Your smart for picking a 7 first. It’ll make your hands stronger and you’ll have that extra bass string to keep drop tuned while the rest is in standard. Or drop C while the other is in drop D. Lots of combinations out there lol
Same ! Everyone I listen to uses 7 string baratone so idk if seven string is better or a six string baratone. I can't afford $1000 for a seven string baratone :(
I just ordered one of these. Very excited to get it. I like how Jackson head stocks allow the strings to go straight across the bridge and directly to a tuning peg. It also means one side of the head stock wont have more tension than the other.
I just upgraded mine with hipshot tuners, hipshot bridge, graphtech nut and Dragonfire Crusader pickups. It went from Meh To fantastic in an hour of time.
Can you reply to me with model numbers of the mods you’ve just mentioned? I’ll be doing the same thing (except for the pickups - I have another set in mind). Thank you!
i love the playing! if those were on Spotify, i'd definitely listen to those lmfao nice playing man! i've been looking at Ibanez 7-strings, but now i'm looking at the Jackson brand cause they're an amazing brand, so i figured their 7-strings would be high quality, and for $200 that's a steal!
It is a freaking great sounding guitar actually. I bought one just for laughs for 200 bucks. It sounds better than my ESP LTD. The humbucking pickups are actually very god for clean and heavy. The fretwork was terrible and cut my hands up. I had to file the edges. I had to set the guitar up too and it was not easy but I got it playing perfectly. Its actually become my go to lol. The AXE FX 2 helps and can make any guitar sound decent but this guitar actually really shines and it is hot. Those humbuckers are much hotter than my Gibson's ands its even hotter than my active EMGs.
Been playing 20 years, bought this about 4 years ago as my first 7 string.Excellent guitar.of course seymour Duncan's and grover locking tuners would be great but still it's awesome for now.!!!🤘👍
I'm sold on this because I like Progressive Metal now I want a Jackson JS22 as my first 7 string to add to my artillery I own a cheap Silvertone strat and a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II RB650 bass.
Great vid of a great budget guitar! I've had one of these for years. Upgraded it with a set of Schaller locking tuners (had to order a 3x3 set with one extra), Hipshot Bridge and a set of Imperiums and it rips. Not quite as nice as my Pro H7, but much better than a lot of $7-900 guitars I've played. One thing I did notice, quality control is all over the map, so if you get the opportunity, try out several JS22-7s and pick the best one.
Bought this baby 2 years ago after having to pawn all my guitars (such a sad day) and I love it. Always loved Jackson and BC Rich. Just tried the KORN strings and their pretty good. Tone knob is still loose, bolt might be stripped, but other than that it just took some finessing with my picking and playing style. I find I have to pick downstrokes a little harder. It’s great with amp vst’s and gets along w most input boxes and Reaper. I find myself bumping up the highs and mids to get her to growl! Also had hand surgery on both hands so this git is perfect for slowed down sludge/doom a territory I haven’t explored since the 90s since I can’t shred fast or do complex fingering for solos (bye bye all that time learning Marty F solos lol). TLDR - great guitar for any player and for recording pre-pro demos or album material. Thank you for this no nonsense review subbed! PS - still kicking myself for not buying the 30 fret Ibanez back in the day (2013?) now it’s a “niche” item and expensive as hell!

I just bought this guitar bout a month ago and well I absolutely love it, it is one of my most fav guitars ive played so far... it is my very first 7 string and it took me about two weeks to get used to it i love it.. I was also just gonna add on here with mine, I played it after tuning it no add ons whatsoever i use a Nux MxR MG-100 pedal and after playing for about 6 hours straight just playing around strumming trying different effects and such I only dropped tuning because I wanted a different sound but I actually never lost tuning on mine with all the factory stuff on it.
For the price? Yes, this is definitely a good buy for someone who is barely transitioning from 6 strings to 7. The price also allows for a great mod-platform too!
Thanks Ryan, this video is two years old but is still applicable to Jackson's JS22Q-7, and your overall demo and review helped me feel confident to buy one for practice & upgrading. ..subscribed ;)

Damn dude, you sound great on that JS22-7. I just picked it up last week as my first 7-string, so I'm still getting use to it. Do you have this in B standard or in drop A?
I haven't even gotten through the whole video, and I'm already giving this a like. Great sample tracks on the guitar! I was almost set on purchasing a Harley Benton 7 String (R-457MN WH Prog Series), and then I came across this Jackson. From your video, the stock pickups sound great; and it may even improve on post. But I would for sure swap those pups out with something else. Anyway, I can ramble on too...so I'll just say thank you for the quick review.
