, I’ll try to whisper quieter in the next one :P
Maybe the best cheaper 7 strings just should change that ugly headstock
Haha! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. At least it’s not reversed!
