Thank you for having such informative and positive information about breastfeeding!! Everyone needs this information before having a baby. I wish I would have found your channel sooner.
My baby was a NICU baby. 42 days (born at 32 weeks) he was away from me. I pumped every 2-3 hours and had a great supply! Over the last two weeks, my amount has decreased by half, if not more. Baby is 3 almost 4 months old now. Does this mean my body is stopping? I haven't changed anything except i started breastfeeding and went back to work (but my job is letting me pump as much as I need to). I've changed my pump parts too. I'm getting so frustrated (trying not to) but we have had to use formula a few days bc I don't make enough for the following day when I pump at work
So I delivered and was triple feeding for a month and a half and feeding on demand and pumping whenever I gave a bottle ( regardless of if it was BM or Formula). Now I’m 12 weeks postpartum and I feel like I’m catching up to how much she eat in a day. For example I’m able to now pump 3-4 ounces every 3-4 hours which I couldn’t do before ( even for a missed feeding) There are days I just BF on demand and not pump. So my question is if my supply is set in the first couple weeks how was it possible that now I can exclusively breast feed- when I couldn’t in the beginning weeks???
i was the same - my baby had suspected GERD, she projectile vomited entire feeds several times a day and had to be mostly formula fed until 8 weeks. at this point she started refusing the breast so i switched to exclusively breastfeeding to retrain her to prefer the breast. i had to re-establish my supply and she cluster fed for a week like a newborn would do, and after that she started gaining weight. so i'm confused as to how i established a supply after 8 weeks...it has started dropping again at 4 months so maybe that's part of the issue. 🤔🍼
@@justathumb my supply was definitely more sensitive to changes than my counterparts who established early for sure. But we are 10 months now and she is still getting some breast milk. But I did have to give up some pumping session which effected my supply but that fact that I still can make a 5-6 oz bottle a day for her is a blessing.
It depends on your story and history. Most will not recover to the same amount. And to clarify, relactation is when a person was making milk for the child, weaned then tries to re-establish lactation for that same child. Different than induced lactation where there was not a pregnancy. It also depends on how much time has passed since the weaning and involution of the breast.

So we can’t build the house of milk later if missed due to lack of knowledge? I want to establish now and my baby is 2 months old, I have low supply as only 60ml from both the breasts after every 2 to 3 hours and my baby drinks 120ml now
Every situation has be handled personally. I don’t know your full history. Have women done it before? Yes. Have many/most struggled if they’ve missed the window? Yes. Then we have to factor in someone’s medical history, Breast stimulation management and baby’s behavior … there’s a lot at play.

I’ve been trying to pump but it’s been really hard to do it often because my husband is working every day and I have a 2 year old. cindy garcia At least 8-10X/d. And using a rented Medela Symphony, the only pump designed with a motor strong enough to withstand such frequent pumping and get the most milk out. The insurance grade pumps are only meant for occasional pumping, so they’ll burn out faster, get less milk etc.
My baby is 5 weeks old I haven’t really pumped that much only a handful of times and he always seems unsatisfied, we had to supplement due to baby dropping more than 10% of his birth weight the first week. Wet diapers are good but #2 diapers are not that good ( 1 poop every 2 or 3 days). Does this mean Im not able to produce how much he needs now that it has been established? Help Im concerned!
Some babies around 6 weeks will start to poop less frequently and it can be normal. Their system is more mature. When they poop less often, when they do poop, it is quite large. Many physicians will say an exclusively breastfed baby can poop as infrequently as once per 10 days, but must be a large one. Wet diapers and growth must still be on track and if so, the less frequent is considered normal.

I have a 5 week old baby, and have been having issues with both my milk supply and the baby's ability to transfer milk effectively. I am (and have been) nursing and then supplementing with either expressed breast milk or formula in a bottle. From what I now understand thanks to your video, pumping in between feeds is never going to increase the amount of breast milk I am able to produce (at least not with this baby). My question for you is: should I continue pumping between feeds, if the purpose of pumping was to try to increase my milk supply? Or, should I just breast feed and continue to supplement with formula in a bottle? I am only able to pump 20-60 mL max in a session, and I typically pump for 15 mins per breast. Also, for more background information, my baby did have a tongue tie that was recently corrected, and he is now able to transfer milk more effectively. Thank you in advance for your reply! :)

