TOOOOTALLY agree about the Ubi! We bought one for the same reason and it's expensive and doesn't even hold a lot of diapers 🤪 wish we'd gotten a cute garbage instead!
My wife is in her 14th week. After watching dozens of videos like this, it’s fascinating how different parents and babies are. Products one mom will swear by, another puts on the “useless” list.
I’m a pediatric physical therapist who is 38 weeks pregnant and I love watching a video from a mom that talks about the benefits of avoiding container use and how floor play is the best option developmentally!
Thank you for sharing! I‘m pregnant with my first baby and honestly the biggest money saver so far was buying things second hand. Obviously there are some things you want to get new but most baby stuff you can perfectly wash and there are so many products for babys and children on the second hand platforms that I always would recommand that first 😊
So many of these specific products were life savers for me and some we still used into toddler years. My two and a half yo still likes to hangout in her snuggle me cushion. Everyone's family and every baby is different. My advice for not buying things you won't end up using is to wait and buy some items (where possible) after baby arrives so you know what their preferences are.
Same! I watched a ton of videos like this before having my baby and tried my hardest to not buy unnecessary things but the boppy... I lasted like a week then got one 😂 its a must have for me
The swing saved my life with my daughter. Perfect for setting her in to get a quick meal ready or cleaning up something quickly. In my opinion, a lot of the products meant to make things easier for moms are completely unnecessary. I took my moms advice, less is more, and my husband and I saved so much money 🤣
I would have never showered without a swing. I have a spot where I could put the swing outside the bathroom (but still could see baby) and perfecto- happy baby to take shower. Sometimes I would have to give lots of safe books/toys too. That's really when I used it the most.
You are so right about the complicated, time consuming, expensive, smelly diaper pail bins. Just getting a regular soft close, white large kitchen style bin with a pedal for the nursery. Thank you for the great advice xx
I actually loved my nursing pillow! I’m a plus sized woman and found it was super useful. I especially found it useful when baby wanted to feed when I needed to eat. I would just prep everything up around me, get ready on sofa/bed etc, pillow on, baby on and then everything else would just slide into place.
Everything depends so much on your individual baby, your lifestyle, living situation, etc-it's hard to make these lists and come to hard conclusions. For example, I didn't need a baby diaper trash can because we live in a single story and take the trash out often, but a friend of mine loved hers because they had a two story house and with the way the house was laid out, it was nice not having to walk to the other side of the house to throw away a diaper. Some babies like bouncers, some like swings; some hate both and you're stuck baby wearing 99% of the time in the beginning (its so hard but it goes by so fast and you'll miss having a baby sleep on your chest, trust me). I needed a drying rack for the bottles and pump accessories because my regular drying rack had big gaps in it and I didn't want baby's stuff falling through/touching the drip tray. on and on and on. We didn't use a bottle warmer much at all, but we also mostly breastfed at home. The only time they were bottle fed was when I was away or at work. Most moms want to breastfeed, but it either doesn't always work out or maybe mom doesn't want to breastfeed at all (totally valid)-If you end up breastfeeding, you probably don't need as much bottle stuff, if not, you'll need bottle stuff. First time moms, just know that you may have an idea of what you like and need, but ultimately, baby will decide for you. lol. Don't stress, go with the flow, everything will be ok. :)
Agree with this, and wanted to add you dont really need much at all from the get go, with all the same day delivery options you can purchase as you go along and save a bit of money that way. If you want to buy ahead to spread out purchases you can just as easily buy yourself gift cards to the stores you like then still have the option to buy as you need. If you give birth in a hospital or birthing center they will likely send you out the door with most of what you need to get you started, outside of the crib/sleep space and carseat to get home in. Take any hand me downs or gifts and work with that first to get an idea of what you need
For your monitor issue with other people accessing the app. If you can consider getting a tablet or an ipad that you can leave at your house when someone else watches her! Hopes this works and helps! Thanks for all your info! 💗
My plan was to get the miku and use a tablet for whoever wanted or needed to view the app at home, but decided to go with one with a handheld device due to wifi not being reliable in my area. We do want to use the owlet sock though!
I actually really loved my boppy pillow, used it every day to feed my twins. Expecting another and plan to use it again. Also swear by a swing- it saved me and they LOVED them. It allowed me to to put them down and get cleaning done. Everybody is different so one item that works for one may not work for someone else and vise versa. Appreciate you encouraging moms to give their input for other new moms!