@@Crypticmaskguitar Merry Christmas Ryan! You are now chatting with a brand new owner of their first 7 String! Instead of the JS22-7, I went with the JS32-7 in the Snow White finish (I couldn’t resist the color). So I dropped another $200 on a guitar that’s probably the same. However, Guitar Center gave me a discount cuz they wanted to make a sale...so that was a win for me. I’ll spend about a good 6-12months learning how to transition from a 6 string player to a 7 string juggernaut! After that, I’ll begin the mods. I’m thinking Cold Sweat/Nail Bomb humbuckers from Bare Knuckle Pickups, with a Hipshot 3x4 tuning machines and bridge saddle 😎 Oh yeah, look at me talking like I know what the hell I’m doing...haha. Anyway, cheers! I watched your other videos with the mods on this Jackson, and it helped me a lot. Thank you!
Nice! I might pick up the Snow White JS32-7 to mod... but I believe you might end up doing a bit of light sanding to fit the pickups in the cavities. I believe the Jackson High Outputs are physically a hair smaller and you might have to do a bit of sanding... not that big of a deal, though. I could be wrong. But Congrats! I'd recommend the Bridge as your first mod... very easy to upgrade and BY FAR the most effective upgrade! Cheers -Ryan
Im torn between this and an Ibanez Gio GRG7221 metallic blue with a maple neck. The longer scale seems nice, and one comment here said the fretwork is great. I was gonna go with Ibanez for sure since I already own 2, but this thing sounds badass. Personally I prefer the Ibanez looks-wise, plus I like all the tuners being on one side, but that’s just me. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Ibanez. Regardless of what I get, I’ll be replacing the tuners with locking ones and installing a hipshot bridge, at the very least. Probably a graphtech nut, and new pickups eventually. I really liked how clear and punchy the ionizers sounded in Tosin’s demo video.
With the Ibanez you’ll have to order a different Hipshot bridge, which may or may not work with the height of your Ibanez. The Hipshot bridge for the Jackson you would just choose .175. I actually installed Ionizers in this guitar. I have a video comparing the stock with the Ionizers. Best of luck on your decision. Cheers -Ryan
Picked up a Schecter CR-6 about a year ago, but its a hardtail 6 string, I think I might pick one of these up with GC's GuitarAThon to try out a hardtail 7 string.
I got this guitar, and I have only positive things to say. First of all I own a Solar 6-string 1000€ guitar, a 300€ Dean guitar and a 300€ Epiphone guitar. I have my Solar as my main guitar and it has, as expected, the best feeling and the best sound from all of my oldest guitars. I wanted to try a 7 string guitar but I didn't want to spend a fortune because I was not sure if I really wanted a 7-string in my collection. So I spotted this Jackson and ordered it. When it arrived I could not believe that Jackson is selling this guitar for 230€. The feeling this Jackson is giving to me is closer to my 1000€ guitar rather than the 300€ cheapest ones. I was afraid that an extra string would be an extra headache to my guitar playing but no, I am playing this guitar like I had a 7 strings in my whole life. It never bothered me to re-learn the 7 string thing. Does it sound good? Considering the price range yes id does, it has an OK sound, maybe Dean's and Epiphone's stock pickups are better, but they do the job. The overall experience and the feeling makes me believe that in the future I will invest for better pickups and other goods (locking tuners for example) so this Jackson will have for me a the perfect feeling and sound.
Thank You For Checking Out Our Video, We Have A Very Large Back Catalogue With Many Great Videos Coming Out In The Future, I Hope You Will Consider Subscribing,- Kevin
Depends on the track you want to play. I recommend you invest in some high end tube distortion. Rip And Tear would be absolutely playable on a 7 string, even though the original was played on an 8 string, he really only used the 7th string for it. BFG Division you'd have to tune down a bit since that was played on an 8 string. Mick used mostly a 7 and an 8 string for the soundtrack, only using the 9 string sparingly
Great video. I think I am very tempted to enter the realm of 7 strings. I have had a long hiatus from guitar and I am relearning the basics and want to get into the home recording, for newbies. Have you any pointers on where to start with recording? I have heard of irig and focusrite . I think the 7 string would be a major acquisition
Focusrite would be a great way to start. Should have an XLR (Mic) Input and a Hi-Z Input (To plug your guitar in direct if you wanted to). You'll learn more if you record your amp with a microphone, but it all depends on your living situation. Best of luck! Cheers -Ryan
Hey Ryan, so I’ve decided to build up my 7 string thanks for the inspiration! Last thing I need to order are the tuners. I am having a hard time finding the string post length. Would you be able to help with this ? Thx
Post length isn’t so much an issue with 7 strings. Generally that would apply to older Les Paul vs newer Les Paul are something similar... or Fender vs Gibson and such. Standard 7 string tuners will work just fine. I’d recommend Sperzel EZ mounts... you can flip the tuners around and no drilling! Cheers -Ryan
I can understand that, however, I make videos how I would like to hear them. I get bored sometimes playing clean tones. I regret typing that but that's how I've been feeling for a while. I can tell you that they are very hot pickups and break-up WAY too easily with a clean setting. The good news is that it's a $200 guitar... so not a big deal if you want to swap out pickups. Cheers -Ryan
I have that guitar, and I love it!! the one thing o Don't like is the height that comes by default so I need to ask... what is the string height that you use and recommend for this guitar?
