      This is the « enlightenment». The sence of superiority, you often see in alot of gurus is from their inate narcissism. That is they feel a need to protect their « self image».
      This man has no ego to protect, and has the ability to empatise with others. So his humor and good nature makes others come to him for wisdom. But it never came easy to him, in his book « in love with the world» he talk about his anxity and struggle as a young man on his path to become a munk. And the pressure he feelt, from beeing a descendent from a lineage of patriarcal Munks in Tibet

      @Milkshakman 3 роки тому +10

      Somehow I doubt it, there is some data showing long-term meditators have shorter (more efficient) sleep cycles. He probably needs less sleep and still has more energy than most. I think the association between calmness and sleepiness arises from the fact that most people with modern lifestyles are chronically sleep-deprived; as soon as they start to slow down, the fatigue begins to catch up.
      Sleep is basically a biological mechanism to heal from the damage you incur from wakefulness. The more you meditate, the less of this damage you incur, because there is significantly less self-related drama.

They sleep around 4-5 hours a day which are plenty enough as they are highly efficient and enough for them to recover and function properly. He must be pretty busy tho. @isaquedopao6667 11 місяців тому

      it could help, but i would personnaly record these nightmares to be able to identify their differences to real life, and then tell myself to identify these differences before bed, and if you are able to identify them inside a nightmare you can realise you are dreaming and wake yourself up, or explore your dream world.
      Although i would recommend doing a reality check like pinching your nose and trying to breathe to see if it truly is a dream. btw it's called lucid dreaming

    Another way of looking at things is telling yourself that you aren't your own thoughts. You aren't what's buzzing around in your mind. What's really *you* isn't throwing itself around like an excitable corgi in a pen, but it can be hard to find yourself in the middle of flashbacks to how the day went, to concerns or regrets - or even fun things, like bursts of inspiration. It might seem weird, but when you're trying to fall asleep, you also aren't that part of you that's coming up with bursts of insight.
    When you're in bed with the intent to sleep, the only thing that matters is that intent. The trick is this isn't something you can *focus* on - it's something you find in the empty spaces between diverging thoughts. So how to you navigate that minefield?
    You don't. The trick is learning to sit still, in the acceptance that all your thoughts are transitory. It might help to refocus on something basic, like your own breath or your partner's heartbeat if someone's close to you, or you can do what I do and maintain a soft focus, just seeing how the lack of illumination is distorting shadows in the room.
    There's also the need to be kind to yourself. It might be that your insomnia has other causes, some of which might not be under your control. If you honestly can't sleep, don't try to will it into existence; it'll never work. Instead, read a book or take the dog out for a nighttime stroll. Walk around the house or stop by an in-progress jigsaw puzzle you keep lying around. If you can avoid screens or white light, do so - no amount of meditation is going to fix the fact that our constant exposure to screens and monitors is screwing with our natural circadian rythmns. If you're a gamer, either don't play games one hour before your scheduled bedtime, or add an extra hour to your routine, so you can wind down in your bed using a *physical* book, not an e-Reader or a tablet.
    Now, if you're like me and you're a stubborn and persistent night owl, it might also be a good idea to delegate productivity to daytime hours and to progressively shift your bedtime and rising hours. The hardest part for me still involves that, and I'm still tempted to work on stuff in the wee hours just because I *seem* to have energy to spare. The fact is I don't, I just feel like I do. I note down ideas and work on a bullet journal when something keeps me awake, so that I don't necessarily toss away good ideas. Once consigned to paper, they're there until I rip the page. That means I'm free to *not* think about them.
    Finally, what really helps is re-framing sleep as a concept. We're so pushed towards productivity that we're shown examples of people suffering from chronic sleep deprivation with clearly identifiable symptoms, and they're propped up as models of proactive behavior. Read up on the human brain and what happens to it when it gets less than the average eight hours of classic nocturnal sleep, and a lot of behavioral quirks out of certain heads-of-state or company moguls make a worrying amount of sense.
    You're not weak if you need more than eight hours a day to recharge. That's just what your body's stated as its minimum requirements. In fact, giving yourself quality sleep is more productive on the long term than all the all-nighters you could ever pull in the name of career advancement or academic pursuits.

    This is very nice, not just sure if it is what I experience... in between sleep and awareness, I experience as if I'm in a movie house, and just watching what appears to be vivid thoughts... It's such a nice experience, however, I just can't sustain it for long, because I would then fall into sleep...
