I've had a power steering leak for quite some time. It didn't leak under the car, and steering is fine. It was a small leak that would see the reservoir going down after a long time of driving. I checked under the car that it was the return hose clamp wearing out. I replaced it with a stainless steal one and no more problems.
Booster leakage is a cause of many on old Honda. Very good video

***** Thanks for the helpful video! In my case (1999 Accord V6) the return line off the steering rack was rusted out and leaking (seen at 2:27 in this video). I couldn't get the line off the rack with a flare nut wrench, so I had to cut the old line and stick a socket on it, and then turn it off from above. I had to remove all the air intake tube to make space. Once I broke it free, I removed it the rest of the way with the flare nut wrench.

i got a damn leak coming from under there too , not sure if its the rack or lines but the clamps on the lower pressure line where all loose and the hoses looked kind of dried out, i tightened them and i still saw oil on the ground but much less and i can see a single drop every time i pull up and look udder the car. i really hope its just a cracked hose and not the steering column

@Bushougoma hey my 95 accord is leaking from one of those lines you mentioned in the end of the video, do you have any help on what those are called an do I have to pull the whole rack out to replace one , one of mine is rusted through an leaks like a Fountain
What causes air in the reservoir and fluid bubbling and coming out? The pump is also whining.
The two steel hard lines on the top of the rack can I buy those or do you have to make them ?
That rubber hose on mine is full of gunk and wet. Do you think is leaking there cause i just notice and it getting on my timing chain case and I cant tell if my that or the power steering hose is leaking and its getting on my CV axle and throwing it around there so I cant tell

at 5:03 the lines you mention running to the rack, mine are rusted and leaking, it's been a nightmare trying to identify the actual part name to order new ones, do you know if these are high pressure lines or can they be repaired with J.B weld?
You mean one of the two short metal lines running from the control valve on the rack to the cylinders?
Yes they are high pressure hydraulic lines and epoxy won't hold.
One of them is 53670-SV4-A00 and the other is 53671-SV4-A00 pretty pricey for what they are. They're nothing special just bent and flared steel lines.
I'd personally buy some steel brake line in the proper diameter and make them myself. All you need is a tubing cutter, double flare tool, and brake line bending pliers.
If the original flare nuts are in good shape cut them off the old tubing and reuse them if they're in bad shape get some new ones.
I was afraid of that. I finally found the part $50. I was thinking about just bending the line myself like you suggested..If I got one from another accord, would it be a pain to remove from gear box without taking whole rack out?
Removing the rack entirely is the easiest method. After you remove the u-joint, remove both tie rods, and unbolt the rack the return line will bottom out on the cross member preventing you from dropping it to get the added clearance to access the flare nuts.
Once you remove the pressure and return lines to get the clearance there's nothing stopping you from removing the rack from the vehicle and having all that extra room to work.
If you run into trouble removing the flare nuts with a line wrench before you round them off just cut the steel line and put a socket on them. If they do get rounded use a bolt out socket to grip them.
I have a 2000 Honda accord coupe and I need to fix power steering. Can I get any other power steering pumps from any other year??

Good video My issue with My 93 Accord is that the Power steering fluid is spitting out of the reservoir so Im constantly topping it off. What would cause that? Also Have similar issues that jaredgarca has.. turning is rough both ways and lots of grinding noise when I turn the wheel. I know the boots are torn as well.
Air in the system can cause the fluid to foam and puke out of the reservoir. Is the fluid in the reservoir foamy?
If it is you have air in the system if you can't purge it by starting the vehicle up and turning the wheel a few times you have a leak somewhere letting the air in.
Driving with an empty reservoir will destroy the pump.

Hi, I just replaced my power steering pump because the car started to make loud noises when I turned to the right. I inspected the pressure lines and saw no leaks, also the rack. After the change, the problem continued and it got worse now. When I drive the car steering gets harder and harder, but when I stop and turn the car off and then back on steering is easy to turn and without any noise. Also fluid level is good. Could it be the rack?? Or still the pump?
Check the upper, lower ball joints, and tie rods for looseness also check for torn boots. If the grease leaks out they can get stiff.
A bad pump wouldn't make it difficult to turn in only one direction if the suspension checks out it's an issue with the rack unfortunately.
It's a 3-4 hour job if the exhaust cooperates and comes off easily plus the time to get an alignment. I have a video on it.

Hey man I need your help I changed my 96 accord head and belts and removed the power steering pump, when I put it back on I saw in one of your videos that you're supposed to fill it up and turn left and right but I didn't do that now the power steering makes a loud noise could the power steering pump have burnt? Please help
Well for future reference you don't need to disconnect the pump for a timing belt or head swap. You just unbolt it and lay it off to the side.
If the pump was run for an extended period of time without power steering fluid in it yes it's toast. It's just like running an engine without oil.
hi, it is been long time. hope u are well and good. one quick question, if u can help me. have 2007 honda accord. power steering is hard to steer when engine cold, when it warms it is good. No leak, the o ring is changed as per TSB. will this be a pump or rack.. how to diagnose or rule out pump or rack. any advise. i need ur help please.
Try changing the fluid first just make sure you use Honda fluid. Empty the reservoir by dumping it out or using a turkey baster, fill it with new fluid, bleed the system, then repeat the process a second time.
There's no definitive way to test the pump without a hydraulic pressure gauge and special fittings.

I like to avoid firing the old parts cannon as much as possible but if it's unavoidable try the least expensive part first.
Honda Accord 197. I just noticed that my power steering fluid is way below minimum, should I bother using original one? Which one do you use?
+Георгій Коломієць I use the OE Honda fluid if you decide to go aftermarket use fluid designed for Honda power steering systems. Don't use ATF as you would with some domestics.