We love the BabyBjörn Bouncer! My daughter is 2 months old and as soon as she gets fuzzy we put her in the bouncer and she stops (not every time to be fair). Also a life saver if you want to take a shower! 😅 She also like sitting up. She gets fuzzy after a short period of time when laying on the play mat. As soon as she can interact with her toys that might change though.
I agreed with everything you said EXCEPT the part about the swaddles (muslin and/or jersey swaddles) - they are an absolute essential for me! My son is going on three years old and we still use them for blankets, towels, shade cloths, picnic rugs, you name it! The muslin swaddles in particular are so versatile, just make sure you buy them at least 120cm x 120cm. Otherwise, excellent advice 🥰
I just got a bunch of these as hand me downs, and I can absolutely see myself using it as just anything where I need a cloth but don’t want to use the hand crochet blankets I made or the hand made quilt my husband’s grandma is making. Or even to have something between baby and those blankets I want to keep nice for her for a long time.
I started watching your content a year ago, and loved all your advise and seeing your kiddos grow. Me and my husband are 5 weeks pregnant now, and I'm excitedly watching all your content again. Thank you Beth! ❤
A lot of these items would be on my “must have” list. I have twins so maybe it’s a little different. Love my Ubbi, it keeps the scent in WAY better than any garbage can. I also open it using the slide top, not lifting the whole lid. My boys love the wipe warmer.. with two newborns, one less upset baby real helps. Bottle drying rack- so key. The munchkin drying racks are $10, and are collapsible so easy to tuck away. So worth buying! Baby Björn bouncer, swings, and snuggle me- I agree- these are “nice to have”. I do use my snuggle me often with the boys.
I’m not even pregnant yet but starting to talk about it with my husband, I love watching videos like this! Thank you for sharing your info and experience 💛
Thank you for a genuine advise. It’s hard to find UA-camrs that make sense, it’s like their life is set to look good on camera but they don’t understand that the rest of us have normal lives and want a real person advise ❤
A baby swing is definitely useful early on. My baby loved his swing so much, that as he got bigger, he would try to climb in it lol. The boppy was also useful even outside of nursing.
Ugh thank you!! There is so much BS out there when trying to figure out what you need!! My husband and I weren't trying to have a baby and none of our friends chose to have kids.😂 We are CONSTANTLY in a state of research. We are in trimester 2 and trying to get our shopping lists and registry worked out, and this and the last video were SO helpful! Thank you!
I know this video was posted months ago, but for anyone who might read this. You can always use a tablet to give to the babysitters for the Owelet app. This works if you use a nest camera or any other sort of app style baby camera. That way they don't have it on their phone and have the access even after they leave.
The baby bjorn bouncer seats need wearing in, if it was 2nd hand and had had 1 or 2 kids use it before you it loosens the frame so it moves so much better. I got my 3 year old niece to sit in our bouncer to wear it in abit, now it moves so much more easily for my 3 month old x
I’m super thankful I got the majority of the stuff for my baby either as gifts off my registry or as hand me downs. Being my first I have no clue what’s going to work for us and what won’t. But for things we had to buy ourselves I got most of it off marketplace or at once upon a child!
Swing a must & swaddles a must. We have the owlet sock only and a separate four camera monitor system. Totally agreed with the no baby powder and oils needed. We use corn starch and natural cold pressed oils.
I mean you don't NEED much but the bare minimum necessities but most of those items are really nice to have. I enjoyed this video and it definitely got me thinking about what's not really necessary for my next baby. One thing I quickly found useless was outfits and shoes for newborns until about 3 months. They rarely go out especially in these times with so much going around. The basics like onesies, pants, gowns, and sleepers were enough to be honest.
I love the mybrestfriend BF pillow and so does my daughter, it has a velcro strap to go around your waist and really helps with hands-free night feeds. I received a wipe warmer for my shower and definitely agree, i tend to use it as a wipe case and not have it plugged in. I also don’t use my bottle warmer, we haven’t bottle fed her much but the times we did it was always thawed from cool water and she was fine!
As a first time mama to be, I’ve resisted registering for a diaper genie and bottle drying rack! It just felt so unnecessary, so it was awesome to hear you share these 2 things! THANK you!
