- In today's video review we take a closer look at A. Lange & Söhnes most iconic watch and most likely one of Germany's most iconic watches of all time, the Lange 1. With its iconic asymmetrical yet pleasing to look at dial, the beautifully designed and executed 18k gold case, and the quintessential Glashütte style finish-work on the movement, it’s safe to say that the Lange 1 is a modern icon.

Now THIS is a watch worthy of the “grail” term. Absolutely stunning in every way.
This is my grail watch. The face design is stunning, the movement is a testament to fine craftsmanship and the watch announces to the world the mission of A. Lange & Söhnes brand. I doubt if I'll ever be in a position to own one but being unattainable is the hallmark of a grail watch.

The seconds go to zero so that when you restart the watch with the minute the seconds and the minutes are timed together, it is brilliant
Could you elaborate? Not sure how that's an advantage at all
@@zbenne05 When setting the time, your second hand should always be at zero, otherwise the minute hand is going to be out of sync.
@@patrickdaly5988 but as soon as you wind it up, the watch will perhaps randomly start and make you lose the accuracy needed.

One of my two grail dress watches! The other is the F. P. Journe Chronometre Souverain in rose gold with the solid gold dial. That's more whimsical and individualistic in character, as opposed to the more understated restrained style here.

You need to get yourself a grand Lange, looks beautiful on a large wrist
Lange makes incredible watches, probably better than all the big names. This watch may be the best in its category, the price considered. On the other hand, there are more affordable ones which are just as good in its own right, in particular, the GS SBGW series. This is a high end Three Centre Hand manual wind with long minute hand and an even longer second hand. Yipsir, a watch connoisseur from HK called this the best of watches ( he didn't say it's the best. note the difference. i have never heard him called anything the best or perfect). He says watch collectors called this type of second hand, the 'Third Hand.' It takes an excellent mechanism to carry this Third Hand in high frequency for 72 hours an at same time keep 'chronometer time'. He says this mechanism is very rare, even in Lange or Patek. Recommended by him, I bought the latest SBGW231 for 3K after 25% regular discount. It gives me plus 2 sec day for 75 hours. As for the finishing, you got to see it for yourself.
When watches are rare, we called them a luxury. When they can dance even in dim light, making your heart skip a little, that pleasure is a luxury. They need not be complicated and need not be expensive. Complications are nice, but, there is no end to it. That's why there is no so thing as a grail watch. Still, complication for complication sake, the Wadokei by the genius Masahiro Kikuno would be my pick.

Definitely my grail brand absolutely love their time pieces, I'm very close to adding a few to my collection, just need to make up my mind on which models....

In terms of the looks and atheistic they are already perfected and no need to improve or change it. The only thing ALS needs to do is to improve the power reserve time and the quality of the materials used. If they can build the same watch with 15 days power reserve time it will kill all other competitors on the market dead.
7:20 I´ve asked that question on the christmas Q&A on the instagram page of lange and they responded with a rather technical anwser.

I like this brand, but their watches have really thick case. Would be nice if they can make the case thinner.
Best high-end dress watch? Absolutely not. I can name at least 30 other A. Lange & Söhne models that are better.

What are you referring to?
A second hand that zeros itself is not hacking seconds. Hacking seconds is when you pull the crown out to set the time, the watch "hacks" meaning stopping the balance. A second hand that puts itself to zero is an entirely different thing
@@mattwasilewicz9677 Yeah exactly. Didn't catch what he meant there as this is a completely different feature.
The idea of it seems obvious: it's easier to synchronize it next time using it when second hand is at zero.
Problem is, you don't know for sure how many winds it will take for the second hand to start running again, so it really isn't very practical for synchronization.
I would rather buy a Seiko.
Lange quality is equal to GS
@A. B. some independent experts say the quality of GS is better than Patek. So i believe GS is comparable to Lange

GS? Sorry please see it in real life. The GS is like Casio compared to this. Saying this is quite insulting to Lange. They are completely different in terms of class. It’s like comparing a modified Honda to a Ferrari.
