    Setting up my new, ultralight tent from ‪@NEMOEquipmentInc‬ was a lot of fun! This whole backpacking thing is a new journey for me so please hold off on making fun of my learning curve. 😅 I'm really enjoying the process. First multi-day hiking/backpacking trip is planned for the second week of October so stay tuned. I have so much more to show you all! I honestly hope you fans who watch my channel can get some inspiration and learn a lot from my own learnings.

    Definitely get the footprint, or get yourself a piece of Tyvek to use as a footprint. Protect your investment (the tent) by using a footprint (and don't wear your shoes inside the tent). Also, the Nemo Hornet 2P will fit either two regular width sleeping pads (20 inches wide), or two tapered wide (25 inches wide at the top) sleeping pads. It won't fit two wide rectangular pads, since it's more narrow at the foot end than the head end of the tent. It's a very nice tent. It's best for solo trips, tight for two people.

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment, BJ! I actually picked up a footprint after this video was filmed (you can see it in my backpacking The Fiery Gizzard Trail video). It has done a great job at protecting the floor of this tent! I agree: protect your investment. Ultralight gear is pricey! The tent can be a tight fit for 2 people, but it's perfect for a solo adventurer, which is what I mostly am these days. That being said, love having the option to squeeze another human in there if desired. Hope you enjoy other videos on the channel. Happy hiking! 😊

    Split up between two that's pretty sweet. Did not realize they were getting that light with traditional tents. Thanks for the share.

      It's crazy how ultralight tents are these days! 2 pounds total for this entire setup. But you can go even lighter than that if you're willing to spend some extra money and get in the $600-$700 range. 😅 Appreciate you checking out the video!

      Likely going to do the Fiery Gizzard trail again, but this time, all the way out to Foster Falls and back. ☺

    I’m thinking of buying this soon for doing the west highland way as my trekking pole tent is a pain to put up. Would you recommend it, now you have had it for a while? Also the orange pocket is supposed to be a light diffuser, so you can put your head-torch in it and not need to carry a lamp.

    • @JamieMcCracken
      @JamieMcCracken  3 місяці тому

      Oh my goodness! Scotland! 😍 That is going to be a dream thru-hike! I would 100 percent recommend it now that it has had several trips under its belt. Not a single problem yet. Small footprint but allows a little more space than a typical 1p tent. Extremely light. I've had it in some pretty strong winds and snow and it has held up very well. So easy to put up with just one bar that snaps together in about 15 seconds and collapses during tear down at the same speed haha so easy! And yes, the orange pocket is for multiple uses but mainly to put a headlamp in so it diffuses if you so choose to use it in your tent. 😁 ALL THE BEST on the West Highland. That'll be a blast! Appreciate you watching the video and checking out the channel!

      @@JamieMcCracken Thanks for the reply 🙂 that’s sorted it then, I will go for the hornet! And yeh I’m looking forward to the hike although it’s not quite as exciting as you might think, as I live in Scotland! haha, but I’m still looking forward to it nonetheless. I did the great glen way last year as my first proper hike and I’m hoping to get a few under my belt this year. That being said, I think my dream hike is the Appalachian trail, but at 2200 miles it’s pretty intimidating! Maybe one day 🙂 thanks again, and you earned a sub!

    I have this exact tent, and have camped in storms with 40 mph wind gust with heaving rain. It held up well and stayed dry. It's simple to set up, takes me about 5 minutes. You'll enjoy it.

      Heck yes! I've already had it on several backpacking trips (check out some of the newest videos to see it in action) and have loved it. Been durable, reliable and easy to get used to. I agree with this so much. Appreciate you watching the video!

    Would love this tent as im looking at all nemo tents wish itvwas 50 inched at the foot as well to accommodate 2 25 inch pads

      The tent is fantastic, David! Appreciate you checking out the video. With ultralight, there is always some sacrifice. Definitely cannot fit 2 25 inchers in this one, but I think a 25 and 20 inch pad could work. Either way, it's a tight fit for a 2 person tent. I have loved it so far, but it's only been me in there.

    I am looking at a Osmo hornet ONE man tent for 150.00 (new old stock). I think I could probably get my money back if I didn't like it. (My super rain 2, tent works well but, a little bigger).

    Important question: I cant find the answer anywhere... Someone please help. Can I set this tent up with a half fly, say like where one half of the tent is covered with the fly while the other half is open?

    • @JamieMcCracken
      @JamieMcCracken  11 днів тому

      @@jesbenature894 Hi, Jesbe!! Yes, you can do this simply by rolling the rainfly up. So you’ll put it on as normal and then unzip the side you want open, roll, and latch on to the little hook and velcro that is already there. Hope this helps! :)

      @@JamieMcCracken Thank you for your reply! This is great for people to know who want the best stargazing experience with some privacy also. I think I'm gonna go with a tent that is a bit lighter on the pack, that can handle a bit more wind for some summit adventures after all. But the black mesh half opening is still an absolute must for my night time star watching :)

      @@jesbenature894 You're so welcome!! :) This tent is in the ultralight category and I've had it in some pretty tough winds. I'd say it holds up with some of the best out there. NEMO really dialed this version in!

    nice review in detailed, , I noticed you went inside your tent with your shoes , that's damaging the waterproofing of you floor tent inside.

      Thank you, Beck! Tried to do something comprehensive so the average human could relate. As far as the shoe thing, I think I will be OK. I did it once so any kind of damage I might have done is minimal. Thank you for watching! 😊

    I wish I could like this tent. Seems to be all so well thought through. Might work in your environment, just not in mine. Windy and/or wet isn't for this one. Just for nice summer days here North of the Alps.
    I wish I would have seen that one earlier: ua-cam.com/video/Mbtln6ijVrs/v-deo.html
    She is 100% correct.
    Like with all gear: it has to fit to your individual needs.

    • @JamieMcCracken
      @JamieMcCracken  8 місяців тому

      To be fair, I have not had it in windy or rainy conditions yet. I have taken 2 fall backpacking trips with it so far (new video of one of those trips is up) and it was fantastic! I'm definitely a believer in what works for you may not work for someone else. The point is not the gear, it's if you're having fun and are happy with the gear you have. 😊

    • @Eunegin23
      @Eunegin23 8 місяців тому

      @@JamieMcCracken I agree 100%. It all has to work for you and you needs. I have some very cheap gear and some expensive one - depending for what I need it for.
      In our climate here (first snow today, wet, cold and windy) you just need something different than in Southern France (although certainly not mistral-proof....).
      All the best for your trips and thanks for your work here!