If you are going to have a designated can for diapers make sure you get a steel trashcan or know that the diaper smell will leech into the plastic of a regular can. (you'll just have to wash more) if you have a traditional drying rack, you'll be fine. Having a place to put all the
Definitely agree with so many of those things! One thing that we have been using a lot more recently is the babybjörn bouncer. It's great because our baby has reflux and needs to be upright more often and it's been helpful when traveling and giving us somewhere to set her down at friends' places.
Same here! 🙋🏻♀️ Also we loved it for first feedings before she was able to sit in her highchair. She's now 22 months and still uses it as comfy chair in the kitchen watching me cooking. But we did get an older model second hand, they seem to be longer than the current models.
I’m 36 weeks and trying to scrape everything together to prep and I am so glad to hear some of these expensive products are not going to be very useful. I’m definitely a person that over preps but ends up using much less because that is what is easiest for me.
This is so interesting! Some I totally agree with, others not so much. The “My Brest Friend” nursing pillow was holy grail for a plus size mom with a big chest. I loved that I could hike it up high for support & strap it for security. Also love our Ubbi - I even got one for my parents because I found a regular can just didn’t hold the scent in! I was considering a Moses basket for baby #2 and now I’m glad I decided against it 😊
I love my breastfriend. I am like a G when nursing and they are not lifted lol so this pillow was a life saver for my back. And im like a size 14, so a little plus size.
Agreed !!! I breastfed my son for 2 years and I truly believe that pillow allowed me to comfortably do so in the beginning . Pregnant again after 6 yrs and just bought another one . I’m petite w size 30J breast !! Holy grail item
There's actually no medical reason to warm baby bottles other than preference! If baby will take bottle cold/slightly warmer than fridge temp.. go for it! :)
I got so much grief for not warming a lot of my sons bottles, implying that I was being cruel 🤦🏼♀️🥴 but it meant that I could feed him in the middle of the night or out without him fussing. My maternal health nurse reassured me that if he happily took a cool/room temperature bottle then make the most of it 😂
In the beginning, our son would spit up if he drank the filtered tap temperature. So we would fill a couple of bottles up at night so they would be lukewarm for him and prefill dry formula in pumping containers. In the morning, we would also fill a couple up for the day.
I used the “my breastfriend” nursing pillow with my first (it was awesome!) and couldn’t figure out how to use the boppy and get it to stay at all. For my second baby, I did use boppy though and loved it. I was very surprised. Haha As far as things I didn’t use though…baby mittens, baby socks, baby hats that came with outfits…they all just pop off and don’t stay on my babies. I’m due with baby number three this month and I’ve made sure that all my newborn sleepers have the built in mits and are footed so I don’t have to deal with any of the little items this time around. 🤪
Built in mitts is so smart! We ended up getting super long mitts for Viv that she couldn’t get off - we joked that she looked like Michael Jackson hhahahaha
You're right about the bottle warmer. My son's Dr said you don't need to warm formula. And the temp of formula you start feeding baby with is the temp they start to favor.
One thing is never gonna change: no matter how many videos that soon-to-be-parents watch on these topics - they’re still gonna want all the possible items for new baby and with that, if they can afford it, they’re gonna want the brand that is “best”. Lol This is coming from a soon to be new mom. I want to thank you for not avoiding the most obvious - those Boppy nursing pillows are not built for plus sized bodies. I literally arrived at this video trying to figure out how this pillow o received at my baby shower will best serve me and baby as a plus size woman. (I read in an article it’s a good gadget to pack in the hospital bag of planning to Breast Feed. I think I’ll pass on that. Haha). Also, congrats! You mentioned you’re working toward 10k subscribers and I see you’re now at 60k. Going to check out more of your videos because this was a nice, thorough intake on this topic.
34 weeks with #3. I never used a nursing pillow or bassinet. I did use a swing almost ALL the time though. Back when I had my first we had a rock-n-play (I think they got recalled) which was the best thing ever, I wish they made some duplicate product because I would love another one. A lot of these things are parent preferences rather than baby preferences, so you need to just see what works for you.
I love our wipes warmer! And so does our 3 week old son. I personally wouldn’t want to be naked on a table being wiped with cold wipes every time 😬 most moms told me I wouldn’t want one but I’m so glad I got one. Also a necessity for us is a baby carrier! He loves to be worn and I can get more chores done. Win win. Something that is great that I love but is NOT necessary like I thought would be is a glider/rocker. I’m only 3 weeks in but my son feeds and falls asleep everywhere and doesn’t need it. I could go on and on but last thing is kimono night gowns… our babes lived in them the first 2 weeks. His daddy and I love how easy they make changes in the middle of the night. We have at least 10 and they’re constantly in the wash so we don’t run out 😆 Love these videos and I hope this comment helps at least one person. Every baby and family is different but this is what has been great for us.