Hi Summer, thank you so much for these videos. These are reassuring and helps us when we don know what’s happening. Baby is 5 weeks born in 32 nd week. I have a feeling of low supply if I pump and not when I direct breast feed, is this my assumption or possible. I want to increase my supply, please suggest
I am 4 weeks postpartum today and am exclusively breastfeeding my baby. My baby had a hard time nursing during the first 3 weeks due to jaundice and a tongue/lip tie. At a weighed feeding he transfered 2 ounces at 10 days postpartum.. he nurses very frequently still 4 weeks in. He is having regular poos and pees. (6 dirty+wet 3 wet) hes going thorough about 9-10 diapers daily. Is it too late to increase my supply?
So what I hear is all good! At 10 days, transferring 2oz is a normal feeding amount. That's their stomach capacity. By one month it grows to 3-4oz. And that's plenty of diapers to tell us adequate milk intake. Why do you think you need to increase your supply?
What if baby is only breastfeeding for like 8 minutes at a time but nursing frequently every 30-60 mins for a few hours? I’ve been so unnecessarily stressed out that my supply is dwindling (even though there is no sign of that being the case)!
@@DoneNaturally He is 3 weeks old so I think he is going through a growth spurt! He has plenty of wet and dirty diapers, and his weight check at 2 weeks old showed he gained a hefty 7.5 ounces in just 4 days! Thank you for all of your videos and information! It has helped me so much as a first time mama!
Your videos are amazing, thank you so much. I’ll definitely be sharing! So to increase my milk supply to save up storage milk for when I have to work I would pump between feedings? Is that correct?
Hi Summer :) you are indeed one of my favorite influencer/educator whatever you call that :). Watching your videos has enlightened me about the world of breastfeeding. I have a question about this topic So lets say my baby is establishing a 1Liter of milk for the first 3 weeks, so you mean to say that the 1L ( which is refillable) will gonna be the established milk supply for him the entire bf journey? :) thanks in advance ☺️
Oh thank you!!!!! Yes that's exactly what I mean. Babies drink the most milk bw 0-6 months, then between 6-12 months the volume they drink is less and less. So in that first month, they are building up to their highest volume they'll need and the highest volume you'll make...which is about 3/4 - 1L.
@@DoneNaturally cool ☺️ thanks for the reply. And how will you explain about being an oversupply/undersupply.. so that situation is also determined in that first 3 weeks of establishing milk supply? Or can it happen also later ? ☺️thanks
@@janielynnarciso6357 Yes we can alter past that period. It's easier to reduce supply than increase it. But it all depends on how under or over one might be and how far past the initial 1 month we are.
My baby is 9weeks old, my milk supply is depleting. I never built up a large supply only 2-3 so ounces a pump/feeding, if not less. I had issues with latching and had to use a nipple shield. Now per this video, It sounds like I will never produce enough.
Ali Shaw So you have 2-3oz in storage? Or when you pump you get 2-3ounces. I am having a hard time understanding. A nipple shield doesn't hurt supply. Are you breastfeeding, and is baby getting enough diapers? Have you seen those videos of mine?
Hi!! On a good pump I get 2-3 ounces total, then it will decrease to 1 ounce total (every two hours). I do breast feed, I have a scale and she typically gets about an ounce from both boobs. I have seen your videos, Thank you. Very informative. I just am at a loss on how to increase my supply
@@ali-shaw I am in the same situation. I am going on 9 weeks and my milk supply has decreased as well. I am pushing lots of fluids and see how that works. I used to get about total of 6 oz. 4 from one side and 2 from the other. I am lucky if I pump out 4 oz now

What a lovely comment about my channel. Thank you! I would love to navigate this with you. I’d have to get deeper into your story and history. Happy to set up a tele-consult with you. Contact me if so! 💛

@@DoneNaturally my baby never seems satisfied after nursing. He is ok, for about 10 to 30 minutes than starts to eat his hands and fuss again.
What if baby is only breastfeeding for like 8 minutes at a time but nursing frequently every 30-60 mins for a few hours? I’ve been so unnecessarily stressed out that my supply is dwindling (even though there is no sign of that being the case)!
If gains are good and diapers are, then bahy must be doing what we need them to do in that 8 minutes. How old is your baby?
@@DoneNaturally He is 3 weeks old so I think he is going through a growth spurt! He has plenty of wet and dirty diapers, and his weight check at 2 weeks old showed he gained a hefty 7.5 ounces in just 4 days! Thank you for all of your videos and information! It has helped me so much as a first time mama!
@@kyciarelli3847 Sounds likes you have a thriving baby!
I have a question about this topic
So lets say my baby is establishing a 1Liter of milk for the first 3 weeks, so you mean to say that the 1L ( which is refillable) will gonna be the established milk supply for him the entire bf journey?
Man I feel so cheated in life right now- can’t go back - wish I would have just fed fed fed every hour ..sad😢
Wow you’re beautiful!!
I am lucky if I pump out 4 oz now
Why do we need to avoid pacifiers?
@@valeriecarmichael660 it’s about the need for a mothers supply to be stimulated, and a baby to suck for calories instead of burning calories. I explain here ua-cam.com/video/eS7HUKlTQnQ/v-deo.htmlsi=hzNQ_Ege3zOvCbIW
@DoneNaturally thank you for replying 🙏 ☺️ ❤️ this is invaluable, God bless from cape town south africa ✨️

It’s messed up that this isn’t common knowledge. Breastfeeding education for women is majorly lacking 😢
@@TaraS-t8t You’re so right. Women’s healthcare in general is the most deprioritized.
