It really is absurd you can't put them in Drop Pods with is about the most "40k Space Marine" of all of the transports. You have no idea how badly I want that wrist screen for my dudes.
Customising armies is a great outlet for cretivity but these new guys lack so many options compared to standard marines it's bordering on silly. Also, It's shocking that there's no power sword in the box.
Subscribed, loved ur review. I'm a fully primaris fan boy now and I loved the smaller marines, but they just can't compete. I believe the last ' normal' marine kit has been out and we will see a move to primaris scaled marines, assault squads, terminators etc
I hope they don't phase out mini marines. While the primaries look amazing, at this phase mini marines have tons more customization and weapon options. I hope GW will eventually give the primaris marines the options that the mini marines have.
I hope that the primaris will become the main marine variant, but I still think that the mini marines shouldn't be rendered completely useless. If anything keep the mini marines until GW makes more options for primaris. Until then I'll keep my beaky marines.
I have a suspicious feeling GW might plan to make primaris the main marines, give them the same options as the current tactical marines, and eventually phase those older ones out. I'd be ok with it, assuming we don't lose any flexible options we have with the current tacticals
I just bought a pack of primaries intercessors two days ago, it's my introduction to tabletop 40k and also the first work I've ever done with models. I've been trying to figure out what the different gun attachments were and I couldn't find anywhere confirming it. Thank you for this video. Also I'm kind of sad they took out those rules from the back of the instruction booklet now, there's a very stripped down version on there now
Looking good. I went for the rule of cool and the option to pick which variant by doing some neat cutting and put both the box mag and the scope on the bolters
I messed up on a few of mine. I clipped all the bits off and put them in a storage box. Didn't realise that the legs and torsos aren't marked and found it difficult to find the correct bits. A couple are a bit off and need a little bit of green stuff. Lesson learnt
I find it absurd that these giant Marines have the same stat line that a regular space Marine should have had since day one ie: 2 wounds and 2 attacks. The mini Marines should have the primaris stat line and the primaris should have had strength 5 instead of 4 and 1" farther movement.
hewlett260 tacticals are already very balanced. Hell last game I had 2 combat squads wipe out a full mob of boyz before they even got into melee (to be fair they failed a very harsh morale test)
You're welcome and it's probably the reason why normal marines aren't allowed to sit in the big seats in the Repulsor....the driver would crash from laughter.
Pricing aside, I really like them. The few games I've played with them I found they act like a good damage sponge for distraction tactics and flanking, especially how you have them equipped. I'm not sure about the stalker bolter but that may just be my style of play. Models are very clean and the detail is lovely (they paint up very well) but I too would have liked more weapon options for the SGT and heavy (bits box to the rescue). We just give them the same rules as Terminators for transports (what was GM thinking).
I strongly suspect the Primaris *are* the new Space Marine. Perhaps they'll have some sort of event where all the old Marines are killed off, or mutated. I daresay the "Primaris Intercessor" entry will be in PLACE of the "Space Marine Tactical" one for 9th edition
My model-craft-urge cries out, "AT LAST. TRUESCALE." So, I've been buying 'em cheep from resellers, using spare Space Marine heads from since like '98, and otherwise having a ball. They're a huge new canvas for conversions and painting, and once they add Tactical Squad-level loadouts-- I'm certain they will-- they will be easy to convert over. I'd also like to see Crusade Era-style horde armies that make the most of big collections of little Astartes, without being all Chaos-y. "XXth Grand Company", or summat, loyalist twenty-man squads and scads of little captains and ten-man lascannon teams and
I'm disappointed by the relative lack of customisability although the models themselves look fantastic. I'm going to have one box in addition to the four I got from learning to play again (start collecting model and First Strike). I might end up sprinkling them amongst the regular marines- the legion my chapter is descended from was known for having a high proportion of really tall marines >.>
What would happen if you bought a box of intercessors and a box of hellblasters, build all the the bodies + legs, and then distributed weapons to avoid duplicates? Can Intercessor arms fit on hellblasters for example?
On the subject of scopes. I recently assembled a primaris intersessor squad and I noticed that some of the scopes aren't centred on top of bolt rifles - has anyone else experienced this? I'm baffled... are they meant to be like that? 🤔