I completely agree except for one which is a swing. Of course don't go crazy and spend a lot of money on it. I have 5 kids and had a swing for 3 and they loved it and I loved having it. All the other stuff on this list you don't need just save your money and invest it somewhere else. Don't get caught up with the need of buying everything you see they grow very fast and won't be used for long
Bought a swing top trash can and use scented bags and it's great. I also only use the breastfeeding pillow for tummy time or her chilling with me on the floor. Only used baby oil for cradle cap. Also the warm bottles aren't necessary unless baby prefers it, mine loves fridge bottles I just use a purifier.
If you have to pick one would you pick the Hakka or the lady bug? Also, I’ve heard some people will put the shorter drying racks in the cup cabinet and dry the bottles in there.
I absolutely LOVE your videos! First time mom here awaiting my babies arrival in August and I find your videos are really enjoyable to watch and easy to follow. ❤️❤️
My Brest Friend is THE BEST. Great lumbar support, comfy baby support, and it has an adjustable belt. There’s also a protective plastic on the actual cushion on the inside so it’s super easy to clean. IMO it’s a must-have
I used the baby bjorn for a long time and my daughter really enjoyed it - I used it so she could see me while I cooked or had a meal. Leaving babies on the floor is great too but we have a dog and I was not comfortable leaving her on the floor if I was not super close to her, so in that sense the bouncer was really useful.
Some companies sell variety packs, go with those. Keep packaging, tags, and whatnot for things so you can try and return them. Second hand expensive purchases are also a great idea. MOST SLEEPERS/LOUNGERS ARE NOT SAFE FOR A BABY TO SLEEP IN. Last and most important, longevity rules over looks and often price. Whether you want multiple kids or not, longevity is the place to look. If it's expensive and you don't need it for long, good quality products can be resold for great prices. The Stroller Workshop is a channel that is completely unbiased and tells you what strollers are the best, and isn't sponsored by any companies. I highly recommend taking a look at some of the videos when purchasing a stroller/pram.
Agreed with all of this except the boppy... funny thing is I didn't even know it was meant for breastfeeding. I used it for tummy time and a place to put baby, loved it. I also found the regular Muslim swaddles to be the best and most secure to use to swaddle baby with. The velcro swaddles were definitely a second option for me. Hearing other moms experiences is so fun. ❤
We loved our babybjorn bouncer, swing, and nursing pillow so much! The swing was great for when I needed a shower (within eye sight) or calming baby, and our baby loved the bouncer. We loved it too, but it definitely can only be used for so long. But I agree about other things, like diaper pail and nest. I was so scared to use the "nest" because I was worried baby would suffocate. Thanks for sharing!
Using a small lidded garbage bin from IKEA was way better bc we had to empty it more often and it didn’t get smelly my husband empties it every morning and there is no smell! And we can use the grocery bags we sometimes get for garbage bags so we have only spent the initial $20 so far!!!
I use my nursing Boppy in my bed and my brest friend when sitting on a chair or a couch every single day. They save my back. Those two things are my favorite purchases.
We loved the babybjorn bouncer so much! It saved our life with twins, they loved chilling in it & definitely did move around enough for it to bounce a bit.
We use the iBaby monitor. It’s WiFi and you can have family or babysitters make their own account for the monitor. You can restrict or add any type of access. If you only want your parents to be able to hear the camera and not be able to record or move it, those are all settings they can be adjusted. My mom lives a state over and can open the app and see my daughter if she pleases, if I allow it! It’s a great option.
For your review of the ubi- you don’t have your trash bag installed correctly. You can use 1 hand to slide the compartment open and closed to throw away the diapers. The trash bag goes through that circle piece on the inside and over only the circle piece so you don’t see the bag from the outside at all.