Hi, man great reviews. I am currently looking for my 1st 7 string guitar. I have a 25.5" 6 string, I am kinda confuse right now, should I buy a 26.5" Jackson JS22-7 or a 25.5" Ibanez GRG7221/ESP LTD M-17. I am mostly playing lead, but I want a 7 string for that low chugging rythm also, something like Angel Vivaldi or Andy James kind of thing. So can you tell me, if I will do just fine on moving from 25.5" to 26.5" for lead playing? How about the transition from 25.5 to 26.5? Do note tho that I have a small hand...
Scale length is just length and not width. Your hands will be fine. It's a quite natural transition for most. 26.5 feels quite natural. I find that 25.5 feels like the strings are loose, but works well with a Floyd. Cheers -Ryan
Definitely fun to play! Modding is SUPER EASY on this as well. I have a few videos showing what I have done to it. The Hipshot Install video might help you out if you are curious. Cheers -Ryan
This is my first guitar, got it a week ago. Wish me luck

The overall experience and the feeling makes me believe that in the future I will invest for better pickups and other goods (locking tuners for example) so this Jackson will have for me a the perfect feeling and sound.
Very good demo, thanks. I was thinking of the Ltd ec 257 SB but I rather spend the 300 eur difference in pickups, bridge and locking tuners.

Hell yes I am getting a Jackson DKA JS22-7.
This is a very good video. Helpful
Been playing gtr for like 12 years, but this will be my first 7string. Can't wait 🤘 sounds great
I have a question. Can I play doom(Mick Gordon's) soundtracks with Jackson DKA JS22-7 Satin Black?
The guitar would handle it... but it would really depend on your Amp/Pedal situation. Cheers -Ryan
I used to have one i miss it
The Engl and Mesa sound really siccccccc
😲Came for the guitar, subbed for the Beastly shredding.
Dude you're an absolute tone moster!!! mine does NOT sound like that lmfaoo
Mine does. I love this cheap GEM!! Cant wait to upgrade....
You gotta get you one one of them fancy metal amps, like a JCM 800 or Triple Rec
Outstanding demo and review! You got some wicked tones from all these chains. I'm curious what strings you like for this Jackson?
Great video! Great playing!! You rock bro! Kevin James on Metal! \m/
Gonna get this with the Randall rx120 half stack
i got the same guitar too, the 7th string have some fret buzz issue on mine
I just picked up one of these last week, in gloss black for $149. Free shipping.
Great review.
How wear-resistant is the satin black finish on this one? It clearly looks classy AF until the first glossy spots appear :|
Add in a STL Tones Plugin and you’ll be jamming away!
Stunning!
Can you at least do a demonstration on clean tones? I really want one of these, but I don’t know how chords will work for it.
Your reactions are awesome 😂
should i go now to guitar center ? im just afraid to move from 6 strings to 7 😵💫
Can I get a guitar tab on that first song I'm sure you made that yourself but damn does that sound good
how much is the price of the blue guitar? and what is the reference or model? could you please tell me? thank you so much
Hi, man great reviews.
Just curious what tuning you have it set to. Great video Bro!!
This video was a few years ago, but I generally kept it in Drop A. Cheers -Ryan
nice, been wanting to buy one of these and mod the crap out of it. looks like fun to play.
Definitely fun to play! Modding is SUPER EASY on this as well. I have a few videos showing what I have done to it. The Hipshot Install video might help you out if you are curious. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Awesome, I will check out your vids! thanks man! ❤️👍🏽
