I own # 00000360 howa japan armalite ar-18o. First 500 were a little funny. One on auction just yesterday bid was over 4500 bucks. Mine was unfired and I paid 3500 a year ago.
Beautiful rifle. Used to REALLY want a Japanese AR180 before I realized the Type 89 has essentially nothing from the AR18 going on anywhere in it except the bolt, which is also from the AR15 originally anyways.
I'd buy a Type 89 in a heart beat. The AR180 design does interest me which is why I got one. That said, I did specifically seek out one made by Howa in Japan b/c I really want an "assault rifle" from Japan. The Howa AR180 is basically the only one that applies which does make it quite special to me. I do also have a Howa made M1 Carbine Thailand contract. That one is special as well (also quite rare) but I do like the AR180 more.
Yeah, the AR180 and M1 are lovely rifles.@@Cubic_3 I did email Howa a couple times over the years, and each time a real human actually responded and said "There is no Type 89 "semiauto ver" and same for Type 20.
Does anyone know what the thread pitch is for this rifle? Does it have compatibility with AR type brakes and comps?
I just got my hands on one of these with the original Leupold scope, sling and several magazines. Do you have any idea how much this gun is worth?