I couldn't agree more with some of these! The nursing pillow was definitely used more for putting around babe while she was learning to sit up than actually nursing and the bouncer was rarely, if ever used. We had the same concerns about the Owlet monitor, so chose to go with the Owlet smart sock and then a separate video monitor that had both a Wi-Fi phone app and a handheld screen for guest sitters. On the flip side, exclusively pumping meant we had a lot of bottles so the separate drying rack was helpful as was the bottle warmer to get milk from the fridge to babe as quick as possible. For cloth diapering a diaper pail with a foot lever and washable inserts (like the Dekor) can be pretty helpful and while I completely agree that a whipe warmer is not necessary for standard wipes it is helpful with keeping cloth wipes moist! Love these videos Beth! 💕
I am a grand mom and I can’t believe the stuff parents buy these days. Lol. I always put my babies on s quilt on the floor. I had never heard of tummy time then. With baby two and three the the other children loved being with the baby and would lay down on the quilt too. Never had a swing, baby carrier, baby gym, nursing pillow, monitor, special towels for baby, play pen, breast pump etc. and never missed it. I did have a bassinet I used in my bedroom until the babies were sleeping through the night, a full size crib, car seat, stroller and at about 8 months a high chair. Pretty minimal compared to these days.
first time mom to be here, i was almost gonna purchase the Snuggle Me item cos it looked so comfy and highly raved 😅 thanks for posting this video to help me save money!!🙏 may I suggest though, it is better if you included the picture of the item as u talk about it... will be really helpful to us. ❤️
Totally agree! My parents swore by a baby swing so I purchased a very nice one. My baby did not like it at all sadly. We also got a very nice crib and we only used it 5 times her entire life. We opted for cosleeping and then she moved onto a floor bed. I will say the Ubbi diaper pale was very nice because after a year.. it saved our house from smelling. Now that I'm pregnant again- the ubbi thankfully saves us from the gross smell of toddler poop!
what did you put her in for cosleeping? I really want to try it because of my anxiety and we have a huge bed with extra space, but everyone seems to be against it.
I have had seven babies, and it’s true, most of the baby products are not necessary. By the time we had our 5th, I finally realized all we really NEEDED, was a car seat, about 5-6 good cloth diapers, some clothes, coconut oil, and my breasts. But, when we had our last baby, we went ahead and had a big old unnecessary baby shower, with all the goodies. There really were a lot of things that made life nicer. These are some of the little unnecessary niceties that I’m glad we had: A good wet bag. It still comes in handy, and “baby” is five years old now. A good nursing pillow. After seven kids, you better believe I needed all the support I could get. I recommend Frida Baby’s nursing pillow with multiple firm layers to add and take away as needed, and plenty of other handy pillows to help make things perfect. I also needed a VERY good pillow for myself. We are co-sleepers, and I breastfeed on demand. Pillows are important. A good baby carrier. I had a boba baby, a moby wrap, and a sling carrier, but there’s all kinds. One other thing that I wish we would’ve had, would’ve been a GREAT stroller. My neck and back were killing me, and carrying my huge babies wasn’t cute.
Best sleep sack is Petite Chose. (pricey $79) but the only one you need after you don't need to swaddle. Our son loved it so much he carried it around the house. We recently bought the 2-5 year one, and when he gets bigger, we will purchase the sleeping bag.
I agree with all these things! This is a great video for first time moms! I will say swings or bouncers are very useful when babies need to be set down and have older siblings you don't want accidentally stepping on baby while you are busy for a minute.
I agree about the floor thing. My son was mostly on the floor. I did use my Boppy a lot but not much for breastfeeding, it has other uses its good for. I didn't bother with a diaper pail at all or even a changing pad/station for that matter. I just used a diaper caddy and changed my son on the couch or my bed. My playard that I was gifted also had a changing pad on it so I just used that mostly. I had to supplement with formula for the first 3 months but then switched to formula exclusively but never bothered with a bottle warmer. I just used room temp water and i had never produced enough breastmilk to bother with freezing any.
I would agree with almost all of these! However, I exclusively pumped so the bottle warmer was (and still is!) essential for me as I'd thaw out milk from the freezer and then warm it up as needed. We also don't have a dishwasher so the drying rack was GREAT for all of my daughter's million bottles and pump parts haha. The snuggle me is great for the first month - otherwise nope haha totally agree!
Oh my I found swaddles so great. I nursed under them, throw them as a blanket into the stroller when we are out and about, also just to swaddle. I feel like I would pick swaddles over any burp cloths, or so many other items
For us the drying rack is crucial since we do expressed breast feeding with our baby... so many bottles, pumps, pieces and parts. Definitely agree about the diaper genie though. We got it and I hate it. Literally just a more complicated trash can that holds less
We used a baby rocker, like the brand Levo. This was to put her on some thing when I didn’t want to put her on the ground, that’s because we have hard floors. It doesn’t really move, or rock lol but you can rock it yourself if you want to. Basically my daughter just liked it and found it comfortable and I could leave her in there whenever I was cooking or taking a shower etc. The price tag is pretty high, it worked for about the first four months of life. I would say the price is worth it because she liked it, and I will use it again for another baby. One thing about it is that it is extremely difficult to put together. Also the pillow top that everyone likes is always sold out.
