It just means they were the ones selected. Countries have a cap on who can run so by no means are some of these guys the top in the world. I noticed this when the Wast Africans were lapping and finishing minutes ahead of other competitors especially in the longer distances. Like Rotich and Emanuel Korir are not what I would put as our best 800m runners. They are just the ones who qualified on this day.
@@juliajules6246 Kenya isn’t the worlds backbone lol I’m sure it’s a wonderful place but it’s really not that important on the world stage in anything other than long distance running.
Emanuel Korir is so overwhelmed at the finish that he lets out a whooping noise similar to the one from David Rudisha after David's 2012 Olympic and World Record run. 🏅👏
And then the commentator mentioned Paul Ereng who was 🇰🇪s 800m Olympic gold pioneer back in Seoul 1988 where we swept 800,1500,3000steeplechase and 5000 golds and also went ahead to put on the icing with a boxing gold medal.
That Paul Ereng run in the Seoul Olympics is the bravest ever. Running from behind and tearing to the front in an unbelievable speed was just out of this world.
Kenya wins so many times that the commentators tend to take them for granted and focus on anyone else besides them😀😀, they actually recognise them when they fail to win.
Different kind of race. Rudisha was in his prime in London, so it was to his advantage to go out hard and have everyone try (and fail) to go with him. This was much more tactical where the race only began hotting up with 200m to go.
I am on a streak of watching all 800m races, I am stunned to see that the 800m gold medal timing of Tokyo Olympics is more than what it took for the 8th men to finish 800m in London Olympics.
As a legendary athlete , I know as Kenyans we are determined to fight had. Winning is not easy, it is hard consistent practice, self discipline and respect to your instructors and fellow athletes.
@John K, It is and for various reasons: 1. It is neither a sprint nor a distance race. 2. It is for sprinters, mid distance runners and long distance runners. It is for everyone. The polish guy as well as Kerri are sprinters. Obiri is a 5000m runner (Helen). 3. You start each person in his own lane…..sometimes two runners in a lane. 4. You don’t finish in your lane. 5. It is very short …so short, that if you miscalculate or fail un terms of strategy, it is over. You can correct it in a 1500m race because it is long(er) but in the 800, the bell goes very fast when you are way behind if you don’t position yourself correctly. Working your way through with 300m to go is never easy. You also don't start from the blocks.
