  • Has anyone ever asked you to "do a line"? When Ann asked me I was really excited until I figured out she was talking about pottery design. While the method I was thinking about might improve your pottery designs, the methods that Ann shares in this video are not only BETTER, but legal. You can create better designs by learning these simple tricks! Enjoy friends!
Answers to questions we get all the time:
We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video
Here is a link to Ann's White Liner Glaze: imgur.com/a/w8...
If you would like to learn how Ann paints with underglazes - check out her Video Workshop Series. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/show...

Great tutorial on the line element, Ann! I hope your future videos will help us understand the other elements of design. For those of us who never technically studied art, these topics are very interesting and helpful as we develop our own 'style' in our work. Thanks!

IF you have time, perhaps you may would like to talk about choosing a clay type for a complete beginner who want to go into pottery as an art or even as a career. types of clay with what kind of products you can make with them and selling them to what type of customer base.
I am a new subscriber and been watching your vids and learning so much. However I am still not sure the type of clay should I choose. I am looking to make ceramics like coffee mugs tiles plates etc with more emphasis on luxury look classic Chinese blue look.
Your way of explaining is remarkable. Thank you very much.

Hi Adnan. That is so nice of you to say. What I would suggest is to start by taking a class near you. When I started I had so many questions that I needed someone there with me to unravel all the pottery questions and pottery terminology and really walk me through the process etc. As far as the kind of clay I started with, my class recommended a stoneware as they were firing to mid and high fire temperatures. Stoneware was less expensive as I messed up a lot and didnt get a lot of pieces out of the high fire. it was a bit easier to work with than finicky clays like porcelains. Now if your class fires to a lower temperature, they will recommend you get an earthenware type of clay. I say find a beginner class as they would give you access to a kiln too. Good luck!! ann

@@annruel1982 The problem is I am not in USA and I am based in Dubai, UAE, and here its cheaper to import than to make ceramics, even though fuel like cylinder gas is cheap here. I love being self employed and create art while still make a living, still however I love this work and when I move to another country perhaps I would have sufficient knowledge to jump start my work into more serious ceramic making. I adore the cobalt blue with more emphasis on luxury looking ceramics. Whenever the change happen in my life, I'd love to equip myself knowledge in areas that I am unsure about, until then I do learn online and play as a hobby.
I did researched about the clay type that fire between cone 5 and 6 and glazing. Perhaps I might look for online class or something.
However thank you very much for replying to my comment.

When you water attach the hexagon to platter, is platter just naked bisque or do/can you do an underglaze coat/background? Love your stuff, lessons easy to follow and inspirational.