I found all the guys holding bolt rifles while firing pistols to be odd, but using the bits from my DW kill teams I made my guys pretty unique looking (I think). It's a pain that they have 5 poses replicated in the squad but at least they are a change from the power squat. Honestly I really enjoyed building them and I'd definately buy another box. Thanks for your review super!
I love watching you’re videos. I play space marines and like big mechs so you’re videos are right up my ally but what I always think do you totally build everything before you paint it or do you Ever paint in sub assembly?
awesome looking models, but do the Shoulder pads from the old marines fit/look good on the Primaris Marines? I was planning of getting boxes of Primaries with the BA upgrade sprue for my army
I would like to see them update the old marines to death guard/thousand sons/deathwatch scale with all the traditional unit types, then buff the primaris so they are noticeably superior on the battlefield (yet costing more points of course) in the next codex. That way, the primaris would be a viable alternative option while the iconic space marine unit classes could be maintained
SOSWhistance Not happening. Primaris ARE the new basic Marine. This is an Age of Sigmarization, just done more stealthily. People will have too many Primaris to complain when 9th doesn't have regular Marines in the codex.
I saw your size comparison and decided to compare the 2 space marine commanders I have one primaris one standard marine both in similar poses and it's sad how small he looks now
Pretty cool. Fluff is....sigh, to me they are just true scale marines. Not a big fan of the wysiwyg rules for the bolters. ....the look of each bolter is so minor that I'd just equip each marine with a bolter that looks cool and make the squad look varied. Then just state what type of bolter the squad is using. I don't think anyone is going to really care that the a few bolters have a scope or some have a different magazine holder. lol I'm fine with the squad having all of one type and not allowed to mix.
I was quite disspaointed with this kit when I got mine, it's so restrictive in the posing, the most irritating things being the bodies and legs being unswappable and the left hands being modelled onto the bolt rifles. It's almost like GW want me to buy normal tac squads instead of more of these guys.
I know, it's such a shame. The best thing about GW minis were that they were so customiseable and poseable, and now all we get are glorified monopose kits. Somebody needs to give them a kick up the arse and tell them what's what!
Moving to a completely new scale would alienate their existing customers (where they get most of their sales), make their and Forge Worlds entire ranges obsolete and void everyone's army over night. They've tried different scales of minis before with no success (look at Inquisitor). I understand where you're coming from but there really are too many minis about to re-haul all of them to a different scale.
Kelly Davis agreed. They should have just rescaled the original marines and possibly introduced mark X armour variants. And updated the stat lines to suit of course. But they probably make more money this way 😒
The way I look at it is although you're only getting 10 models, rules wise you're getting 20 wounds so 20 marines equivalent. Well not exactly due to the weapons and number of shots, well thinking about it you can get 20 shots from 10 Primaris at range 24" and 20 shots from mini-marines at 24" range. so £35 is cheaper than £50. Sounds like I'm defending them but £35 is still a lot for 10 minis, especially as it's 2 sprues replicated.
Not on this kit, but I made one with his helmet in hand and it looked sick. I put on a yelling head and it looked like his helmet got damaged or optics damaged and he was telling in rage at the enemy.
There is not such thing as TRUE SCALE for space marines, for old ones already has it.the problem is-imperial guard models way bigger than they should have to be.......and perhaps other races too.Just it.)to solve this -to make other races miniatures smaller but in a case of vehicles- better make them bigger little bit for actual transport capacity.
I used some spare two-handed power swords from my Grey Knights kits (non-terminator ones) and just cut the grip in half to get rid of the extra hand. The size of the swords makes them look pretty decent on Primaris Marines.
Maybe they dont get a Power sword because they will soon release a double wielding power sword close combat primaris squad so black templars can have fun again.
Not A Tyranid No, they're an improvement on both the first strike AND dark imperium models. You can place the heads any way you wish. Btw I've informed the Deathwatch.
To each their own I guess. For me it's just the style choice Games Workshop made that I don't like on the Primaris Marines. They're not badly sculpted, detailed or anything. I just don't like the style.
It really is absurd you can't put them in Drop Pods with is about the most "40k Space Marine" of all of the transports. You have no idea how badly I want that wrist screen for my dudes.