My little brother loved his Moses Basket. It was so convenient for us because he would fall asleep and then we could easily carry it from one room to another. It's too bad your little one didn't like it! (Obviously we did have a different Moses basket, ours had a little cover on the sides, not a thick one, very thin - a baby could easily breathe through it, but just enough to prevent the scratchiness.)
Also I found that spending the money on a good Matt for baby to roll around on was also better than getting a baby lounger… I splurged on the gathr mat
Thanks for the video, super helpful. Need to be careful with the wifi baby monitors. Those have been getting hacked by creeps a lot recently, it happened to me. I highly recommend the baby monitors that run on frequency and not wifi.
I actually loved the baby Bjorn with my son , it was a life safer for us :). I do agree that babies are not able to bounce by themselves so I had the same though however we were bouncing the baby in the chair with our feet and it was a good way for him to sleep or calm him down during fussy moments. Another product that I have used a lot : is the breastfeeding pillow but I bought the big one - which I have used for several puroposed : pregnancy sleeping pillow , breastfeeding pillow , a pillow for the tummy time , a baby nest … so I really loved this product ! Anyway interesting video thanks a lot
I bought the boon lawn bottle drying rack with my son and while I used it every day and it worked fine I feel like it took up so much counter space, and gets so gross so quick! i'm buying the OXO Tot Space Saving Drying Rack with my next baby and we'll see If I like that any better
I used my U pregnancy pillow for breastfeeding and that actually worked especially when baby was small. But it did need some additional pillows as it wasn't that thick.
One thing my hubs and I are doing for our baby monitor that is cell phone based is we are upgrading our phones shortly before peanut arrives. We are going to then turn one phone into the baby phone so it will have the monitor and any other apps needed for the house so that when grandparents come to babysit they dont have to download more apps to their phones.
Just remember if anyone wants to try any type of these baby products you can always rent or buy second hand. I’m a mom of 4 with one due soon. So I understand products working for one baby but not the next.
Bottle warmer - I didn’t have one with my first and always fed her room temp milk and or breast milk. But bought one this time because hoping i get a supply going and will need to warm up when taking out of freezer
I have the ubbi it's super cute but I don't like that it doesn't keep the smell away once u open the door it stinks badly, but I like the lock feature and it's easy to use with one hand not sure why u would open it fully while holding ur baby when it has a slide door to throw diapers away. But congrats on 6k that's awesome growing so fast
So I rarely use my boppy nursing pillow, and could live without it. What’s hilarious though is that it’s a MUST for my husband 😂 he uses it for holding baby, feeding baby, everything! So while it’s not on my must have list, it’s on his.
I agree with everything except the boppy. At first I used it for a sitting pillow iykyk lol. Then i used it for hands free nursing. Now that she’s sitting it helps her sit up. I still use it for nursing my 7 month old
Yup, baby swing is def controversial! Lol! I looooved having ours. We had the fisher price one & it was amazing! Will be having my second in a couple of months, so we’ll see if it’s as amazing the second time around!
Our daughter didn't like her swing until she was 6 months old and then that was the only way she would take naps. But in the early days, baby wearing was her preferred chill spot 😁
I have the BBhug me pregnancy pillow and it is everything, worth the investment, best maternity pillow hands down. I plan on using it for breastfeeding as well. I already have a boppy from my Previous child and used it a lot, so I’ll end up using both for feeding time.
Really good! Thank you. This has given me some confidence, I'm hoping I have everything I need as I'm in my last few weeks before baby makes his debut :) But I don't want to waste money on things I don't need.
I really loved this video so I wanted to comment ... I didn't bother with baby powder either although when my baby girl started eating solid foods I got her that exact baby powder to apply before her diaper cream at night and l'm sooo grateful that I found it!
Our baby came a month ago and so far we haven’t used the sterilizer or baby warmer at all.apparently we just want to use hot water. We hated the arms reach cosleeper bassinet and switched to halo bassinest after 2 weeks. Our baby doesn’t seem to love it either.
