Giant Bluefin Tuna Fishing | Episode 5: Shimano Terez BW Full Roller Series

Capt. Jack Sprengel and Capt. Max Dispoto discuss fishing for giant bluefin tuna "commercial style" from the gunwale in this episode using a Terez BW Full Roller XH model paired with a Tiagra 80W. Compared to fighting a giant bluefin with stand-up tackle using the 48-inch Terez BW Full Roller Extra-Heavy, Sprengel and Dispoto utilize the longer 83-inch Terez BW Full Roller model to keep the fish further away from the boat when fighting out of the gunnel rod holder on the bow. The crew matches the Terez BW with a Shimano Tiagra 80 Wide for added line capacity that's needed when fighting giant bluefin tuna that can quickly dump more than half the reel in seconds. Sprengel and Dispoto put 500 to 600 yards of PowerPro Hollow-Ace on the Tiagra 80W with 100 yards of 200-pound monofilament top shot and connected to 150-pound fluorocarbon leader with heavy-duty swivel. Dispoto explains why he uses a 10/0 circle hook when fishing for giant bluefin tuna and how he hooks the bait - in this case, a bluefish - to get the best hook-up ratio. It didn't take long for the crew to connect to a giant bluefin, and Sprengel and Dispoto work as a team to fight and land the trophy fish. Throughout the fight, Sprengel explains the importance of Shimano's Hi-Power and Spiral X technologies to eliminate rolling of the rod blank and how the fast recovery of the tip benefits the angler when fighting a giant fish under heavy drag.
