Attempting to discuss this in a youtube comment section is nuts. This is a kitchen convo. There should be a get-together happening in the next room. The type where you need a kitchen breather and then it spirals into an hour long hand waving, sighing, leaning on a countertop discussion.
How i feel about acquisitions depends on so many variables. Whenever an acquisition announcement makes it's way over to my little mossy woodland hut i either become a sad lad thinking about the workers OR i make the 😬 or 👀 emoji face. This depends on the level of chaos i think it will cause people on reddit. I then spend the next few hours cycling between multiple states of conflicting emotion before ending back at 😬
Because some of them (at least from the consumer side of things) have been grand. Absolute bangers, just masterful work 10/10. But boy oh boy when you look at studio acquisitions as an entire whole and the myriad of ways this could go in the truly dark timeline...
    😬

I'm watching was sitting on my kitchen island, but it felt like Themayor was here, helping himself to my Repeater Session IPA and Double Gloucester..

Loved the video, a great discussion. I was hooked from "covered in grease, screaming at a wall"

It really depends on who needs help and who is buying: many AA studios were snapped up during the ps3/360 days, and either many were absorbed into the AAA blob, or were purchased for IP rights and shut down. There can be good partnerships, like Moon and DoubleFine signing with Xbox, but the studio being acquired has to stipulate for keeping their own IP rights, which companies like Activision will not do. As well, if a studio needs financial help to stay afloat, sometimes they have no choice to take was is offered, like Tencent swooping in with large cash payouts in exchange for company stake. It's a hard subject to deliciate over.

The fact you praised Sony on the fact they bought insomniac, but criticised Microsoft on buying Bethesda is bad.. You say its because they had a long standing relationship with insomniac, its the same with Bethesda they have worked with Microsoft alot longer

Yeah that’s a fair comment. I said it because Insomniac have made a lot of exclusive titles for PlayStation systems whereas Bethesda have traditionally been multi platform (I know Morrowind was an Xbox exclusive but after a brief temporary exclusivity deal with Oblivion every game afterwards has launched on PlayStation day and date with the Xbox versions).

@@SevenOutOfTen if you count windows game aswell they have released alot more games with microsoft, microsoft have always helped funding while playstation tries to buy timed exclusivity with bethesda so it was the right choice. i mean hell insomniac have had a bunch of pc/xbox releases, its just that sunsets more well known

@@chimpantv insomniac made one Xbox exclusive, not a "bunch". Bethesda did make pc exclusives, but Microsoft had nothing to do with them, they were just made for Windows. Buying up an entire multiplat publisher that has many big multiplat IPs and comparing it to buying a single developer that massively mainly made PlayStation exclusives is absurd, and quite frankly just shows your fanboy.