2 kiddos 1 on the way most of the items you mentioned we love and use with our children. That’s why it’s great that there are so many different products made for baby so you can decide what works. We def used a bottle pump system drying rack the first time around but don’t now lol just lay out a kitchen towe down or a drying mat. I didn’t purchase a wipe warmer the first time but would run warm water for the wipe not fun when you’re tired in the middle of the night lol. We used a yeti with hot water to warm breast milk in the middle of the night but it took a while so the bottle warmer came in clutch! Omg and we went through so many swaddles everyday with spit up, accidents and laying over people when they came over to visit so baby wasn’t laying directly on their clothing. They def don’t have to be pricey ones though! (Gotta admit I hoarded lots of them but we did get nice photos 😉) burp cloths work just fine lol Snuggle me/baby dock a tot - worked well for us so they didn’t get used to us holding them every second of the day so did the swing and mamaroo.
Hey Beth :) in France they say it's not necessary to warm up you breast milk, it's a plus but not needed, it just has to be room temperature not fresh from the freezer :)
Is there a baby product you didn't end up using and/or liking as much as you thought you would? Comment here to help another mama out! 👇
Paid alot for my medela pump machine 😬 and so far am exclusively breastfeeding lol. Might need it eventually 🤷🏼♀️
We bought a baby bottle sterilizer which was a waste of money! It worked much better to use a Milton or boil bottles
TOOOOTALLY agree about the Ubi! We bought one for the same reason and it's expensive and doesn't even hold a lot of diapers 🤪 wish we'd gotten a cute garbage instead!
This seems so helpful!
I’m not sure if I will be using my Haakaa. Tried it and it wasn’t a fan
My wife is in her 14th week. After watching dozens of videos like this, it’s fascinating how different parents and babies are. Products one mom will swear by, another puts on the “useless” list.
S'pose that's the natural consequence of blindly shopping for something you've never needed before, on behalf of someone you've never met before.
I’m a pediatric physical therapist who is 38 weeks pregnant and I love watching a video from a mom that talks about the benefits of avoiding container use and how floor play is the best option developmentally!
Yay! Floor time is so important. Will be leveraging it lots with baby #2 🥰 congrats on your babe! ❤️
Holding a baby is the best option developmentally, floor play is a detached solution.
It is great for development but what about people with pets in the home ? 👀
@@karmamoss8072 yes because mothers can hold their babies every second of the day 🙄🙄
That’s probably physically possible if you live in a first world country 😂
The Boppy was life changing for me! Wouldn’t have survived without it🙈😂 it’s crazy how different every mom and baby is!💕
Same! I watched a ton of videos like this before having my baby and tried my hardest to not buy unnecessary things but the boppy... I lasted like a week then got one 😂 its a must have for me
same here. a must have for me too❤
The swing saved my life with my daughter.
Love this💕
For your monitor issue with other people accessing the app. If you can consider getting a tablet or an ipad that you can leave at your house when someone else watches her! Hopes this works and helps! Thanks for all your info! 💗
You’re a genius!! My husband has an iPad so we’ll definitely do this next time!
She also like sitting up. She gets fuzzy after a short period of time when laying on the play mat. As soon as she can interact with her toys that might change though.
We have our wifi monitor app on our iPad a well. So when my MIL is watching him, we just give her the iPad as a monitor.
that is... a brilliant suggestion 🤯
I just hit 6 months! First time mom with baby girl on the way 💗😊 thank you for these videos they are awesome
Ah congrats! So excited for you! 💗
The oxo TOT space saving drying rack has been a game changer for us! We love it. 😊
A baby swing is definitely useful early on. My baby loved his swing so much, that as he got bigger, he would try to climb in it lol. The boppy was also useful even outside of nursing.
My son used his swing up until he started walking. Super helpful.
I could definitely see that being helpful with reflux!
Same here! 🙋🏻♀️
Also we loved it for first feedings before she was able to sit in her highchair.
I was considering a Moses basket for baby #2 and now I’m glad I decided against it 😊
I agree about the Brest friend
My son hated the Boppy. I saved it for my new baby but she probably won’t like it either.
You're right about the bottle warmer. My son's Dr said you don't need to warm formula. And the temp of formula you start feeding baby with is the temp they start to favor.
Be careful not to give baby a cold bottle as it can lead to Colic.
One thing is never gonna change: no matter how many videos that soon-to-be-parents watch on these topics - they’re still gonna want all the possible items for new baby and with that, if they can afford it, they’re gonna want the brand that is “best”. Lol
This is coming from a soon to be new mom.
