- A helicopter approaches the landing pad and disaster strikes. The helicopter hits the second parked helicopter with its blades and both helicopters are destroyed.

@@franco7928 It definitely hit him, but it had lost most of it's kinetic energy at that point, so you could tell it hurt, but it didn't look like it punctured, or was hard enough to do internal damage...

Not really, the mass of the blades quickly dissipated and was not that much in relation to the mass of both helicopters. Most of the complete mass hardly moved in relation to the mass of the shattered spinning blades- everything busted apart more than collided.

I flew helicopters for 43 years, military and civilian, and that sight causes me pain.. What a loss..
At least that guy under the other heli was ok, just looks like a bruise chest/rib maybe. Could have been a piece of metal sticking through him. so thankfully that didnt' happen. But it is a safe thing to see such complicated machinery to maintain go into pieces... but if it is going to happen that might be one of the best ways when everyone walks away...
Having flown, be curious what a pilots view of that accident is. Clearly it seems like he made a mistake, but just how big was it. is there indicators that tell how close another object is that he had to ignore, or was it just a case of purely misjudging distances very badly.... I tell you what, i would have a hard time trusting that guy ever again, just seems like his sense of distance must be so far off for that to happen...
@@Arrogan28 I would guess misjudgment on the part of the pilot who flew into the other helicopter.. If he did not lose his license, then he will still never fly commercially again because he will not be insurable.
I’ve never flown anything for 31 years, militray or civilian, and this is literally the dumbest shit i’ve ever seen.
Always taught to approach that type of machine from the front . Plan sight to the pilots. A big circular marking with a H in the middle would have helped .
There should be a big sign that says DANGER - oh, wait a minute, there is.

That sign is for passengers not for chopper landing

I don't know.. I graduated from Army flight school at age 19.. I retired 43 years later with 13,000 flight hours, military and civilian.. I have a BS degree in mathematics and hold an ATP in helicopters, typed in the BH205..

Theres a local story around my area of an old crop duster who crashed his craft trying to avoid some powerlines. The legend says he climbed out and walked away from the crash towards a group of onlookers that had gathered. Horrified they asked if he was ok, he replied 'yes, Im fine' and then immediately dropped dead.

I saw the exact same thing happen at Booker Airfield in the UK - bits of blade were flying past me over my head. I hid behind the a golf cart we used to tow gliders around the airfield. Scary stuff to happen only about 60 ft away. After the blades started hitting each other, a pitch linkage failed and one helicopter jumped up into the air and flipped on it's back all in less than a couple of seconds. One of the occupants was on a trial lesson they were given as a birthday gift.
Dude, that last sentence just upped the tragedy factor tenfold. Even if there were no injuries, I hate hearing about someone having a bad first experience with aviation…and that’s almost as bad as it gets…

The very high inertia of the propellers, caused them to separate quickly from the body of the helicopter, without causing loss of human life. To be honest, I felt the pain for the two helicopters that crashed.

Rotors. Helicopters don't have a propeller.
That was sheer good fortune. Man on the pad could have felt the pain from those broken rotors.

This happened years ago in Pasadena, California. No ice. Did not slide. He just landed to close. It's on record. Not new.
He landed on his mark and didn‘t realize that the other wasn‘t parked correctly on it‘s place.

I learned my lesson early from working around helicopters - the person standing next to the stationary helicopter should ALWAYS have their foot on the skids and not the ground. You want to be one with the helicopter in case it rolls or accidentally lifts off.

@@serpentrouge3 yes, better to be inside if the ship rolls, instead of on top of you - you CANNOT escape the moving rotors in that time. Also, many feet have been crushed by a sudden slight lift and drop of the skids.

You are absolutely correct. You would have thought that these judgements would have been second nature from whatever training they did. Obviously this pilot made an embarrassing, expensive and hopefully not a life threatening error.

Several things I've noticed here that don't seem quite normal.First of all the bird on the right is directly on the markings for takeoff but he is significantly bigger than the helicopter coming in to land, and on that note I've never seen a helicopter come in 5 feet off the ground to do an approach Landing I'm not an FAA certified flight instructor but I do know they have minimums set in place when you're coming in and there's another hotbird on the pad waiting to take off .My guess is that the bird on the right had much longer rotors than the one on the left they were both in the right place but the rotors and their lengths were not accounted for in the spacing takeoff and Landing.. I hope everybody on board was okay and I hope that these were not commercial medical helicopters transporting patients
They both appear to be nearly identical Bell 206 Jet Rangers.
Totally the fault of the pilot coming in to land,
however that pad seems to small for two helicopters running up at the same time.
The helicopter on the right is bigger because it's closer. That's how eyes work. You can clearly see they are the same type of helicopter.
That guy: Earths luckiest man of the day.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the helicopter on the ground is off the floor sign, contributing to the collision. I believe that the pilot who was landing just confirmed and trusted that he is right, without calculating the distance.
But it's just a hypothesis.

Очень плохой стрелок, чему его учили. На телефоне видно, что винты пересекутся, а он из кабины не увидел. Легко отделался, могли оба сгореть.

Надо было сначало:
- развернуть борт
- сравнять скорость винтов
- и подобрать фазу вращения так чтобы винт одной машины был между винтами другой
- и лишь после снижаться.
А можно было просто зависнуть над стоящим вертолетом, дать педаль, и сравнять скорость вращения своего вертолета со скоростью вращения НВ стоящего. И аккуратно сесть сверху.
Тамошний лётчик учился пилотированию точно у вас, тоже любил пошутить по-черному)))))

Мы пробовали несколько раз, итог тот же. Надо чтобы винты вращались в разные стороны, тогда можно так садить. А так нет разницы каким боком садишься, направление винтов не изменится, схлест неизбежен...

Там две площадки. Тот, что уже стоял - да, неровно, но он хотя бы стоял! Понять действия второго пилота невозможно - зачем он так близко сажал.

Справо две точки для заправки чтобы шланга хватило до вертолёта он перемещался как можно ближе - не рассчитал площадка для двух машин

Тогда первый пилот нормально приземлился, ничего и никого не касаясь. Чуть левее, если смотреть с места пилота, и, повторюсь, можно винтом по будке, похоже трансформаторной, попасть.
@@_AHTOXA_ не, это не будка, это заправочная станция, но она сделана низко винт её не цепляет, но если бы надпись защищала будку, то её не было бы в районе посадке второго вертолёта, а она есть, она так же есть с дрогой стороны, и ещё, надписи обращены буквами не к пилотам, а во внешнюю сторону, что сделано для людей - что б не подходили к площадке.
Назначение будки не меняет сути происходящего. Суть в том, что второй вертолёт во что бы то ни стало решил винтом протаранить первый вертолёт. И не имеет значение, где стоит первый. Где бы он не стоял, второй его всё-равно настиг бы. 😁
Он о чём-то своём думал в это время, не обращая внимание на происходящее вокруг.
Не понимаю чего на мужика все напали, он просто хотел поплотнее припарковаться!

@@DietmarSchlager thats usually not a factor, they can land anywhere within that yellow box. typically when a rolling pad is not available, you hover approach the "H" Box and then slide into a more close in spot to shutdown, unload, load up etc etc etc.