Warzone: Morloc 40k battles Thanks mate, appreciate that.
Warzone Morloc 40k hope so. We need termies and assault marines BADLY
I hope they don't phase out mini marines. While the primaries look amazing, at this phase mini marines have tons more customization and weapon options. I hope GW will eventually give the primaris marines the options that the mini marines have.
I hope they phase out the squat Marines
I hope that the primaris will become the main marine variant, but I still think that the mini marines shouldn't be rendered completely useless. If anything keep the mini marines until GW makes more options for primaris. Until then I'll keep my beaky marines.
Primaris is the future so is articulations
I have a suspicious feeling GW might plan to make primaris the main marines, give them the same options as the current tactical marines, and eventually phase those older ones out.
I'd be ok with it, assuming we don't lose any flexible options we have with the current tacticals
Question, if I get the "2013" tactical squad. Will they be these "mini" marines or are they as tall as intercessors?
I just bought a pack of primaries intercessors two days ago, it's my introduction to tabletop 40k and also the first work I've ever done with models. I've been trying to figure out what the different gun attachments were and I couldn't find anywhere confirming it. Thank you for this video.

Welcome to the hobby

When you place the normal marines next to them, I couldn't help but laugh!
Thank you for the overview ^^)

My home rules say that primaris can use Rhinos, full stop.
Maxtuss11 👌

Lots of negative comments. As an old dude who remembers these things from the eighties, all I can say is that they look great now. Way better.
I'm disappointed by the relative lack of customisability although the models themselves look fantastic. yes, make a video on this.
On the subject of scopes. I recently assembled a primaris intersessor squad and I noticed that some of the scopes aren't centred on top of bolt rifles - has anyone else experienced this? I'm baffled... are they meant to be like that? 🤔

Also, GK power swords or the falchions work extremely well with the intercessor sgt

HazelVandice Yes they fit well and so do the heads. Hope that helps.

I doubt this will actually happen though

It's ok at least he can pimp his ride :)
They look awesome! I'll buy a set and just make them Deathwatch using the extra shoulder pads and weapons I already have.
very original, more marines...marines vs marines vs marines vs marines, of course, unpainting..
It's why Horus Heresy is so popular. More popular than 40K. Unpainting? I don't even...
well people play 40k to fight marines against xenos. Then they fine out it's all marine vs marine so then figure "might as well just play 30k".
Pretty cool. Fluff is....sigh, to me they are just true scale marines.

Kyle Dyer GW are never going to do posable minis again. The sculpt is based on a 3d model that already has a pose.
I know, it's such a shame. The best thing about GW minis were that they were so customiseable and poseable, and now all we get are glorified monopose kits. Somebody needs to give them a kick up the arse and tell them what's what!
Kyle Dyer Hopefully they get new staff that understand what the fans want sometime soon.
I really wish GW would state "We are moving 40K to a 36mm "Heroic" scale and be done with it rather than write new fluff to explain these models away.
Moving to a completely new scale would alienate their existing customers (where they get most of their sales), make their and Forge Worlds entire ranges obsolete and void everyone's army over night. How do you get your minis looking so clean. is there a specific tool your using? im just using a hobby knife to cut out the mould lines
You mention Dark Imperium box set????
I absolutely hate the transport! There is no reason a turreted hover tank can hold 10 primo marines when a rhino holds ten and a razor back seats less
Haven't primaris been confirmed to be Demi primarchs so wouldn't it make sense that they're this big
Yes of course, they should be bigger due to their magnicat organ. This is half of the immortis gland the Emperor used when creating the Primarchs.
do every model have to have just one weapon type or can i give some a stalker bolter and some a auto bolter?
SKYYDenni one weapon type unfortunately ☹️
Nice review fella
Nice looking kit this one. But £35 is expensive to be sure

When I get them I'm a try and make one holding his helmet
Not on this kit, but I made one with his helmet in hand and it looked sick. I put on a yelling head and it looked like his helmet got damaged or optics damaged and he was telling in rage at the enemy.
Sup3r, how are you planning on incorporating primaris marines into your chapter?
By having them in a company of their own. Not sure which one yet.
bellisima storia
There is not such thing as TRUE SCALE for space marines, for old ones already has it.the problem is-imperial guard models way bigger than they should have to be.......and perhaps other races too.Just it.)to solve this -to make other races miniatures smaller but in a case of vehicles- better make them bigger little bit for actual transport capacity.
I am starting an army. Should I just buy primaris instead of normal ones?
you can probably find normal marines for very cheap second hand.
Would a power sword for a mini marine look awkward on them?
Probably. That's why it needed to be included in the set.
Sup3rSaiy3n Yeah seems ridiculous to have to buy upgrades or another set for that.
I used some spare two-handed power swords from my Grey Knights kits (non-terminator ones) and just cut the grip in half to get rid of the extra hand. The size of the swords makes them look pretty decent on Primaris Marines.
Kyle Dyer But the principle!
Exia Valens I measured a mini marine marine power sword against my primaris lieutenant and they were about the same size. I think it'd look fine
Maybe they dont get a Power sword because they will soon release a double wielding power sword close combat primaris squad so black templars can have fun again.
Like a close combat squad that can fight zerkers and such
In canada the price o thoughs boys are 70 big ones so àaaaaaaaaahh
Alot of local game stores offer like a 15% discount so GW just upped the prices from 60 to 70. lol
Are they just like the first strike models? As in, when you place the head in, does it only go one way? Nice review :)
Not A Tyranid No, they're an improvement on both the first strike AND dark imperium models. You can place the heads any way you wish.
Btw I've informed the Deathwatch.
Pretry nice art
I like them but this is not worth £35 :/
40 pounds now
In my opinion normal Space Marines still look much better than those Primaris thingies.
Amanda Jansen i'm not ok with you, the primaris look way better but they're not worth that amount of money :F
To each their own I guess. For me it's just the style choice Games Workshop made that I don't like on the Primaris Marines. They're not badly sculpted, detailed or anything. I just don't like the style.
If the primaris were 10 bucks cheaper I'd say they are worth it. But you know how gw is