We also used the uppababy stroller bassinet for day naps and night sleeping. Every single day for the first 3 months. Best purchase ever!
We have at least 10 and they’re constantly in the wash so we don’t run out 😆
Love these videos and I hope this comment helps at least one person.
The brest friend is a total back saver!
@@majornija yes. That back support is a major plus
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested 😜😍😍😜
So many great recommendations in here!! ^ thank you for sharing 💗
Pretty minimal compared to these days.
first time mom to be here, i was almost gonna purchase the Snuggle Me item cos it looked so comfy and highly raved 😅 thanks for posting this video to help me save money!!🙏
may I suggest though, it is better if you included the picture of the item as u talk about it... will be really helpful to us.
These are some of the little unnecessary niceties that I’m glad we had:
A good wet bag.
Oooh never heard of this one, I’ll have to check it out 🥰
Your channel deserves more than 6.5k! You’re content is amazing and the way you edit your videos is 👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you so much!! 🥺🤍
I agree with all these things! This is a great video for first time moms! I will say swings or bouncers are very useful when babies need to be set down and have older siblings you don't want accidentally stepping on baby while you are busy for a minute.
I really didn’t end up using any kind of swing or my mamaroo... I just let my baby have a lot of floor play time!
Same here! 🙌🏻 a great way to save $$ - and space hahaha
Totally makes sense - pumping mamas are my heroes!! Y’all deserve a medal and all the bottle warmers + drying racks in the world haha. ❤️
Love the way you described the baby monitor that is very true and great advice!
I really appreciate your take on the monitors with apps. I would not have thought of that
Such a refreshing outlook on things...thank you for the video!
Definitely agree about the Ubbi! Closing it, the lid gets stuck and sometimes we end up just setting the diaper on top! Unsanitary for sure!
The amount of times I've done this 😂
2 questions:
1. have you tried my breast friend BFing pillow? Recommend? -anyone can answer this one -
2. Where can I buy your flannel shirt? So cute!
Just remember if anyone wants to try any type of these baby products you can always rent or buy second hand. I’m a mom of 4 with one due soon. So I understand products working for one baby but not the next.
We use the boppy pillow every single day. It's so funny how we're all so different. ❤️
I was thinking the same.. why would you need to open the entire top when there’s a convenient slide door to throw diapers away quickly?
My husband worked in cyber security. He specifically picked a baby monitor that did NOT connect to wifi.
So I rarely use my boppy nursing pillow, and could live without it. What’s hilarious though is that it’s a MUST for my husband 😂 he uses it for holding baby, feeding baby, everything! So while it’s not on my must have list, it’s on his.
This is hilarious 😂
That's good it's getting some use.
I thought these were recalled because of all the infant deaths?
@@ASMRKay_ nope. That’s the boppy lounger, not the boppy nursing pillow.
@@savysnugglebear oh, thank you!😁
I agree with everything except the boppy.
35 weeks and baby Boy is due in November so this video is so helpful as we are in the last trimester and nesting stage!😅 love your videos!!🤍
Congrats mama! Enjoy every second! 🤍
Congratulations! I'm due in January and really want to avoid an over buying this time around.
@@MzVan21 congratulations to you as well! ☺️
OMG thank you so much for that! i am very minimalist and hate clutter. people keep bombarding me with stuff that i really think its not necessary! :)
Really good! Thank you. This has given me some confidence, I'm hoping I have everything I need as I'm in my last few weeks before baby makes his debut :) But I don't want to waste money on things I don't need.
I really loved this video so I wanted to comment ... I didn't bother with baby powder either although when my baby girl started eating solid foods I got her that exact baby powder to apply before her diaper cream at night and
l'm sooo grateful that I found it!
Oooh this is good to know - we're going to be starting solids soon so maybe this will come in handy!
(Gotta admit I hoarded lots of them but we did get nice photos 😉) burp cloths work just fine lol
Snuggle me/baby dock a tot - worked well for us so they didn’t get used to us holding them every second of the day so did the swing and mamaroo.
Definitely agree on nursing pillow! They were super awkward and hard to get in the right spot. 🙃
Hey Beth :) in France they say it's not necessary to warm up you breast milk, it's a plus but not needed, it just has to be room temperature not fresh from the freezer :)
Hi! Did mama's out there use a bottle sterilizer much? Currently 26 weeks pregnant :)
